  • Having trouble with multiple Jquery libraries

    - by user3716971
    I've seen the posts about the no conflict but I'm not very code savvy and can't figure it out alone. I'm having trouble making two libraries work together. At the top I have the 1.9.1 library which controls a news ticker, and a carousel. Near the bottom there is a library 1.6.1, which controls a Dribbble feed. If I remove 1.6.1 everything but the dribbble feed works, and if I remove the 1.9.1 the dribbble feed is the only thing that works. I uploaded the website for you guys to check out. If you could edit my code to make it work that would be amazing, I don't have much knowledge of jquery. This version has a working dribbble feed at the very bottom http://michaelcullenbenson.com/MichaelCullenBenson.com/index.html and this version has a broken feed and everything else works. http://michaelcullenbenson.com/MichaelCullenBenson.com/index2.html Help would be AMAZING as the dribbble feed is the last element I'm trying to finish on my homepage and I'll be able to move on. <script type="text/javascript" src="js/jquery-1.9.1.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="js/jquery.innerfade.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready( function(){ $('#news').innerfade({ animationtype: 'slide', speed: 600, timeout: 6000, type: 'random', containerheight: '1em' }); }); </script> <!-- Include all compiled plugins (below), or include individual files as needed --> <script src="utilcarousel-files/utilcarousel/jquery.utilcarousel.min.js"></script> <script src="utilcarousel-files/magnific-popup/jquery.magnific-popup.js"></script> <script src="js/responsive-nav.js"></script> <script> $(function() { $('#fullwidth').utilCarousel({ breakPoints : [[600, 1], [800, 2], [1000, 3], [1300, 4],], mouseWheel : false, rewind : true, autoPlay : true, pagination : false }); $('#fullwidth2').utilCarousel({ breakPoints : [[600, 1], [800, 2], [1000, 3], [1300, 4],], mouseWheel : false, rewind : true, autoPlay : true, pagination : false }); }); </script> <script> $(document).ready(function() { var movementStrength = 25; var height = movementStrength / $(window).height(); var width = movementStrength / $(window).width(); $("#aboutarea").mousemove(function(e){ var pageX = e.pageX - ($(window).width() / 2); var pageY = e.pageY - ($(window).height() / 2); var newvalueX = width * pageX * -1 - 25; var newvalueY = height * pageY * -1 - 50; $('#aboutarea').css("background-position", newvalueX+"px "+newvalueY+"px"); }); }); </script> <script src="//ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.6.1/jquery.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="dribbble.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(function () { $('#user').dribbble({ player: 'MCBDesign', total: 1 }); }); </script>

  • How to have other divs with a flash liquid layout that fits to the page?

    - by brybam
    Basically the majority of my content is flash based. I designed it using Flash Builder (Flex) and Its in a liquid layout, (everything is in percents) and if im JUST embedding the flash content it scales to the page fine, and i have the flash content set to have a padding of 50 px. I put a header div in fine with no problems, but I have 2 problems, the first being the footer div seems to cover up the buttom of the flash content in IE, but it looks just fine in chrome. How can I solve this? I'm using the stock embed code that Flex provides, I tried to edit the css style for the div which I think is #flashContent and give it a min width and min height but it didnt seem to work, actually anything I did to #flashContent didn't seem to do anything, maybe its not the div i need to be adding that attribute to... And my other problem is I dont even know where to start when it comes to placing a div thats 280width by 600height colum to the right side of the flash content. If i could specify a size for the flash content, and the float it left, and float the colum right, and clear it with the container div id be just fine....But remember the flash content is set to 100% Scale (well techically 100%x80% because it looked better that way). Does anyone know how I can start to deal with creating a more complex scaleable flash layouts that includes other divs? ALL WELL MAINTAINING IE SUPPORT? IE is ruining my life. Here's the code I'm using: (or if it will help you visualize what im trying to do here's the page where im working on setting this up http://apumpkinpatch.com/textmashnew/) <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" lang="en" xml:lang="en"> <head> <title>TextMixup</title> <meta name="google" value="notranslate"> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <link href="css.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> <script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.5.2/jquery.min.js"></script> <script src="../appassets/scripts/jquery.titlealert.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-19768131-2']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); (function() { var ga = document.createElement('script'); ga.type = 'text/javascript'; ga.async = true; ga.src = ('https:' == document.location.protocol ? • Detecting HTML5/CSS3 Features using Modernizr

