Hadoop safemode recovery - taking lot of time

Hi, We are running our cluster on Amazon EC2. we are using cloudera scripts to setup hadoop. On the master node, we start below services. 609 $AS_HADOOP '"$HADOOP_HOME"/bin/hadoop-daemon.sh start namenode' 610 $AS_HADOOP '"$HADOOP_HOME"/bin/hadoop-daemon.sh start secondarynamenode' 611 $AS_HADOOP '"$HADOOP_HOME"/bin/hadoop-daemon.sh start jobtracker' 612 613 $AS_HADOOP '"$HADOOP_HOME"/bin/hadoop dfsadmin -safemode wait' On the slave machine, we run the below services. 625 $AS_HADOOP '"$HADOOP_HOME"/bin/hadoop-daemon.sh start datanode' 626 $AS_HADOOP '"$HADOOP_HOME"/bin/hadoop-daemon.sh start tasktracker' The main problem we are facing is, hdfs safemode recovery is taking more than an hour and this is causing delays in our job completion. Below are the main log messages. 1. domU-12-31-39-0A-34-61.compute-1.internal 10/05/05 20:44:19 INFO ipc.Client: Retrying connect to server: ec2-184-73-64-64.compute-1.amazonaws.com/10.192.11.240:8020. Already tried 21 time(s). 2. The reported blocks 283634 needs additional 322258 blocks to reach the threshold 0.9990 of total blocks 606499. Safe mode will be turned off automatically. The first message is thrown in task trackers log because, job tracker is not started. job tracker didn't start because of hdfs safemode recovery. The second message is thrown during the recovery process. Is there something I am doing wrong? How much time does normal hdfs safemode recovery takes? Will there be any speedup, by not starting task trackers till job tracker is started? Are there any known hadoop problems on amazon cluster? Thanks for your help. Regards Bala Mudiam

Exchange 2010 add mailbox server to DAG error

Hello, i'm having some problems when adding a second mailbox server to my DAG in Exchange 2010. The test setup goes like this: 1x windows server 2008 (DC/DNS) 2x windows server 2008 (Exchange 2010) I have made sure all services are up and running and that the "Exchange Trusted Subsystem" account is set as a local admin. When i create a DAG i can add the first mailbox server (A) without any problems, but when i go to add the second (B) it gives me an error saying "Unable to contact the Cluster service on 1 other members (member) of the Database availability group. It does the same if i add (B) first and then try to add (A). Here is a part of the log file: [2010-04-05T15:00:27] GetRemoteCluster() for the mailbox server failed with exception = An Active Manager operation failed. Convert Custom Firefox Setup to Firefox Portable?

I have a pretty awesome firefox set up and spent a lot of time getting it perfect. Is there any way that anyone knows about to convert the entire configuration to portable? Programs like MozBackup are great for backing up the complete set up, but you can't restore a Firefox profile to Firefox portable (maybe there is a workaround to fake it out? or possibly another method?) In case anyone is interested here is the gist of the best add-ons I've found: Autopager (scroll down google and other multi page results without clicking next) Coral IE Tab (IE in firefox - in case a website 'insists' that you use IE) Cyber search (search google straight from the address bar - VERY HELPFUL) Download StatusBar (display progress of downloads in the bottom of ff - no annoying popups FireFTP (erases need for an external FTP client - opens in a tab) Gmail manager (if you use multiple gmail accounts) Session Manager (saving multiple sessions of tabs - ff session recover) Surf Canyon (pull relevant stuff out of the depths of search results - even from craigslist Tab Mix Plus (ESSENTIAL - tab behavior customization - have multiple rows of tabs I also have it set up so you can type 'g test' in the address bar and ff will pull up the google results for 'test'. Similarly have it set up for guitar tabs (tab), facebook (f), wikipedia (w), google maps from my house (gmhome), torrents (tor), ticketmaster (t), rotten tomatoes (rt), craiglist (c) plus about 20 other sites.

