• Alternative to zc.buildout that runs on Python3

  My project uses buildout to do primarily two things: automatically fetch dependencies and create scripts; and setup cron jobs (on deployment machines) using the usercrontab buildout recipe. But buildout is not yet available for Python 3. So I would like to consider alternatives for buildout. I know that both virtualenv and pip work on Python 3 - but what is the preferred tool to automate the build toolchain (of creating virtualenv, and automatically installing/upgrading deps)? There is fabric, paver, and so on. What is your preferred tool of choice in this case? It must work seamlessly on both Windows and *nix.

• Bootstrapper with custom package

  I'm currently developping a bootstrapper to deploy one of my VSTO addins. I thus created a prerequisites list before compiled it with MSBuild, but I also need to test and install the otkloadr.dll fix (KB907417). In a first time I used a custom bootstrapper package, but the package directory and files must be included with my deployment if I want to use it. In fact I really want to have a very light setup kit, with only the setup.exe and the addin.msi files... Is there a way to use a custom bootstrapper package embedded into the setup.exe ? If not, is there a standard bootstrapper package which include the KB907417 fix ?

• Default taglibs used within included JSPs for editing

  Hello everyone Within Eclipse's jsp-editor, as you all know, I get code-assistance for external taglibs once I defined them. In the project I am working on now a lot of jsps are just included and have no taglib definition in the top which gives me a lot of editor warnings. In the deployment this doesnt matter because the taglibs are defined in the head-jsp. Is there a way that I can define default taglibs within a project so the eclipse editor will give me code-assist even though I dont include the taglib in each file again?

• Why can I not deploy my ear on Glassfish

  I have standard maven project in netbeans (netbeans' enterprise application), that have 1 war, 1 ejb and 1 ear modules. I want to inject with @Inject my @Stateless from ejb to war (REST class) using its interface. I have added some beans.xml files in correct folders in project, but im still getting this: Error occurred during deployment: Exception while loading the app : WELD-001409 Ambiguous dependencies for type [LogicBean] with qualifiers [@Default] at injection point [[field] @Inject private pl.edu.amu.wmi.kino.rk.rest.ReportRest.bean]. Possible dependencies [[Session bean [class pl.edu.amu.wmi.kino.rk.data.impl.LogicBeanImpl with qualifiers [@Any @Default]; local interfaces are [LogicBean], Session bean [class pl.edu.amu.wmi.kino.rk.data.impl.LogicBeanImpl with qualifiers [@Any @Default]; local interfaces are [LogicBean]]]. Please see server.log for more details. What am i doing wrong? I have searched the whole internet, but could not find the solution. • Build warning for distribution configuration of an iPad only application

  Hi, I'm getting the following warning when building an ad hoc distribution copy of a new iPad only application: [BWARN]warning: building with 'Targeted Device Family' that includes iPad ('2') requires building with the 3.2 or later SDK. These are my build settings: Architectures: Optimized (armv6 armv7) Any iPhone OS Simulator: i386 Any iPhone OS Device: Optimized (armv6 armv7) Base SDK: iPhone Device 3.2 Valid Architectures: armv6 armv7 Target Device Family: iPad iPhone OS Deployment Target: iPhone OS 3.2 With this in mind I don't understand the warning.   Hi, In the context of deployment scripts, I would like to capture any error than happens and stop immediately. I have notice some significant differences between the following calls: powershell.exe -File Script.ps1 powershell.exe -Command "& '.\Script.ps1'" powershell.exe .\Script.ps1 For example, the -File call will handle errors in the exact same way as the ISE. The other two seem to ignore the $ErrorActionPreference variable, and do not seem to catch Write-Error in try/catch blocks. • Which linear programming package should I use for high numbers of constraints and "warm starts"

  I have a "continuous" linear programming problem that involves maximizing a linear function over a curved convex space. In typical LP problems, the convex space is a polytope, but in this case the convex space is piecewise curved -- that is, it has faces, edges, and vertices, but the edges aren't straight and the faces aren't flat. Instead of being specified by a finite number of linear inequalities, I have a continuously infinite number. I'm currently dealing with this by approximating the surface by a polytope, which means discretizing the continuously infinite constraints into a very large finite number of constraints. I'm also in the situation where I'd like to know how the answer changes under small perturbations to the underlying problem. Thus, I'd like to be able to supply an initial condition to the solver based on a nearby solution. I believe this capability is called a "warm start." Can someone help me distinguish between the various LP packages out there? I'm not so concerned with user-friendliness as speed (for large numbers of constraints), high-precision arithmetic, and warm starts. Thanks!

