  I have a CISCO 802.11b WIFI Mini PCI LAN card in my IBM ThinkPad T30 laptop. Is this wireless card compatible with Lubuntu? I have Lubuntu installed and it just won't connect. It keeps saying that it is trying to configure then it says that it is connected but it does not work. I know that the wireless network is working correctly because I can connect to it with all my other devices and it works on this very same laptop when I am running Windows. I added the following commands to blacklist.conf, but still no luck blacklist padlock_aes blacklist geode_aes

  I upgraded my HP DV5-1000US Laptop to Ubuntu 12.04. But I cannot get it connected to the Wireless. I went through the settings, Hardware, Additional Drivers and it says that "No proprietary drivers are in use on this system". Also it says "Broadcom STA Wireless Driver" is not activated. I tried to activate it after got my laptop connected to the net through a wired connection, but it says "Sorry, installation of this driver failed. Please have a look at the log file for details: /var/log/jockey.log"

• Internet Timeouts with TP-Link TL-WN821N wireless usb stick - existing solutions dont work

  I'm running Ubuntu12.04 and I'm trying to get a TP-Link TL-WN821N to work. The solution from Internet Timeouts with TP-Link TL-WN821N v2 wireless usb stick didn't work for me. Neither has anything else... I've installed rtl8192cu as per instructions I found elsewhere to no avail. The symptoms I am experiencing are: When I plug in the device the PC can see and connect to wireless networks fine. The network I'm using has internet access and the signal strength is pretty strong. I can't ping and I can't browse the internet (timeout). Any ideas? I'm not sure what the next step would be or what information would be useful at this point.

• Wireless Very slow with 13.10 and BCM4313

  I have a laptop with the BCM4313, and it was working perfectly in Ubuntu 13.04, but I recently upgraded to 13.10 and now my wireless performance is horrible. Initially it didn't work at all, but I removed the wl driver and use the brcmsmac driver instead. Now when I boot up it works at the start, but gets progressively slower. My Android device is reporting 10Mbps down/20Mbps up, but my laptop only gets 1up/down. Does anyone know a solution? I really need my wireless to work, is my best option to just reinstall on 13.04? Thanks!

• 12.04 in Virtualbox is keep losing my wireless connection

  I've Windows 7 as the Host OS, Ubuntu 12.04 as the guest and a Netgear WG111v2 as the USB Wireless device. Its connected to an open Wi-Fi network at work to bypass my works crazy strict filtering, When on the domain. I currently have network eth0 turned off in the virtualbox settings so the only network source would be through the USB device at wlan1. Its odd but the wireless seems extremely temperamental, I constantly have to ifconfig wlan down then ifconfig wlan1 up to get it back online. I know this might be super vague just curious if anyone has tried something like this or run into anything like it to point me in a direction I might not be seeing.

  Evening: I've NEVER had so much difficulty with Ubuntu. I got "Ubuntu Made Easy" and couldn't believe it hasn't done a damn thing to help solve the problems!!! #1. Since install of 12.04 I haven't been able to connect to wireless. Have done everything I can find/think of. Laptop indicates it's receiving wireless. Ran all updates, restricted extras, etc. NOTHING!! Tried to find how to activate built-in webcam (it worked when I installed O.S.) NOTHING; tried to find MBR repair/rebuild terminal command.. NOTHING!!! The book has has been useless, so far!! I really have to solve these problems, otherwise laptop and UBUNTU are worthless!!!   Ran 12.04 through a usb drive for a day or so, and had no issues outside of some latency that is more due to the lack of ram on my aspire one D255e than to OS. Had wireless running with no issue, and wired tested as working also. Ran the install and removed windows 7, wireless network is detected but ethernet is not, and neither gets connection. Disabled proprietary driver and rebooted, re-enabled driver and still neither. I know nothing of ubuntu yet! What do? _<

  there is only the wired connection option available when the menu drops down. i have installed a belkin wireless g card for my desktop. it has been used before on this version of ubuntu 10.10, but after upgrading it shows only wired networks. enable networking and enable notifications have both been ticked. still only wired networks coming. im using ubuntu 10.10 maverick meerkat on my desktop comp and im an absolute begginer at ubuntu. can some one please help me re enable wireless on my comp?

