• preg_match basics question.

  Hi all. Got some trouble with my preg_match. The code. $text = 'tel: 012 213 123. mobil: 0303 11234'; $regex_string = '/(tel|Tel|TEL)[\s|:]+(.+)[\.|\n]/'; preg_match($regex_string , $text, $match); And I get this result in $match[2] "012 213 123. mobil: 023 123 123" First question. I want the regex to stop at the .(dot) but it doesent. Can someone explain to why it isnt? Second question. preg_match uses () to get their match. Is it possible to skip the parentheses surrounding the different "Tel" and still get the same functionality? Thnx all stackoverflow is great :D

• Function not recognized from jQuery

  I've got a .js file that has this function in it: function showDialog(divID) { var dialogDiv = $(divID); dialogDiv.dialog ( { bgiframe: true, modal: true, autoOpen: false, show: 'blind' } ) And in my page this: <script type="text/javascript"> $(function() { $("input.invokeDialog").click.showDialog("#testDialog"); }); </script> I'm trying to figure out why it doesn't recognize my showDialog function. Is it not possible to reference it with the dot as I am doing? Do I need a jQuery specific function or syntax for it to know that it's a jQuery function or is there no such thing?

• Font for mac osx that is as readable and compact as the default xterm (X11) font.

  The font used in xterms is extremely compact yet readable. What font is that? The closest I've found that I can use in other other applications is DejaVu Sans Mono or Bitstream Vera Sans Mono. Those are as compact as xterms vertically but take up more space horizontally. I'd really like to switch from xterms to Terminal.app and this is the one thing holding me back. (I also think that font would be much better for emacs, xcode, or whatever editor.) ADDED: In Terminal.app you can adjust the character and line spacing for any font. Is this possible in other applications? I'm open to any other font that is as compact and readable as the xterm font. Dina looks really nice but it doesn't seem to work for Mac.

  I'm converting relational database into object-relational in Oracle. I have a query that uses full outer join in the old one. Is it possible to write the same query for O-R database without explicitly using full outer join? For normal inner join it simple, I just use dot notation together with ref/deref. I'm interested in this in general so let's say the relational query is: select a.attr, b.attr from a full outer join b on (a.fk = b.pk); I want to know if it's a good idea to do it this way: select a.attr, b.attr from a_obj a full outer join b_obj b on (a.b_ref = ref(b));

• html5media & flowplayer wmode issues...

  I'm working on our new homepage and need to implement a solution that will run a video across iphone/ipad and the standard web browsers. I found a pretty decent solution with html5media - http://code.google.com/p/html5media/ but ran across an issue with a jquery dropdown falling behind the the swf object (this only happens on FF & IE - works fine on Safari & Chrome because it's loading mp4 instead of a swf object). I know the issue is the wmode setting but can not for the life of me figure out where to set it in the html5media (http://html5media.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/src/html5media.min.js). I'm hoping someone can help me or possibly give me a better solution of implementing the video. • Komodo IDE 6's slow autocomplete problems with Javascript

  I've been trying out Komodo IDE 6 for the last few days. I've always liked Komodo but I'm starting to get annoyed by something: The autocomplete is way too slow/buggy. Certain variables just won't give any autocomplete tips. Sometimes you have to backspace the dot and try over and over again. It also has a hard time giving autocomplete info for an object that has been created using a class in a namespace. Has anyone else had any problems with these things? Are there any better alternatives?

  Hi all, I am new to unix and am using sun solaris (v10 i think) . I have my shell set as korn shell . i am wondering how to make the arrow keys and delete key work in the command line . I have done set -o emacs and the backspace works , but not the arrow keys and the delete keys . Also is it possible to set the up and down arrow key to cycle through the command line history ? . any help is appreciated .

• Ruby-Graphwiz does not render png

  I just tried the ruby-graphwiz gem (http://github.com/glejeune/Ruby-Graphviz). I followed the instructions (installed Graphwiz, gem and dependencies) and tried the example from the Github page. Unfortunately I am not able to render any output image (png,dot). # Create a new graph g = GraphViz.new( :G, :type => :digraph ) # Create two nodes hello = g.add_node( "Hello" ) world = g.add_node( "World" ) # Create an edge between the two nodes g.add_edge( hello, world ) # Generate output image g.output( :png => "hello_world.png" ) When I run the skript from the console I get no error message but also no output as expected. What could be the problem? Folders have read/write access for everybody. Thanks in advance. By the way, I´m working on a Mac (Leopard 10.6).

  I want to remove all special characters from a string. Allowed characters are A-Z (uppercase or lowercase), numbers (0-9), underscore (_), or the dot sign (.). • How to override browser default download behavior for files?

  Lots of times we have to download files from the net. In IE we get to see the ugly download progress bar. In firefox we get to see a pop-up window opening etc. However, I have never seen this being over ridden in any manner. Until recently on the site *thesixtyone DOT com* If we get to download a song free and click on the ok link to start the download we get a pop up to select location in the default style of windows. • Why can't I have static public fields in my managed beans?

  I just started using the Netbeans 7.1 beta and it is calling out errors of a type which I have never seen before. Specifically: A managed bean with a public field should not declare any scope other than @Dependent. The fields it is complaining about are public static final. I can understand the restriction on non-static fields, but I can't think of a good reason this would not be allowed for a static field. Unfortunately I use a lot of them since I don't like having constants in my code. I note that even though I get the red dot in the margin in the editor, the maven-driven build still works and GlassFish still runs my application the way I would expect. So what is my denoument on this issue? Am I going to have to move my static fields elsewhere or is there another way of handling this?

