  • Netbeans: Install/Activate/Uninstall/Deactivate plugins buttons disabled

    I recently installed Netbeans 6.9 on a new computer. I went to install the NB Android plugin, which I have on another computer, but I found most of the functionality of the plugins window disabled. The install, uninstall, activate, and deactivate buttons are grayed out. I have included images at the bottom. This hasn't happened to me before, and searching Google hasn't turned up anything useful. I thought it might have been a permission problem so I tried running Netbeans with gksudo but that didn't help. I also thought it might have been something wonky with the Ubuntu Software Center install, so I uninstalled that one, and downloaded Netbeans from the main site and I installed it in my home directory, but it does the same thing. I'm running Xubuntu 10.10 and Netbeans 6.9.1 Available Plugins Tab It won't let me add more than one hyperlink due to a lack of reputation. Installed Tab - http + i.imgur.com/Nhqi4.png

  • Allowing non-admins to run programs as admins on Windows 7

    On *nix, admins can use the setuid flag to allow non-admins to run certain programs that would otherwise require admin privileges. Is there any way to do something similar in Windows 7? This question has been asked here before for Windows XP, and the answers were generally unsatisfying. I'm wondering if Windows 7 provides a better way. One idea I can think of would be to use Microsoft's Subsystem for UNIX Applications, but I'd rather not install that on every user's system if I can avoid it. Another idea I can think of (which would work on XP too, but I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere) would be to create a RunAsAdmin application that runs as a service, that takes a whitelist of "safe" apps and can be asked (from a command line, batch file or script) to run any program on the list as LocalSystem or whatever account the service uses. Is this possible? Are there any solutions that aren't as clunky as those? Or, has anyone implemented either of the above techniques successfully?

  • Virtualmin: Automatically create SSL based website with a shared SSL wildcard cert?

    I managed to configure this very nicely under cPanel/WHM, but I am having trouble configuring it under Virtualmin: when I create a new Virtual Server in Virtualmin, I want it to automatically create an Apache with a subdomain of a shared wildcard SSL domain. So for example, if I create a virtual server for some.example.com, I want two VirtualHosts: <VirtualHost 1.2.3.4:80> ServerName some.example.com ServerAlias www.some.example.com some_example.shared-ssl-domain.com ... </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost 1.2.3.4:443> ServerName some_example.shared-ssl-domain.com ...   • Why did my zpool replace never finish and what should I do now?

    I have a ZFS zpool with two disks in a mirror configuration, da0 and da1. da1 failed, and so I replaced it with da2 using zpool replace BearCow da1 da2 This ran for a few hours, during which zpool status showed that the array was being resilvered. When that finished, zpool status showed that the resilver was completed, but the array was still degraded...   • ISPs with good upload speeds? [closed]

    I am a web developer, and I spend most of my time not waiting for downloads but waiting for my latest build of a website to publish to a test site. I use the excellent BeyondCompare to ensure I only upload what I need to upload. But still, if a 2MB C# DLL has changed, so be it. And I must wait. At work we host our own servers and have a dedicated line, so for 8.5 hours of my day I have blistering upload speeds across the web, which is nice. At home however, it's a different story. I am with Virgin Media on their XL internet package (I think). I think that means I get 256Kb upload and 20Mb download. So I have began to wonder - are there any ISPs in the UK with good upload speeds? If you know of any for other countries, do post for other's sake, but please specify which country your post is relevant to.

  • How can I boot directly to a VirtualBox (.vdi) image (possibly via hypervisor)?

    I have a system image in VirtualBox as a .vdi file. I am aware of how to convert this to other formats of VM using VBoxManage. I'd like to boot this image locally on a number of clients which currently have no OS installed. What's the simplest way to boot into this VM from bare metal? I'm willing to install some minimal OS if necessary. Is this even possible? Maybe there's something out there along the lines of VDI Blaster that will load a locally stored VM?

  • apache requests failing

    I'm trying to figure out why sometimes the client fails to load objects/requests from a dynamic page served from Apache/MySql/Debian machine. Let's say 13 objects are to be loaded for a total of 185.3 KB load, with no external objects (no DNS lookups) and no other traffic at the same time, randomly some of those object do not load. However, if I perform a refresh, sometimes all of them load or some might fail again. I only have 1Mbps/up and my DNS is been hosted externally (everydns). What could be the reason of this issue? Any comments will be appreciated.

