  • What are the attack vectors for passwords sent over http?

    I am trying to convince a customer to pay for SSL for a web site that requires login. I want to make sure I correctly understand the major scenarios in which someone can see the passwords that are being sent. My understanding is that at any of the hops along the way can use a packet analyzer to view what is being sent. This seems to require that any hacker (or their malware/botnet) be on the same subnet as any of the hops the packet takes to arrive at its destination. Is that right? Assuming some flavor of this subnet requirement holds true, do I need to worry about all the hops or just the first one? The first one I can obviously worry about if they're on a public Wifi network since anyone could be listening in. Should I be worried about what's going on in subnets that packets will travel across outside this? I don't know a ton about network traffic, but I would assume it's flowing through data centers of major carriers and there's not a lot of juicy attack vectors there, but please correct me if I am wrong. Are there other vectors to be worried about outside of someone listening with a packet analyzer? I am a networking and security noob, so please feel free to set me straight if I am using the wrong terminology in any of this.

    anyone can help me? I just got this problem today. Before this my site running smooth with Fastcgi enable but now its show 500 internal server error with below logs. I need to disable php fastcgi in LxAdmin so that my visitor can access my site but when I disable php fastgi, my web performance is very slow with high load to server. I also include the performance screenshot. What should I do?   • Why is the page still caching even after the no-cache headers have been sent?

    I've done a ton of research on this and have asked many people with help and still no success. Here are the details... I'm involved in developing a website that pulls data from various data files, combines them in a temp .csv file, and then is graphed using a popular graphing library: dygraphs. The bulk of the website is written in PHP. The parameters that determine the data that is graphed are stored in the users session, the .csv is named after the users session and available for download, and then the .csv file is written in a script that passes it to the dygraphs object. And we've found, even with the no-cache headers sent: header("Cache-Control: no-cache, must-revalidate"); header("Expires: Sat, 26 Jul 1997 05:00:00 GMT"); Many users experience in the middle of a session, (if enough different graphs are generated) the page displaying an older, static rendering of the page (data they had graphed earlier in the session) as if it were cached and loaded instead of getting a new request. It only gets weirder though: I've checked using developer tools in both Firefox and Chrome and both browsers are receiving the no-cache headers just fine; Even when the problem occurs if you view the page source, the source is the correct content (a table/legend is also dynamically created using php, the source shows the correct table, but what is rendered is older content); the page begins to render correctly until the graph is about to be display, and then shows the older content; the older content displays as if it were a completely static overlay--the cached graph does not have the same dynamic features (roll over data point display, zoom and pan, etc.) And it is as if the correct page were somewhere beneath it (the download button for the csv file moves depending on how large the table is. The older, static page does nothing if you click the download .csv button, but if you can manage to find the one in the page beneath it you can click and still download the .csv. The data in the .csv is correct) It is one of the strangest things I've seen in development thus far. Some other relevant facts are that all the problems I've personally experience occurred while I was using Chrome. Non of these symptoms have been reported by Firefox users. IE users have had the same problems (IE users are forced to use chrome frame). I'm at my wits end at this point. We've sent the php headers; we've tried setting the cache profile for php on IIS as "DisableCache" (or whatever); we've tried sending a random query string to the results page; we've tried all the appropriate meta tags--all with no success.

Ability to view comments on top of a notification If an action is performed on a notification such as Reassign, Request for Information or Provide Information, the recipient of the notification will see who performed the last action and the associated comment on top of the notification. Reassigning a request for information notification If an approver requests more information on a notification from it's submitter, the submitter now has two options Answer Request for More Information Transfer Request for More Information If the submitter thinks the requested information can be provided by another user, he/she can transfer the request to the other user. Please note that only Transfer is supported for Request for More Information. Once transferred, the submitter cannot access the notification and provide the requested information. Use actual sent date when reassigning a notification The Sent field in notification header always showed the date on which the notification was first created. If the notification was later reassigned, the Sent date was not updated to show the last action date. This caused problems in following scenario Approval notification was sent to JACK on 01-JAN-2012 JACK waited for 10 days before reassigning to JILL on 10-JAN-2012 JILL does not see the notification as sent on 10-JAN-2012, instead sees it as sent on 01-JAN-2012 Although the notification was originally created on 01-JAN-2012, it was sent to JILL only on 10-JAN-2012 The enhancement now shows the correct sent date in Worklist and Notification Details page.     I have a new iMac with OS X 10.7 (Lion) on it that refuses to connect to a PPTP-based VPN server (running Windows 2003 SBS). To shortcut past a lot of questions: There is a Dell workstation running Windows 7 on the same LAN as the Mac that is able to establish a PPTP connection to the same VPN server using the same credentials. That would seem to rule out any possible problems with the server, the port forwards on the server's firewall, the internet connection between the two, and the router local to the Dell and iMac. I've tried completely deleting the entire VPN "connection" from the Network prefpane and recreating it from scratch. I am certain the connection details are correct because they exactly match what successfully connects from the Win7 machine sitting next to the iMac. Any suggestions?

    When we used to run our own Exchange server I do not recall getting emails sent back to me that I sent to a distribution list of which I'm a member. However, in our current situation I am getting emails that I sent. Is this standard Exchange behavior? Is there a way to control whether you get your own emails sent back to you when sent to a distribution list that you are on?

  • Android sending lots of SMS messages

    I have a app, which sends a lot of SMS messages to a central server. Each user will probably send ~300 txts/day. SMS messages are being used as a networking layer, because SMS is almost everywhere and mobile internet is not. The app is intended for use in a lot of 3rd world countries where mobile internet is not ubiquitous. When I hit a limit of 100 messages, I get a prompt for each message sent. The prompt says "A large number of SMS messages are being sent". This is not ok for the user to get prompted each time to ask if the app can send a text message. The user doesn't want to get 30 consecutive prompts. I found this android source file with google. It could be out of date, I can't tell.     I am getting the following warnings on the Event Log for a Asp.Net WebSite running on IIS 7. Exception information: Exception type: HttpException Exception message: Server cannot append header after HTTP headers have been sent. at System.Web.Hosting.ISAPIWorkerRequest.SendUnknownResponseHeader(String name, String value) at System.Web.HttpResponse.WriteHeaders() at System.Web.HttpResponse.Flush(Boolean finalFlush) at System.Web.HttpRuntime.FinishRequest(HttpWorkerRequest wr, HttpContext context, Exception e) I tried to debug the WebSite but it just does not show in debugger. The web page which has got this issue contains the following. Its a content page with a Master page. It has a grid inside an UpdatePanel which is Triggered by a Timer. On the specified time grid data is refreshed. Everytime this happens we see a new warning in the EventLog. What is the best way to go about this issue?

  • Email sent by ActionMailer is taking six hours to deliver mail.

    So I have been asked to help maintain a website that uses Ruby on Rails. Now, let me just say I've been programming Ruby for awhile but I am still new to Rails. The first problem brought to my attention is how the activation email takes about six hours to arrive. It would be one thing if the email was not being sent due to errors but it is being send correctly, just slow. Also the server this is running on is also its own SMTP. I checked how the email was being formatted before calling the setup_email method and everything looks okay. I even dug into the ActionMailer lib and read through the files there and didn't see anything out of the ordinary. So what is most likely causing the email to take six hours to deliver?
