• Keep trying to install always throws error help!

  So I was installing 12.10 on my Asus g74sx laptop... Did everything the tutorial told me to do yet I keep getting an error saying that there was an error of input/output.. That I should check the hard drive and see if it needs replacement. I tried with 2 DVDs and did format twice my usb to fat 32 and mounted the image file for 12.10... No idea what is going on. Please help! Mmm I cannot add an image... I'll comment with the link to the error!

  I installed texlive 2012 on ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64 bit machine following the instructions given in the following web How do I install the latest TeX Live 2012? • HELP: I Broke Ubuntu By Uninstalling Compiz

  I'm still getting used to Linux, having come from Windows. I was receiving an error that "compiz" had crashed a few times so I figured I'd uninstall it. sudo apt-get remove compiz sudo apt-get install compiz I logged out then back in, after that, the GUI was totally gone and I have no idea how to get it back or what I need to do to restore the GUI to what it was before I killed poor Compiz. GUI was pretty much unmodified after a fresh install of 14.04 How can I fix it? I'm not even sure how to get to a terminal or anything. The login screen looks normal, but after logging in, it's a totally bare desktop with my backround and a few icons. No Dash, toolbar, etc. Hot Keys don't seem to work either (Super = Dash doesn't work, etc); although I did accidently open "Disk" UI. Not sure how. Please Help! Right now I'm working off my W7 dualboot.

  I have a PHP Form with two different fieldsets and about 4 labels within each. The form mailer is one i found on a tutorial but I'm not sure how to set in all the variables. Should all the 'label for' names also be the name of the variable? And is it easy to format with font-size etc.. once its been sent to an email for easy reading? $course_title = $_POST['course_title']; $course_date = $_POST['course_date']; $course_code = $_POST['course_code']; $course_fee = $_POST['course_fee']; Say i have - Personal Details labels with - first_name, address, postcode, dob. Course Details labels with - course_title, course_date, course_code Would this be correct and if not would anyone be able to help me out here.

• Ubuntu Surround Sound Help?

  I am running Ubuntu 12.10 on a Sony Vaio VGC-RB34G ( http://reviews.cnet.com/desktops/sony-vaio-vgc-rb34g/4505-3118_7-31289053.html ) with an integrated Realtek High Definition Audio sound card. On Windows, I can set up the sound card to provide sound to my surround sound system from the Line Out, Line In, and Mic ports, as in all of these are producing audio. I have tried to use alsa to achieve this result with no luck. Is there any possible way to do this on Ubuntu? Thanks! • Need help to install persistent Ubuntu on USB drive

  I am a new user of Ubuntu. I would like to install a persistent Ubuntu 11.04 to my USB stick, and it should be able to work as a guest OS running on Windows so that I can boot it on other computers other than the one which I used for the installation. I have used several creators such as unetbootin, however from my understanding it can only create Live Linux which I am unable to save my configurations and files. If it's possible I would like to bypass the BIOS, that is to say that I can just load from the virtual machine without having to restart the computer. Thanks in advance!

  I am trying to remove the context name from the url of my server. Current URL - http://www.domainname.com/MyApp/ What I need to make is to make it avaialble at - www.domainname.com/ So it is only going to host one main app and that needs to be displayed when we open www.domainname.com/ on browser. I have already tried couple of things like below - RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/(Context/.*)$ RewriteRule ^/(.*)$ /Context/$1 [P,L] OR redirect permanent /MyApp/ abcd://domainname.com OR Using JKMount - JkMount /MyApp/* ajp13 JkMount /MyApp* ajp13 OR Deploy war file to ROOT of tomcat and make relevant chagnes in web and server.xml All of these aren't working and I keep getting a intenal error. • Help with a formula for Google Adwords [closed]

  Hi guys, This question is more about maths and algorythms in Google Adwords but guess it's the most appropriate community in SE to ask this. I am creating a spreadsheet to calculate Adword formulas and I am stuck in how to calculate the Monthly Net Income for each keyword. I have created a formula which calculates it but can't figure out how to limit the Monthly Budget. • Virtual box doesnt have files machine and help tab

  this is the second time im asking this question because someone had to close my question for a reason which i still dont understand. this is the original question Why is my files,machine,help tab missing in ubuntu 11.10? Most importantly ,i cannot access the machine menu that should be there but isnt. im using ubuntu 11.10 with oracle 4.1.10 heres a picture of what ubuntu should look like,or maybe i am wrong, http://i.stack.imgur.com/JgM5S.png The reason why im asking,is because id like to run a usb key inside my virtual box,but since i cannot access machine,i cant access the devices manager either. • Help with timebased scoring algorithm

  Im trying to devise an appropriate scoring system for my game. The game in essense has a finite number of tasks to complete (say 20) and the quicker you complete these task, the more points you get. I had devised a basic way of doing this using bands of time multiplied by a score for that band multiplied by the number of tasks solved within that time band i.e. (Time Band) = (Points) 1-5 sec = 15, 5-10 secs = 10, 10-20 secs = 5, 20-30 secs = 3, 40 secs onwards = 1, So for example if I did 3 tasks in the 1-5sec band i'd get 15*3=45points, if i found 10 in the 20-30sec band i'd get 3*10=30 points. Im sure there is a more mathematical way of doing this using powers of some kind but I just can't think how and hoping someone has already done something smilar.. Many thanks in advance

  I followed a friend's advice and am using Ubuntu, and was enjoying it. I began to get system errors, tried to fix to no avail. It won't let me download anything to Ubuntu, saying unauthorized or untrusted software, or something. NOW MY CD DRIVE doesn't work! So I can't boot dban or anything via cd. Finally I bought a usb stick but it won't boot dban or anything. I'm about to just smash this with a hammer. Help me start over.

