  • Directory and Sub Directory listing

    - by shekhar
I am trying to list the directory name (only name, not full path) and sub directories (only name, not full path) inside it. There is only one level of sub directories. I used below script to do this: @echo off&setlocal enableextensions for /r "PATH" %%G in (.) do ( Pushd %%G for %%* in (.) do set MyDir=%%~n* echo %MyDir% popd ) endlocal&goto :eof The problem with the above script is that it is showing root directory with the full path. How can I just make it show the directories in relation to the one I am working in?

  • SVN Authentication with LDAP and Active Directory

    - by Alex Holsgrove
I am having a few problems getting SVN authentication to work with LDAP / Active Directory. My SVN installation works fine, but after enabling LDAP in my apache vhost, I just can't get my users to authenticate. I can use a selection of LDAP browsers to successfully connect to Active Directory, but just can't seem to get this to work. SVN is setup in /var/local/svn Server is svn.domain.local For testing, my repository is /var/local/svn/test My vhost file is as follows: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerAdmin [email protected] ServerAlias svn.domain.local ServerName svn.domain.local DocumentRoot /var/www/svn/ <Location /test> DAV svn #SVNListParentPath On SVNPath /var/local/svn/test AuthzSVNAccessFile /var/local/svn/svnaccess AuthzLDAPAuthoritative off AuthType Basic AuthName "SVN Server" AuthBasicProvider ldap AuthLDAPBindDN "CN=adminuser,OU=SBSAdmin Users,OU=Users,OU=MyBusiness,DC=domain,DC=local" AuthLDAPBindPassword "admin password" AuthLDAPURL "ldap://192.168.1.6:389/OU=SBSUsers,OU=Users,OU=MyBusiness,DC=domain,DC=local?sAMAccountName?sub?(objectClass=*)" Require valid-user </Location> CustomLog /var/log/apache2/svn/access.log combined ErrorLog /var/log/apache2/svn/error.log </VirtualHost> In my error.log, I don't seem to get any bind errors (should I be looking elsewhere?), but just the following: [Thu Jun 21 09:51:38 2012] [error] [client 192.168.1.142] user alex: authentication failure for "/test/": Password Mismatch, referer: http://svn.domain.local/test/ At the end of "AuthLDAPURL", I have seen people using TLS and NONE but neither seem to help in my case. I have the ldap modules loaded and have checked as much as I know, so any help would be most welcome. Thanks

  • What are problems and pitfalls with a public facing Active Directory

    - by Ralph Shillington
The situation that i'm faced with is this: We plan on using a number of server applications hosted on Amazon EC2 machines, mainly Microsoft Team Foundation Server. These services rely heavily on Active Directory. Since our servers are in the Amazon cloud it should go without saying (but I will) that all our users are remote. It seems that we can't setup VPN on our EC2 instance -- so the users will have to join the domain, directly over the internet then they'll be able to authenticate and once authenticated, use that token for accessing resources such as TFS. on the DC instance, I can shut down all ports, except those needed for joining/authenicating to the domain. I can also filter the IP on that machine to just those address that we are expecting our users to be at (it's a small group) On the web based application servers, I imagine all we need to open is port 80 (or 8080 in the case of TFS) One of the problems that I'm faced with is what domain name to use for this Active directory. Should I go with "ourDomainName.com" or "OurDomainName.local" If I choose the latter, does that not mean that I'll have to get all our users to change their DNS address to point to our server, so it can resolve the domain name (I guess I could also distribute a host file) Perhaps there is another alternative that I'm completely missing.

  • Copy a file from source directory to target base directory and maintain source path

    - by Citizen Dos
Forgive me, I am probably not using the right terms to describe the problem and misunderstanding the most basic usage for a couple of common commands. I have a simple find statement that is locating files that I want to copy. I want to tack on the -exec cp {} and have cp copy the file from the source directory to a new base directory, but include the full path. For example: "find . -name *.txt" locates /user/username/projects/source.txt "cp {} [now what?]" copies the file to /user/newuser/projects/source.txt