• TeamCity + HG. Only pull (push?) passing builds

  Feels like with the popularity of continuous integration this one should be a piece of cake but I am stumped. I am setting up TeamCity with HG. I want to be able to push changesets up to a repository that TeamCity watches and runs builds on changes. That's easy. Next, if a build passes, I want that changeset to be pulled into a "clean" repository... one that contains only passing changesets. Should be easy but... TeamCity 6 supports multiple build steps and if any step fails, the rest don't run. My thought was to put a build step at the end that does a pull (or optionally a push?) to get the passing changeset into the clean repository. I am trying to use PsExec to run hg on the box with the repositories. If I try to run just a plain 'hg pull' it can't find the hg.exe even though it is set in the path and I have used the -w flag. I have tried putting a .bat file in the clean repository that takes a revision parameter and it works fine... locally. When I try to run the .bat file remotely (using PsExec) it runs everything fine but it tries to run it on the build agent. Even if I set the -w argument it runs the .bat file there but tries to run the contents on the build agent box. Am I just WAY off in my approach? Seems like this is a pretty obvious thing to do so either my Google skills are waning or no one thinks this is worthy of writing about. Either way, I am stuck in SVN land trying to get out so I would appreciate some help!

  I have a very simply subclass of UIButton that will fire off a custom event when the button has been held for 2 seconds. It does not take much motion, but it does take some motion. By returning "YES" in both of these, I should be setup to receive continuous events. Is this an oddity of the simulator or am I doing something wrong? NOTE: userInteractionEnabled is set to YES. NOTE2: I could setup a timer in beginTrackingWithTouch: withEvent: but that seems like more effort for something that should be simple.

  Hello, we have some installation project in Visual Studio solution (Other project types - Setup and deployment - Setup project). This project have other library type project with Installation class named InstallationCore like project output. In user action I call to Install and Uninstall functions of installer of InstallationCore. InstallationCore has windows forms for interaction with user. There, in forms, I use Drag and Drop functionality for Drag and Drop text from Tree View to Text Box. But in line: txbUserName.AllowDrop = true; I get error of JIT debugger: Unhandled exception has occured DragDrop registration did not succeed System.InvalidOperationException: DragDrop registration did not succeed And long stack trace after that. Important to say, that when I run Installer function from test project the error did not occur and all work fine. Error occurs only when I run the .msi package. Any suggestions? Thank you for ahead.

• How can I make my Ruby on Rails 2.3.4 application "Rails 3-ready"

  I'm developing an application with Ruby on Rails that I want to maintain for at least a few years, so I'm concerned about the next version coming up soon. Going from Rails 1 to Rails 2 was such a big pain that I didn't bother and froze my gems and let the application die, alone, in the dark. On this project I don't want to do that. First because this new version looks awesome, but also because this application may turn into a real product. How can I prepare my application so that it will be upgradable with as little changes as possible. How time consuming do you think switching version will be? And what about my server? Deployment? I'm already looking at deprecation notices... what else can I do?

• Opening Visual Studio created XAML in Expression Blend

  I have created a console application using Visual Studio 2008. In a few cases, this application shows a WPF dialog. Now, the design view of Visual Studio is a little limited, so I'd like to edit this dialog using Expression Blend 3. Blend does not seem to have an option to load individual XAML files, and when I open my solution in Blend, only the XAML code is displayed when I try to edit the dialog. Edit: I've noticed, that no IntelliSense is available in the text view either. When I create a new WPF Project inside Blend, and copy my dialog there (overwriten MainWindows.xaml), I get a design view. What do I have to do to actually get a design view here? • Looking for a good dev environment for OSGi bundles