Having trouble using psservice and sc.exe between Windows Server 2008 machines

I'm trying to control services on one W2k8 machine from another; no domain just a workgroup. The user account I'm logged in as is an administrator on both machines. I've tried both psservice and sc.exe. These work in a Windows Server 2003 environment but it looks like I need to an extra step or two due to the changed security model in 2008. Any ideas as to how grant permission to the Service Control Manager (psservice) or OpenService (sc)? I tried running the DOS window with "Run As Administrator" and it made no difference. How do I host node.js apps with pm2 without running them as root?

I have setup pm2 to run a node.js application, and I can successfully start it and it will resurrect upon reboot. However, the pm2 daemon is ran as root, which makes me think that all my node-scripts also runs as root? Even though I added them as a regular user in the system. VMRC was the client tool used to connect to virtual machines running on Virtual Server. Upgrading to Windows Server 2008 R2 with the Hyper-V role, i need a way for people to be able to use the virtual machines. Note: not all virtual machines will have network connectivity not all virtual machines will be running Windows some people needing to connect to a virtual machine will be running Windows XP Hyper-V manager, allowing management of the hyper-v server, is less desirable (since it allows management of the hyper-v server (and doesn't work on all operating systems)) What is the Windows Server 2008 R2 equivalent of VMRC; to "vnc" to a virtual server? Update: i think Tatas was suggesting Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager Self-Service Portal 2.0 (?): Which requires SQL Server IIS Installing those would unfortunately violate our Windows Server 2008 R2 license. i might be looking at the wrong product link, since commenter said there is a version that doesn't require "System Center". This is why i'm weary about installing IIS or SQL Server.

Cannot run "Automation Anywhere" exe files from console (session 0) on Windows Server 2003 64 bit

I have a simple exe created from an Automation Anywhere task that displays a message box saying hello world. I created this simple exe just for debugging the following issue. When I log in to the console (session 0), and run the Automation Anywhere created executable, it starts to run the task, it shows up in the applications and processes list in the task manager and it shows the two "loading..." windows briefly on the screen, just like normal. But after that, nothing happens... the "hello world" message does not show up. The exe is done and is removed from the application and process list in the task manager. The user I am logged in as, has admin rights and the machine uses "autologin" to automatically log in using this profile when it starts up. If I right click on the exe and "run as" another admin user, the exe runs properly, showing the "hello world" message. Also, if I log into the server in a new session, with the original user (the one that has the problems in session 0), and then run the exe, it runs properly and shows the "hello world". It works fine in any session other than the console session. There is something about the console session that is causing the exe not to run properly... even though it does appear to start running the exe. I should also mention that everything was working fine until Monday at midnight, after which none of the executables could be run successfully. Nothing was changed on the server and no updates were installed. I have since installed windows updates, but that didn't change anything. Looking for some advice on how to get these executables working in the console session again. Thanks!

Adding data sources for unixODBC/isql on Mac OSX Lion

I have installed unixODBC from source and mysql-odbc connector from .dmg installer on Mac OSX Lion. This was done a while ago, and at that time I successfully installed a data source (let's call it foo). Now I am trying to add another data source (DSN). I've done this through both ODBC Manager and the command-line tool myodbc-installer given with the tar bundle of the mysql-odbc connector from the mysql website. An entry shows up in /Library/ODBC/odbc.ini, which looks like this: [ODBC Data Sources] bar = MySQL ODBC 5.1 Driver [ODBC] Trace = 0 TraceAutoStop = 0 TraceFile = TraceLibrary = [myodbc] Driver = /usr/local/lib/libmyodbc5.so SERVER = localhost PORT = 3306 [bar] Driver = /usr/local/lib/libmyodbc5.so Description = DATABASE = bar However, isql fails to find it: anitya:Preferences neil$ isql bar bar bar -v [IM002][unixODBC][Driver Manager]Data source name not found, and no default driver specified [ISQL]ERROR: Could not SQLConnect Weird thing is, the old DSN foo, which is not to be seen in /Library/ODBC/odbc.ini or /etc/odbc.ini, works fine: anitya:Preferences neil$ isql foo foo foo +---------------------------------------+ | Connected! | | | | sql-statement | | help [tablename] | | quit | | | +---------------------------------------+ SQL> I'm miffed about where the DSN entries need to be entered on OSX Lion to be found by isql. Web based KVM management for Ubuntu