  • Change default profile directory per group

    - by Joel Coel
Is it possible to force windows to create profiles for members of one active directory group in a different folder from members in another active directory group? The school here uses DeepFreeze to protect public computers. In a nutshell, DeepFreeze prevents all changes to a hard drive such that every time you restart the machine the disk is identical to it was at the time you froze it. This is a bit different than restoring to an image, in that it never really wrote changes to disk in a permanent way in the first place. This has a few advantages over images: faster recover times, and it's easy to thaw the machine for a few minutes to perform maintenance such as windows updates (which can even be automated). DeepFreeze also allows you to configure a "thawspace" partition, where changes are persistent across reboots. One of the weaknesses of DeepFreeze is that you end up needing to create a new profile every time you log in, unless your profile existed at the time the machine was frozen. And even then, any changes you make to your profile while working on a frozen machine are lost. As students have frequent legitimate needs to log in to our classroom machines, there is currently a lot of cleanup involved from time to time in removing their old profiles and changes, so I want to extend DeepFreeze to protect our classroom computers as well as public computers. The problem is that faculty have a real need to keep a stateful profile locally on these classroom computers. The solution I would like to use is to configure Windows via group policy (or even manually, if that's the way I'll have to do it) to place profile folders on the thawspace partition, but only for members of the faculty security group. Is this possible?

  • Active Directory problems while trying to perfom compare operation

    - by Alex
I have CentOs 5.5 with Apache 2.2 and SVN installed. Also I have Windows 2003 R2 with Active Directory. I'm trying to authorize users via AD so each user have access to repo if he is a member of corespondent group in AD. Here is my apache config: LoadModule dav_svn_module modules/mod_dav_svn.so LoadModule authz_svn_module modules/mod_authz_svn.so LDAPVerifyServerCert off ServerName svn.mydomain.com DocumentRoot /var/www/svn.mydomain.com/htdocs RewriteEngine On [Location /] AuthType basic AuthBasicProvider ldap AuthzLDAPAuthoritative on AuthLDAPURL ldaps://comp1.mydomain.com:636/DC=mydomain,DC=com?sAMAccountName?sub?(objectClass=*) AuthLDAPBindDN [email protected] AuthLDAPBindPassword binduserpassword [/Location] [Location /repos/test] DAV svn SVNPath /var/svn/repos/test AuthName "SVN repository for test" Require ldap-group CN=test,CN=ProjectGroups,DC=mydomain,DC=com [/Location] When I'm using "Require valid-user" everything goes fine, "Require ldap-user" also works. But as soon as I use "Require ldap-group" authorization fails. Trere are no errors in apache logs, but Active Directory shows folowing error: Event Type: Information Event Source: NTDS LDAP Event Category: LDAP Interface Event ID: 1138 Date: 10/9/2010 Time: 1:28:52 PM User: MYDOMAIN\binduser Computer: COMP1 Description: Internal event: Function ldap_compare entered. Additional Data Error value: 2 0000208D: NameErr: DSID-031001CD, problem 2001 (NO_OBJECT), data 0, best match of: 'DC=mydomain,DC=com' I'm confused by this problem. What I'm doing wrong?

  • Managing SharePoint permissions via Active Directory?

    - by rgmatthes
My company has thousands of employees organized thoroughly via Active Directory. I have confidence in the accuracy of the Department and Title information displayed in the user profiles. I'm helping to put up a brand new SharePoint 2007 site, and I contacted IT about managing the site's permissions through AD Groups. The goal is to have the site automatically assign read/write/contribute/whatever permissions based on the information in AD. For example, we could create an AD Group called "Managers" that would contain anyone with the "Manager" title in their AD user profile. I would have SharePoint tap into this AD Group to mass assign permissions if I knew all managers would need a certain level of access (read/write/contribute/whatever). Then if a manager joins the company or leaves it, the group is automatically updated (provided AD gets updated, of course). My IT rep called back and said it couldn't be done. This seems like a pretty straightforward business requirement, and one of the huge benefits of having Active Directory, but maybe I'm mistaken. Could anyone shed some light on this? A) Is it possible to use dynamically-updated AD Groups when assigning permissions via SharePoint? (Does anyone know of a guide I could show my doubtful IT rep?) B) Is there a "best practice" way to go about this? I've read some debate on whether SharePoint Groups or AD Groups are the way to go. My main concern is dynamic updating. C) If this isn't available out of the box, can someone recommend third-party software that will provide the functionality I'm looking for? A big thanks to anyone who can help me out!!

