• VCS for single user using file sync service

  I'm trying to setup a version control for my one man project. My project files are in sync thanks to live mesh (but I could be using dropbox for that matter), between my laptop, my home pc and my office pc. I'm now using Netbeans with local file history. Sometimes it helps to revert to a previous state of one file. But imagine a situation when multiple files have problems. Correct me if I'm wrong but I would have to go to every file and revert to previous "safe" state. I don't like this approach, so I'm considering using a version control between SVN and GIT. I have some previous experience with SVN (TortoiseSVN) and I know that I can create a file:// repo. So, what a want to do is setup a VCS inside my synced folder just to have the ability to "revert" to a previous version if something goes wrong. Since everything's been synced to all computers, I wouldn't ever need to run an update. The file tree organization would be the following: C:...\SyncedFolder\MyProject\ Inside MyProject folder are all the project files plus a directory that has SVN or GIT info of my project (the repo/master). What VCS is best for this situation: SVN or GIT? Does SVN need to store all files from HEAD revision, thus "duplicating" all my project inside my synced folder? Does GIT eliminates this problem? Is this the best approach?

• How do you adjust the frame or vertical alignment of a UIBarButtonItem contained by a UIToolbar inst

  Horizontal positioning of UIBarButtonItems is no problem, I can simply pad the space with fixed/flexible space items. However, I can't seem to adjust the toolbar item vertically. UIToolbar has no alignment property, and UIBarButtonItem has no way of setting its frame. I need to do this because we're using a mix of custom icons created using initWithImage, and standard icons created with initWithBarButtonSystemItem. The custom icons aren't being centered properly (they're offset upwards, relative to the system icons, which are centered properly), so the toolbar looks awkward.

• XNA: Networking gone totally out of sync

  I'm creating a multiplayer interface for a game in 2D some of my friends made, and I'm stuck with a huge latency or sync problem. I started by adapting my game to the msdn xna network tutorial and right now when I join a SystemLink network session (1 host on PC and 1 client on Xbox) I can move two players, everything is ok, but few minutes later the two machines start being totally out of synchronization. When I move one player it takes 10 or 20 seconds (increasing with TIME) to take effect on the second machine. I've tried to : Create a thread which calls NetworkSession.Update() continuously as suggested on this forum, didn't worked. Call the Send() method one frame on 10, and the receive() method at each frame, didn't worked either. I've cleaned my code, flushed all buffers at each call and switched the host and client but the problem still remain... I hope you have a solution because I'm running out of ideas... • How can I keep directories in sync

  I have a directory, dirA, that users can work in: they can create, modify, rename and delete files & sub-directores in dirA. I want to keep another directory, dirB, in sync with dirA. What I'd like, is a discussion on finding a working algorithm that would achieve the above, with the limitations listed below. Requirements: 1. Something asynchronous - I don't want to stop file operations in dirA while I work in dirB. 2. I can't assume that I can just blindly rsync dirA to dirB on regular interval - dirA could contain millions of files & directories, and terrabytes of data. Completely walking the dirA tree could take hours. Those two requirements makes this really difficult. Having it asynchronous means that when I start working on a specific file from dirA, it might have moved a lot since it appeared. And the second limitation means that I really need to watch dirA, and work on atomic file operations that I notice. Current (broken) implementation: 1. Log all file & directory operations in dirA. 2. Using a separate process, read that log, and 'repeat' all the logged operations in dirB.   In my previous post I wrote about why you should pay attention when using enum value Zero. After reading that post you are probably thinking like Benjamin Roux: Why don’t you start the enum values at 0x1? Well I could, but doing that I lose the ability to have Sync and Async mutually exclusive by design. Take a look at the following enum types: [Flags] public enum OperationMode1 { Async = 0x1, Sync = 0x2, Parent = 0x4 } [Flags] public enum OperationMode2 { Async = 0x0, Sync = 0x1, Parent = 0x2 } To achieve mutually exclusion between Sync and Async values using OperationMode1 you would have to operate both values: protected void CheckMainOperarionMode(OperationMode1 mode) { switch (mode) { case (OperationMode1.Async | OperationMode1.Sync | OperationMode1.Parent): case (OperationMode1.Async | OperationMode1.Sync): throw new InvalidOperationException("Cannot be Sync and Async simultaneous"); break; case (OperationMode1.Async | OperationMode1.Parent): case (OperationMode1.Async): break; case (OperationMode1.Sync | OperationMode1.Parent): case (OperationMode1.Sync): break; default: throw new InvalidOperationException("No default mode specified"); } } but this is a by design constraint in OperationMode2.   Problem: I work on a notebook and while at work I have access to many NFS mounted drives. When I get home they are obviously not available. Windows 7 solution: My business partner uses Windows 7 and maps the folders via samba. Windows 7 has a very nice feature that let's he make these folders available offline. So when when he connects to the work network the changes get synchronized! Question: Is there a way to mimic that in ubuntu? What I have now: Server to local sync: I have added rsync entries on my crontab to copy server folders => local folders every five minutes. When at work I used the NFS mapped folders and while outside work I use the local copies. When I get at work I manually run a script that syncs local folders => server folders. Problems with my setup: slow startup when not at work (I guess do to the fstab trying to map the server folders) no conflict checking/managing I have to remember to sync manually and be careful because of the different file locations recent files do not work between work and home

  I am working with SkyDrive for a while now and it is GREAT! The only downside is that I am syncing my laptop and my desktop and that they don't have the same files. Example: For recording, I have Cubase installed on my laptop. This programme creates a folder "Cubase LE" in "My Documents". "My Documents" is being sync'd. This means, that on my desktop a folder will appear, named "Cubase LE". But it is not needed there at all! So what I'm looking for is an option to disable some folders from being sync'd. Can this be done? Like, right-clicking on a folder and selecting an option "Don't sync with SkyDrive". Thanks.

