• Problem calling web service from within JBOSS EJB Service

  I have a simple web service sitting on our internal network. I used SOAPUI to do a bit of testing, generated the service classes from the WSDL , and wrote some java code to access the service. All went as expected as I was able to create the service proxy classes and make calls. Pretty simple stuff. The only speed bump was getting java to trust the certificate from the machine providing the web service. That was not a technical problem, but rather my lack of experience with SSL based web services. Now onto my problem. I coded up a simple EJB service and deployed it into JBoss Application Server 4.3 and now get the following error in the code that previously worked. 12:21:50,235 WARN [ServiceDelegateImpl] Cannot access wsdlURL: https://WS-Test/TestService/v2/TestService?wsdl I can access the wsdl file from a web browser running on the same machine as the application server using the URL in the error message. I am at a loss as to where to go from here. I turned on the debug logs in JBOSS and got nothing more than what I showed above. I have done some searching on the net and found the same error in some questions, but those questions had no answers. The web services classes where generated with JAX-WS 2.2 using the wsimport ant task and placed in a jar that is included in the ejb package. JBoss is deployed in RHEL 5.4, where the standalone testing was done on Windows XP.

Just for some fun I want to restrict access to the blog. e.g. The website. www.myfriend.com opens with a splash screen. The screen has his picture and a question regarding him. these questions can be. If you know me.... What is my nickname? Whats my fav. sport? etc etc This restriction should not be based on the default user management offered by Wordpress and should involve a simple answer to a question which is randomly generated from list of questions once the visior gives a correct answer the page redirects to the blog please note even if the user types www.myfriend.com/blog they should be able to see it. this restriction is not a restriction in true sense but just involves some user interaction. • Nginx with http/https - Http seemed redirected to https all the time

  I've this really weird behaviour with my ubuntu 10.04 / nginx 1.2.3 server. Basically I changed the SSL certificates this morning. And ever since it has been behaving weirdly on all apps. Godaddy is reporting that HTTPS/SSL setup is correct. When I try a page it still works correctly when I'm using HTTPS. But when I try using HTTP nginx reports error : 400 Bad Request The plain HTTP request was sent to HTTPS port After looking around on google for hours, I've tried different setup (while originaly my setup was working correctly for longtime, I just renewed certificates) I kindof found a half solution by adding this to my config : error_page 497 $request_uri; The realllly weird thing is that when I use this setup : server { listen 80; server_name john.johnrocks.eu; access_log /home/john/envs/john_prod/nginx_access.log; error_log /home/john/envs/john_prod/nginx_error.log; location / { uwsgi_pass unix:///home/john/envs/john_prod/john.sock; include uwsgi_params; } location /media { alias /home/john/envs/john_prod/johntab/www; } location /adminmedia { alias /home/john/envs/john_prod/johntab/www/adminmedia; } } I still have the same error when using HTTP (while nothing is setup for HTTPS here)?? While working with them, many questions popped up which i could not find satisying answers when i searched for them, hence putting them here. The questions about shared libraries i have are: 1.) How is shared library different than static library? What are the Key differences in way they are created, they execute? 2.) In case of a shared library at what point are the addresses where a particular function in shared library will be loaded and run from, given? Who gives those functions is load/run addresses? 3.) Will an application linked against shared library be slower in execution as compared to that which is linked with a static library? 4.) Will application executable size differ in these two cases? 5.) Can one do source level debugging of by stepping into functions defined inside a shared library? Is any thing extra needed to make these functions visible to the application? 6.)   Hi, I have a few quick questions about the Microsoft Detours Library. I have used it before (successfully), but I just had a thought about this function: LONG DetourUpdateThread(HANDLE hThread); I read elsewhere that this function will actually suspend the thread until the transaction completes. This seems odd since most sample code calls: DetourUpdateThread(GetCurrentThread()); Anyway, apparently this function "enlists" threads so that, when the transaction commits (and the detours are made), their instruction pointers are modified if they lie "within the rewritten code in either the target function or the trampoline function." My questions are: When the transaction commits, is the current thread's instruction pointer going to be within the DetourTransactionCommit function? If so, why should we bother enlisting it to be updated? Also, if the enlisted threads are suspended, how can the current thread continue executing (given that most sample code calls DetourUpdateThread(GetCurrentThread());)? Finally, could you suspend all threads for the current process, avoiding race conditions (considering that threads could be getting created and destroyed at any time)? Perhaps this is done when the transaction begins? This would allow us to enumerate threads more safely (as it seems less likely that new threads could be created), although what about CreateRemoteThread()?   Hi. I'm having trouble deserializing a ruby class that I wrote to YAML. Where I want to be I want to be able to pass one object around as a full 'question' which includes the question text, some possible answers (For multi. choice) and the correct answer. One module (The encoder) takes input, builds a 'question' class out of it and appends it to the question pool. Another module reads a question pool and builds an array of 'question' objects. Where I am currently Sample Question Pool --- | --- !ruby/object:MultiQ a: "no" answer: "no" b: "no" c: "no" d: "no" text: "yes?" Encoder dump to YAML file. Object is a MultiQ filled up with input. • SimpleModal -- Open OnLoad