  • Active Directory server down, recovering without reinstalling

    - by whatever
My Windows 2003 server suddenly ceased to function as a DC (this server is the only DC of the domain). All AD related services are down. The only way I can login to the AD is physically to the machine. Everytime I access an AD-related service (e.g. "AD users and computers") I get the below error: Naming information cannot be located because: The specified directory service attribute or value does not exist. Contact your system administrator to verify that your domain is properly configured and is currently online. I found the below system event which matches the time when the issue started, this re-occurs everytime I reboot the server. NTDS General | Global Catalog | Active Directory was unable to establish a connection with the global catalog. Additional Data Error value: 1355 The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted. Internal ID: 3200d33 I started the troubleshooting with DNS. Netdiag throws the below error although I think this is simply a consequence of not being able to access the Global Catalog. The procedure entry point DnsGetPrimaryDomainName_UTF8 could not be located in the dynamic link library DNSAPI.dll. Anyway DNS seems OK because I can ping the DC FQDN from the DC itself. I found the below solution which is supposed to help by doing some cleanup of the metadata: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/216498 If I follow procedure 1 here is what I get at step 9: no current site Domain - DC=<mydomain>,DC=<com> no current server no current naming context I can continue the procedure until step 14. I haven't tested step 15 as my understanding is that I will have to reinstall the whole AD again. Is there any way I can recover my AD from there without having to reinstall the whole thing? Update: Yes, the server was powered off/on because reboot would take forever (not because I thought power cycling the unit would fix it more than a reboot).

  • cd (change directory) to my home directory on Windows [closed]

    - by deostroll
Possible Duplicate: Is there a short cut command in Windows command prompt to get to the current users home directory like there is in Linux? Any short way to cd to the user specific directories in the command prompt. Like for e.g. in linux shell (debian based) we do a cd ~ and it instantly takes to the current logged user's directory /home/<username>. Anything to this effect on windows? ps: currently trying to do this on xp machines. If it differs for other machines, mention that too.

  • Trying to install realtek drivers for ASUS USB-N13, encountering "Compile make driver error: 2"

I'm trying to put an ASUS USB-N13 wireless adapter in my desktop running Ubuntu 12.04. The details of my problem are identical to the one described in this question: Connecting Asus USB-N13 Wireless Adapter. As such, I'm running through the exact steps laid out in the top-rated answer to that question. All was going well until I get to building the drivers. sudo bash install.sh produces the following output: ################################################## Realtek Wi-Fi driver Auto installation • Apple Airport Express, Extreme and Time Capsules, BT Home Hub, Wireless Extenders confusion

