  • How do I password protect my printer in Windows 7?

    I have two young kids who have gotten rather computer saavy. They love playing their games, especially when it allows them to print out awards or coloring pages. Unfortunately this means that in the time it takes to refresh my cup of coffee, they can easily drop a 10 page document into the printer queue, and my printer ink runs out rather fast. How would I setup some kind of password protection on the printing, so that I would have to do some kind of final approval before they get their printouts?

  • No Properties path set - looking in classpath

    For whatever reason my project has decided it cannot find my transaction.properties file. It is located in the : src/main/resource However it looks in looks in target/classes/ The file also resides yet throws the errors(see below) These all seem to stem from the whole in the init of code I have no acces to which is always fun.     Apple, for memory management issues, recommend defining outlets on properties, not in the attribute declaration. But, as far as I know, declaring properties exposes the class to external classes, so this could be dangerous. On UIViewController we have the main view definition and the logic, so MVC is slightly cheated in this cases. What is the beteer approach, Apples's recommendation for memory-management or armored classes?

  • Passing arguments between classes - use public properties or pass a properties class as argument?

    So let's assume I have a class named ABC that will have a list of Point objects. I need to make some drawing logic with them. Each one of those Point objects will have a Draw() method that will be called by the ABC class. The Draw() method code will need info from ABC class. I can only see two ways to make them have this info: Having Abc class make public some properties that would allow draw() to make its decisions. Having Abc class pass to draw() a class full of properties. The properties in both cases would be the same, my question is what is preferred in this case. Maybe the second approach is more flexible? Maybe not? I don't see here a clear winner, but that sure has more to do with my inexperience than any other thing. If there are other good approaches, feel free to share them. Here are both cases: class Abc1 { public property a; public property b; public property c; ... public property z; public void method1(); ... public void methodn(); } and here is approach 2: class Abc2 { //here we make take down all properties public void method1(); ... public void methodn(); } class Abc2MethodArgs { //and we put them here. this class will be passed as argument to //Point's draw() method! public property a; public property b; public property c; ... public property z; } Also, if there are any "formal" names for these two approaches, I'd like to know them so I can better choose the tags/thread name, so it's more useful for searching purposes. Is it in the root (ie "src") or within a package... And how do I access this file, if it is placed in "src"- my code will be within a package (and the package's directory will be under src)- so how do I access the properties file, which is in "src", from a class within a package?

  • add printer on windows 7 with vbscript and wmi

    I have a problem where I can't add a printer on my Windows 7 machine, because it fails with "The printer driver is unknown" (error code 1797) using WMI/VBScript. The thing is that the printer driver already exists on the PC. I've used AddPrinterConnection to connect to the remote printer queue, and the drivers get installed. I've confirmed they exist by a) Enumerating Win32_PrinterDriver with WBEMTEST utility which shows the driver, and also in the Printer Management MMC snap-in. Is there some other scriptable way I can get this to work? I'm adding a local TCP/IP port, pointing my new printer object instance to use that port and the driver from using AddPrinterConnection, and giving it a name, but it refuses to work...

  • Windows7 access to Printer shared with XP ?

    I have, at home, an eeebox running with XP 24/24 with an attached printer (Canon IP5300) installed as shared. We have a few other laptops and PC, all with vista, that can access and print on the shared printer without problem. We just received a new Dell computer with Windows7-64 on it, but it fails to connect the shared printer. I tried connecting the printer with its USB cord directly to the Windows7 PC and the required driver was automatically downloaded and installed. I could then access the printer specific properties, etc. But if I connect it back to the XP computer, the windows7 PC still refused to connect to the remote printer although it now have the drivers. The windows7 is a family pack. By the way, I also have an old canon scanner still perfectly working with XP, but for which I can't find compatible drivers for windows 7. Do I have to buy a new one ? Any help would be welcome.

    I have a HP-1210 printer connected to a win 7 ultimate edt, this one, the printer-host, is logged to a domain. I also have a Windows 7 home edition (not logged into the domain) and I want to install the hp1210 printer. Other printers in the network (connected to the domain) are currently connected to the printer. In the Win 7 Home I ran the HP1210 installer but it doesn't find the printer over the network. Is this because this win7home is not connected to the domain? Is there any way to manually specify the printer path?

  • Canon Mx772 printer recognized, drivers loaded...but all print jobs "Held"

    BRAND NEW to Ubuntu but loving it so far. I have a Canon MX772 wireless printing running on my network and am able to print fine from a PC and Mac. Using the printers IP, Ubuntu was able to find it and I accepted all of the "recommended" items (it found a Canon MX770 driver). Everything seems to load fine...but the test page does not print, nor does any print commands make it to the printer. If I open the print dialogue jobs are shown as "held" and when I look at the jobs attributes, I see "Job printer state message=cannot specify model number" and then a few lines down "job state reasons=aborted by system". If I try to "resume" it immediately goes back to "held". I can successfully ping the IP of the printer. Would be very appreciative of other ideas...printing is the last check in the box before I am all set up. Thanks!

