• Throttle network bandwidth per application in Mac OS X

  I notice that iTunes seems to suck up all my bandwidth and doesn’t play nice with other applications that use the web when it's downloading. In fact, it doesn't even give itself enough bandwidth when browsing the iTunes Store while downloading large or many files (podcasts, TV shows, large apps, etc). I'm not concerned with getting all my downloads as soon as possible, they're really low priority, and I'd rather not have to do this while I'm awake, but I can't hit the refresh button if I'm in bed and forgot it already. Is there an application or tool via the Terminal to limit the download bandwidth that iTunes gets without also hindering web browsers or other applications? FOSS/GPL software is preferable, but pay software might be acceptable too.

• Windows Vista Update Now Wont Boot Up

  My friend just updated her Windows Vista to service pack 1, or tried to. Now it wont boot up. Just black screen, some errors etc. I tried googling it and lots of people had this problem it seems. Anyone find a fix for it? I read somewhere I believe that Microsoft said to delete some files, Nvidia maybe? But I can not find that again, I forgot the exact error code I searched for before. Does anyone know what I am talking about? LOL Thanks guys.

Anyone find a fix for it? I read somewhere I believe that Microsoft said to delete some files, Nvidia maybe? But I can not find that again, I forgot the exact error code I searched for before. • Coldfusion 8 crash

  I have a very big problem with coldfusion 8 on Windows server 2008 with IIS7. They are in production server and sometimes the the site is not available, I have to manually end the jrun.exe process from task manager and then the site is available. I realize that the process jrun.exe has abut 1.3Gb of memory used at the time it crash's. It happens 2-3 times a day, I have looking in the coldfusion logs and I did not found anything strange beside some warnings that some job exceeded the 300 sec of time execution. I forgot to mention that coldfusion is a 32bit application but the windows is a 64bit, this may be the problem? I'm not such good in coldfusion, so If someone knows how to troubleshoot please let me know Thanks!

• Squid traffic tunneled through VPN

  So what I'm trying to do is have a Squid Proxy run on 1 machine along side a VPN connection. What I want to happen is all traffic running though the Squad Proxy would run though the VPN for its outbound. ie Desktop - (Squid Proxy - VPN) The goal is to allow my desktop selective tunneling through the VPN. So that Instant Messaging and the like that do not need to run through the VPN can go through my normal traffic. Typically I would go though a SSH Proxy but currently am forced to use VPN to gain entry into the office, and a Squid proxy seemed like it might work out the easiest for what I am needing. EDIT Realize I forgot to actually state what problem I'm running into. I have the Squid setup and verified it works, but once I connect to the VPN. All requests to Squid get accepted but Squid is unable to make the request over the VPN. So the client ends up just sitting there.

• AWS VPN Tunnel going down without traffic

  I managed to setup a site-to-site VPN connection from Amazon VPC to a company's network, and after a lot of configuration it was working fine, but now i realized that the VPN tunnel is DOWN every time there's no traffic going trough for a couple minutes. The only way that i have found to generate traffic is to reach the amazon instance from the company's network and then the tunnel goes up again. I had a cronjob doing ping every minute, but i think it should have a keepalive option somewhere, or at least a log file of the tunnels to find out what's going on. Any ideas to keep the tunnel up and/or bring it up from amazon? The firewall is a Checkpoint R75.20, it only allows one tunnel at a time for the same subnet, so i cant have both tunnels active. Thank you, any questions just ask. EDIT I forgot to add, the ping keepalive was working great (maybe generating a bit of traffic, but nothing to worry about), the connection dropped because i had to restart the instance, and it that little time it dropped me.

  My physical PC is running 2 VMs on virtualbox. Both of the VM's are linux 64 bit. Don’t forget to give it a look. I agree with Mike because after I looked into the /etc/hosts files, it has just default localhost stuff in it. How should I reconfigure the hosts file?

• How can I get data off of a Corsair SSD?

  My Corsair SSD won't work and I have some critical data on it that I didn't back up (I needed to create a copy of my mechanical storage device, just forgot). The drive isn't detected by the OS or BIOS. I also tried it on another system, but all that happened was the OS failed to load (my guess was that it knew the drive was there, just couldn't read it). I tried powering it on without the data cable for a bit of time to see if it'd work again, but it didn't. Any ideas of how I can get the data off of this drive without having to send it in?

