  • Smart subdomain routing via reverse proxy

    I have two servers on my home network: OSX Server and an Ubuntu Server. I'd love to have external subdomains osx.mydomain.com point to osx and ubuntu.mydomain.com point to ubuntu. I know the normal way to do this is to have a static external IP address for each, but that's not an option as this is just my home setup. My question is: is there a way to do this with some reverse proxy trickery? OSX is currently the default entry point for all traffic. I was able to setup a reverse proxy on OSX for ubuntu.mydomain.com on port 80, so web traffic was correctly being proxied to my ubuntu. I'd like to ssh and do a bunch of other stuff though!

  • Reverse proxy using hop and RDP

    I am trying to connect from Vista to XP using RDP via reverse proxy using putty and an intermidiate host. There are myriad articles on the internet how to do it using vnc, ssh servers, winsshd, etc, but I can't find anything that helps me in this specific case. What I have: Windows XP host behind the firewall - 'destination' linux host running ssh on the internet - 'intermediate' windows host behind the firewall - 'source' All I want to do is open reverse tunnel from destination to intermidiate and use this tunnel for connecting back from the source. That should be simple to setup, however I just cannot make it. This is what I do: On 'destination', open putty session, create tunnel to 'intermediate' using following settings: source port 3389, destination is 'source:33389', direction is local On 'source', open putty session, create tunnel to 'intermediate'using following settings: source port 33389, destination is 'destination:33389', direction is local Finally, on source, open termnal services client and connect it to localhost:33389.Unfortunately it seems like packets do go somewhere but eventually client times out. Am I totally misunderstanding the concept? Please help!

    Hello, I am using nginx right now for our production sites with the reverse proxy to apache that's on the same server and it works fantastic. I'm wondering if I can do this: Install nginx on box #1 in say Canada and have it reverse proxy http requests to box #2 in a datacenter in the USA. I know there may be some latency or delays in loading the page etc but that would probably be not noticable to the end user especially if both servers have 100mb ports. Box #2 only does the apache requests, all images are served from box #1 via nginx. Now, would the end visitor be able to tell in any which way that there are 2 boxes being used? Box #2 has sensitive data which we can't have stolen in the event of hacking etc, so this method helps keep things a bit more secure. Anyone know if this is possible or have done something similar?

    In Excel 2003, I have a time series from a financial report that goes something like this: 2007 2006 2005 Amount 300 200 100 I want to create a graph of the time series that looks something like this (please excuse the ugly ascii graph): 300| .x | ... 200| .x.. | ... 100| x |____________________ 0 2005 2006 2007 But intead of getting an upward sloping graph, excel wants to put my time series in reverse (the way it actually appears in the spreadsheet). Is there any way to make excel display the x axis in reverse of the way it normally does? I've tried manually reversing the range in the chart dialog (changing a range of B1:D3 to D3:B1), but excel just puts it back.

    I have front end rails app, that reverse proxies to any of a number of backend rails apps depending on URL, for example http://www.my_host.com/app_one reverse proxies to http://www.remote_host_running_app_one.com such that a URL like http://www.my_host.com/app_one/users will display the contents of http://www.remote_host_running_app_one.com/users I have a large, and ever expanding number of backends, so they can not be explicitly listed anywhere other than a database. This is no problem for mod_rewrite using a prg:/ rewrite map reverse proxy. The question is, the urls returned by rails helpers have the form /controller/action making them absolute to the root. This is a problem for the page served by mod_rewrite because links on the proxied page appear as absolute to the domain. i.e.: http://www.my_host.com/app_one/controller/action has links that end up looking like /controller/action/ when they need to look like /app_one/controller/action Is there a way to fix this server-side, so that the links will be routed correctly?