  I'm new to JQuery -- not new to javascript. Was able to open the OSX STYLE DIALOG using the hyperlink button provided in the demo index.html page, but would like to open it on the page load. I read a couple links on StackOverflow (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1611727/how-do-i-invoke-a-simplemodal-osx-dialog-on-page-load), but still could not get it to work in the exact same index.html page. I finally resorted to a stopgap measure by programmatically invoking the button click of a hidden button element -- see following fragment: onLoad="document.getElementById('load_OSX_Example').click();"> <input type="hidden" id="load_OSX_Example" value="" class='osx'> <script type="text/javascript" language="javascript"> //#### open the OSX Modal ########## $(document).ready(function(){ $("#osx-modal-content").modal(); }); </script> So I have two questions: How can you invoke the class='osx' using javascript/html programmatically? Why won't this work using the $("#osx-modal-content").modal(); call in javascript (see fragment above)? I tried this in multiple browsers, and the only content that displayed on the screen was content of this tag: "div id="osx-modal-title", and there was no error in the jscript console.

• SQL Server Multi-statement UDF - way to store data temporarily required

  Hello, I have a relatively complex query, with several self joins, which works on a rather large table. For that query to perform faster, I thus need to only work with a subset of the data. Said subset of data can range between 12 000 and 120 000 rows depending on the parameters passed. More details can be found here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3054843/sql-server-cte-referred-in-self-joins-slow As you can see, I was using a CTE to return the data subset before, which caused some performance problems as SQL Server was re-running the Select statement in the CTE for every join instead of simply being run once and reusing its data set. The alternative, using temporary tables worked much faster (while testing the query in a separate window outside the UDF body). However, when I tried to implement this in a multi-statement UDF, I was harshly reminded by SQL Server that multi-statement UDFs do not support temporary tables for some reason... UDFs do allow table variables however, so I tried that, but the performance is absolutely horrible as it takes 1m40 for my query to complete whereas the the CTE version only took 40minutes. I believe the table variables is slow for reasons listed in this thread: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1643687/table-variable-poor-performance-on-insert-in-sql-server-stored-procedure Temporary table version takes around 1 seconds, but I can't make it into a function due to the SQL Server restrictions, and I have to return a table back to the caller. Considering that CTE and table variables are both too slow, and that temporary tables are rejected in UDFs, What are my options in order for my UDF to perform quickly? Thanks a lot in advance.

• Prevent Win7 from resuming from hibernation

  Hi Guys, I am running Win7 x64 on my machine and everything is perfect. I actually never turn off my PC completely but rather I always put it into hibernation mode for fast resume once I get back. Hibernation works like a charm, but once every 50 or 100 hibernations something goes wrong and the machine reboots. After that I usually have to reset the system clock in BIOS and Windows is starting up from the hibernation image that somehow got saved to disk (that's really cool). But: This hibernation image recovery is awfully slow, once the machine is up again it takes almost 2 minutes for it to not feel sluggish any more (I suspect this is due to pagefaults on all memory access). I'm looking for a way to tell Windows to NOT recover from the crash but rather just boot fresh, discarding the hibernation since it's faster to just reboot rather than wait for 3+ minutes for the machine to get it's act together. I do see the normal bios startup and also the windows boot afterwards, but hitting F8 like crazy doesn't do anything. In Win2000 and XP a Menu would come up asking me how I do want to boot, but I can't find it on Win7. Thanks in advance!