    - by dwahlin
    HTML5, CSS3, and related technologies such as canvas and web sockets bring a lot of useful new features to the table that can take Web applications to the next level. These new technologies allow applications to be built using only HTML, CSS, and JavaScript allowing them to be viewed on a variety of form factors including tablets and phones. Although HTML5 features offer a lot of promise, it’s not realistic to develop applications using the latest technologies without worrying about supporting older browsers in the process. If history has taught us anything it’s that old browsers stick around for years and years which means developers have to deal with backward compatibility issues. This is especially true when deploying applications to the Internet that target the general public. This begs the question, “How do you move forward with HTML5 and CSS3 technologies while gracefully handling unsupported features in older browsers?” Although you can write code by hand to detect different HTML5 and CSS3 features, it’s not always straightforward. For example, to check for canvas support you need to write code similar to the following:   <script> window.onload = function () { if (canvasSupported()) { alert('canvas supported'); } }; function canvasSupported() { var canvas = document.createElement('canvas'); return (canvas.getContext && canvas.getContext('2d')); } </script> If you want to check for local storage support the following check can be made. It’s more involved than it should be due to a bug in older versions of Firefox. <script> window.onload = function () { if (localStorageSupported()) { alert('local storage supported'); } }; function localStorageSupported() { try { return ('localStorage' in window && window['localStorage'] != null); } catch(e) {} return false; } </script> Looking through the previous examples you can see that there’s more than meets the eye when it comes to checking browsers for HTML5 and CSS3 features. It takes a lot of work to test every possible scenario and every version of a given browser. Fortunately, you don’t have to resort to writing custom code to test what HTML5/CSS3 features a given browser supports. By using a script library called Modernizr you can add checks for different HTML5/CSS3 features into your pages with a minimal amount of code on your part. Let’s take a look at some of the key features Modernizr offers.   Getting Started with Modernizr The first time I heard the name “Modernizr” I thought it “modernized” older browsers by added missing functionality. In reality, Modernizr doesn’t actually handle adding missing features or “modernizing” older browsers. The Modernizr website states, “The name Modernizr actually stems from the goal of modernizing our development practices (and ourselves)”. Because it relies on feature detection rather than browser sniffing (a common technique used in the past – that never worked that great), Modernizr definitely provides a more modern way to test features that a browser supports and can even handle loading additional scripts called shims or polyfills that fill in holes that older browsers may have. It’s a great tool to have in your arsenal if you’re a web developer. Modernizr is available at http://modernizr.com. Two different types of scripts are available including a development script and custom production script. To generate a production script, the site provides a custom script generation tool rather than providing a single script that has everything under the sun for HTML5/CSS3 feature detection. Using the script generation tool you can pick the specific test functionality that you need and ignore everything that you don’t need. That way the script is kept as small as possible. An example of the custom script download screen is shown next. Notice that specific CSS3, HTML5, and related feature tests can be selected. Once you’ve downloaded your custom script you can add it into your web page using the standard <script> element and you’re ready to start using Modernizr. <script src="Scripts/Modernizr.js" type="text/javascript"></script>   Modernizr and the HTML Element Once you’ve add a script reference to Modernizr in a page it’ll go to work for you immediately. In fact, by adding the script several different CSS classes will be added to the page’s <html> element at runtime. These classes define what features the browser supports and what features it doesn’t support. Features that aren’t supported get a class name of “no-FeatureName”, for example “no-flexbox”. Features that are supported get a CSS class name based on the feature such as “canvas” or “websockets”. An example of classes added when running a page in Chrome is shown next:   <html class=" js flexbox canvas canvastext webgl no-touch geolocation postmessage websqldatabase indexeddb hashchange history draganddrop websockets rgba hsla multiplebgs backgroundsize borderimage borderradius boxshadow textshadow opacity cssanimations csscolumns cssgradients cssreflections csstransforms csstransforms3d csstransitions fontface generatedcontent video audio localstorage sessionstorage webworkers applicationcache svg inlinesvg smil svgclippaths"> Here’s an example of what the <html> element looks like at runtime with Internet Explorer 9:   <html class=" js no-flexbox canvas canvastext no-webgl no-touch geolocation postmessage no-websqldatabase no-indexeddb hashchange no-history draganddrop no-websockets rgba hsla multiplebgs backgroundsize no-borderimage borderradius boxshadow no-textshadow opacity no-cssanimations no-csscolumns no-cssgradients no-cssreflections csstransforms no-csstransforms3d no-csstransitions fontface generatedcontent video audio localstorage sessionstorage no-webworkers no-applicationcache svg inlinesvg smil svgclippaths">   When using Modernizr it’s a common practice to define an <html> element in your page with a no-js class added as shown next:   <html class="no-js">   You’ll see starter projects such as HTML5 Boilerplate (http://html5boilerplate.com) or Initializr (http://initializr.com) follow this approach (see my previous post for more information on HTML5 Boilerplate). By adding the no-js class it’s easy to tell if a browser has JavaScript enabled or not. If JavaScript is disabled then no-js will stay on the <html> element. If JavaScript is enabled, no-js will be removed by Modernizr and a js class will be added along with other classes that define supported/unsupported features. Working with HTML5 and CSS3 Features You can use the CSS classes added to the <html> element directly in your CSS files to determine what style properties to use based upon the features supported by a given browser. For example, the following CSS can be used to render a box shadow for browsers that support that feature and a simple border for browsers that don’t support the feature: .boxshadow #MyContainer { border: none; -webkit-box-shadow: #666 1px 1px 1px; -moz-box-shadow: #666 1px 1px 1px; } .no-boxshadow #MyContainer { border: 2px solid black; }   If a browser supports box-shadows the boxshadow CSS class will be added to the <html> element by Modernizr. It can then be associated with a given element. This example associates the boxshadow class with a div with an id of MyContainer. If the browser doesn’t support box shadows then the no-boxshadow class will be added to the <html> element and it can be used to render a standard border around the div. This provides a great way to leverage new CSS3 features in supported browsers while providing a graceful fallback for older browsers. In addition to using the CSS classes that Modernizr provides on the <html> element, you also use a global Modernizr object that’s created. This object exposes different properties that can be used to detect the availability of specific HTML5 or CSS3 features. For example, the following code can be used to detect canvas and local storage support. You can see that the code is much simpler than the code shown at the beginning of this post. It also has the added benefit of being tested by a large community of web developers around the world running a variety of browsers.   $(document).ready(function () { if (Modernizr.canvas) { //Add canvas code } if (Modernizr.localstorage) { //Add local storage code } }); The global Modernizr object can also be used to test for the presence of CSS3 features. The following code shows how to test support for border-radius and CSS transforms:   $(document).ready(function () { if (Modernizr.borderradius) { $('#MyDiv').addClass('borderRadiusStyle'); } if (Modernizr.csstransforms) { $('#MyDiv').addClass('transformsStyle'); } });   Several other CSS3 feature tests can be performed such as support for opacity, rgba, text-shadow, CSS animations, CSS transitions, multiple backgrounds, and more. A complete list of supported HTML5 and CSS3 tests that Modernizr supports can be found at http://www.modernizr.com/docs.   Loading Scripts using Modernizr In cases where a browser doesn’t support a specific feature you can either provide a graceful fallback or load a shim/polyfill script to fill in missing functionality where appropriate (more information about shims/polyfills can be found at https://github.com/Modernizr/Modernizr/wiki/HTML5-Cross-Browser-Polyfills). Modernizr has a built-in script loader that can be used to test for a feature and then load a script if the feature isn’t available. The script loader is built-into Modernizr and is also available as a standalone yepnope script (http://yepnopejs.com). It’s extremely easy to get started using the script loader and it can really simplify the process of loading scripts based on the availability of a particular browser feature. To load scripts dynamically you can use Modernizr’s load() function which accepts properties defining the feature to test (test property), the script to load if the test succeeds (yep property), the script to load if the test fails (nope property), and a script to load regardless of if the test succeeds or fails (both property). An example of using load() with these properties is show next: Modernizr.load({ test: Modernizr.canvas, yep: 'html5CanvasAvailable.js’, nope: 'excanvas.js’, both: 'myCustomScript.js' }); In this example Modernizr is used to not only load scripts but also to test for the presence of the canvas feature. If the target browser supports the HTML5 canvas then the html5CanvasAvailable.js script will be loaded along with the myCustomScript.js script (use of the yep property in this example is a bit contrived – it was added simply to demonstrate how the property can be used in the load() function). Otherwise, a polyfill script named excanvas.js will be loaded to add missing canvas functionality for Internet Explorer versions prior to 9. Once excanvas.js is loaded the myCustomScript.js script will be loaded. Because Modernizr handles loading scripts, you can also use it in creative ways. For example, you can use it to load local scripts when a 3rd party Content Delivery Network (CDN) such as one provided by Google or Microsoft is unavailable for whatever reason. The Modernizr documentation provides the following example that demonstrates the process for providing a local fallback for jQuery when a CDN is down:   Modernizr.load([ { load: '//ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.6.4/jquery.js', complete: function () { if (!window.jQuery) { Modernizr.load('js/libs/jquery-1.6.4.min.js'); } } }, { // This will wait for the fallback to load and // execute if it needs to. load: 'needs-jQuery.js' } ]); This code attempts to load jQuery from the Google CDN first. Once the script is downloaded (or if it fails) the function associated with complete will be called. The function checks to make sure that the jQuery object is available and if it’s not Modernizr is used to load a local jQuery script. After all of that occurs a script named needs-jQuery.js will be loaded. Conclusion If you’re building applications that use some of the latest and greatest features available in HTML5 and CSS3 then Modernizr is an essential tool. By using it you can reduce the amount of custom code required to test for browser features and provide graceful fallbacks or even load shim/polyfill scripts for older browsers to help fill in missing functionality.