  • Random Computer Crashes

    Ok, here's a wierd one for you all. Occasionally my PC here at work will crash in a very peculiar way. My dual monitors will suddenly go blank as if there is no longer a video signal, the USB mouse light will go dark and mouse stays unresponsive, the keyboard lights will not change status when the appropriate keys are pressed (Num/Caps/Scoll Lock). The CD Tray WILL open and close. But the computer will not respond to a ping request. For all intents & purposes it's as if the computer is off, except it wasn't intentional by me. The power light and internal fans are still on and I've now lost any unsaved work. Now here's where it gets wierd. This PC is part of a batch of PC's we got from a local vendor who does our initial system builds. Mine, and 6 other co-workers PCs all have the same issue. Originally we thought it was a bad combination of hardware, but through trial and error the only thing we haven't eliminated are the OS, Mobo & CPU. The problem was so bad for some of them that they ended up going back to their 5 year old dinosaurs in order to get some work done, for me the problem isn't as bad, maybe once every other day or so, but still enough to bite me in the ass if I've forgotten my ritualistic pressing of CTRL-S every 1-5 minutes. In this case we've tried two different video cards, two different power supplies, two different memory configurations, running on a UPS/not on UPS, updating/rolling back video drivers, three different bios revisions. The only things we haven't swapped are the mobo & cpu, mainly because a new mobo means a new Hardware Abstraction Layer, ie re-install of windows and there's alot of other software on this PC that takes forever to reload by hand. There was a base image that our systems team created with all the drivers installed and the basic setup of software our company uses, but they then must customize the setup for us programmers so it takes a while to get a new configuration up and going. I'm a programmer by day and am usually pretty good at diagnosing computer problems whether through trial and error or not. We've pretty much exhausted all the ideas we can think of here, short of a new mobo/cpu. Was hoping someone out there might have anything else we can try.. Relevant Parts: OS: XP Pro 32-bit Motherboard: Intel DG41RQ CPU: Intel Core-2 Quad Q9400 @ 2.66GHz Current BIOS Version/Date Intel Corp.   • Speakers will not work after I use USB Headset

    I am trying to configure my SteelSeries Siberia V2 Frost USB Headset to work with my 2.0 speakers using a jack. My goal is to find a easy way (no restart) to switch playback from my headset and my speakers and vice-versa. If i plug my headset in and make it the default device then restart my application/web page then the sounds works out of headset. If I switch the default to my speakers and restart apps/web pages then sound does not play. I know my speakers are on because if I configure them through windows and test, the sounds play, and sounds also play when I test it through my audio manager. Even if I unplug my headset, I still cannot get sound out of my speakers unless I restart My audio manager is RealTek HD Audio Manager, Windows 7 x64. I have tried the speaker back, usb front. speaker front, usb in front port. I have not tried speaker back, usb back.

  • Is SSL to the proxy good enough?

    We are currently trying to decide on how best to do SSL traffic in our environment. We have an externally facing Apache proxy server that is responsible for directing all traffic into our environment. It is also doing the SSL work for the majority of our servers. There are one or two IIS servers in particular that are doing their own SSL, but they are also behind the proxy. I'm wondering, is SSL to the proxy good enough? It would mean that traffic within our network is identifiable, but is that such a big deal?

  • What is preventing me from upgrading / installing Fixefox extensions?

    I am trying to install a Firefox extension into Firefox 3.6.13 under OS X 10.5.8, and I keep getting an error message: Firefox could not install the file at because: Download error -228 I have read this and found it unhelpful. My cache is 500 MB and ~/Library/Caches/TemporaryItems is writable: [jnet@Stan ~]$ ls -la ~/Library/Caches/TemporaryItems total 16 drwx------ 5 jnet jnet 170 Jan 27 20:51 . Any idea how I can correct this?

  • Linux - What do the common root folder names mean?

I noticed they all have similar folder names in the root directory bin boot dev etc home lib lost+found media mnt opt proc root sbin selinux srv sys tmp usr var I googled around, but couldn't find anywhere that explained the purpose of each of these. I understand a couple, but could anyone point me somewhere or give a quick breakdown of the common ones.

  • Having trouble keeping a 1GB RAM Centos server running

    This is my first time configuring a VPS server and I'm having a few issues. We're running Wordpress on a 1GB Centos server configured per the internet (online research). No custom queries or anything crazy but closing in on 8K posts. At arbitrary intervals, the server just goes down. From the client side, it just says "Loading..." and will spin more or less indefinitely. On the server side, the shell will lock completely. We have to do a hard reboot from the control panel and then everything is fine. Watching "top" I see it hovering between 35 - 55% memory usage generally and occasional spikes up to around 80%. When I saw it go down, there were about 30 - 40 Apache processes showing which pushed memory over the edge. "error_log" tells me that maxclients was reached right before each reboot instance. I've tried tinkering with that but to no avail. I think we'll probably need to bump the server up to the next RAM level but with ~120K pageviews per month, it seems like that's a bit overkill since it was running fairly well on a shared server before. Any ideas? httpd.conf and my.cnf values to add? I'll update this with the current ones if that helps. Thanks in advance!   • Internet Problem: Wireless connected but no connection to internet

    Hey i have a interesting network setup on a laptop here and for some reason the internet isnt working. I am connected to a secure network via wireless router and taskbar says i am connected and with good signal strength but in my internet browser i cant connect to any websites, the error is: This webpage is not available. (Chrome) I am using Chrome, but websites dont work on IE either. Heres a little background on the setup i have. I have a Ethernet connected to the laptop with a static ip, and then i have the wireless setup with DHCP enabled. I am using the ethernet to connect to the network (for remote desktop) but the wireless for internet (to avoid the network firewalls). this set up has worked fine for a few months, but i cant figure out what is going on now. Might be worth it to note it is a Lenovo Thinkpad and i just uninstalled ThinkVantage Access Connections (as it was giving me ample problems prior to this one, which i consider a step up) Tried repairing connection as well, let me know if you guys have any ideas please! EDIT: Solved-Dead Modem in the server room.... Sorry guys didn't have access to that myself

  • How to split audio into multiple channels from optical S/PDIF or 1/8"?