Hey all, We've got a single Ubuntu 9.10 root server on which we want to run multiple KVM virtual machines. To administer these virtual machines I'd like a web based KVM management tool, but I don't know which one to choose from the list of tools mentioned on linux-kvm.org. I've used virsh & virt-manager on my desktop, but would like a web interface for the server. I tested ConVirt on my desktop, but it failed to pickup KVM machines from virsh / virt-manager, and I could not get KVM virtual machine import to work (only Xen). oVirt looks good, but I can't find out if and how I can install it on Ubuntu 9.10.. (And I'd really rather not waste another few days on testing stuff that might not work in the end.) Can anyone recommend any good web based KVM management tools that are easy to install on Ubuntu 9.10? I'm looking for something that will also allow me to run other services like apache and postgresql besides hosting virtual machines, so preferably fairly lightweight & no dedicated OS installs. We don't need any professional clustering / migration or anything, just something that will let us create, start, inspect, administer & stop virtual machines from a web page. Best regards, Tim

How to repair multiple KDC an Netlogon errors

Howdy, I have several erros in the system event log of my single Windows 2003 SP2 domain controller. Multiple member computers on the domain are listed in these errors. I am seeing two similar errors for each computer one second apart in the event log. Event ID 7 Source KDC The Security Account Manager failed a KDC request in an unexpected way. The error is in the data field. The account name was [email protected] and lookup type 0x8. followed by Event ID 7 Source KDC The Security Account Manager failed a KDC request in an unexpected way. The error is in the data field. The account name was MEMBERNAME$ and lookup type 0x8. The Lookup Types are also different, I have 0x8, 0x28, 0x0, 0x20. I am also receiving other authentication errors in the same time frame as all of the KDC errors Event ID 5722 Source NETLOGON The session setup from the computer MEMBERNAME failed to authenticate. The name(s) of the account(s) referenced in the security database is MEMBERNAME$. The following error occurred: Access is denied. I have run dcdiag /v to see if there was something wrong with Active Directory, but all tests passed. I also ran netdiag /v and it appers all of those tests ran. Any ideas on where to start for this issue? Thank you, Keith

SQL Server 2008 Express + Reporting Services on Windows 7

I'm trying to install SQL Server Express 2008 and Reporting Services on a x64 Windows 7 Machine for development purposes. I've installed SQL Server 2008 Express with the Microsoft Web Platform Installer I had to manually enable the SQL Server Browser in the Sql Server Configuration Manager and tried to enable the SQL Server Agent but that simply doesn't work. Keeps throwing an RPC error: "The remote procedure call failed. [0x800706be]". The start mode is set to Disabled and I cannot change it. Even though I selected the SQL Server Express with advanced services in the web platform installer I could not find any reference to SQL Server Reporting Services so I used the SQL Server Installation Center x64 application to "upgrade" to SQL Server Express 2008 with advanced services... this installed many things but still I couldn't find any reference to SQL Server Reporting Services other than an application called: "Reporting Services Configuration Manager" This opens up a dialog called "Reporting Services Configuration Connection" which is asking for a server name (shows the name of my machine) and a Find button. When I click the find button I get: "Unable to connect to the Reporting Server WMI provider. Details: Invalid Namespace". I found some references on the web to solve this problem, but they refer to a directory: "%ProgamFiles%\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS10.SQL2008\Reporting Services\" which does not exist anywhere on my system. (The directories for SQL Server are there, but there is no Reporting Services directory anywhere). What am I doing wrong here? Wasn't the web platform installer supposed to handle all this? Thnx for any advice. PS: Most google results refer to 2005 vs 2008 problems, but I never had 2005 installed on this system, it's a newly installed development machine.