    - by Jamie Hartnoll
I post quite frequently in Stack Overflow, but use Superuser less frequently. Mainly as I don't change hardware often and rarely have software issues! I live in a small stone cottage, and have an office in a separate building across a yard. I have a BT Homehub which is located in the cottage and a series of Ethernet cables running across the yard to the office. This is fine for my wired stuff. My main office computers are PCs running Windows 7 Ultimate, and one on Win7 Home, all working fine. I also have an old laptop on Win XP which works fine wirelessly in the house for those evenings in front of the TV catching up on a bit of work. I also have an iPhone and an iPad. Recently, I have been trying to get WiFi in the office so I can use Adobe Shadow (or whatever it now is!) to improve mobile web development efficiency using my iPhone and iPad, so I bought this: http://www.ebuyer.com/393462-zyxel-wre2205-500mbps-powerline-wireless-n300-range-extender-wre2205-gb0101f Thinking that would be lovely just plugged into the socket by the door in the office, extending the perimeter of the WiFi from my Homehub. I can't get it to work properly! If I plug a laptop into its ethernet port I can get it to connect to the Homehub and give me a kinda of wired, wireless extender. If, however, I plug the ethernet port into my home hub, it then seems to extend the network, but only my iOs devices work, and all my wired stuff stops working, and seems to create an infinite loop where windows connects to my homehob, and then rather to the internet, it then connects back to the extender thing. Anyway... in the meantime, I took a fatal trip to the Apple Store, where I purchased an Airport Express... solely for the purpose of hooking my iOs devices up as wireless music players in the house. I knew it had WiFi, but didn't want to use that part as an extender, I didn't think it would work on a Homehub anyway. It doesn't work on a Homehub! I now have a new wireless network in the house, which, when anything connects to it cannot connect to the Internet, so it works ONLY as a wireless music player. I then borrowed some Powerline Adaptors from someone and realised that this whole thing was getting totally out of control! It seems all the technology is out there but it's so complicated to get the right series of devices. To further add to the confusion, I wouldn't mind a network hard drive. I bought one that broke and lost everything, so now we're on to looking at the Apple Time Capsules. So my question is... IF... I buy an Apple Time Capsule, can I: Hook that up to my Homehub, leaving the homehub connected to the Internet so my Hub phones still work, then disable wireless on the homehub Link up my Airport Express to the Time Capsule PROPERLY so it will connect to the Internet Do the above with an Apple TV box should I buy one in future Use the Time Capsule as a network hard drive to store video and music that can be viewed/listened to via my iOS devices/Apple TV/Aiport Express anywhere even with my main PC off (this currently stores all this data) Hope that the IOS devices like the WiFi from the TimeCapsule better than the Homehub and work without extension, or buy another Airport Express to get WiFI in the office. Or... should I buy an Airport Extreme and use a USB hard drive for the network drive?

  • Built-in card-reader doesn't work. HP Compaq nx6325 notebook

    - by user10940
I have a HP-Compaq nx6325 notebook with an built-in card-reader (SD, MS/Pro, MMC, SM, XD) and the ubuntu (10.10.) don't see it. I've tried to install it manually, with this steps (and with this tifmxx driver), but doesn't work. The compile log: $ echo /home/tvera/downloads/cr_install /home/tvera/downloads/cr_install $ make -C /lib/modules/2.6.35-25-generic/build M=/home/tvera/downloads/cr_install make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.35-25-generic' CC [M] /home/tvera/downloads/cr_install/tifm_core.o In file included from /home/tvera/downloads/cr_install/tifm_core.c:12: /home/tvera/downloads/cr_install/linux/tifm.h:128: error: field ‘cdev’ has incomplete type /home/tvera/downloads/cr_install/tifm_core.c: In function ‘tifm_uevent’: /home/tvera/downloads/cr_install/tifm_core.c:69: warning: passing argument 1 of ‘add_uevent_var’ from incompatible pointer type include/linux/kobject.h:244: note: expected ‘struct kobj_uevent_env *’ but argument is of type ‘char **’ /home/tvera/downloads/cr_install/tifm_core.c:69: warning: passing argument 2 of ‘add_uevent_var’ makes pointer from integer without a cast include/linux/kobject.h:244: note: expected ‘const char *’ but argument is of type ‘int’ /home/tvera/downloads/cr_install/tifm_core.c: At top level: /home/tvera/downloads/cr_install/tifm_core.c:161: warning: initialization from incompatible pointer type /home/tvera/downloads/cr_install/tifm_core.c: In function ‘tifm_free’: /home/tvera/downloads/cr_install/tifm_core.c:170: warning: type defaults to ‘int’ in declaration of ‘__mptr’ /home/tvera/downloads/cr_install/tifm_core.c:170: warning: initialization from incompatible pointer type /home/tvera/downloads/cr_install/tifm_core.c: At top level: /home/tvera/downloads/cr_install/tifm_core.c:177: error: unknown field ‘release’ specified in initializer /home/tvera/downloads/cr_install/tifm_core.c:178: warning: initialization from incompatible pointer type /home/tvera/downloads/cr_install/tifm_core.c: In function ‘tifm_alloc_adapter’: /home/tvera/downloads/cr_install/tifm_core.c:190: error: implicit declaration of function ‘class_device_initialize’ /home/tvera/downloads/cr_install/tifm_core.c: In function ‘tifm_add_adapter’: /home/tvera/downloads/cr_install/tifm_core.c:211: error: ‘BUS_ID_SIZE’ undeclared (first use in this function) /home/tvera/downloads/cr_install/tifm_core.c:211: error: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once /home/tvera/downloads/cr_install/tifm_core.c:211: error: for each function it appears in.) /home/tvera/downloads/cr_install/tifm_core.c:212: error: implicit declaration of function ‘class_device_add’ /home/tvera/downloads/cr_install/tifm_core.c: In function ‘tifm_remove_adapter’: /home/tvera/downloads/cr_install/tifm_core.c:237: error: implicit declaration of function ‘class_device_del’ /home/tvera/downloads/cr_install/tifm_core.c: In function ‘tifm_free_adapter’: /home/tvera/downloads/cr_install/tifm_core.c:243: error: implicit declaration of function ‘class_device_put’ /home/tvera/downloads/cr_install/tifm_core.c: In function ‘tifm_alloc_device’: /home/tvera/downloads/cr_install/tifm_core.c:275: error: ‘struct device’ has no member named ‘bus_id’ /home/tvera/downloads/cr_install/tifm_core.c:275: error: ‘BUS_ID_SIZE’ undeclared (first use in this function) make[2]: *** [/home/tvera/downloads/cr_install/tifm_core.o] Error 1 make[1]: *** [_module_/home/tvera/downloads/cr_install] Error 2 make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.35-25-generic' make: *** [all] Error 2 The output of lsusb: Bus 001 Device 005: ID 05e3:0702 Genesys Logic, Inc. • Choice of an OS for a home ZFS NAS