    I have a motherboard which has an optical S/PDIF output or 1/8". I'd like to "split" that signal into the appropriate channels so that I can then connect that to the wires behind my car's headunit which, in turn, run to the amp. The factory Bose amp just takes a single connector with a million wires running out of it, so that's why I would need to separate the signal into separate channels. On the other end there are four RCA connectors: front left, front right, rear left, rear right. The sub-woofer signal does not require an additional connection.   • Add Clamd as a service to CentOS?

    As I understand I think I need to add something to init.d, but I am not sure what to add. At the moment to start clamav I have to do clamd start. I would like it as a service so I can start it on run level 3 as a service. I realize I could probably do this through a shell script in the right runlevel, but I would like to be able to use chkconfig to configure it.

  • View Public Key in Domain Key for a Domain

    Using Jeff's blog post I'm creating domain keys for my account. I wanted to verify the setup using Get or Host command with Bind for Windows but I'm lost one of the commands. I can see view the _domainkey. txt file with this command: host -t txt _domainkey.stackoverflow.com but I'm at a loss at how I'd find the selector record. Jeff points out it can be anything before the before the period in "._domainkey.domain.com" but how would I list all records if I didn't know the exact query name? Is there a wildcard I could use to view all TXT or all records under this section?

  • Linux Mint Constantly freezing on Dell XPS L502X

    I recently partitioned my hard drive to dual boot the existing Windows 7 with Linux Mint because I am tired of using Windows, especially the lack of terminal. I want to eventually remove Windows 7 and just run it from a VM within Linux Mint, but I want to make sure that I like the Mint before going all in. I ran Linux Mint on a VM inside Windows for a while, enjoyed it, and never had any issues with it. Since installing on my hard drive it has started freezing every 5-10 minutes, and the only way to get it back is to either power down, or close the lid and reopen once it sleeps. I've also tried running Ubuntu on dual boot in the past, and while it never froze, the battery life was terrible, and the fan was constantly running. I'm experiencing the same battery/fan problem with Mint, which doesn't make sense to me, as Linux should be lighter on the CPU than windows. If I had to guess I'd say it's probably a driver thing, with my video card or fan or something. My battery life in Windows is ~2 hours and its about 40 minutes in Linux. At this point, that is even if my laptop doesn't freeze before then. On a less important note, I also have an intel Centrino 6150 WiMax card that I'd like to be able to use, but that won't register on the Linux system either. I have tried downloading drivers for both of these, but neither have solved my problems. I'm definitely getting frustrated and am getting close to giving up on Linux even though I dread working on a Windows machine.

  • Installed Bunch of New Fonts on Windows 7 - Now None Show Up and System Lags

    So I went to install about 5,000 fonts on my Windows 7 64-bit machine. It was slow to install them, and I had to leave. I came back and my PC was shut down, and I had to go through the Windows recovery BS when I powered it on. Now my computer runs EXTREMELY slow and any program that has a font menu locks up my whole machine (nothing in Microsoft Office works). When I go to "Fonts" in the control panel, it says 0 items. I went through all of the font settings trying to get them to appear. Nothing helps. I tried to bring up the Character Map and that froze up my machine too. How can I fix this? If I do not get this issue resolved soon, I am wiping this drive and going back to XP (and probably never purchasing another version of Windows again). I never had any issues with XP and have had nothing but performance problems when switching to Windows 7. My quad-core intel extreme with 8GB of RAM should never flinch with the kind of work that I do, and something simple like playing a song off an external HD takes up to five seconds on Windows 7. Unbelievable that I had to pay for this crap!

  • CHROOT for shell script testing

    I am looking at setting up a shell script in order to properly document and automate the process I am using to setup a few servers we have. In order to test the shell script through its different stages I was thinking a CHROOT would be ideal, since I can wipe out the "virtual root" and create it on the fly. I have never used CHROOT before, however. I was just curious what are the exact steps I would need to follow to implement this process of creating a chroot (with the basic core functions that would be needed to install apache/php/etc.)? and then destroying it?

  • Setting up Konico Minolta 1400w printer on windows vista 32bit

    One of my neighbors asked me to help them setup this old printer on their computer (thier other printer is broken) so after fighting with it for about an hour but to no avail. Every time I try to install it, windows just recognizes it a as "print to file printer" as in it will only print to an output file. It's kinda urgent so speedy help would be appreciated.