    My dream setup: php 5.3.6 + mysql 5.5.10 on Apache2, FastCGI, PHP-FPM, APC with nginx 1.0 front end reverse proxy. And as free server management panel: Virtualmin GPL on centos 5.6 In a new centos 5.6 setup. Using this code for installing virtualmin: wget http://software.virtualmin.com/gpl/scripts/install.sh chmod +x install.sh ./install.sh After setup, i see php is 5.1 and mysql is 5.0 version. And system not supporting php-fpm but supporting fcgid wrapper. I am ultra newbie on server management so i couldnt find workaround after this. I want to switch fcgid wrapper to PHP-FPM + fastcgi at least for 1 virtual server. And if i can find a fix for this section, i want to setup nginx 1.0 as front end reverse proxy for serving static files and passing php files to apache. http://nginxcp.com/ is what i want but its for cpanel.

  • Apache Reverse Proxy not working inside a VirtualHost running a Mono Web Application

    I have a mono web application running with this virtual host below. It is running on Apache 2.2.20 / Ubuntu 11.10. I tried to add a reverse proxy inside this virtualhost so I can make asynchronous or AJAX type calls back to this same domain. My asynchronous requests would have problems in many browsers calling services that are on another domain (cross domain requests problem). I am wanting to do reverse proxy calls to this other service using http://www.whatever.com/monkey/. So, I added the directive and top directive to try to make this work. It is weird though...nothing I do seems to have any effect. I can put the exact same markup in my default website virtualhost file and it works great. What is the deal?   • why is rdiff-backup not compatible with encfs ---reverse

    I'm trying to use encfs with rdiff-backup to ensure that my backups to a remote server are encrypted. The easiest way to do this would be to use encfs --reverse - which means encfs will create a virtual encrypted file system, which I can then backup using rdiff-backup. Except that it doesn't work. Rdiff-backup fails every time with an "input/output error" on the encfs virtual filesystem. It seems I'm not the only one with this problem, but no one has said what the problem is: this person reported the same issue, but was just told to use sshfs instead (see below on that); in this question on serverfault, one of the answers just states that "rdiff-backup seems to have trouble accessing the EncFS-reverse filesystem." There's an open bug report on the Debian bug tracker(bug 731413, I can't post the link) on this bug, but it's been open since December 2013 with no response. Does anyone know what the problem actually is? Is there a workaround? I can't use the two most commonly suggested alternatives - sshfs and then running encfs on that, or using Duplicity - as both require a much higher bandwidth connection than I have access to (Duplicity requires regular full backups).

  • Using IIS7 as a reverse proxy

    I'm setting up a server at home to host a few small websites. One of them is .NET based and needs IIS, the others are PHP based and need Apache. So, I have both IIS 7 and Apache 2.2.x installed on my server with IIS on port 80 and Apache running on port 8080. I would like to set up IIS to work as a reverse proxy, forwarding the requests for the Apache sites to port 8080 and serving the requests for the .NET site itself based on the host headers. Like this: www.mydotnetsite.com/* -> IIS -> serve from IIS www.myapachesite.com/* -> IIS -> forward to apache on port 8080 www.myothersite.com/* -> IIS -> forward to apache on port 8080 I did a bit of googling and it seemed like the Application Request Routing feature would do what I needed, but I can't seem to get it to work the way I want it to. I can get it to forward ALL traffic to the Apache server and I can get it to forward traffic with a specific URL pattern to the Apache server, but I can't seem to get it to forward based on the host headers (e.g. "forward all requests for www.apachesite.com - localhost:8080") So the question is, how would I go about configuring ARR to do this? Or do I need a different tool? I'm also open to using Apache as the reverse proxy and forwarding the .NET site requests to IIS instead if that's easier (running Apache on port 80 and IIS on 8080).

    Ever since we switched over our cluster to communicate via private interfaces and created a DNS server with correct forward and reverse lookup zones, we get this message before the M/R job runs: ERROR org.apache.hadoop.hbase.mapreduce.TableInputFormatBase - Cannot resolve the host name for /192.168.3.9 because of javax.naming.NameNotFoundException: DNS name not found [response code 3]; remaining name '9.3.168.192.in-addr.arpa' A dig and nslookup both show that the reverse and forward look-ups both get good responses with no errors from within the cluster.     I am currently working on an application that allows reverse geocoding using silverlight + bing maps.   • Does any Certificate Authority support both SAN and wildcards?