Recently i wipe out the windows and installed the Ubuntu 12.04 LTE using the CD and the installation process completed successfully but my wireless stopped working after. computer wireless indicator turned off and i can't even do the wired connection as well. it is Broadcom BCM4311 adapter. i tried to download the driver from the dell website but they don't have the Linux version of the driver if its that causing the problem. i appreciate your help that can solve my issue. thank you.

• BCM4313 Wireless on Ubuntu Server 12.04

  I'm trying to run an old netbook with Broadcom BCM4313 wireless as a print server with Ubuntu Server 12.04. Setting up the wireless without the GUI, however, is proving problematic. I do think however I've narrowed down the problem. I've tried both the wl driver (from bcmwl-kernel-source) as well as the (included) brcmsmac driver. With both of them, when I issue the command iwlist wlan0 scanning (eth1 for wl), I only see neighbouring networks- not my own. I believe this might be because my networks are n-only, but my neighbouring networks are mixed mode (I suspect this because the output of iwlist wlan0 scanning shows "Bit Rates" only as high as 54 Mb/s). Any ideas how to go about getting this thing to connect?

  I installed Ubuntu on a partition of my MacBook Pro. Wireless connections work fine when I switch to OSX, but the wireless networks are not even detected when I boot Ubuntu. I installed Wicd as a new network manager, but I'm still having the same problem. Ubuntu works on a wired connection though. I have searched the web for a solution... similar questions have been asked but I have not been able to find a way to fix this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• Still no wireless after b43 with Dell Inspiron 1525 (Ubuntu 12.04)

  So I followed the instructions here http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1974006 about how to solve this issue. It worked for a bit and then stopped. After doing a modprobe I could at least see my network and click on it but it would not connect (I can always see it if I look under the listed wireless networks under VPN Connections, however). I'm thinking, from what I read at least, the issue might be that my wireless switch was on during those first steps. Do I now have to undo the b43 install and do it again? Or is there something else I could try? I just made the switch to Linux yesterday, so I am hesitant at this point to mess with anything on my own. I should note now that it was installed by someone who knows what they are doing, so we are all good on that front.

  After upgrading to ubuntu 11.10 the speed of my internet connection has considerably reduced. I surf on internet using a wireless usb adapter Digicom Wireless 11n 300m which works with rt2800usb driver. The fact is, on the installation cd there's no tracks of that driver but instead of it there is another one called rt2870 which I tried to load using ndiswraper, but it did not recognize any hardware. I'm not sure the solution of my problem is simply changing the driver, but I have no other ideas. Can anyone help me?

  I've just installed ubuntu to a notebook, deleting the windows xp that was installed before, so now nothing works I couldn't solve the problem of getting the blank screen with the versions 12.. and 10.. so now there is 9.10 installed, which works fine. Well, it boots up at least. I can't get working the drivers though. I'm totally new to linux, and I've read in some forums that in this version you have to install all of them yourself, because the system won't detect them automatically. Therefore I tried to find the drive for my wireless card, but actually I have no clue how to get it work. Could someone please help me out? • Newly installed DIR-615 - how to connect to the wireless?

  I've just installed a D-Link DIR 615, but can't figure out how to connect to the wireless.. When I double click my wireless icon in the tray, it does show the new network. Its starts the "WiFi protected setup wizard" and the first thing it asks for is the "Device Ownership Password". I have no idea what that is - I've tried the PIN and the router password. On the next page it says: SSID: _(name)__ Security type: _wpa2 personal aes ccmp_ Password: _some long key that is not what I entered during router setup_ I change the key to the one I created when setting up the router. I've also tried leaving the key as it is shown in the dialog. But it does not connect either way. All it says is "Configuration failed" So how do I connect to the new wireless network??

  In an effort to be PCI DSS compliant, I took a trustkeeper.net questionnaire. I failed the question that asks Is the presence of wireless access points tested for by using a wireless analyzer at least quarterly or by deploying a wireless IDS/IPS to identify all wireless devices in use? (SAQ #11.1) My only wireless access point is outside my firewall, so even if you cracked my wireless you couldn't get inside my domain (unless you crack that too). My firewall doesn't have IPS and I couldn't tell if it had IDS. I looked around for a wireless analyzer, but what I found was $500, which is a little pricey for my size business. And even if I got it, I'm not sure I would understand what it tells me. Surely there are smaller/less sophisticated businesses that take credit cards and have solved this. My questions are: What are the risks if someone were to crack my wireless? (Could they read all internet traffic? Just wireless traffic? Just use my internet connection?) And what is the best/cheapest way to test my connection point quarterly? Should I buy the $500 analyzer? Domain is Windows Server 2000. Firewall is Sonicwall Pro 2040. Router is 8 port D-link.

