• Netgear VPN can't access specific server

  I have a Netgear FVS318N configured with a VPN. I'm trying to access my call recorder with the provided software from another office. I've already setup the VPN connection, and it works. I can connect and ping the remote router and a few other things on the network. However, I can't ping or connect to my call recorder. If I move outside of the office network (i.e. connect directly to the cable modem or via a mobile hotspot), I can connect and ping the call recorder just fine. The office has a simple Linksys WRT54G router and is using AT&T Uverse. The remote location is using Charter Cable with a Netgear FVS318N. Has anyone ever encountered anything like this before? I've setup an identical VPN previously for a different client using similar hardware and never encountered this. Thanks in advance!

• unreachable subnet in one direction

  I'm unable to route traffic to a subnet in my home. Here's my topology: INET <- Router A <- Router B <- WIFI AP where: Router A - ARRIS TG862G/CT (from comcast) - WAN DHCP, LAN 10.0.0.99 Router B - Linksys WRT400N with DD-WRT - WAN 10.0.0.12 , LAN 10.0.1.1 I was able to use DD-WRT to configure a static route for the 10.0.1.x network back to the 10.0.0.x network. But I'm not sure if i can do the reverse on the ARRIS router and was looking for suggestions on how to fix that. I've set things up this wasy because I am using OpenDNS to mange internet content for my kids and of course I wasn't able to configure DNS to my liking on Router A either. So at present I'm using Router A on 10.0.0.x to provide a private unfiltered WIFI AP (no ssid broadcast) that I use for netflix only and then I use router B to provide a filtered WIFI AP for the rest of my WIFI devices on 10.0.1.x. However I would like to be able to connect to my 10.0.1.x devices from the internet via dynamic dns; but I can't see anything behind router B this way. Thoughts?

• Internet unusably slow with Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168B card

  So I have recently installed Ubuntu 11.10 for a dual boot with wind 7. After the install I had like 300 updates, so I installed them. At first I could use the internet, although it was extremely slow. However now I cannot, sometimes it will load and others it will simply time out. When I try to download something it will either take forever or will not at all. This is a wired system. On Windows side my speeds are fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also like I said I am new to Linux/Ubuntu so please be nice. One last thing, I also installed 11.10 for same dual boot on my laptop, and wireless speed is the same as on Windows? Only the wired desktop gives me the problem? Hear is some hardware info.. Hope it helps.   my goal is to set up a VPN on a Windows machine that contains my iTunes library then connect to that VPN with my iPhone and be able to utilize Home Sharing remotely. I have read that this can easily be set up if the iTunes library is on a Mac (Network Beacon and YazSoft ShareTool are two products I quickly found). I can't find anyone who has had success on a Windows machine, though. In my thinking, there are two options (aside from buying a Mac): 1.) Existing utility that takes care of this for me (like the Mac-only options listed above) and is compatible with iPhone (Hamachi is NOT compatible with iPhone VPN) 2.) Manually configure a VPN to allow Bonjour multicast (can't find any information on this) FYI my router is a Linksys WRT54GL running Tomato 1.28

• Can connect to WAN via PC but router doesnt.

  I have a very strange problem regarding the office network. We are currenltly in a executive suite and when i connect to wan via ethernet cable i get dhcp assigned IP address in my network config. I hooked up the linksys router to the wall expecting it to receive all the necessary ip info but that didnt work. So we have been assigned static ip address to put in to our router later but even with the static ip router doesnt seem to connect to internet. But using the same ip address and assigning to laptop works. I m very puzzled what might be the cause of this so any help is really appreciated.

I currently have a Linksys wireless router set up in bridge mode, but its signal doesn't span the whole area. I have purchased an Asus RT-N66U to replace it, but I can't figure out how to set it up in bridge mode. Does anyone know if this is possible? Second question: Would there be any advantage in installing DD-WRT on the Asus?

She claims that she didn't have any issues for months with everything working together, and suddenly everything stopped disconnecting. • Why are there so few Wireless N Dual Band adapter PCI cards, only USB adapters instead?

  There has been several Wireless N Dual Band routers/APs out in the market for quite some time now, and there are several Wireless N Dual Band USB adapters out there. But as for PCI/PCI-X card adapters, there seems to be only one (the Linksys WMP600N). Why is that? I find it very strange. Is it because the USB adapters are easier to install, and can be used on multiple computers? But if so, why isn't it the same case with single band (2.4 Ghz) wireless N adapters? Because for these ones there as many PCI card adapters as there are USB adapters. Also, can the USB adapters, despite the lack of external antenna, offer the same level of performance as a card with external antennas?

• Is it possible to sync specific router settings across multiple routers?

  I recently purchased a second Linksys wireless routers set up on the other side of my home and I am wondering if it is possible to somehow sync particular settings between the two? For instance what I am really after is the "MAC Filter List". I would "like" to be able to maintain the list on both routers without having to manually type in the field values. maybe this isn't possible, or has an easy answer, but hopefully those of you who know will cut me a bit of slack. I tried to "google" the answer to this of course, but it seems any searches with the words "sync" and "router" and/or "wifi" result in pages of people having issues with synching their iOS devices over wifi. I would say that have decent amount of networking knowledge in regards to average home networks, and I imagine in larger businesses / corporations they must have a "simpler" way of maintaining things like this. Any insight to point me in the right direction will be much appreciated.

Also, ping ignores many other parameters, again, by exiting silently. I failed to find any references that DD-WRT has a limited version of ping whatsoever. I also don't think it can be a permissions issue as mentioned here since the only user with DD-WRT is root. What's wrong?