    My basic quandry is that wildcard certificates don't support subdomains of subdomains, nor do they help with alternate domain names. Basically, if my CN is example.com, I want a Subject Alternative Name field that looks roughly like so: DNS:example.com DNS*.example.com DNS:*.beta.example.com DNS:example.net DNS:*.example.net DNS:*.beta.example.net Using a self-signed cert, I verified that the browsers will work just fine with this. Unfortunately, none of the Certificate Authorities that I looked into (Thawte, GoDaddy, Verisign, Digicert) seemed to support both wildcard certs and Subject Alternative Name (sometimes referred to as "Multiple Domain UCC"). I even called up GoDaddy tech support to confirm. Is there a CA (trusted by 99% of browsers) that supports wildcards for the Subject Alternative Name? One little restriction: I'm saddled with Amazon EC2's single Elastic IP per instance limitation. Here are what I see as my backup plans: set up three extra EC2 instances, each configured for a different IP address and cert, and nginx reverse proxy from three of them into the app server(s) introduces latency(?), and even the cheapest EC2 instance isn't that cheap instead of dedicated reverse proxy instances, setup the four or more almost identical EC2 app servers, with nginx using the port to determine which cert to deliver, and use haproxy to distribute the traffic amongst themselves. complicated to configure and manage? I'm not using the cheapest EC2 instance type for my app servers. If I don't need 4+ app servers for the load, it raises the cost. set up an external server (outside of EC2) that doesn't have EC2's Elastic IP address restrictions, setup all of the alternate IP addresses and certificates on that server, and nginx reverse proxy from that server into the EC2 app servers. extra IP addresses are almost free (still need to pay for the server of course), but don't come with the robust "elasticity" that Amazon's Elastic IPs provide. even more latency than in the first scenario. Are these approaches crazy or reasonable? Do you have another one to suggest?

    I have a similar question than django cross-site reverse. But i think I can't apply the same solution. I'm creating an app that lets the users create their own site. After completing the signup form the user should be redirected to his site's new post form. Something along this lines: new_post_url = 'http://%s.domain:9292/manage/new_post %site.domain' logged_user = authenticate(username=user.username, password=user.password) if logged_user is not None: login(request, logged_user) return redirect(new_product_url) Now, I know that "new_post_url" is awful and makes babies cry so I need to reverse it in some way. I thought in using django.core.urlresolvers.reverse to solve this but that only returns urls on my domain, and not in the user's newly created site, so it doesn't works for me. So, do you know a better/smarter way to solve this?

  • Visio 2010 Reverse Engineer Oracle

    I have used Visio 2007 in the past to reverse engineer Oracle databases to get a flow scheme. I believe all Office 2007 products were x86 as well which is where I suspect my issue currently lies. I have since upgraded to Visio 2010 x64 and when I go to reverse engineer something from Oracle it shows up under Installed Visio Drivers but I can't seem to create a data source using it. My assumption here is it is because Oracle doesn't play nicely with x64 and with Visio being compiled as x64 I don't even get the option to use it. Has anyone done this with Visio 2010 x64 and Oracle yet? Or are there other tools you would recommend to reverse engineer and get a model such as the one generated by Visio?

Given a string, we were to find the longest continuous subsequence whose reverse is also a subsequence present in the given string. Example: INPUT: pqrstuvtsrv OUTPUT: i=3, k=2 rst -> tsr (rst found first at i=3 and for 2 more positions) INPUT: mpqrsrqp OUTPUT: i=2, k=6 pqrsrqp in reverse INPUT: mmpqssss OUTPUT: i=5, k=3 I thought of putting the string and its reverse into 2 different arrays and comparing character by character. But I'm sure this is not the best way to do it. Any suggestions as to what could be the most efficient ?

  • Play bitmap animation list in reverse order?

    I have a bitmap animation defined in XML, to open a door. I also need to animate closing the door, which contains the same frames but in reverse order. I don't want to create a second XML for this. The only reverse parameter I found in the documentation is related with repeating, and this doesn't apply, since I want the opening animation to finish when the door is closed and not continue to closing animation. I also found some threads about using a custom interpolator, but can I use / makes sense with a bitmap animation? How can I play the XML animation in reverse order?
