  • Arraylist is null; I cannot access books in the arraylist

    I am a beginner-intermediate java programmer and I am getting a null pointer exception from my arraylist. I am writing a bookstore program for APCS and when i add the book, it is supposed to add to the arraylist in the inventory class.   • SQL SERVER – Attach or Detach Database – SQL in Sixty Seconds #068

    When we have to move a database from one server to another server or when we have to move a database from one file to another file, we commonly use Database Attach or Detach process. I have been doing this for quite a while as well. Recently, when I was visiting an organization I found that in this organization lots of developers are still using an older version of the code to attach the database. I quickly pointed that out to them the new method to attach the database, however it was really interesting to find out that they really did not know that sp_attach_db is now a deprecated method to attach the database. This really made me to do today’s SQL in Sixty Seconds. I demonstrate in this SQL in Sixty Seconds how to attach or detach the database using a new method of attaching database.     First time when I familiarized with unit testing was 5 or 6 years ago. It was start of my developing career. I remember that somebody told me about code coverage. At that time I didn’t write any Unit tests. Guy, who was my team lead, told me “Do you see operator if with three conditions? You should check all of these conditions”. So, after that I had written some code, I should go to interface and try to invoke all code which I wrote from user interface. Nice? At current time I know little more about tests and unit testing. I have not participated in projects, designed by Test Driven Development (TDD). Basics of my knowledge are a spying code of my colleagues, some articles and screencasts. I had decide that I should know much more, and became a real professional of unit testing, this is why I had start to read book The art of Unit Testing with Examples in .NET.     It has been quite a long time since I posted SQL in Sixty Seconds Video. Here we are back with the new video. One of the most popular question, I often receive is very similar to following: “How do I reset the password for SA username?” “I have forgotten the SA password, what should I do?” “Our DBA just left the job and now noone knows how to reset the SA password. Please help.” Solution Honestly, it is pretty simple to reset the password for SA username. You just have to login to the system where your SQL Server is installed. Open SQL Server Management Studio and login with the help of Windows Authentication. As local system is the admin of the SQL Server, you will get access with administration privileges. Now, open the database, expand Security >> Login folder and right click over SA username. Now, it will bring up the screen where you can change the password for SA.     There are multiple reasons why a user may want to make a copy of the database. Sometimes a user wants to copy the database to the same server and sometime wants to copy the database on a different server. The important point is that DBA and Developer may want copies of their database for various purposes. I copy my database for backup purpose. However, when we hear coping database – the very first thought which comes to our mind is – Backup and Restore or Attach and Detach. Both of these processes have their own advantage and disadvantages. The matter of the fact, those methods is much efficient and recommended methods. However, if you just want to copy your database as it is and do not want to go for advanced feature. You can just use the copy feature of the SQL Server.   • Is there a canonical book on parallel programming with focus on C++ ?

    I am looking for a good book about parallel programming with focus on C++. Something suitable for a person reasonably good in C++ programming, but with no experience in concurrent software development. On the other hand, I'd prefer a practical book, without loads of silly examples about philosophers eating lunch. Is there a book out there that's the de-facto standard for describing best practices, design methodologies, and other helpful information on parallel programming with focus on C++ ? What about that book makes it special?

  • Cannot "add to address book" in thunderbird on mac. Know a workaround?

    Runing TB 24.5.0 on Mac 10.8.5. I configure TB so that File-"Use Mac OS X Address Book" is not selected. Can open Address Book and see addresses in "COllected Addresses" & create New contact there. But in TB cannot "add to address book". I click on star to right of email address or ctrl-click correspondent and "add to address book". Nothing happens. But correspondent should be added to (some) address book. This is a major inconvenience because I use the address book to distinguish between junk mail from people who I do not know and good mail from people who I do know. Currently the only way for me to add anybody to the address book is to do so by hand, one at a time in "collected addresses". I welcome any work around that would let me add somebody to an address book with a single click. Thanks

    I've looked around but most books seem to fall into one of two categories: Either the book talks about SW technologies but doesn't teach you how to use them Or the book is geared for very complex data modeling and ontology creation. Worse, many of those books are outdated. I'm looking for an up-to-date book that teaches technologies like RDF, SPARQL, RDFS, and GDDRL- and frameworks to make use of them. Any recommendations?

  • iphone Three20 TTMessageController Address Book

    Hey there, I'm trying to use the TTMessageController from Three20 to send messages through a custom web service. I'm not clear on how I can incorporate contacts from the user's address book. I see the model mock address book in the sample app, but the sample only contains names. Is there a way to set the datasource of TTMessageController to be the address book? Thanks, Howie