But Missing taskbar buttons on taskbar. I've already repair windows by "second R". But still missing taskbar buttons. If I reinstall windows, then I will lost all software program install on that windows XP. I don't want to reinstall all software program after windows installation. Using the RST3 plugin in the Leo Outliner

I'm currently trying out the Leo Outliner, and I've heard quite a bit about the RST3 plugin that it has. I'm not planning to use Leo to program just yet -- at this point I'm wondering if it might be useful for generating HTML and PDF documents, as I'm quite currently enamored with RST and how it works. I'm using my Ubuntu Netbook Remix netbook (running 9.10, I believe). I think I've got it down pat, more or less -- I've installed docutils using the Synaptics Package Manager, and I think I've gotten SilverCity installed, as per the requirements -- I've downloaded the archive, and then run "sudo python setup.py install" with no errors. The thing is, I'm not exactly sure how to invoke the rst3 plugin itself. It doesn't appear in the Plugins menu for Leo right now, and the documentation I've managed to source doesn't seem to clearly explain how to use the plugin. Has anyone had any experience in using the rst3 plugin in Leo? It's a little confusing right now, and searches on Google doesn't seem to be helping much any more. I'm using the latest 4.7.1 final version of Leo from the Synaptics Package Manager (was informed that this would have offered the best integration with UNR, so I figured, what the heck). Have I missed out on any steps here, and are there any useful tutorials on how to use the rst3 plugin?

How to stop Excel 2003 from loading a Gazillion files

One of my soon-to-be-ex-friends got an Excel file from another friend of his and decided to click on it. It started opening all kinds of files from within Excel. Over 200 and still counting when he called me. I told him to go to task manager, which showed a LOT of files in the applications tab, but only one Excel.exe in the processes tab. Closing it down there, closed down Excel. I then CrossLooped in to see if I could give him a helping hand. Each time Excel was re-opened, the mass influx of files started. They were all kinds of files, PDFs, Docs, JPGs, even some spreadsheets. It looked like the end of solitaire, with multiple windows opening (XP) and the counter on the lone Excel button on the task bar counting off the files. I did the task manager exit routine and went looking for temp files. I CrapCleaned out the system. Made sure I went through the files created in the last hour and deleted anything with a temp anywhere in it. I also deleted the crappy infected/corrupted file from it's place on the desktop (yeah, I know, I yelled for 15 minutes on THAT subject). Despite a delousing, the restart of Excel, which complained of a deactivated add-in, would start the cascading windows, whether I answered yes or no to that question. Yes, it knew it had a serious crash, but why would it just keep on trying to load the bad file, even when I got rid of it? But here's the real question. WHERE was it loading from? I went through the backup folder and NOTHING was there! So what's the process for starting Excel WITHOUT it trying to do a crash recovery? Sort of makes me feel stupid at times. Grant access for users on a separate domain to SharePoint

Hello. I just completed development of a SharePoint site on a virtual server and am currently in the process of granting users from a different domain to the site. The SharePoint domain is SHAREPOINT, and the domain with the users I want to give access to is COMPANY. I have provided them with a link to the site and added them as users via SharePoint, which is all I thought I would need to do. However, when they go to the link, the site shows them a SharePoint error page. kvm works only when kvm-intel is unloaded

I am new to kvm. I have this strange issue. But before explaining the issue, here is my set up. I try to install VM on my Host which is a Acer Laptop 5720 Has T7500 Intel processor. The cpu flags indicate that Virtualization is supported. I run Ubuntu 10.04 (lucid) on it. It comes with kvm. Now coming to the issue - I dont get any errors while executing "sudo modprobe kvm-intel". So I presume my processor does indeed support hardware virtualization. I use virt-manager and create a VM on which I install ubuntu from an *.iso file. When I start the VM it says it is running. No signs of any trouble. I can see the domain list in "virsh list". But when I try to connect to the VM thru VNC, all I get to see is a blank screen (no cursor). There is no response to any key press. I changed the video mode etc. Tried all different combinations but none work. But strangely, if I shutdown the vm an virt-manager and then unload the module by doing "sudo modprove -r kvm-intel", everything works fine. ie., I can see the screen via VNC. I am able to install the OS and so on. So what does this mean ? IS hardware virtualization not supported ? How come there is no error anywhere ? dmesg | grep kvm doesnt report anything. Can someone throw light on what excatly is happening ?