  • Google and Bing Map APIs Compared

    - by SGWellens
    At one of the local golf courses I frequent, there is an open grass field next to the course. It is about eight acres in size and mowed regularly. It is permissible to hit golf balls there—you bring and shag our own balls. My golf colleagues and I spend hours there practicing, chatting and in general just wasting time. One of the guys brings Ginger, the amazing, incredible, wonder dog. Ginger is a Portuguese Pointer. She chases squirrels, begs for snacks and supervises us closely to make sure we don't misbehave.     Anyway, I decided to make a dedicated web page to measure distances on the field in yards using online mapping services. I started with Google maps and then did the same application with Bing maps. It is a good way to become familiar with the APIs. Here are images of the final two maps: Google:  Bing:   To start with online mapping services, you need to visit the respective websites and get a developers key. I pared the code down to the minimum to make it easier to compare the APIs. Google maps required this CSS (or it wouldn't work): <style type="text/css">     html     {         height: 100%;     }       body     {         height: 100%;         margin: 0;         padding: 0;     } Here is how the map scripts are included. Google requires the developer Key when loading the JavaScript, Bing requires it when the map object is created: Google: <script type="text/javascript" src="https://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/js?key=XXXXXXX&libraries=geometry&sensor=false" > </script> Bing: <script  type="text/javascript" src="http://ecn.dev.virtualearth.net/mapcontrol/mapcontrol.ashx?v=7.0"> </script> Note: I use jQuery to manipulate the DOM elements which may be overkill, but I may add more stuff to this application and I didn't want to have to add it later. Plus, I really like jQuery. Here is how the maps are created: Common Code (the same for both Google and Bing Maps):     <script type="text/javascript">         var gTheMap;         var gMarker1;         var gMarker2;           $(document).ready(DocLoaded);           function DocLoaded()         {             // golf course coordinates             var StartLat = 44.924254;             var StartLng = -93.366859;               // what element to display the map in             var mapdiv = $("#map_div")[0];   Google:         // where on earth the map should display         var StartPoint = new google.maps.LatLng(StartLat, StartLng);           // create the map         gTheMap = new google.maps.Map(mapdiv,             {                 center: StartPoint,                 zoom: 18,                 mapTypeId: google.maps.MapTypeId.SATELLITE             });           // place two markers         marker1 = PlaceMarker(new google.maps.LatLng(StartLat, StartLng + .0001));         marker2 = PlaceMarker(new google.maps.LatLng(StartLat, StartLng - .0001));           DragEnd(null);     } Bing:         // where on earth the map should display         var StartPoint = new  Microsoft.Maps.Location(StartLat, StartLng);           // create the map         gTheMap = new Microsoft.Maps.Map(mapdiv,             {                 credentials: 'Asbsa_hzfHl69XF3wxBd_WbW0dLNTRUH3ZHQG9qcV5EFRLuWEaOP1hjWdZ0A0P17',                 center: StartPoint,                 zoom: 18,                 mapTypeId: Microsoft.Maps.MapTypeId.aerial             });             // place two markers         marker1 = PlaceMarker(new Microsoft.Maps.Location(StartLat, StartLng + .0001));         marker2 = PlaceMarker(new Microsoft.Maps.Location(StartLat, StartLng - .0001));           DragEnd(null);     } Note: In the Bing documentation, mapTypeId: was missing from the list of options even though the sample code included it. Note: When creating the Bing map, use the developer Key for the credentials property. I immediately place two markers/pins on the map which is simpler that creating them on the fly with mouse clicks (as I first tried). The markers/pins are draggable and I capture the DragEnd event to calculate and display the distance in yards and draw a line when the user finishes dragging. Here is the code to place a marker: Google: // ---- PlaceMarker ------------------------------------   function PlaceMarker(location) {     var marker = new google.maps.Marker(         {             position: location,             map: gTheMap,             draggable: true         });     marker.addListener('dragend', DragEnd);     return marker; }   Bing: // ---- PlaceMarker ------------------------------------   function PlaceMarker(location) {     var marker = new Microsoft.Maps.Pushpin(location,     {         draggable : true     });     Microsoft.Maps.Events.addHandler(marker, 'dragend', DragEnd);     gTheMap.entities.push(marker);     return marker; } Here is the code than runs when the user stops dragging a marker: Google: // ---- DragEnd -------------------------------------------   var gLine = null;   function DragEnd(Event) {     var meters = google.maps.geometry.spherical.computeDistanceBetween(marker1.position, marker2.position);     var yards = meters * 1.0936133;     $("#message").text(yards.toFixed(1) + ' yards');    // draw a line connecting the points     var Endpoints = [marker1.position, marker2.position];       if (gLine == null)     {         gLine = new google.maps.Polyline({             path: Endpoints,             strokeColor: "#FFFF00",             strokeOpacity: 1.0,             strokeWeight: 2,             map: gTheMap         });     }     else        gLine.setPath(Endpoints); } Bing: // ---- DragEnd -------------------------------------------   var gLine = null;   function DragEnd(Args) {    var Distance =  CalculateDistance(marker1._location, marker2._location);      $("#message").text(Distance.toFixed(1) + ' yards');       // draw a line connecting the points    var Endpoints = [marker1._location, marker2._location];           if (gLine == null)    {        gLine = new Microsoft.Maps.Polyline(Endpoints,            {                strokeColor: new Microsoft.Maps.Color(0xFF, 0xFF, 0xFF, 0),  // aRGB                strokeThickness : 2            });          gTheMap.entities.push(gLine);    }    else        gLine.setLocations(Endpoints);  }   Note: I couldn't find a function to calculate the distance between points in the Bing API, so I wrote my own (CalculateDistance). If you want to see the source for it, you can pick it off the web page. Note: I was able to verify the accuracy of the measurements by using the golf hole next to the field. I put a pin/marker on the center of the green, and then by zooming in, I was able to see the 150 markers on the fairway and put the other pin/marker on one of them. Final Notes: All in all, the APIs are very similar. Both made it easy to accomplish a lot with a minimum amount of code. In one aerial view, there are leaves on the tree, in the other, the trees are bare. I don't know which service has the newer data. • CSS import or multiple CSS files

    - by David H
    I originally wanted to include a .css in my HTML doc that loads multiple other .css files in order to divide up some chunks of code for development purposes. I have created a test page: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <title>The Recipe Site</title> <link rel='stylesheet' href='/css/main.css'> <link rel='stylesheet' href='/css/site_header.css'> <!-- Let google host jQuery for us, maybeb replace with their api --> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4.1/jquery.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="/js/main.js"></script> </head> <body> <div id="site_container"> <div id="site_header"><?php include_once($r->base_dir . "inc/site_header.inc.php"); ?><!-- Include File, Update on ajax request. --></div> <div id="site_content"> Some main content. </div> <div id="site_footer"><?php include_once($r->base_dir . "inc/site_footer.inc.php"); ?><!-- Include File, Update on ajax request. --></div> </div> </body> </html> File: /css/main.css /* Reset Default Padding & Margin */ * { margin: 0; padding: 0; border: 0; } /* Set Our Float Classes */ .clear { clear: both; } .right { float: right; } .left { float: left; } /* Setup the main body/site container */ body { background: url(/images/wallpaper.png) repeat; color: #000000; text-align: center; font: 62.5%/1.5 "Lucida Grande", "Lucida Sans", Tahoma, Verdana, sans-serif; } site_container { background-color: #FFFFFF; height: 100%; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: left; width: 100%; } /* Some style sheet includes / / @import "/css/site_header.css"; */ /* Default Font Sizes */ h1 { font-size: 2.2em; } h2 { font-size: 2.0em; } h3 { font-size: 1.8em; } h4 { font-size: 1.6em; } h5 { font-size: 1.4em; } p { font-size: 1.2em; } /* Default Form Layout */ input.text { padding: 3px; border: 1px solid #999999; } /* Default Table Reset */ table { border-spacing: 0; border-collapse: collapse; } td{ text-align: left; font-weight: normal; } /* Cause not all browsers know what HTML5 is... */ header { display:block;} footer { display:block;} and now the file: /css/site_header.css: site_header { background-color: #c0c0c0; height: 100px; position: absolute; top: 100px; width: 100%; } Problem: When I use the above code, the site_header div does not have any formatting/background. When I remove the link line from the HTML doc for site_header.css and instead use an @import url("/css/site_header.css"); in my main.css file, the same results -- nothing gets rendered for for the same div. Now when I take the CSS markup from site_header.css and add it to main.css, the div gets rendered fine... So I am wondering if having multiple css files is somehow not working... or maybe having that css markup at the end of my previous css is somehow conflicting, though I cannot find a reason why it would.