• Data transfer speed to USB storage connected to wifi router very slow

  Here is my setup. A Linksys Cisco E3200 wifi router. A MacbookPro running OS X Lion 10.7.4. A Seagate GoFlex 1TB hard drive connected to wifi router via the USB port. When I try to transfer data from my MBP to the HDD, the data transfer rate is very low. I'm getting around 3MB/s write speed. This is very slow compared to the speed I get when HDD is directly connected to the MBP. The HDD is NTFS formatted. And the router provides access to HDD using Samba share. So I connect to the HDD using smb://. What is the limiting factor here affecting the data transfer rate?

• Blocking IP address with port forwarding

  I have a website setup behind a router, so the router has the external facing address and it will forward requests to the webserver inside the network. If there are X number of invalid login attempts, that IP address will be blocked from logging in. The problem is that because the site is being accessed through port forwarding, all requests show up as though they are coming from the router address, and thus the router address becomes the blocked IP. I'm not sure if this is a limitation of the router (linksys wrt160n) or if this a more general issue. Is there a way to handle this?

  I have been trying to find an answer to this, but all I get is hobbyists trying to connect they linksys's and get some magic out of it. So I am thinking of a way I could combine two 100Mbp Fiber Optics lines into a single connection for our office. I assume it involves some CISCO learning or something like this. Was thinking that I might need to configure some big router to load-balance the NAT'ing in some way. I assume that meny of you have done something similar and maybe someone could share the knowledge or at least provide some tips ?

• Win XP cannot connect (or see) my wifi network, but can see others

  since yesterday I have a strange wifi problem with my pc. I have a wireless linksys router setup that worked fine for many months, now since yesterday my pc won't connect to the wifi signal anymore. The strange thing is, my macbook pro still connects fine. SSID is broadcasting, but my windows XP doens't see it, I have all signal modes set to "auto". Windows XP sees all my neighbours wifi networks, so the wifi card isn't broken or anything. Any idea what can be wrong here?

• VMware - Broadcom 1000Gbps NIC does not link at 100Mbps to a Cisco switch port

  Today we've stumbled on a very awkward situation with our VMWare Server. The server is with ESX 3.5 that has a 1Gbps NIC. We bought a brand new managed Cisco Linksys switch with 10/100Mbps interface ports but when we plugged the cable in one of the ports the link simply does not wanted to activate :S... Does anyone with more VMware experience have ever had similar problem? From what I know is that 1Gbps NICs are backwards compatible with 100Mbps switches. I am starting to go nuts :@

• Unable to ping between subnets and out to internet

  My setup is Modem - Linksys router - Laptop with 2 devices (wlan0/eth0) - desktop machine Router is 192.168.1.1 gateway to the internet Laptop wlan0 is 192.168.1.4 with a gw of 192.168.1.1 Laptop eth0 is 192.168.2.254 which acts as a second gateway desktop is 192.168.2.100 On laptop i've setup ip_forward to 1, and have inserted 2 iptables rules -A FORWARD -i eth0 -o wlan0 -j ACCEPT -A FORWARD -i wlan0 -o eth0 -j ACCEPT The laptop can ping outside the network (i,e, yahoo.com) it can not ping 192.168.2.100. The desktop can ping 192.168.2.254 but nothing outside the network or 192.168.1.0 subnet. On laptop ip route show lists: 192.168.2.0/24 dev eth0 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.2.254 192.168.1.0/24 dev wlan0 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.1.4 127.0.0.0/8 dev lo scope link default via 192.168.1.1 dev wlan0 What am I missing to make my desktop go through the laptop in order to access the router which provides access to the internet? Unfortunately, the "fine" manuals for both packages were quite inscrutable and unfriendly to a novice.   Does anyone know of a inexpensive NAT router that has the ability to limit access to the Internet to a specific MAC address? I know the Linksys routers have a MAC filtering feature, but it is the opposite of what I need. It allows you to block access to a specific MAC address. I need something that will block all, but allow an exception. I'm dealing with some VOIP issues in my company's network, and I think the answer is to have a separate router on the network for my PBX to use. I want to make sure that other nodes are not allowed to access the Internet via this second router.

• Taskbar Disappears Over Remote Desktop Connection When Outside Local Network

  I've got a machine on my home network running Windows Server 2012 (Based on Win8) and rather than attach a monitor I remote desktop in and it works fine on my local network. The problem is, when I try to access it from outside my local network the taskbar disappears completely. When I minimize an application rather than minimize to the taskbar it simply closes the window as small as it can as if the taskbar never existed (see photos at ). I've messed with the connection properties (show/hide desktop background, etc.) with no luck. I've used the following methods to remote in and they all are fine when on the local network and taskbar-less from outside: Remote Desktop Connection on Mac Remote Desktop Connection on Windows Jump Desktop on iOS using RDP To access the computer from outside my local network I'm using a Linksys router and mapping to the server IP, port 3389.   I am a software developer. I travel and sometimes have a need to access my files at home and tweak other family members computers. I would like to connect to my home network via VPN and then RDP into whatever machine i need to. Currently i have a Windows Server 08 machine, which is my file server, database server, web server (for development work), source control repository, etc. (and also somewhat of a workstation when i need it to be). I want to use this same machine to run my VPN through. I have a linksys WRTG54 router. My ISP is AT&T DSL, with a dynamic IP address - so i'm assuming I'll either need to request a static IP or sign up with one of those static ip services.. where it keeps your dynamic ip synced up with a static one. While I do understand software engineering I am no expert in networking. What do i need to do to setup my VPN?