  Hi, I had a win xp with an NTFS partion for programs (c:) and I installed ubuntu 10.10 on it. I will use ubuntu from now on. On the disk there was a space for the NTFS partition and free space. I created in the free space a new linux partition. So the new linux partition is a ext3. now from ubuntu I used the disk utility and saw that the windows is marked as free space. I had only one possibility, which is to create a partition, so I did as NTFS. I did NOT format it. I don't care about the windows system, I just need to access the program files folder on that partition and get my chrome bookmarks. I forgot to save them before the installation of linux. do you think it is possible? if so how? thanks.

The problem is that it isn't using DHCP addressing and I can't just use the default ip address of 192.168.1.1. I have to use the ip address it was set at before it got bricked. The problem is I forgot what that number was. Is there some program or script that can find it out?

• How to brute force keepass with certain letters and characters

  I forgot my password to keepass but I know pretty much what letters and the order they go in, but I'm not sure if I put anything before or after my "main" password or capitalized anything. I tried every combo I could think of but I still can't get in (invalid/wrong key error). I also enabled use master password and key file(on my flash drive). My question is is there a way to brute force keepass with only certain letters and characters in order? An example of the password would be userab12c3d45 sometimes with quotes or underscores at the beginning and end. Or Is there a word list generator that will do this?

I write net share MyCompany_server___0.0.1-SNAPSHOT___server=E:\JavaWorkspace\Product\src\generated\server Then, this share is visible by other Windows machine in network shares of my machine, but not be accessed. Is there an option I forgot to set ? EDITED due to comment Accessing the share using an OpenSUSE machine brings the "The folder contents could not be displayed." message. Accessing the share using the Windows machine sharing that folder succeeds without any issue Accessing the share using another Windows machine displays MyCompany_server_0.0.1-SNAPSHOT_server is not accessible. • excel 2010 format and input issue

  I have completed a very complex Excel spreadsheet with a lot of equations, except ... I forgot to include September I have Jan through Dec, all the months, except the calculations for September. Of course all the equations are currently perfect for the data that's here. How do I add a whole new column without ruining the previous equations?   I've created a GRE tunnel between LAN A and LAN B. LAN A is behind a router, and LAN B is behind a Linux box and this box has a pppoe interface. When i do tcpdump on Linux box i see that the traffic is routerd to Linux box (tunnel end), so my need is routing the tunnel traffic to internet. • Windows 8 doesn't play nice when dual booting with Windows 7?

  I have Windows 7, and Windows 8 on my laptop. I have Windows 7 set as my default, and it asks me each time if I want to boot with 7 or 8. When I boot with Windows 8, then restart my computer, it opens up to the Windows 8 boot screen, and sets Windows 8 as my default. How can I stop it from changing my default because it's a hassle to change it each time I want to use Windows 8. EDIT: I forgot to mention that in only happens sometimes. It usually doesn't change it when I restart, but it sometimes changes it when I completely shut it off.

• Linux - Debian - Original groups that a user is in

  This is embarrassing; I used the usermod command to add myself to the disk group. However I forgot to use the append option! so I'm not a member of any of the groups that I was originally, now terminal says that I'm not even a sudoer (How rude!). So the question is: What are the original groups that a normal Administrator type of user is in? BTW, I am using Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE). Any help is appreciated.

• Can my email address be revoked? [closed]

  I did some work with an organization and had a falling out, so I left them. They used postfix to have [email protected], and I had one. I set up gmail to get my mail via POP as well as to "send mail as @_.com". I think for a long time they forgot to delete my email address and now it seems that I can send but not receive mail at the address. What could a possible explanation for this be? Can they revoke delivery but not sending from the address? Why would they only revoke one if they cna revoke both? Is it more tedious or difficult a task to revoke sending? Thanks