  • Pagination links broken - php/jquery

    - by ClarkSKent
    Hey, I'm still trying to get my pagination links to load properly dynamically. But I can't seem to find a solution to this one problem. vote down star Hi everyone, I am still trying to figure out how to fix my pagination script to work properly. the problem I am having is when I click any of the pagination number links to go the next page, the new content does not load. literally nothing happens and when looking at the console in Firebug, nothing is sent or loaded. I have on the main page 3 links to filter the content and display it. When any of these links are clicked the results are loaded and displayed along with the associated pagination numbers for that specific content. I believe the problem is coming from the sql query in generate_pagination.php (seen below). When I hard code the sql category part it works, but is not dynamic at all. This is why I'm calling $ids=$_GET['ids']; and trying to put that into the category section but then the numbers don't display at all. If I echo out the $ids variable and click on a filter it does display the correct name/id, so I don't know why this doesn't work Here is the main page so you can see how I am including and starting the function(I'm new to php): <?php include_once('generate_pagination.php'); ?> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4.1/jquery.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="jquery_pagination.js"></script> <div id="loading" ></div> <div id="content" data-page="1"></div> <ul id="pagination"> <?php //Pagination Numbers for($i=1; $i<=$pages; $i++) { echo '<li class="page_numbers" id="page'.$i.'">'.$i.'</li>'; } ?> </ul> <br /> <br /> <a href="#" class="category" id="marketing">Marketing</a> <a href="#" class="category" id="automotive">Automotive</a> <a href="#" class="category" id="sports">Sports</a> Here is the generate pagination where the problem seems to occur: <?php $ids=$_GET['ids']; include_once('config.php'); $per_page = 3; //Calculating no of pages $sql = "SELECT COUNT(*) FROM explore WHERE category='$ids'"; $result = mysql_query($sql); $count = mysql_fetch_row($result); $pages = ceil($count[0]/$per_page); ?> I thought I might as well post the jquery script if someone wants to see: $(document).ready(function(){ //Display Loading Image function Display_Load() { $("#loading").fadeIn(900,0); $("#loading").html("<img src='bigLoader.gif' />"); } //Hide Loading Image function Hide_Load() { $("#loading").fadeOut('slow'); }; //Default Starting Page Results $("#pagination li:first").css({'color' : '#FF0084'}).css({'border' : 'none'}); Display_Load(); $("#content").load("pagination_data.php?page=1", Hide_Load()); // Editing below. // Sort content Marketing $("a.category").click(function() { Display_Load(); var this_id = $(this).attr('id'); $.get("pagination.php", { category: this.id }, function(data){ //Load your results into the page var pageNum = $('#content').attr('data-page'); $("#pagination").load('generate_pagination.php?category=' + pageNum +'&ids='+ this_id ); $("#content").load("filter_marketing.php?page=" + pageNum +'&id='+ this_id, Hide_Load()); }); }); //Pagination Click $("#pagination li").click(function(){ Display_Load(); //CSS Styles $("#pagination li") .css({'border' : 'solid #dddddd 1px'}) .css({'color' : '#0063DC'}); $(this) .css({'color' : '#FF0084'}) .css({'border' : 'none'}); //Loading Data var pageNum = $(this).attr("id").replace("page",""); $("#content").load("pagination_data.php?page=" + pageNum, function(){ $(this).attr('data-page', pageNum); Hide_Load(); }); }); }); If any could assist me on solving this problem that would be great, thanks.

  • jQuery CSS Custom Flyout Menu Styling Issue

    - by aherrick
    I'm close to nailing this flyout menu I have been working on, just have a couple of current pain points. I'm trying to get left/right padding on my submenu items, as you can see I am not quite there. Also when the first submenu is displayed, I want to create a bit of a gap between the first row of list items and the child. Below is my current code and a screen shot displaying what I want. Based on my current CSS, any thoughts on how to get this done in a clean way? <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" /> <title></title> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4.2/jquery.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> function mainmenu() { $("#nav ul").css({ display: "none" }); // Opera Fix $("#nav li").hover(function() { $(this).find('ul:first').css({ visibility: "visible", display: "none" }).show(400); }, function() { $(this).find('ul:first').css({ visibility: "hidden" }); }); } $(document).ready(function() { mainmenu(); }); </script> <style type="text/css"> * { padding: 0px; margin: 0px; } body { font-size: 0.85em; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; } #nav, #nav ul { margin: 0; padding: 0; list-style-type: none; list-style-position: outside; position: relative; } #nav a { display: block; padding: 4px 0px 4px 0px; color: #dfca90; text-decoration: none; background-color: #ECE9D8; font-size: 9px; font-weight: bold; font: bold 15px Palatino, 'Palatino Linotype' , Georgia, serif; } #nav > li > a { font-size: 16px; font-variant: small-caps; border-right: 1px solid #dfca90; padding-right: 10px; padding-left: 10px; padding-bottom: 6px; padding-top: 6px; background-color: #fff; color: #dfca90; } #nav li ul li a:hover { color: #999; } #nav li { float: left; position: relative; } #nav ul { position: absolute; display: none; width: 170px; border: 2px solid #dfca90; } #nav ul li { } #nav li ul a { width: 170px; height: auto; float: left; } #nav ul ul { top: -2px; } #nav li ul ul { left: 170px; background-color: #ECE9D8; } #nav li:hover ul ul, #nav li:hover ul ul ul, #nav li:hover ul ul ul ul { display: none; } #nav li:hover ul, #nav li li:hover ul, #nav li li li:hover ul, #nav li li li li:hover ul { display: block; } </style> </head> <body> <ul id="nav"> <li><a href="#">1 HTML</a></li> <li><a href="#">2 CSS</a></li> <li><a href="#">3 Javascript </a> <ul> <li><a href="#">3.1 jQuery</a> <ul> <li><a href="#">3.1.1 Download</a> </li> <li><a href="#">3.1.2 Tutorial</a> </li> </ul> </li> <li><a href="#">3.2 Mootools</a></li> <li><a href="#">3.3 Prototype</a></li> </ul> </li> </ul> </body> </html>