  Hi, I'm currently investigating in the field of dev environment for OSGi bundles. My goal is to find a way to develop, test and debug with ease the bundles I'll be coding. Besides, I have some "cultural" requirements. I want to be able to use java continuous integration servers (typically, Hudson) As a consequence of that first requirement, I want to have a repeatable, one-click build process. My typical tool for that is maven. And finally, being long-term Eclipse user, and having the m2eclipse at hand to merge my eclipse env with my maven one, I obviously want to be able to test and debug with that IDE. So far, here are the infos I know I can use (and have already tested) maven-bundle-plugin, maven-ipojo-plugin which both offer clean packaging facilities I have tested maven pax (and eclipse pax) and am not really satisfied with both : maven pax generates a very heavy project, where adding dependencies is very error-prone (the maven pax:import-bundle command line, with all its arguments, is a hell per se) I have taken a look at Karaf, which seems to have some nice direct maven provisionning, but I don't know how to integrate it with my Eclipse, besides using the traditionnal JPDA bridge. However, it seems to be more production-oriented than dev-oriented, and as such may require heavy configuration to fit my need (although the reading of its user manual doesn't revedal that). Have you got any ideas ? Some maven/eclipse plugins ?

• Is VS 2010 SharePoint functionality good enough to replace WSP Builder?

  I have been using WSP builder up until now with VS 2008. I recently upgraded my IDE to VS 2010, and have heard that VS 2010 now includes functionality to work with MOSS directly. If you guys have had any experience with this new MOSS functionality and have come from a WSP builder background I would like to hear what you think. Just to add more focus to my question, I am not interested in ease of deployment at this stage, only the ability to wrap up a WSP package, so I can ship this off to production machines. So can VS 2010 out of the box create WSP packages from class library projects, like WSP Builder does?

  For easy of development I'm using a ViewBox to wrap all content inside a Window. This is because my development machine has a smaller screen than the deployment machine so using a ViewBox allows for better realisation of proportion. Obviously there is no reason for it to be there on Release versions of the code. Is there an easy method to conditionally include/exclude that 'wrapping' ViewBox in XAML? • .Net installation issue with SqlServerPipelineHost and SqlServer.DtsMsg

  I added a web service consumer to a vb 2005 Windows app and tried to install it on another computer, which had an earlier version already installed (ClickOnce deployment). An error came up saying I needed to install Microsoft.SqlServer.PipelineHist in the GAC. I added PipelineHost to the list of references and marked it Copy Local = true, rebuilt the solution, published it and tried to install it on that other computer. This time it said I needed to install Microsoft.SqlServer.DtsMsg, however, that component does not show up on my list of .Net components. Where do I go from here? Thank you.

When I tried to deploy the war file where I'm calling the bean class through servlet, it is showing the following error: This web app [C:\Documents and Settings\Test-war\build\web] has no ejb reference by the name of [TestingBean] deployed with moduleid = Test-war I manually created glassfish deployment descriptor for ejb and edited sun-web xml file in war. • Linking to libcrypto for Leopard?

  Hi I am using Mac OS X 10.6 SDK and my deployment target is set to Mac OS 10.5. I'm linking to libcrypto (AquaticPrime requires this) and found out that my app doesn't launch on Leopard. The error is dyld: Library not loaded: /usr/lib/libcrypto.0.9.8.dylib I've tried the following workarounds but none of them work: Linking directly to libcrypto.0.9.7.dylib (the 10.6 SDK refuses to link directly with libcrypto.0.9.7.dylib. Copying the 10.5 SDK's version of libcrypto.0.9.7.dylib to the 10.6 lib directory and try t link with it (this time the link process succeeded but in Leopard the app still tries to lookup the non-existent libcrypto.0.9.8.dylib file and thus won't launch). Copying libcrypto.0.9.7.dylib from a Mac OS X 10.5.8 installation and link with it (the link was successful but the app still looks for libcrypto.0.9.8.dylib). Is there a way to link to this library and still use the 10.6 SDK? Thanks.