Thats the weird part. Out of the 100 times I've logged in and out - I've experienced this problem 5-6 times and 2 of my beta test users have reported the same issue. So when it works- if u click the logout link - u get the facebook popup saying - you being logged out - when it does'nt work - absolutely nothing happens - the page does not refresh - it just sits on that page doing nothing. • How to have SSL on Amazon Elastic Load Balancer with a Gunicorn EC2 server?

  I'm a self taught back end engineer so I'm learning all of this stuff as I go along. For the longest time, I've been using basic authentication for my users. Many developers are advising against this approach since each request will contain the username & password in clear text. Anyone with the right skills can sniff on the connection between my iOS application and my Django/Gunicorn Server and obtain their password. I wouldn't want to put my user's credentials at risk so I would like to implement a more secure way of authentication. SSL seems to be the most viable option. My server doesn't serve any static content or anything crazy of that sort. All the server does is send and receive "json" responses from and to my iOS application. Here is my current topology. iOS application ------ Amazon Elastic Load Balancer ------- EC2 Instances running HTTP Gunicorn. Gunicorn runs on port 8000. I have a CNAME record from GoDaddy for the Amazon Elastic Load Balancer DNS. So instead of using the long DNS to make requests, I just use server.example.com. To interact with my servers I send and receive requests to server.example.com:8000/ This setup works and has been solid. However I need to have a more secure way. I would like to setup SSL between my iOS application and my Elastic Load Balancer. How can I go about doing this? Since I am only sending json responses to my application, do I really need to buy a certificate from a CA or can I create my own? (since browsers will not be interacting with my servers. My servers are only designed to send json responses to my iOS application).

• Extracting email addresses in an html block in ruby/rails

  I am creating a parser that wards off against spamming and harvesting of emails from a block of text that comes from tinyMCE (so it may or may not have html tags in it) I've tried regexes and so far this has been successful: /\b[A-Z0-9._%+-]+@[A-Z0-9.-]+\.[A-Z]{2,4}\b/i problem is, i need to ignore all email addresses with mailto hrefs. for example: <a href="mailto:[email protected]">[email protected]</a> should only return the second email add. To get a background of what im doing, im reversing the email addresses in a block so the above example would look like this: <a href="mailto:[email protected]">moc.liam@tset</a> problem with my current regex is that it also replaces the one in href. Is there a way for me to do this with a single regex? Or do i have to check for one then the other? Is there a way for me to do this just by using gsub or do I have to use some nokogiri/hpricot magicks and whatnot to parse the mailtos? Thanks in advance! • Is there a library that can decompile a method into an Expression tree, with support for CLR 4.0?

  Previous questions have asked if it is possible to turn compiled delegates into expression trees, for example: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/767733/converting-a-net-funct-to-a-net-expressionfunct The sane answers at the time were: It's possible, but very hard and there's no standard library solution. Use Reflector! But fortunately there are some greatly-insane/insanely-great people out there who like reverse engineering things, and they make difficult things easy for the rest of us. Clearly it is possible to decompile IL to C#, as Reflector does it, and so you could in principle instead target CLR 4.0 expression trees with support for all statement types. This is interesting because it wouldn't matter if the compiler's built-in special support for Expression<> lambdas is never extended to support building statement expression trees in the compiler. A library solution could fill the gap. We would then have a high-level starting point for writing aspect-like manipulations of code without having to mess with raw IL. As noted in the answers to the above linked question, there are some promising signs but I haven't succeeded in finding if there's been much progress since by searching. So has anyone finished this job, or got very far with it? Note: CLR 4.0 is now released. Time for another look-see.

  I'm attempting to use a wordpress plugin called WP Fast Cache which creates static html files from all your posts, pages and categories. It creates the following directory structure inside wp-content: wp_fast_cache example.com pagename index.html categoryname postname index.html basically just a nested directory structure and a final index.html for each item. And not the Wordpress 404, and janky apache 404. • What's the best way to read a UDT from a database with Java?