  • Changing name attr of cloned input element in jQuery doesn't work in IE6/7

    - by BalusC
    This SSCCE says it all: <!doctype html> <html lang="en"> <head> <title>Test</title> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1/jquery.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function() { $('#add').click(function() { var ul = $('#ul'); var liclone = ul.find('li:last').clone(true); var input = liclone.find('input'); input.attr('name', input.attr('name').replace(/(foo\[)(\d+)(\])/, function(f, p1, p2, p3) { return p1 + (parseInt(p2) + 1) + p3; })); liclone.appendTo(ul); $('#showsource').text(ul.html()); }); }); </script> </head> <body> <ul id="ul"> <li><input type="text" name="foo[0]"></li> </ul> <button id="add">Add</button> <pre id="showsource"></pre> </body> </html> Copy'n'paste'n'run it, click the Add button several times. On every click you should see the HTML code of the <ul> to show up in the <pre id="showsource"> and the expected code should roughly be: <li><input name="foo[0]" type="text"></li> <li><input name="foo[1]" type="text"></li> <li><input name="foo[2]" type="text"></li> <li><input name="foo[3]" type="text"></li> This works as expected in FF, Chrome, Safari, Opera and IE8. However, IE6/7 fails in changing the name attribute and produces like: <li><input name="foo[0]" type="text"> <li><input name="foo[0]" type="text"> <li><input name="foo[0]" type="text"> <li><input name="foo[0]" type="text"></li> I googled a bit and found this very similar problem, he fixed it and posted a code snippet how it should have look like. Unfortunately this is exactly what I already have done, so I suspect that he was only testing in IE8, not in IE6/7. Other than that particular topic Google didn't reveal much. Any insights? Or do I really have to grab back to document.createElement? Note: I know that I can use just the same name for each input element and retrieve them as an array, but the above is just a basic example, in real I really need to have the name attribute changed, because it not only contains the index, but also other information such as parentindex, ordering, etc. It's been used to add/rearrange/remove (sub)menu items. Edit: this is related to this bug, The jQuery (I'm using 1.3.2) does thus not seem to create inputs that way? The following does just work: $('#add').click(function() { var ul = $('#ul'); var liclone = ul.find('li:last').clone(true); var oldinput = liclone.find('input'); var name = oldinput.attr('name').replace(/(foo\[)(\d+)(\])/, function(f, p1, p2, p3) { return p1 + (parseInt(p2) + 1) + p3; }); var newinput = $('<input name="' + name + '">'); oldinput.replaceWith(newinput); liclone.appendTo(ul); $('#showsource').text(ul.html()); }); But I can't imagine that I am the only one who encountered this problem with jQuery. Even a simple $('<input>').attr('name', 'foo') doesn't work in IE6/7. Isn't jQuery as being a crossbrowser library supposed to cover this particular issue under the hoods?

  • jQuery Form Processing With PHP to MYSQL Database Using $.ajax Request

    - by FrustratedUser
    Question: How can I process a form using jQuery and the $.ajax request so that the data is passed to a script which writes it to a database? Problem: I have a simple email signup form that when processed, adds the email along with the current date to a table in a MySQL database. Processing the form without jQuery works as intended, adding the email and date. With jQuery, the form submits successfully and returns the success message. However, no data is added to the database. Any insight would be greatly appreciated! <!-- PROCESS.PHP --> <?php // DB info $dbhost = '#'; $dbuser = '#'; $dbpass = '#'; $dbname = '#'; // Open connection to db $conn = mysql_connect($dbhost, $dbuser, $dbpass) or die ('Error connecting to mysql'); mysql_select_db($dbname); // Form variables $email = $_POST['email']; $submitted = $_POST['submitted']; // Clean up function cleanData($str) { $str = trim($str); $str = strip_tags($str); $str = strtolower($str); return $str; } $email = cleanData($email); $error = ""; if(isset($submitted)) { if($email == '') { $error .= '<p class="error">Please enter your email address.</p>' .   • Why ????? is displayed instead of non-english characters?

    - by smhnaji
    I first created a simple HTML page that uses UTF-8 as its character encoding. Then I moved the HTML content as a view in codeigniter and it was still ok (I had used non-english characters that were ok as always) I added a simple dynamic functionality (there is a contact us form in it that emails users feedback to site admin). Please note that the characters were ok at localhost (which is a LAMP server running on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS) Strange is that when I uploaded the app to server, all persian characters are shown as ???? (For example ??? (which means Name) is shown ??? and so so...) I have not even connected to mysql or any other DBMS. It's the only page in the website (it's more an under construction page) and nothing else has been used in it. Maybe I should state that I have also used session library to thank the user after his feedback was sent to admins, nothing else. I have really no idea about the problem. UPDATE Now I can see that the problem is only with cPanel. On Directadmin I can see that everything is normal. Both Chromium and Firefox DO use UTF-8 as page's character encoding. • How to make a form using ajax, onchange event, reload to SAME page

    - by user1348220
    I've been studying this for a while and I'm not sure if I'm going about this the right way because every form I setup according to examples, it doesn't do what I need. I need to setup a form that will: set session when you select from dropdown menu not reload/refresh page (i've read that using AJAX solves this) submit and stay on SAME page (confused because most AJAX examples send it to different process.php page which is supposedly "invisible" but it doesn't "stay" on the same page, it redirects. Basically, client selects quantity of 1 to 10. If they select "2"... it does NOT reload the page.. but it DOES set a session[quantity]=2. Should be simple... but do I POST to same page as form? or POST to different page and it somehow redirects? Also, one test I did it kept pasting my "echo session[quantity]" down the page like 7, 2, 3, 5, etc. etc. each time instead of replacing it. I would paste code but it's all over the place and I'm hoping for direction on which methods to use. Feel I need to start all over again. Edit: trying to add code below but can't seem to paste it properly. <? ob_start();?> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <?php session_start(); ?> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <title>Submit Form with out refreshing page Tutorial</title> <!-- JavaScript --> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.3.0/jquery.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" > $(function() { $(".submit").click(function() { var gender = $("#gender").val(); var dataString = '&gender=' + gender; if(gender=='') { $('.success').fadeOut(200).hide(); $('.error').fadeOut(200).show(); } else { $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "join.php", data: dataString, success: function(){ $('.success').fadeIn(200).show(); $('.error').fadeOut(200).hide(); } }); } return false; }); }); </script> <style type="text/css"> body{ } .error{ color:#d12f19; font-size:12px; } .success{ color:#006600; font-size:12px; } </style> </head> <body id="public"> <div style="height:30px"></div> <div id="container"> <div style="height:30px"></div> <form method="post" name="form"> <select id="gender" name="gender"> <option value="">Gender</option> <option value="male">Male</option> <option value="female">Female</option> </select> <div> <input type="submit" value="Submit" class="submit"/> <span class="error" style="display:none"> Please Enter Valid Data</span> <span class="success" style="display:none"> Your gender is <?php echo $_SESSION['gender'];?></span> </div> </form> <div style="height:20px"></div> </div><!--container--> </body> </html> <? ob_flush(); ?> and here is my page where the POST goes called join.php (called that in example so I went with it for now) <?php session_start(); if($_POST) { $gender = $_POST['gender']; $_SESSION['gender'] = $gender; } else { } ?>