• Excel: ROUND & MOD giving me strange DATE results

  This is sort of related to a previous question. My formula, which seemed to work fine yesterday now gives strange results. Today is the 30th of March (30/03/10). It's 10:11am on the clock that the computer is using for the time stamp in the NOW() part of my worksheet. Below is the formula and a screen shot of the results/columns. QUESTION: Why ddoes it show 1/2 day, and also where does 23 1/2 come from? The NOW() is in a hidden column (F2)...which I forgot to unhide before I took the screen shot. =IF(ISBLANK(I2),ROUND(MOD(H2-F2,24),2),ROUND(MOD(I2-F2,24),2)) Thanks Mike

• Windows 7 backup network restore: "The network location cannot be reached, 0x800704CF"

  When I try to restore from a backup image, I get this error. After I enter the network address (\\10.0.0.1\backup or \\z\backup), the wizard presents me with the network login dialog, which leads me to believe that it can connect to the network (yes, the share is password protected). I decided to install Windows 7, since I thought that I could restore the image from Windows. The restore process in Windows can locate the backups, but to do an image restore it needs to reboot to the wizard above. Which of course gives the very same error. This is what \\z\backup looks like. Please help, I'm getting desperate. Update: Forgot to mention that the NAS is running Ubuntu, if that's relevant.

  I'm trying to move ibdata & ib_logfile on ssd drive. Also I setup mysql apparmor so it can rw on this directory, and rebooted afterward: /usr/sbin/mysqld { ................. /ssd_drive/mysql/* rw, ................. }

• wget not converting links

  I am trying to mirror a fairly large site (20,000+ pages) prior to a major overhaul. Basically, I need a backup before cutting over to the new one in case we forgot something we need (we'll have about 1,000 pages at launch). The site is run on a CMS that I cannot easily extract usable data from, so I'm trying to make the copy with wget. My problem is that wget does not appear to be actually converting links, despite the presence of --convert-links or -k in the command. I've tried a couple of different combinations of flags, but I haven't been able to get the output I need. Most recent failed attempt was: nohup wget --mirror -k -l10 -PafscSnapshot --html-extension -R *calendar* -o wget.log http://www.example.org & I've also included the --backup-converted, and --convert-links instead of -k (not that it have mattered). I've done it with and without -P and -l, again no that they should matter. Results in files that still have links like: http://www.example.org//ht/d/sp/i/17770

Features it needs to have: should NOT display the keyboard layout on the screen! should give detailed statistics which actually measure progress (for which key do I have the highest error rate, graphs showing how typing speed improved over time, etc) should enable me to actually learn touch-typing in about one long weekend were I don't do much else than learning to touch-type. it would be very good if it were possible to load a text-file and the program will use words from the text-file for the exercises as well My goals are: at least same typing speed as I have now but which touch-typing, want to be able to look at the screen only when typing P.S.: EDIT: I forgot to mention, I'm using Win 7.   I have worked a few different places, each one with a different solution, so I would like to hear your suggestions and ideas. I am looking at a situation with multiple server-rooms. We have a mixture of copper (both ethernet and telephone), multi-mode fibre and single-mode fibre. We have all types of connectors: RJ-11, RJ-45, LC, SC, FC, SMA and several I probably forgot about. We have a lot of people working in the area, and keeping track of cables is turning into a full time job. So, here are a the questions: What types and lengths of cable do you keep in stock on site? Do you make your own or buy pre-made? Adapters? Dampeners? How do you manage cable inventory? How do you label the cables? Any other tricks to stop this from driving me crazy?

• Report Builder 2.0 - Creating DataSet - User Not Authorized

  Hello, we are currently using SQL Server Reporting Services and we would like to use Report Builder so our customers can create reports themselves. I have created a User on the server. I have added this user to the SQLServerMSSQLUser and SQLServerReportServerUser groups. I have given this User db_datareader access to the required database and to the Reporting Services database. I've also tried giving the User db_owner access to the Reporting Services db's. And on the Report Manager, this User is a System_User, but has all access (every checkbox is checked). When I connect using Report Builder, I can select the Report Model to create a DataSource, but when I try to create a DataSet, I get the following error: An error occurred while connection to datasource 'DataSource1'. The details are: 'User Not Authorized'. Does anyone know what server permissions I forgot to set? I'm assuming it's a Windows permissions issue because I do not see any database login errors in the event logs.