  I thought I knew everything about UDTs and JDBC until someone on SO pointed out some details of the Javadoc of java.sql.SQLInput and java.sql.SQLData JavaDoc to me. The essence of that hint was (from SQLInput): An input stream that contains a stream of values representing an instance of an SQL structured type or an SQL distinct type. This interface, used only for custom mapping, is used by the driver behind the scenes, and a programmer never directly invokes SQLInput methods. This is quite the opposite of what I am used to do (which is also used and stable in productive systems, when used with the Oracle JDBC driver): Implement SQLData and provide this implementation in a custom mapping to ResultSet.getObject(int index, Map mapping) The JDBC driver will then call-back on my custom type using the SQLData.readSQL(SQLInput stream, String typeName) method. I implement this method and read each field from the SQLInput stream. In the end, getObject() will return a correctly initialised instance of my SQLData implementation holding all data from the UDT. To me, this seems like the perfect way to implement such a custom mapping. Good reasons for going this way: I can use the standard API, instead of using vendor-specific classes such as oracle.sql.STRUCT, etc. I can generate source code from my UDTs, with appropriate getters/setters and other properties My questions: What do you think about my approach, implementing SQLData? Is it viable, even if the Javadoc states otherwise? What other ways of reading UDT's in Java do you know of? E.g. what does Spring do? what does Hibernate do? What does JPA do? What do you do? Addendum: UDT support and integration with stored procedures is one of the major features of jOOQ. jOOQ aims at hiding the more complex "JDBC facts" from client code, without hiding the underlying database architecture. If you have similar questions like the above, jOOQ might provide an answer to you.

• How should I start playing with 3D

  I'm a developer for just about 6 months now, and since I enjoy programming I make a couple of little programs. I've started making encripters, calculators, tools, stuff to play with DropBox (hehe), stuff that play with bitmaps, drawing graphics, and even a program to update the MSN display image according to the artwork of the music you're listening yo on iTunes. Now I kind of ran off ideas of programs to deal with information, and I've had an idea: play around with 3d! so I've read a little about it and figured I'd have to have good notions on position and math on point spacial position (which I do, from my 3d modelling experience), but I don't know how to use API's for it, so I've 'simulated' simple 3d with a simple program I've made (it's just a spinning cube, please, first one to open it, comment here stating that it's safe, i've got no reason to harm anyone's pc.) One of my other hobbies is 3d modelling (completly amateur) and I'd like to mix these hobbies together! Here are some questions: 1) What would be a nice 3d development tool for a .NET programmer like me? 2) Is there a way of using 3d models made in 3DS Max ? (I intend on modelling characters) 3) What knowledges should I have in order to render it, and move it areound ? 4) Which API should I use ? NOTE: Not a dupe, I'm asking for directions specific for .NET development possibly using 3ds MAX, and there are no questions about it!

The program was invoked with these options: /usr/bin/rsnapshot hourly ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ERROR: Lockfile /var/run/rsnapshot.pid exists and so does its process, can not continue To me it seems like my 5 min space between halfhourly and hourly is too small. Is this configuration crazy? I like having backups every thirty minutes, that will probably save my ass some day. Please help me make a decent backup schedule, that doesn't clog up the system, but creates frequent enough backups. Thank you.

• KVM and JBoss Java Application Server

  We have a large Xen deployment running on both RHEL and CentOS and have recently started looking at KVM since this is where it looks like the future of VM's are on Linux. We can load the server and get everything running without an issue. However when we load up a new one with JBoss (4.2 Community edition, Sun JDK 6) and load a large EAR the server goes a little crazy. The %sy will jump to 80-99% and just hang for large periods of time we see a similar jump in %us on the host machine. We though at first this might be I/O as it seems to happen at start of JBoss but then would "cool down" after everything got loaded. We did some tests by extracting some large tar.gz files and using jar -xvf on the ear but could not re-create. Then we starting thinking this might be some type of memory access issues. We loaded a c-program that would generate a lot of memory activity and sure enough we saw the spikes again. Not as high mind you but we did see it jump. We then wrote a small java program to do the same thing and sure enough we saw it jump again. Any thoughts on what might be causing this? Is this just the way KVM works? As a side note we do NOT see this behavior on any other setup. Xen, VMWare and/or native iron. The system does seem a bit slower than our Xen / VMware ones.

• How large a role does subjectiveness play in programming?