  This script uses a cookie.txt in the same folder chmoded to 777... The problem i am facing is i hav many accounts to login... Say if i hav 5 accounts...i created cookie1.txt,cookie2.txt an so on.. then the script worked..with the post data But i want this to be always logged in and post data.. Can anyone tell me how to do this????? • Encryption Password help!

  Ok so let me summarize this up. I encrypted my Home to protect against hackers of course when I first installed Ubuntu. It loaded up the Terminal and was attempting to show me my encryption password incase it ever needed to be used. So I thought "Ehh what the heck, I can find it out later..." So I closed Terminal and went on with the (amazing!) Ubuntu life. But now I am having to install Java JDK 7.0.0.4 onto my computer to ya know, play games and such. But it is asking for my password for the encrypted Home folder but it never gave it to me... HELP!!! Does anyone remember the command for Terminal to give you you're randomly generated Encryption password pop up on the famous purple window? Please give legitimate answer and fast please!

• Help with intel Imac 2008 Audio not working

  I installed Ubuntu 12.04 and I get no audio except if i insert speakers and set them as headphones. This means really weird feedback and little volume. i'd like to set it back to the mac's default speakers but currently no matter what graphical interface i go into such as Audio or Alsamixer i can not fix the problem.Ive run alsamixer and looked thoroughly throught the forums but cannot find the answer to my problem. When i input cat /proc/asound/cards i get 0 [Intel ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel HDA Intel at 0x50600000 irq 47 Any help would be very much appreciated and as a newcomer i would be glad to give you any information you need.   In a game I'm making in LibGdx, I wish to incorporate a ripple effect. I'm confused as to how I get access to the individual pixels on the screen, or any way to influence them (apart from what I can do with sprite batch). I have my suspicions that I have to do it through openGL, and it has something to do with apply a mesh? This brings me to my question, what exactly is a mesh? I've been working on my game for about half a year, and am doing great with the other aspects of the game, but I find this more advance stuff isn't as well documented. Thanks!

• Help! Installer crashing

  I had ubuntu 12.04 installed on a Satellite l635. I wanted to start over with a fresh install because I had experimented with a bunch of different things, and computer was getting glitchy and random freezes. I used the same iso I used for original install, and it keeps say the installer crashed with a erron5 input/output error. Tried an older iso for 11.10 I had used in the past with same issue... To see if it was disc or computer (not a great idea) I tried the 12.04 iso on another laptop. Now I have 2 laptops with no os. Both discs however live boot on both systems. PLEASE HELP! I've searched forums and can't find the same problem.

• Help deciding on an area of study for a PhD [closed]

  I am going to start a PhD in about 1 year. My undergraduate degree is in computer science and my master's is in artificial intelligence. I want to get ideas about what's going to be hot in say 5 years i.e. what could I spend 3-4 years studying to potentially have expertise that will be applicable to industry and the computing world ? Impossible to answer factually but some ideas and thoughts would be great. I have narrowed my ideas down to AI (yes, even more AI) and information security. AI seems to becoming popular again but security is always a going to be useful. From a career point of view, if I were to stay working in software development then this might actually be the best move but I've always wanted to do a PhD! Many thanks :).

• Can't remove c:/ubuntu folder pleas help?

  hi today i downloaded ubuntu with wubi-installer on my windows 7 machine but after restarting pc and booting in ubuntu installer my pc shuts down while installing because my laptops battery was gone empty i forgot to plug in my adapter so ubunutu fails to install, then i booted in windows 7 to uninstall ubuntu from add/remove programs en reainstall but the uninstaller did not fully remove the files i still have i folder in my c:/ubuntu when i double click on that folder my explorer.exe stops responding and than i need to open the task manager to kill the explorer.exe procces and restart it and right clicking does the same thing i cant do anyting with c:/ubuntu folder to reinstall ubuntu with wubi i have used unlocker1.9 to remove the folder but i get an error saying Error 0x8007045D: The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error HUH ! please help please :( EDIT: Okay i fixed my problem after following this instruction ! i don't understand why you people did not ask me to do this but it's okay i forgive you my poeple LoL !

  Hello I'm trying to make some kind of tool for an school website, what I need to do is to make students take a test and according to what are the results (27 posibilities) they get a set of activities (questions) according to their level which they can solve in around 3 months logging periodically to the website, plus I need teachers to log and look at the reports. Now, I'm a graphic designer myself so my skills are mostly html5 and css3 and I know some php (edit existing ones only) and javascript (jquery) as well, most people tell me that I need a CMS to do the tool but all I find is CMS for display like blogs or news websites which I think aren't useful for me because the website is already made in html and css3 only (I need to add an extra page for the tool) I understand I need to create users and give them special rights according to what type of user they are and I also understand that I need a database where I can store all my questions. • Encrypted Ubuntu Partition HELP!

  I had Zorin 7 Encrypted. I accidentally deleted important GRUB data trying to make more room in the boot folder i think? So the computer would no longer boot up. Anyways, I installed a second Linux OS on the same laptop, but I am unable to access all of my important information that is still on the encrypted partition. When i go to mount it to access everything, it asks for the encryption password... however, it tells me the password is incorrect, which I know 100% that it is the correct password. Someone please help me! Inform me how I can access this encrypted partition or restore the data so that I can boot the computer in Zorin 7 again.

  I have a running Windows 7 and installed Precise along with it just this afternoon. I was doing a manual partition configuration. On the part where I get to set what partition to install the bootloader/MBR I chose the Windows partition. Now every time I choose Windows 7 from GRUB, it just reverts back to the GRUB menu.