  My wife uses an old computer which doesn't really like having an internet connection via a USB wireless adapter. I've tried several, and none have been satisfactory. The connection gets dropped often and it is frustrating for her. A wireless card also had the same trouble. Repositioning the computer made no difference. (Two laptops, nearby, connect just fine and stay up, so it isn't the router.) However, the computer always worked well when I had an Ethernet cable connected to it. I know there is a box which will connect to my wireless network and provide an Ethernet cable connection. But the terminology used is so complex, I can't tell what it is I really need. In case that wasn't clear, here it is in different words: What I need is just the opposite of a wireless router. My wireless router takes my cable modem's Ethernet connection and makes it available to wireless clients. What I want is a box which is a wireless client to my wireless router and provides an Ethernet cable connection that I can connect to any device. I need to know the right name for a box with such capabilities. If you know of some inexpensive examples, that would also be helpful. I'm running a wireless G network with a Linksys Router.

  I have a Dell Precision with integrated bluetooth from work. I wanted to connect either one of my two bluetooth headsets (Plantronics UC Voyager Pro v2 and Sennheiser MM450X) in order to make calls with it using our Cisco IP Communicator. In both cases, the bluetooth pairs ok. Then Windows tries to install drivers, and fails, leaving the device useless. The devices work perfectly with my phone and tablet (both android). What can I do to get it to work? I can't seem to find drivers on either the Plantronics or the Sennheiser site. I am using the Plantronics without the USB dongle they provide, because that is temporarily misplaced :).

• Wireless connection works but the internet is too slow to use in Ubuntu 11.04

  The internet is so slow as to be unusable. And I'm not being picky. Even after minutes I can't get my Google home page to load. I tried installing a package through apt-get and was getting rates between 0 and a few hundred bytes/s. That's bytes, not kilobytes! Mostly 0 however (no exaggeration, it spends large amounts of time stalled). And I would go to a speed test web site of some kind but I can't since nothing will load. Briefly put, the laptop I am using was connected to two wireless networks while using Ubuntu 11.04 without any issues before this. It was also connected to a wired network without any issues. It dual boats Windows 7 which has never had any issues, not even with the current wireless network. Just to be clear, on the current wi-fi network, Windows 7 encounters no issues (speedtest.net puts the network speed at 1mb/s) but my network connection in Ubuntu 11.04 is so slow as to literally be unusable. I am unfamiliar with the router except for the fact that it boasts a Rogers logo (that's a large ISP/cable provider in Canada for those not familiar with the land of igloos and polar bears). I am far from the router and some desktop widget I use tells me the signal strength is at 58% (it seems fairly reliable and this would appear to match up with the filled bars in the network icon). I should also mention I'm just renting a room in this house so I'm not the network administrator and while I can access the 192.168.0.1 router page, the password wasn't set to 'password' so it's not much use to me. • Acer Aspire 3680 Wireless Signal Problem

  I am using Acer Aspire 3680. I recently reinstalled Windows Vista, and the wireless did not work by default. I installed the "Atheros Wireless LAN Driver" on this site: http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_3680.html The result, the wireless APs are successfully scanned. However, when I tried to join a network, even with 5/5 signal, an error message showed up diagnosing signal too little. I restarted as Ubuntu, and wireless worked perfectly, with same computer position. Even more confusing, When I moved to the kitchen (2 meters close to the router), the wireless connected, when I move back to my room, wireless failed on Vista and worked on Ubuntu. It is clearly the driver problem. Acer laptops seems come with pre-installed drivers, but after re-installation, they are all gone. (I can't find the original Acer backup disc) Please do not answer "move closer to the AP" and something related to "interference", as wireless worked with Ubuntu's default driver.

  Short of installing 3rd party software, does the D-Link DIR-628 run in bridged wireless? I'm trying to have the dlink hook up to an existing linksys wireless router to add more range/get stronger signal.