    - by OlafM
I am preparing a home NAS with an old Athlon 64 X2 3800+, 4 GB ECC RAM, Asus M2V MX motherboard, and a single 3 TB WDC Green (another one as mirror may be installed in the future). It's the cheapest solution I found that includes ECC memory and the higher energy consumption is offset by the lower (zero) cost of acquisition. The system will be used for: music storage and stream to other desktop computers; storage of the scanned dia slides (3-4k slides, 180 MB TIFF each one plus reduced quality JPEG version); stream of these photos to a local iPad 2 (maybe Plex App? not yet sure); (one additional) remote backup via rsync/ssh or ZFS send/receive. It will be controlled via remote ssh, maybe VNC, no monitor attached. Absolute requirement is a reliable ZFS solution, plus the ability to easily install packets/software/virtual machines and to update remotely (I will be the admin and I don't live near the NAS). I have mainly three options: NAS4free/FreeNAS OpenIndiana Solaris Express 11 (yeah yeah I know the license requirements, I will write a perl script on it to count it as development machine). Problems: NAS4free/FreeNAS (I tested only NAS4free) required embedded installation for remote upgrading, but full install for easy addition of software packets. Since I need at least AirVideo Server (linux/win) and Plex App (win/linux) to stream the photos and some videos to iPad (they both require virtualbox), but I cannot be there to install updates, NAS4free/FreeNAS are excluded. http://www.nas4free.org/general_information.html explains the issue: embedded can be remotely updated, full cannot. Solaris has also another advantage: Crashplan client supports Solaris and I'm already using it for other backups. I would like to leave the option open, even if I will be doing backups probably through zfs send/receive. NexentaStor was left out because zfs send/receive are not included in the free version. The question is now Solaris 11 Express over OpenIndiana. To ease the management, I will be using http://www.napp-it.org Which one would you suggest and why? I found lots of informations and it's difficult for me to decide. I think (from the napp-it manual) that Solaris has some additional options for SMB shares, but are they really needed at home? I think I won't even use ACLs, since normal unix-style permissions are enough. OpenIndiana has maybe more frequent updates (Solaris offers only security updates between releases), but again, do I need them? I don't think so. Moreover, this is a NAS that has to work and nothing else, I cannot risk having problems that require me to access the server. Isn't OpenIndiana a bit more... cutting edge (in the Solaris world)? I'm just asking, no need to focus on this for the answer :-) I would limit myself to these two options (SE11.1/OI) also because I will be making a NAS for me in the future (where high performances with Mac shares are also required) and Solaris has kernel support for AFP. I will use this server to gather experience as well. After this long question, thanks in advance! If you need additional info, let me know and I will update this post.