SQL Server Management Studio not scripting all objects

i've been attempting to script a database using SQL Server 2005 Management Studio. i cannot get it to script some objects. It scripts others, but skips some. i can provide detailed screen shots the options being selected including all tables the folder where the script files will go the folder being empty before scripting the scripting process saying Sucess when scripting a table the destination folder no longer empty, with a hundred or so script files the script of some tables not being in the folder. And earlier SSMS would not script some views. Is this a known thing that the the Generate Scripts task does not generate scripts? Update Known issue on Microsoft Connect, but Microsoft couldn't repro the steps, so they closed closed the ticket. Fails on SQL Server 2005, also fails on SQL Server 2008. SQL Server Enterprise Manager can script the objects fine. Update Three They fail no matter what version of SQL Server you script against. How can I set my bootloader to load my primary (C:) partition?

I created 4 partitions and want to use them to have seperate Windows XP, Windows 7, (possibly) Windows Vista installations, and "WinDummy" (to test applications in Vista, XP or another OS). I used Norton Ghost to install an OS to the drive in about 3 minutes. My problem is that I installed the spare first on the 4th partition, then Windows 7 on the second. I tried to set the bootloader (with easybcd) to use the first partition - but it doesn't want to. Heres my debug screen on easybcd As you can see, the device is set to H and i cant figure out how to change it. I can make my bootloader use Windows 7 first, but I can't make it use my C: install of XP instead of my spare H:. How would I fix this? P2v options within a hyper-v environment.

I have a server that san boots that I want to p2v. I have many options disk2vhd, scvmm etc but I was thinking about cloning the lun (flexclone, netapp) presenting it to my hyper-v r2 server. Within the hv manager do a create new disk then have it copy the cloned lun to a vhd file. Then do the bcdedit\bootsect stuff to it. Should work right? I'm also curious if anybodys booting vhd's that are on bootable luns? I've booted native vhd's just fine was just curious about the running them off a bootable lun. I think that this has quite a few advantages like instant p2v etc.. any thoughts on this? hmm dang as I was typing this I realized that I should not use the hv manager new disk copy routine, I should just disk2vhd the mounted lun. This has advantages in that it should be a lot faster!! discovered that disk2vhd may be flaky, crashed the first time I ran it! thanks

Oracle with Kerberos authentication and Windows 2003 Server as KDC

I am running Oracle 10.2 on a Windows 2003 Server SP2 which is also the domain controller on the network. I wish to switch authentication method from NTS to Kerberos. I have spent a lot of time trying to configure Oracle with Kerberos authentication from the Oracle Advanced Security option from the Net Manager utility. I have disabled NTS so Kerberos is promoted as the preferred authentication method. But as soon as the configuration is saved from Net Manager and I restart the Oracle server service, Oracle will not start. I don't know what Oracle is complaining about, because I don't know where to look for the Oracle error log. My first question is: how can I figure out what's bugging Oracle? My second question: is there a good tutorial for setting up Oracle on a Windows 2003 with Kerberos Authentication, where the Windows 2003 Server is the KDC? Maybe there is a book I can get? I have read Oracles own guide, but it is mostly for Linux/Unix. Thanks a lot!

How does the EFI partition work and can I boot an x86 OS with a bootx64.efi file?

I have a Thinkpad X230 laptop and I want to install Linux Mint Debian Edition along side Windows 7 on my GPT formatted SSD with the BIOS in UEFI mode. The problem is that I don't understand how EFI booting works. There seems to be an EFI partition involved with some folders and binary files in it. GRUB 2 seems to be able to make more folders in it (I followed this guide http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/UEFI_Firmware), but it appears that the only file that does anything is the bootx64.efi file in the /efi/boot folder of the EFI partition (I am not sure if this is always the case, but it appears to be the case for my laptop http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Category:X220). Here is what I have been able to do: I can install Linux Mint Debian Edition x86 with the BIOS in BIOS mode on my SSD. I can then install grub-efi and follow the guide linked above. The problem is that I don't get a GRUB prompt when I switch the BIOS to UEFI mode. It just boots Windows. It appears that I can either boot from the SSD or something called "Windows Boot Manager". If I replace the bootx64.efi with the file created by GRUB, I can no longer boot directly from the SSD. Booting from "Windows Boot Manager" still works fine. I realize that the guide says to use x64 Linux, but Linux Mint Debian Edition x64 hangs during the install process. I am really confused. What should I do? Can anyone explain how the EFI boot partition works? Can a bootx64.efi boot an x86 OS? Should I just give up with using UEFI? I haven't been able to find very much useful information about using Debian based operating systems with UEFI. Thanks, Ian