• Allow native DLL to output stdout / stderr in c# console application

  I have a native DLL which outputs via stdout / stderr. I have a C# console application which calls this DLL and outputs binary data to a parent C# application which started the C# console exe, processing stdout / stderr. Currently when I call the C# exe it works just fine (the DLL hooks up to the stdout of my console application and puts its data in just fine). Is this by design (and shouldn't be broken in future .NET framework versions)? Are there limitations on my managed code's deployment with this strategy (full-trust, permission requirements, GAC issues, etc)? I can't seem to find any documentation about stdout with a managed exe and an unmanaged dll both putting data in that standard output on MSDN. Thanks,

• Classification: Dealing with Abstain/Rejected Class

  I am asking for your input and/help on a classification problem. If anyone have any references that I can read to help me solve my problem even better. I have a classification problem of four discrete and very well separated classes. However my input is continuous and has a high frequency (50Hz), since its a real-time problem. The circles represent the clusters of the classes, the blue line the decision boundary and Class 5 equals the (neutral/resting do nothing class). This class is the rejected class. However the problem is that when I move from one class to the other I activate a lot of false positives in the transition movements, since the movement is clearly non-linear. For example, every time I move from class 5 (neutral class) to 1 I first see a lot of 3's before getting to the 1 class. Ideally, I will want my decision boundary to look like the one in the picture below where the rejected class is Class =5. Has a higher decision boundary than the others classes to avoid misclassification during transition. I am currently implementing my algorithm in Matlab using naive bayes, kNN, and SVMs optimized algorithms using Matlab. Question: What is the best/common way to handle abstain/rejected classes classes? Should I use (fuzzy logic, loss function, should I include resting cluster in the training)?

• PHPUnit reporting "Aborted" no matter what tests are run

  Having a weird problem with PHPUnit. We're using PHPUnit as part of a continuous integration environment, that contains one app written using Zend Framework and one app written using CodeIgniter. Unit tests run just fine under Zend Framework, but whenever I run the tests for CodeIgniter using fooStack's CIUnit bridge, I always get the same problem at the end: PHPUnit 3.4.14 by Sebastian Bergmann. ............... . Time: 1 second, Memory: 7.00Mb OK (16 tests, 14 assertions) Aborted First off, I do not know what those empty spaces between the . means. Secondly, no matter what test I run (all of them or each one separately) I get the same Aborted message at the very end. The tests themselves do not contain any exit or die statements. When I run the same version of PHPUnit on my laptop (running OS-X Snow Leopard and same version of Zend Server Community Edition) I do not get that aborted message. Running PHP 5.3.2 on Ubuntu installed using Zend Server Community Edition. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

  My grain sizes are defined as D=[1.19,1.00,0.84,0.71,0.59,0.50,0.42]. The problem is described below in steps. Grain sizes should follow lognormal distribution. The mean of the grain sizes is fixed as 0.84 and the standard deviation should be as low as possible but not zero. 90% of the grains (by weight %) fall in the size range of 1.19 to 0.59, and the rest 10% fall in size range of 0.50 to 0.42. Now I want to find the probabilities (weight percentage) of the grains falling in each grain size. It is allowable to split this grain size distribution into further small sizes but it must always be in the range of 1.19 and 0.42, i.e. 'D' can be continuous but 0.42 < D < 1.19. I need it fast. I tried on my own but I am not able to get the correct result. I am getting negative probabilities (weight percentages). Thanks to anyone who helps. I didn't incorporate the point 3 as I came to know about that condition later. • See if any application has a DLL from the GAC loaded

  I'm trying to deploy new copies of my DLL to the GAC on remote servers, but I need to identify if any processes currently running have a loaded copy of the DLL I'm replacing - I'd like to restart them, or at least tell the user. For example, Biztalk seems to load the DLLs it needs the first time they're used, and then replacing them keeps the old copy in memory until the Host Instances are restarted - something I could easily do as part of my deployment. Is there a way to tell using .NET which processes have loaded a particular DLL from the GAC? UPDATE: Some further investigation shows that both Process Explorer has this functionality, and another Sysinternals tool, ListDLL, does exactly what I want to be able to do. I'd like to know how they do it, since I'd love to replicate this functionality in my application without having to include and screen-scrape ListDLL (if that's even allowed inside the license).