  • Javascript: selfmade methods not working correctly

    - by hdr
    Hi everyone, I tried to figure this out for some days now, I tried to use my own object to sort of replace the global object to reduce problems with other scripts (userscripts, chrome extensions... that kind of stuff). However I can't get things to work for some reason. I tried some debugging with JSLint, the developer tools included in Google Chrome, Firebug and the integrated schript debugger in IE8 but there is no error that explains why it doesn't work at all in any browser I tried. I tried IE 8, Google Chrome 10.0.612.3 dev, Firefox 3.6.13, Safari 5.0.3 and Opera 11. So... here is the code: HTML: <!DOCTYPE HTML> <html manifest="c.manifest"> <head> <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=edge,chrome=1"> <meta charset="utf-8"> <!--[if IE]> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/chrome-frame/1/CFInstall.min.js"></script> <script src="https://ie7-js.googlecode.com/svn/version/2.1(beta4)/IE9.js">IE7_PNG_SUFFIX=".png";</script> <![endif]--> <!--[if lt IE 9]> <script src="js/lib/excanvas.js"></script> <script src="https://html5shiv.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/html5.js"></script> <![endif]--> <script src="js/data.js"></script> </head> <body> <div id="controls"> <button onclick="MYOBJECTis.next()">Next</button> </div> <div id="textfield"></div> <canvas id="game"></canvas> </body> </html> Javascript: var that = window, it = document, k = Math.floor; var MYOBJECTis = { aresizer: function(){ // This method looks like it doesn't work. // It should automatically resize all the div elements and the body. // JSLint: no error (execpt for "'window' is not defined." which is normal since // JSLint does nor recognize references to the global object like "window" or "self" // even if you assume a browser) // Firebug: no error // Chrome dev tools: no error // IE8: that.documentElement.clientWidth is null or not an object "use strict"; var a = that.innerWidth || that.documentElement.clientWidth, d = that.innerHeight || that.documentElement.clientHeight; (function() { for(var b = 0, c = it.getElementsByTagName("div");b < c.length;b++) { c.style.width = k(c.offsetWidth) / 100 * k(a); c.style.height = k(c.offsetHight) / 100 * k(d); } }()); (function() { var b = it.getElementsByTagName("body"); b.width = a; b.height = d; }()); }, next: function(){ // This method looks like it doesn't work. // It should change the text inside a div element // JSLint: no error (execpt for "'window' is not defined.") // Firebug: no error // Chrome dev tools: no error // IE8: no error (execpt for being painfully slow) "use strict"; var b = it.getElementById("textfield"), a = [], c; switch(c !== typeof Number){ case true: a[1] = ["HI"]; c = 0; break; case false: return Error; default: b.innerHtml = a[c]; c+=1; } } }; // auto events (function(){ "use strict"; that.onresize = MYOBJECTis.aresizer(); }()); If anyone can help me out with this I would very much appreciate it. EDIT: To answer the question what's not working I can just say that no method I showed here is working at all and I don't know the cause of the problem. I also tried to clean up some of the code that has most likely nothing to do with it. Additional information is in the comments inside the code.

  • Pagination links do not work after first page

    - by TheStack
    Hello, I am trying to fix this pagination script. It seems when I click on the pagination links [1][2][3][4]or[5] , it doesn't work. It just shows the first page and when clicking on the next numbers nothing happens. I hoping someone can see something in the script that I can not see. The main page looks like this (pagination.php): <?php include_once('generate_pagination.php'); ?> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4.1/jquery.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="jquery_pagination.js"></script> <div id="loading" ></div> <div id="content" data-page="1"></div> <ul id="pagination"> <?php generate_pagination() ?> </ul> <br /> <br /> <a href="#" class="category" id="marketing">Marketing</a> <a href="#" class="category" id="automotive">Automotive</a> <a href="#" class="category" id="sports">Sports</a> Then, generate_pagination.php: <?php function generate_pagination($sql) { include_once('config.php'); $per_page = 3; //Calculating no of pages $result = mysql_query($sql); $count = mysql_fetch_row($result); $pages = ceil($count[0]/$per_page); //Pagination Numbers for($i=1; $i<=$pages; $i++) { echo '<li class="page_numbers" id="'.$i.'">'.$i.'</li>'; } } $ids=$_GET['ids']; generate_pagination("SELECT COUNT(*) FROM explore WHERE category='$ids'"); ?> Here is the jquery file (jquery_pagination.js): $(document).ready(function(){ //Display Loading Image function Display_Load() { $("#loading").fadeIn(900,0); $("#loading").html("<img src='bigLoader.gif' />"); } //Hide Loading Image function Hide_Load() { $("#loading").fadeOut('slow'); }; //Default Starting Page Results $("#pagination li:first").css({'color' : '#FF0084'}).css({'border' : 'none'}); Display_Load(); $("#content").load("pagination_data.php?page=1", Hide_Load()); //Pagination Click $("#pagination li").click(function(){ Display_Load(); //CSS Styles $("#pagination li") .css({'border' : 'solid #dddddd 1px'}) .css({'color' : '#0063DC'}); $(this) .css({'color' : '#FF0084'}) .css({'border' : 'none'}); //Loading Data var pageNum = this.id; $("#content").load("pagination_data.php?page=" + pageNum, function(){ Hide_Load(); $(this).attr('data-page', pageNum); }); }); // Editing below. // Sort content Marketing $("a.category").click(function() { Display_Load(); var this_id = $(this).attr('id'); $.get("pagination.php", { category: this.id }, function(data){ //Load your results into the page var pageNum = $('#content').attr('data-page'); $("#pagination").load('generate_pagination.php?category=' + pageNum +'&ids='+ this_id ); $("#content").load("filter_marketing.php?page=" + pageNum +'&id='+ this_id, Hide_Load()); }); }); }); Lastly, filter_marketing.php (when a user clicks the filter link buttons): <?php include('config.php'); $per_page = 3; if(count($_GET)>0) { if($_GET['page']!=''){ $page=$_GET['page']; } if($_GET['id']!=''){ $id=$_GET['id']; } } $page= ($_GET['page']!='') ? $_GET['page']: false; $id= ($_GET['id']!='') ? $_GET['id']: false; $start = ($page-1)*$per_page; if($page && $id){ $sql = "SELECT * FROM explore WHERE category='$id' ORDER BY category LIMIT $start,$per_page"; } else { die('Error: missing parameters.   • CSS drop-down menus pushing page content down