• Sync Windows Live Mail between two computers

  Hi, I have a laptop where I have been using Windows Live Mail as my email application for the last year. Yesterday I got a dell desktop as well and I am desperatly trying to set up so my desktop and laptop sync the email between each other. Im using Super Flexible Synchronizer to sync the email storage folder to a NAS on my network, so when setting up the desktop naturally I set it up to download all from the NAS. But each time I open Windows Live Mail on the new machine, some emails suddenly come in duplicates, one is read, the other is not. I have ran through the registry on the new machine and updated an ID i found, in 3 places, one being: C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Contacts{blah blah blah}\DBStore\contacts.edb Still doesnt seem to be enough. Does anyone have any tips or ideas how to sync Windows Live Mail between two computers without duplicates and weird behaviour etc. grateful for your help, jesper

  Sorry for the weird title... I'm (still) quite new to linux and are doing shh commands to an Arch Linux device that has not screen output options. So everything has to be done in the terminal (not my super element). I use the linux device to play around with python (which is quite fun). Now I would like sync my script folder with dropbox. Since I don't have enought space to sync all my dropbox files to the device, I would like to know how I can set it up in a way that it only syncs with the folder I choose. At the time being I have not installed dropbox because I'm afraid that it will immediately begin to sync all my dropbox folders onto my linux device. BONUS INFO: I already have created a folder in my dropbox that I that contains some py scripts I would like to have synced with my linux device.

We're making a change tonight and would rather sync immediately than wait for the other guy to update, especially as we might be making multiple changes.   I have several ExtraSmall-sized Azure VMs (PaaS / Cloud Service based) that are all experiencing drifting of the Windows clock. Research showed that this is quite common, especially in VMs with shared cores. Unfortunately even after configuring the w32time service to sync with time.windows.com and forcing a resync (w32tm /resync), there seems to be a time difference of 2 seconds to the configured NTP server. Though Microsoft states that w32tm is not meant as a high-precision sync tool, a difference of 2 seconds is (IMO) quite a lot for server-activities/processing. What does one have to do to get more accurate time sync?

• VMWare shared folder out of sync

  After booting the guest system, the shared folders are in sync and all works well. But as soon, as I make a change to one of the files on my host system (Windows 7), the file on the guest system (Ubuntu) looses its last characters and still has the old version. So the actual change is not synced. However the version on the guest gets truncated. If I delete the file on the host and create a new one with new content, everything is in sync again. It all started happening when I updated VMWare player 6.0.1. And its happening for my Ubuntu guests only (Redhat works fine). How can I tell VMware tools to force a sync on the shared folders? However, Box Sync renamed the folder to (Box ([email protected]) ) as a bckup, and is downloading everything again. As i have like 30Gb of files, and it takes many hour to download them, i just want to use the files that i already have in my local disk. i tried copying all files again to the new local Box Folder, but files started to get duplicated. Is there any way to avoid downloading everything again each time i reinstall my OS ? Thanks

  I pardon as its not a programming question at all. But if anybody can answer this it will be usefull for me. In MS word 2007 I drew a textbox and entered some text. Then I right clicked on textbox and went to format shape Then went to TextBox tab and reduced the top internal margin to 0.1 cm. But still it seems there is too much space at the top inside the textbox. I am not able to position the text exactly at the vertical middle of textbox. If I choose the auto-rezide option in format Shape, the textBox size is increases automatically but the text remains exactly at vertical and horizontal middle of textbox. but anyhow I need the textbox to be small. • SharePoint 2010 User Profile Sync - Remove Disabled Users

  I have SharePoint 2010 set up to sync active directory users and it is working great. I am getting disabled users in the sync though. I have tried what all the blogs say, filter on userAccountControl bit on equals 2 but to no avail, the disabled users are still syncing. I am at a loss on where to look next. My last resort would be to create a ou/folder in AD and move disabled users there and remove that from the sync connector, but I don't really want to go there. Any ideas?

• Something like Dropbox for local use

  I am looking for a solution to sync folder pairs between a NAS and multiple local macs. Each of the macs could edit files and the other macs should then get synced automatically. Basically my own local version of Dropbox without using "cloud-storage". I have looked into solutions using rsync. As I understand it rsync is not really capable of doing a bi-directional sync. I also do not want to necessarily invoke the sync process. I would prefer a daemon running in the background - waiting and checking for changes and then syncing them "live". The program should also be flexible enough to recognize that it sometimes (in the case with laptops) can not reach the NAS. It should then just wait for the connection to be back again, without bugging me ever few minutes. I have looked into synk, folderwatch, rsync and a few others, but I haven't really found a solution. Isn't there something like "offline folders" from microsoft for the mac? Thanks PS: just for clarification - I don't want to sync for backup purposes, instead I am wanting to sync so that all macs have a local copy of the most recent changes to files.

• Alternative to Dropbox (on my server)?

  I love using Dropbox to sync files between all my machines, and I've heard it uses rsync internally to keep files synced. Sometimes I need to sync very large things, and I don't necessarily want to pay for storage space on someone else's server when I have my own. So does anyone know of any nice cross-platform (pref. open source) automatic file-sync applications out there for this? sidenote: Here is a Dropbox referral link, if you're feeling generous.