• Is using .h as a header for a c++ file wrong?

  Is using .h as a header for a c++ file wrong? I see it all over the place, especially with code written in the "C style". I noticed that Emacs always selects C highlighting style for a .h header, but c++ for hpp or hh. Is it actually "wrong" to label your headers .h or is it just something which annoys me? EDIT: There is a good (ish) reason why this annoys me, if I have project files labelled, 'hpp & cpp' I can get away with 'grep something *pp' etc. otherwise I have to type '.h cpp'

  Hi Everyone I am python newbie I have to implement lasso L1 regression for a class assignment. This involves solving a quadratic equation involving block matrices. minimize x^t * H * x + f^t * x where x 0 Where H is a 2 X 2 block matrix with each element being a k dimensional matrix and x and f being a 2 X 1 vectors each element being a k dimension vector. I was thinking of using nd arrays. such that np.shape(H) = (2, 2, k, k) np.shape(x) = (2, k) But I figured out that np.dot(X, H) doesn't work here. Is there an easy way to solve this problem?   Hi, I have a problem with my site in internet explorer. It works fine in firefox, opera etc. Sometimes internet explorer won't show my flash banner. For example when I'm on home page it works fine, but when i press services it doesn't show. Also, when opnend in older versions in IE the page get's completely mixed up. The banner doesn't show and the menu bar gets missplaced. Please help.   I want to break a string according to the following rules: all consecutive alpha-numeric chars, plus the dot (.) must be treated as one part all other consecutive chars must be treated as one part consecutive combinations of 1 and 2 must be treated as different parts no whitespace must be returned For example this string: Method(hierarchy.of.properties) = ? Should return this array: Array ( [0] => Method [1] => ( [2] => hierarchy.of.properties [3] => ) [4] => = [5] => ? ) I was unsuccessful with preg_split(), as AFAIK it cannot treat the pattern as an element to be returned. Any idea for a simple way to do this?

• QLocale, what is the scope of the global QLocale::setDefault()?

  Problem: I have a QT based multiplatform (win,mac,*nix) application that parses ascii files containing decimal numbers. parsing is done using a variety of different code pieces that use anything from qt string stuff, c++ stdin, oldstyle scanf, etc. ascii files have always the '.' (dot) as separated decimal (e.g. in the file to be parsed 1/10 is written 0.1 as standard in many countries). people using the application within a OS localized for using comma separated decimal encounter a lot of problems (e.g. for french users scanf expect to find 0,1 as a valid textual representation of 1/10 and if they find 0.1 scanf will parse it as 0) How can I be sure that the OS Locale indication of how decimal point has to be written is always ignored? Is it safe assuming that adding QLocale::setDefault(QLocale(QLocale::English,QLocale::UnitedStates)); is enough to get rid of all these problems? Any suggestion for portable ways of setting the locale globally?

  Hi, I have manged to serialize an arraylist in java using xstream, send it to my c# application via http and then write that to file (just for now). The serialized data was an arraylist in java. I want to try and re form this arraylist in c# from the xml i have. I have been looking at http://code.google.com/p/xstream-dot-net/ to do this. Does anyone know if that is the right way to go or is there a better way of reforming the serialized data in c#?

Explain $x[1][11]=11; $x[1]=1; var_dump($x); In the above code i get only x[1]. To right would be $x[1]=1; $x[1][11]=11; var_dump($x); But in my case i can dot ensure that x[1] will come first, and x[1][11] will come after. • Any tips of how to handle hierarchial trees in relational model?

  Hello all. I have a tree structure that can be n-levels deep, without restriction. That means that each node can have another n nodes. What is the best way to retrieve a tree like that without issuing thousands of queries to the database? I looked at a few other models, like flat table model, Preorder Tree Traversal Algorithm, and so. Do you guys have any tips or suggestions of how to implement a efficient tree model? My objective in the real end is to have one or two queries that would spit the whole tree for me. • C++ Typing and OOP child classes

  I'm a bit confused: If I have a base class A, and a class B which extends A, can a variable of the type A hold a value of the type B and vice versa? If yes, why? Aren't they completely different even if B is derived from A? How about type-safety? If this is possible, what things do I have to mind when taking use of this? How would this work out in terms of performance? Note: Sorry if I asked too many questions, just ignore them and just look out for those "marked" with the list decoration dot :) Also, this is not my homework. I'm a hobby programmer and have skills in scripting languages with OOP, yet I'm relatively new to OOP typing in C++.

• Visual Studio 2010 Database Project does not understand Schema Names anymore?

  I just tried to upgrade a Visual Studio 2008 Database project to VS2010 and actually it is quite a mess. Hundreds of warnings, all unsolved references. It seems to boil down to Visual Studio not to understand Schema Names (aka Ownership) anymore. For example, the standard dbo schema: [$(MyDataBase)].dbo.MyTable is fine but: [$(MyDataBase)].myschema.MyTable gives an unsolved reference. It did work in VS2008. Also the abbreviation for dbo, the double dot: [$(MyDataBase)]..MyTable Doesn't work anymore. In the project property windows I restored the references to the correct servers (which were lost after the conversion) but that didn't help. This seems pretty basic but I don't have a clue how to solve this. Any help is appreciated.

• How to interpret situations where Math.Acos() reports invalid input?

  Hey all. I'm computing the angle between two vectors, and sometimes Math.Acos() returns NaN when it's input is out of bounds (-1 input && input 1) for a cosine. What does that mean, exactly?