    - by Mason Jones
    This is probably (hopefully) a pretty simple question, but I can't seem to get it to work so I'll turn to the experts here. I'm using a pretty straightforward CSS drop-down menu, with just a little JQuery involved. The issue is that when I hover over the drop-down and it opens, it's pushing everything on the page down below it rather then opening over it. I've tried messing with the z-index but that doesn't seem to be the issue. Any tips would be fantastic, thanks in advance. Here's the HTML; sorry it's not super-pretty, I had to rip out a bunch of stuff to make it simple and generic. <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <HTML style="zoom: 100%; "> <HEAD> <script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4.0/jquery.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script> </HEAD> <BODY class="bodyclass" style="background:#BCE2F1; height: 100%;"> <DIV id="maincontainer" style="min-height: 100%;"> <STYLE type="text/css"> #cssdropdown, #cssdropdown ul { font-size: 9pt; background-color: black; list-style: none; } #cssdropdown, #cssdropdown * { padding: 0; margin: 0; } #cssdropdown li.headlink { width: 140px; float: left; margin-left: -1px; border: 1px black solid; background-color: white; text-align: center; } #cssdropdown li.headlink a { display: block; color: #339804; padding: 3px; text-decoration: none; } #cssdropdown li.headlink a:hover { background-color: #F8E0AC; font-weight: bold; } #cssdropdown li.headlink ul { display: none; border-top: 1px black solid; text-align: left; } #cssdropdown li.headlink:hover ul { display: block; text-decoration: none; } #cssdropdown li.headlink ul li a { padding: 5px; height: 15px; } #cssdropdown li.headlink ul li a:hover { background-color: #CCE9F5; text-decoration: none; font-weight: normal; } /* #cssdropdown a { color: #CCE9F5; } */ #cssdropdown ul li a:hover { text-decoration: none; } #cssdropdown li.headlink { background-color: white; } #cssdropdown li.headlink ul { background-color: white; background-position: bottom; padding-bottom: 2px; } </STYLE> <SCRIPT language="JavaScript"> $(document).ready(function(){ $('#cssdropdown li.headlink').hover( function() { $('ul', this).css('display', 'block'); }, function() { $('ul', this).css('display', 'none'); }); }); </SCRIPT> <DIV class="navigation_box" style="border: none;"> <DIV class="innercontent"> <DIV style="background: white; float: left; padding: 5px; border: solid 1px black;"> LOGO </DIV> <DIV class="navmenu" style="float: right; bottom: 0; font-size: 9pt; text-align: right;"> <SPAN>Logged in as [email protected]</SPAN><BR> <UL id="cssdropdown"> <LI class="headlink"> <A href="http://localhost:3000/one">One</A> <UL style="display: none; "> <LI><A href="http://localhost:3000/one">Option One</A></LI> <LI><A href="http://localhost:3000/one">Option Two</A></LI> <LI><A href="http://localhost:3000/one">Option Three</A></LI> <LI><A href="http://localhost:3000/one">Option Four</A></LI> </UL> </LI> <LI class="headlink"> <A href="http://localhost:3000/two">Two</A> <UL style="display: none; "> <LI><A href="http://localhost:3000/two">Option Two-One</A></LI> <LI><A href="http://localhost:3000/two">Option Two-Two</A></LI> <LI><A href="http://localhost:3000/two">Option Two-Three</A></LI> </UL> </LI> <LI class="headlink" style="width: 80px;"> <A href="http://localhost:3000/three">Three</A> </LI> <LI class="headlink" style="width: 300px; padding-top: 2px; height: 19px;"> <FORM action="http://localhost:3000/search" method="post"> <P> Search: <INPUT id="searchwords" name="searchwords" size="20" type="text" value=""> <INPUT name="commit" type="submit" value="Find"> </P> </FORM> </LI> <LI class="headlink" style="width: 60px;"> <A href="http://localhost:3000/four">Four</A> </LI> <LI class="headlink" style="width: 60px;"> <A href="http://localhost:3000/logout">Logout</A> </LI> </UL> </DIV> </DIV> </DIV> <DIV id="contentwrapper" style="clear:both"> <DIV class="innercontent" style="margin: 0px 20px 20px 20px;"> <H1>Some test content here to fill things out a little bit.</H1> </DIV> </DIV> </DIV> <DIV id="footer" style="clear: both; float: bottom;"> <DIV class="innercontent" style="font-size: 10px;"> Copyright 2008-2010 </DIV> </DIV> </BODY>

  • Contact Form + jQuery validationengine

    - by BigMad
    I created this contact form, inserting jQuery fadeLabel and validationEngine to beautify the form the file index.php / .html (I have not yet figured out which of the two versions put it) scripts are index: <script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.7.2/jquery.min.js"></script> <script src="/js/backtop.js"></script> <script src="/js/fadeLabel.js"></script> <script> $(document).ready(function () { $('form .fadeLabel').fadeLabel(); }); </script> <script src="/js/validationEngine-it.js"></script> <script src="/js/validationEngine.js"></script> <script> $(document).ready(function(){ $("#form_box").validationEngine({ ajaxSubmit: true, ajaxSubmitFile: "contact.php", ajaxSubmitMessage: "Thank you, We will contact you soon !", success : false, failure : function() {} }) }); </script> <script src="/js/contactform.js"></script> however this is the part of the form's code <p id="form_success" class="success hide"><strong>Grazie!</strong> Il tuo messaggio è stato inviato con successo.</p> <form id="form_box"> <fieldset> <p><label for="name">Nome*</label><input type="text" id="name" name="name" class="validate[required] fadeLabel" value=""/></p> <p><label for="email">E-mail*</label><input type="email" id="email" name="email" class="validate[required,custom[email]] fadeLabel" value=""/></p> <p><label for="website">Sito web</label><input type="url" id="website" name="website" class="fadeLabel" value=""/></p> <p><label for="message">Messaggio*</label><textarea id="message" name="message" class="validate[required] fadeLabel" cols="30" rows="10" value=""></textarea></p> </fieldset> <p id="form_submit" class="submit"><button class="send">Invia</button> *Campi obbligatori</p> <p id="form_send" class="send hide">Invio in corso&hellip;</p> <p id="form_error" class="submit error hide"><button class="send">Invia</button> Si prega di correggere l'errore e re-inviarlo.</p> </form> This is the contact.php where it receives the data and sends 2 emails (one for me with the data and a thank you to those who contacted me) contact.php: <?php //include variables $my_email = "[email protected]"; $my_site = "adrianogenovese.com"; session_start(); $name = $_POST['name']; $email = $_POST['email']; $website = $_POST['website']; $message = $_POST['message']; $ip = $_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR']; //beginning to email me $to = $my_email; $sbj = "Richiesta Informazioni - $my_site"; $msg = " <html> ... //the body of the email to me ... </html> "; $from = $email; $headers = 'MIME-Version: 1.0' . SlideUp (). FadeOut () so that the sending of this email appears for 3 seconds "$ (" # form_send "). addClass ('hide')" before you do anything else then the form disappears up using some second type slideUp "$ (" # form_box "). addClass ('hide')" by displaying just the "$ (" # form_success "). removeClass ('hide')" in the address bar also appears the form data (e.g. ../index.php?name=test&email=example%40mail.com&website=&message=helloworld)