    I am new to Linux. I have heard one of the drawbacks to Linux is the peripheral support. I automatically installed my Epson Stylus NX420 using the "add printer" feature. It was super easy and I was thrilled to prove that Ubuntu defied the typical stereotype of printer support issues, or so I thought. I tried to print something and the printer went absolutely crazy. It spit out page after page, until I finally just unplugged it. I am curious to know if there is a driver out there that can correct this issue. I am using the 12.04 distro. Thanks, Jacob

  • How to add a printer in gnome-shell

    I'm using Gnome Shell (although I'm not sure whether the "Printers" app is part of that or just part of Gnome). I go to "Printers" from the overview, click the + button on the bottom left, choose network and then see a message "FirewallD is not running. Network printer detection needs services mdns, ipp, ipp-client and samba-client enabled on firewall.". It's not auto detected anything. There's an Address box and a Search by Address tickbox, but neither seem to do anything. I'm frustrated because I know all the details of the printer, but have nowhere to put them in. Automation is supposed to make things easier, no? For example I know the printer is at lpd://10.67.5.3/lp1 but I can't put this in anywhere. Is there a GUI that works, or have I misunderstood how to use it?

(i'm on 10.10)

  • Network printer gets disabled occasionally

    I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 and have a HP-Laserjet-3005P network printer. Occasionally (perhaps related to rebooting) the printer, which is setup as the default printer, becomes disabled. After realizing that I'm not getting anything printed, I must then open printing preferences and click on "enabled". Then it prints happily until the next time that it becomes disabled... Any ideas why this is happening and/or how I could fix it? I know I'm giving very little information, I can't think of anything else to give...if there's something I should be providing, please let me know.

    So I set up my printer on 12.10 to share via SAMBA. Windows 'sees' it, it will install it on windows (I have the printer driver installs but it asks for it in Windows default list.. ?), then I can print a test page to the ubuntu printer from Windows. But If I try to print something in Notepad/Wordpad it says 'Printing' but doesn't add it to the "See whats printing" list. If you do it in Google Chrome, however, it works. Any ideas?

I've to configure 10.0.1.1 and 10.0.1.2 as DNS addresses, other wise I cannot connect C-1 and C-2 to Internet. - C-1: My computer, a CCE XLE-425 (remember: no ethernet input), with Windows 7, admin access. - C-2: another computer with better configs than mine, MAC:A, Windows XP. Requirements: I want to print, to access Internet and to do it myself (no need to call network admin men in black people). Pay attention to MAC clones and DNS info.

    I have a business class that contains many properties for various stock-exchange price types. This is a sample of the class: public class Prices { public decimal Today {get; set} public decimal OneDay {get; set} public decimal SixDay {get; set} public decimal TenDay {get; set} public decimal TwelveDay {get; set} public decimal OneDayAdjusted {get; set;} public decimal SixDayAdjusted {get; set;} public decimal TenDayAdjusted {get; set;} public decimal OneHundredDayAdjusted {get; set;} } I have a legacy system that supplies the prices using string ids to identify the price type. E.g. Today = "0D" OneDay = "1D" SixDay = "6D" //..., etc. Firstly, I load all the values to an IDictionary() collection so we have: [KEY] VALUE [0D] = 1.23456 [1D] = 1.23456 [6D] = 1.23456 ...., etc. Secondly, I set the properties of the Prices class using a method that takes the above collection as a parameter like so: SetPricesValues(IDictionary<string, decimal> pricesDictionary) { // TODAY'S PRICE string TODAY = "D0"; if (true == pricesDictionary.ContainsKey(TODAY)) { this.Today = pricesDictionary[TODAY]; } // OneDay PRICE string ONE_DAY = "D1"; if (true == pricesDictionary.ContainsKey(ONE_DAY)) { this.OneDay = pricesDictionary[ONE_DAY]; } //..., ..., etc., for each other property } Is there a more elegant technique to set a large amount of properties?     I have a j2ee app using Struts2. I have a gloabl properties file which is declared in struts.properties which resides in WEB-INF/classes. It has the following setting: struts.custom.i18n.resources=mypropertyfile mypropertyfile also resides in WEB-INF/classes Say for example it contains the following: pdf.test.title=PDF Test then on jsp I use the following to make use of the property file <s:text name="pdf.test.title"/> This setup was working on Sun App server 8.2 but is not working on GlassFish App Server (I see pdf.test.title on the browser rather than PDF Test). I do not have access to GlassFish App server to try and tweak the setting to make it work. So I want to make changes to the code and see if that will help. My question is: What are some other ways to use properties file in a J2EE app? (using Struts2 or not). I'm also open to ways suggested to make changes on glassfish to make this work? Build/version #'s GlassFish = 9.1_02 (build b04-fcs) Struts2 = 2.0.6 JRE6

List<Person> newPersonList = ... List<Difference> = GetDifferences(oldPersonList, newPersonList); public List<Difference> GetDifferences(List<Person> oldP, List<Person> newP) { //how to check the properties without casting and checking //for each type and individual property?? //can this be done with Reflection even in Lists?? } In the end I would like to have a list of Differences like this: class Difference { public List<string> ChangedProperties { get; set; } public Person NewPerson { get; set; } public Person OldPerson { get; set; } } The ChangedProperties should contain the name of the changed properties.