  • low-cost RAID NAS for home use?

    - by gravyface
Have a noisy, power-hungry Pentium 4 based Ubuntu server that I want to replace with a nice, low-power mini-ITX/Intel Atom-based machine to do my network services (DHCP, DNS, IPSec, Web/mail, FTP, etc.) and am thinking of a (hopefully) equally-low powered NAS using NFS over GbE with at least 1 TB space and a RAID 5 (preferred) or RAID 0 (likely) configuration for redundancy with a couple of spare disks I can swap in as needed down the road. Would I be better off getting a full sized ATX mobo/case and configuring the RAID internally? I really want to keep power consumption down as much as possible as I leave my home server up 24/7.

  • how do I get vim home directory?

    - by nsharish
I wanted to set VIMHOME variable this way(common to windows and linux), let $VIMHOME=expand("%:p")."/..", so that VIMHOME is "~/.vim" in linux or "path/to/vimfiles" in windows. I put this in a var.vim file and placed this in the plugin directory. It loads properly, but VIMHOME is set only to "./..". How do I get the full path of a file using expand? Is there an easy way to set VIMHOME?

  • Home networking - Wireless switch?

    - by gamers2000
I currently have a Linksys WRT160N that has a couple wireless clients and a few wired clients. We are planning to switch from DSL to cable and unfortunately, there isn't a cable point in a location close to the wired clients (i.e. the new location of the router would be too far from the wired clients to lay Ethernet cables). Thus, I was wondering if there was a wireless switch of some sort in which it would be a standard Ethernet switch that would connect to my wireless network? (This is a home network,of course.)

  • Host name resolution on a home network

    - by Kris
Hi, I have several machines (both virtual and physical) in my internal network at home. Currently I have to connect via 1P addresses. The one main machine I connect with to all the other machines is running Windows Vista. Is there a way I can have some sort of DNS capability inside my network as well so I can refer to these machines with a name? I think this would be a common problem in most households (running a few computers) and I think there might be some simple solutions out there. This would be something most routers should support out of the box - but why don't they? Can anyone recommend some of these or an easy way to accomplish this?

  • Configuring home wireless network

    - by dvanaria
I'm new to setting up a home wireless network. I have Comcast tv/internet/phone service (modem included) as well as a wireless router. My question is pretty basic. How can I tell the performance of the following parts of the network? 1. incoming internet speed 2. speed of the modem 3. speed of the wireless router I basically want as fast an internet connection as possible, of course, but I'm not sure where to look for the bottleneck (and so, not sure where I can spend some money to speed things up). Right now I'm getting about 36 Mbps (as it shows in Windows). If I run an online speed test (xfinity has one) it shows Average download speed of 14.91 Mbps and Average upload speed of 5.72 Mbps. Thanks for your help.

  • How do I increase my home's bandwidth?

    - by Derek
I just mistakingly posted this on Stack Exchange but don't know how to delete it... Anyway, I was thinking of building a home server to use instead of renting a VPS, because in the long run it would be cheaper. What I'm concerned with is the bandwidth limit of my house. I know when I'm downloading something off the internet, if I download at high speeds the rest of the computers connected to my router will become slower. Is there any way to avoid this? There are other cable outlets in my house, will connecting a modem and router there avoid this problem?

  • Windows Vista home premium upgrade to Windows 7 ultimate

    - by chugh97
I have 2 laptops with Vista Home Premium editions. I bought the upgrade license from MS, to upgrade one of my laptops. I have upgraded one of the laptops fine. Now the question is, If I want to upgrade the second laptop but uninstall the windows 7 on the first one, would this be possible. I am only wanting to swap the OS onto the other laptop as the other one is faster. Is this possible? and if so how can it be done?

  • User's home drive permissions don't contain system or administrators on Windows Server 2008 R2

    - by JohnyV
I have a user whose home drive has only that user in the permissions. No administrators, etc. I have tried to take ownership as a local administrator however I cant seem to apply settings to the child objects -- it still gives me a permission denied error. I know there are some handy CLI utils that can redo permissions. Any ideas? Or even a way to do it through Windows? The file server is a 2008 R2 server.