  • MediaElement.js setSrc() Loading The File But Not Changing pluginType

    - by doubleJ
    I'm working on a page that uses mediaelement.js to play mp3/mp4/wmv (yes, we have a lot of wmv). I have a list of links and those links should change the player. My effort is to make the changes to the player through javascript so that the page doesn't refresh. This code is working, but it refreshes every time. See a live demo of the non-ajax version. <?php $file = null; $file = $_GET["file"]; $format = null; if (preg_match("/mp4/i", $file)) $format = "mp4"; if (preg_match("/webm/i", $file)) $format = "webm"; if (preg_match("/wmv/i", $file)) $format = "wmv"; if (preg_match("/mp3/i", $file)) $format = "mp3"; if (preg_match("/ogg/i", $file)) $format = "ogg"; $mime = null; if ($format == "mp4") $mime = "video/mp4"; if ($format == "webm") $mime = "video/webm"; if ($format == "wmv") $mime = "video/wmv"; if ($format == "mp3") $mime = "audio/mp3"; if ($format == "ogg") $mime = "audio/ogg"; $element = "video"; if ($format == "mp3" || $format == "ogg") $element = "audio"; // you have to escape (\) the escape (\) character (hehehe...) $poster = "media\\120701Video.jpg"; $height = "360"; if ($format == "mp3") $height = "30"; ?> <!doctype html> <html> <head> <meta charset="utf-8"> <title>Embed</title> <link rel="stylesheet" href="include/johndyer-mediaelement-b090320/build/mediaelementplayer.min.css"> <style> audio {width:640px; height:30px;} video {width:640px; height:360px;} </style> <script src="include/johndyer-mediaelement-b090320/build/jquery.js"></script> <script src="include/johndyer-mediaelement-b090320/build/mediaelement-and-player.js"></script> </head> <body> <ul> <li><a href="embed.php">Reset</a></li> <li><a href="?file=media/120701Video-AnyVideoConverter.mp4">Alternative (mp4)</a></li> <li><a href="?file=media/120701Video-Ffmpeg-Defaults.webm">Alternative (webm)</a></li> <li><a href="?file=media/AreYouHurting-Death.wmv">Alternative (wmv)</a><li> <li><a href="?file=media/AreYouHurting-Death.mp3">Alternative (mp3)</a></li> </ul> <?php if ($file) { ?> <video src="<?php echo $file; ?>" controls poster="<?php echo $poster; ?>" width="640" height="360"></video> <div id="type"></div> <script> var video = document.getElementsByTagName("video")[0]; var player = new MediaElementPlayer(video, { success: function(player) { $('#type').html(player.pluginType); } }); <?php } ?> </script> </body> </html> This code requires <video> to be loaded, initially and with a file, so that the player mode (pluginType) is set. It will, then, only play formats that the pre-established mode supports (firefox in native mode won't play mp4). See a live demo of the ajax version. <!doctype html> <html> <head> <meta charset="utf-8"> <title>Embed</title> <link rel="stylesheet" href="http://www.mediaelementjs.com/js/mejs-2.9.2/mediaelementplayer.min.css"> <script src="//ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.7.2/jquery.min.js"></script> <script src="http://www.mediaelementjs.com/js/mejs-2.9.2/mediaelement-and-player.js"></script> </head> <body> <ul> <li><a href="javascript:player.pause(); player.setSrc('media/120701Video-AnyVideoConverter.mp4'); player.load(); player.play();">Alternative (mp4)</a></li> <li><a href="javascript:player.pause(); player.setSrc('media/120701Video-Ffmpeg-Defaults.webm'); player.load(); player.play();">Alternative (webm)</a></li> <li><a href="javascript:player.pause(); player.setSrc('media/AreYouHurting-Death.wmv'); player.load(); player.play();">Alternative (wmv)</a></li> <li><a href="javascript:player.pause(); player.setSrc('media/AreYouHurting-Death.mp3'); player.load(); player.play();">Alternative (mp3)</a></li> </ul> <video controls src="media/WordProductionCenter.mp4"></video> <div id="type"></div> <script> var video = document.getElementsByTagName("video")[0]; var player = new MediaElementPlayer(video, { success: function(player) { $('#type').html(player.pluginType); } }); </script> </body> </html> It seems like I need something like setType(), but I see no such option. I've read a couple pages that referenced refreshing the DOM after the javascript runs, but I haven't been able to successfully do it (I know enough about javascript to hack things around and get stuff working, but not enough to create whole new things). It is worth noting that Silverlight doesn't work with Internet Explorer 8 or Safari (not sure if it's my code, mejs, or the browsers). Also, neither Silverlight nor Flash play mp3 or webm (again, not sure where the problem lies). Is there a way to dynamically load different types of files into mediaelement?

  • Save object states in .data or attr - Performance vs CSS?

    - by Neysor
    In response to my answer yesterday about rotating an Image, Jamund told me to use .data() instead of .attr() First I thought that he is right, but then I thought about a bigger context... Is it always better to use .data() instead of .attr()? I looked in some other posts like what-is-better-data-or-attr or jquery-data-vs-attrdata The answers were not satisfactory for me... So I moved on and edited the example by adding CSS. I thought it might be useful to make a different Style on each image if it rotates. My style was the following: .rp[data-rotate="0"] { border:10px solid #FF0000; } .rp[data-rotate="90"] { border:10px solid #00FF00; } .rp[data-rotate="180"] { border:10px solid #0000FF; } .rp[data-rotate="270"] { border:10px solid #00FF00; } Because design and coding are often separated, it could be a nice feature to handle this in CSS instead of adding this functionality into JavaScript. Also in my case the data-rotate is like a special state which the image currently has. So in my opinion it make sense to represent it within the DOM. I also thought this could be a case where it is much better to save with .attr() then with .data(). Never mentioned before in one of the posts I read. But then i thought about performance. Which function is faster? I built my own test following: <!DOCTYPE HTML> <html> <head> <title>test</title> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.7.1/jquery.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> function runfirst(dobj,dname){ console.log("runfirst "+dname); console.time(dname+"-attr"); for(i=0;i<10000;i++){ dobj.attr("data-test","a"+i); } console.timeEnd(dname+"-attr"); console.time(dname+"-data"); for(i=0;i<10000;i++){ dobj.data("data-test","a"+i); } console.timeEnd(dname+"-data"); } function runlast(dobj,dname){ console.log("runlast "+dname); console.time(dname+"-data"); for(i=0;i<10000;i++){ dobj.data("data-test","a"+i); } console.timeEnd(dname+"-data"); console.time(dname+"-attr"); for(i=0;i<10000;i++){ dobj.attr("data-test","a"+i); } console.timeEnd(dname+"-attr"); } $().ready(function() { runfirst($("#rp4"),"#rp4"); runfirst($("#rp3"),"#rp3"); runlast($("#rp2"),"#rp2"); runlast($("#rp1"),"#rp1"); }); </script> </head> <body> <div id="rp1">Testdiv 1</div> <div id="rp2" data-test="1">Testdiv 2</div> <div id="rp3">Testdiv 3</div> <div id="rp4" data-test="1">Testdiv 4</div> </body> </html> It should also show if there is a difference with a predefined data-test or not. One result was this: runfirst #rp4 #rp4-attr: 515ms #rp4-data: 268ms runfirst #rp3 #rp3-attr: 505ms #rp3-data: 264ms runlast #rp2 #rp2-data: 260ms #rp2-attr: 521ms runlast #rp1 #rp1-data: 284ms #rp1-attr: 525ms So the .attr() function did always need more time than the .data() function. This is an argument for .data() I thought. Because performance is always an argument! Then I wanted to post my results here with some questions, and in the act of writing I compared with the questions Stack Overflow showed me (similar titles) And true enough, there was one interesting post about performance I read it and run their example. And now I am confused! This test showed that .data() is slower then .attr() !?!! Why is that so? First I thought it is because of a different jQuery library so I edited it and saved the new one. But the result wasn't changing... So now my questions to you: Why are there some differences in the performance in these two examples? Would you prefer to use data- HTML5 attributes instead of data, if it represents a state? Although it wouldn't be needed at the time of coding? Why - Why not? Now depending on the performance: Would performance be an argument for you using .attr() instead of data, if it shows that .attr() is better? Although data is meant to be used for .data()? UPDATE 1: I did see that without overhead .data() is much faster. Misinterpreted the data :) But I'm more interested in my second question. :) Would you prefer to use data- HTML5 attributes instead of data, if it represents a state? Although it wouldn't be needed at the time of coding? Why - Why not? Are there some other reasons you can think of, to use .attr() and not .data()? e.g. interoperability? because .data() is jquery style and HTML Attributes can be read by all... UPDATE 2: As we see from T.J Crowder's speed test in his answer attr is much faster then data! which is again confusing me :) But please! Performance is an argument, but not the highest! So give answers to my other questions please too!