  I often read about the importance of readability and maintainability. Or, I read very strong opinions about which syntax features are bad or good. Or discussions about the values of certain paradigms, like OOP. Aside from that, this same question floats about in my mind whenever I read debates on SO or Meta about subjective questions. Or read questions about best practices and sometimes find myself or others disagreeing. What role does subjectiveness play within the programming realm? Sometimes I think it plays a large role. Software developers are engineers in a way, but also people. A large part of programming is dealing with code that's human readable. This is very different from Math or Physics or other disciplines with very exact and structured rules. Here the exact structure and rules are largely up in the air, changeable on a whim, and hence the amount of languages in existence. And one person may find one language very readable, and another person may find their own language the most comforting. The same with practices. One person may not like certain accepted practices. I myself find splitting classes into different files very unreadable, for instance. But, I can't say rules haven't helped in general. Certain practices have and do make life easier. And new languages have given rise to syntax and structure that make life easier. There's certainly been a progression towards code that is easier to read and maintain even given a largely diverse group of people. So maybe these things aren't as subjective as I thought. It reminds me, in a way, of UI design. Certainly it's subjective, but then there's an entire discipline involved in crafting good UI and it tends to work. Is there something non-subjective about the ideas behind maintainability, readability, and other best practices? Is there something tangible to grasp when one develops a new language or thinks of new practices?

• Java: how to debug an invalid JSTL declaration?

  I've seen this kind of issue on SO (and on the Net overall) quite a few times. For example here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1884529 Earlier today I was trying on a JSP (regular .jsp, not .jspx) to do this, because I stupidly cut/pasted some example found on the net: <%@ taglib prefix = "c" uri = "http://java.sun.com/jstl/core"%> Then my .jsp was giving a blank page. No error message in the Tomcat log. No nothing. Just a blank page. While, of course (I'm being sarcastic here), the correct line was this: <%@ taglib prefix = "c" uri = "http://java.sun.com/jsp/jstl/core"%> There was a "jsp/" missing (which I found a hint to in yet another SO question). So obviously such issues are common. I can't believe you have to wait for things "not to work" to know you've there's an error and I'm honestly a bit confuzzabled by the number of questions found on the net (and here on SO) where the answer is basically "fix your declaration". My question here is simple: how do you know that it's a declaration issue? What thought process is required here to diagnose and troubleshoot such issues? Are there tools that can help here? (I don't know, like, say, IntelliJ IDEA or Eclipse or Emacs in nxml-mode warning you in real time that the declared URI is invalid?)

(A quick google search brings up "Creedence Clearwater Revival" as the top result!) Some of the resources I have found: Free e-book chapter from WROX on the Robotics Developer Studio Good Article/post on InfoQ Robotic's Member blog Very active MSDN CCR Forum - Got plenty of help from here! Great MSDN Magazine by Jeffrey Richter Official CCR User Guide - Didn't find this very helpful Great blogging series on CCR iodyner CCR Related Blog - Update: Moved to here Eight or so Videos on Channel9.msdn.com CCR Patterns page on MS Robotics Studio - I haven't read this yet 4 x CCR Questions on Stackoverflow - Most of the questions have been Mine! LOL CCR and DSS toolkit has now been released to MSDN Members Do you have any good learning resources for the CCR? I really hope that Microsoft will publish more material, so far it has been too Robotics specific. I believe that MS needs to acknowledge that most people are using the CCR in issolation from the DSS and Robotics Studio. Update The Mix 2010 conference had a presentation by Myspace about how they have used the CCR framework in their middle tier. They also open sourced the code base. • Dell Dimension 8400 Startup error

  Hello all, thanks first for taking the time to read this and possibly help me...... now I am pretty decent of a computer tech...but not enough. I am having an issue with my computer which is running windows xp and as I mentioned it is a dell Dimension 8400. as soon as I power the system up the fan goes into hyper drive (spins like crazy and is very loud) then the start up screen with dell comes up and the loading bar gets stuck on the process of "Bios Revision A00" and never loads beyound that. I have read alot about it and think that the main problem was that it can not locate the file (which does have an updated version) I think it is A09. I can not enter safe mode, Bios mode or anything. I do have the file on my other computer and I was wondering if there is a way that I can use a usb flash drive (as I have read on other sites) to create a bootable MS-Dos diskette but I am failing at creating as such....is this possible? or is there anything else I can do? I tried to remove the battery from the system for about 10 minutes while it was completely unplug and tried then to reboot it and go into the bios menu but the same thing keeps happening....can anyone help me :-(