Lost partition after restarting

I have Window 7 Professional Service pack installed in my Laptop Lenovo Thinkpad t420. After formatting the disk, and install Window 7 (detailed as above), I went to Computer -- Manager -- Storage -- Disk Management to split my 300gb C partition into 2 partition: C (which is 162gb) E (which is 140gb) Is work fine for about 2 days. Today, when I turn on my computer, I'm very suprise that the E partition is disappear. I can surely confirm that I didn't do any stupid thing yesterday. And before I shut down my computer, everything was fine. In general, here is what I did during the last today (from the point that I formatted the disk, and installed Window) Format 300gb hard disk Install window 7 Install eclipse, db2, .... ( I'm a developer) Install some other tools (Open office, Skype...) Install PGP (http://www.symantec.com/encryption) <--- I'm forced to used that due to my company policy Use Computer -- Manager -- Storage -- Disk Management to split my 300gb C partition into 2 partition as described above. I found the following in a text file, and I would like to use the Apple Service Diagnostic Application from a bootable USB key but I cannot find where to download it or set it up? Also is this free software or does it require a separate licence? It sounds like it would be a useful tool for diagnosing Mac problems. The Apple Service Diagnostic application is designed to run both EFI and Mac OS X tests from an external USB hard drive. Apple Service Diagnostic (EFI) runs low-level tests of the hardware directly and does not require Mac OS X, while Apple Service Diagnostic (OS) uses Mac OS X to run tests. Booting and Using the Apple Service Diagnostic Application - Before using Apple Service Diagnostic, disconnect any Ethernet network, USB, and audio cables. - With the USB hard drive containing ASD 3S123 plugged into a USB port, restart the computer and hold down the option key as the computer boots up into the Startup Manager. To run ASD (EFI) select the "ASD EFI 3S123" drive icon and press return or select it with a mouse click. To run ASD (OS) select the "ASD OS 3S123" drive icon and press return or select it with a mouse click. ASD (EFI) will load in 20-30 seconds; ASD (OS) will load in 2-3 minutes. - After running ASD (OS) or ASD (EFI), press the Restart button to restart the computer back into the normal startup volume, or hold down the option key to get back to the Startup Manager. ASD is no longer delivered as an image to be restored onto a DVD. ASD 3S117 and newer versions requires installation onto an external USB hard drive. Windows 7 Not Recognizing Camera Nor iPhone as Camera

I've been struggling with this one for a few days. I've recently upgraded an older computer to Windows 7 Home Premium. Neither my digital camera (A Canon SD1200IS) nor iPhone are ever detected as cameras, nor ever show up as accessable in Explorer. With the Canon camera, no driver is required. It's supposed to work with the default Windows 7 drivers. However, in the Control Panel's Device Manager, I'm always seeing a yellow icon next to the "Canon Digital Camera" device. I've uninstalled the device and let Windows attempt to reinstall, but it can never find a driver to install. With the iPhone, it's very similar. One big difference, though, is that iTunes can see the iPhone and back it up, etc. However, again when I go to the Device Manager, there's a yellow icon next to the iPhone. I've uninstalled iTunes, reinstalled, rebooted, deleted drivers, and let Window try to reinstall the driver, but it can never find the driver. So there seems to be some correlation that my machine can't detect cameras properly, and that it might be even a lower-level type of driver I'm struggling with. I know that USB however, does work, because I have have an external drive hooked into the machine. I've gone through the web and tried two hours worth of fixes, without success. I feel like if I can get the Canon camera detected, then the iPhone will be on it's way to being fixed too. BTW, I couldn't really find anything of use in the Event viewer. Any and all suggestions welcome.
