• How can I make external script output link to code in Visual Studio?

  I sometimes need to search code for patterns in a way that goes beyond the regex capabilities of Visual Studio (e.g. patterns that depend on what was seen previously in the file or on the contents of other files). So I use Perl to analyze the source and output matching lines, along with the file name and line number. Since this is the exact same format as is produced by the search feature of Visual Studio, I wonder if there is a way to duplicate the functionality where I can double-click on a line and it will display that line in context in Visual Studio. Any ideas?

• How does Process Explorer enumerate all process names from an XP Guest account?

  I'm attempting to enumerate all running process EXE names, and have stumbled when attempting this on the XP Guest account. I am able to enumerate all Process IDs using EnumProcesses, but when I attempt OpenProcess with PROCESS_QUERY_INFORMATION Or PROCESS_VM_READ, the function fails. I fired up Process Explorer under the XP Guest account, and it was able to enumerate all process names (though as expected, most other information from processes outside the Guest user-space was not present). So, my question is, how can I duplicate the Process Explorer magic to get the process names of services and other processes running outside the Guest account user-space?

  Possible Duplicate: Finding the default application for opening a particular file type on Windows Hello, in my application I want to open a text file, which has no .txt extension. Is there any way to get the standard application for .txt files in .NET (C#)? Sure I could use "notepad", but there might be some people (like me), who prefer another (their standard) editor. Thank you very much. Edit: The registry key "[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT]\txtfile\shell\open\command" references notepad, but that's not my standard app for txt files. How do I get the my current standard app for .txt?

• My Apache doesn't execute PHP code with <? ?> Tag [closed]

I am using Apache Friends XAMPP (Basis Package) version 1.7.3 Apache 2.2.14 (IPV6 enabled) MySQL 5.1.41 (Community Server) with PBXT engine 1.0.09-rc PHP 5.3.1 (PEAR, Mail_Mime, MDB2, Zend) and i am running php files, that i code with <? ?> tags not <?php ?>. but the apache server won't execute my code, but if i try with <?php ?> tags, the code works. Anyone know how to enable the server to execute php code with <? ?> tags ?

• C/C++ enums: Detect when multiple items map to same value

  Is there a compile-time way to detect / prevent duplicate values within a C/C++ enumeration? The catch is that there are multiple items which are initialized to explicit values. Background: I've inherited some C code such as the following: #define BASE1_VAL (5) #define BASE2_VAL (7) typedef enum { MsgFoo1A = BASE1_VAL, // 5 MsgFoo1B, // 6 MsgFoo1C, // 7 MsgFoo1D, // 8 MsgFoo1E, // 9 MsgFoo2A = BASE2_VAL, // Uh oh! 7 again... MsgFoo2B // Uh oh! 8 again... } FOO; The problem is that as the code grows & as developers add more messages to the MsgFoo1x group, eventually it overruns BASE2_VAL. This code will eventually be migrated to C++, so if there is a C++-only solution (template magic?), that's OK -- but a solution that works with C and C++ is better.

• Insert data into table effeciently, postgresql

  I am new to postgresql (and databases in general) and was hoping to get some pointers on improving the efficiency of the following statement. I am inserting data from one table to another, and do not want to insert duplicate values. I have a rid (unique identifier in each table) that are indexed and are Primary Keys. I am currently using the following statement: Insert INTO table1 SELECT * FROM table2 WHERE rid NOT IN (SELECT rid FROM table1). As of now the table one is 200,000 records, table2 is 20,000 records. Table1 is going to keep growing (probably to around 2,000,000) and table2 will stay around 20,000 records. As of now the statement takes about 15 minutes to run. I am concerned that as Table1 grows this is going to take way to long. Any suggestions?

• What is the difference between the * and the & operators in c programming?

  I am just making sure I understand this concept correctly. With the * operator, I make a new variable, which is allocated a place in memory. So as to not unnecessarily duplicate variables and their values, the & operator is used in passing values to methods and such and it actually points to the original instance of the variable, as opposed to making new copies...Is that right? It is obviously a shallow understanding, but I just want to make sure I am not getting them mixed up. Thanks!

  Possible Duplicate: Property Name and need its value Hi, This one should be easy for most people. I'd like to access a normal variable in an object (let's say example) by using a variable value. E.g.: I have a an array with a list of variable names and I want to get the information from the object by using them. Obviously this is wrong: string[] variable_names = new string[] {"name", "surname"}; myObject.variable_names[0] = 1; myObject.variable_names[1] = 1; In other languages (not C#) I use: myObject[variable_names[0]] = 1; I know the example looks stupid but it was just a way of explaining it. • significance of index name in creating an index (mySQL)

  I've done something like this in order to use on duplicate key update: CREATE UNIQUE INDEX blah on mytable(my_col_to_make_an_index); and its worked just fine. I'm just not sure what the purpose of the index name is -- in this case 'blah'. The stuff I've read says to use one but I can't fathom why. It doesn't seem to be used in queries, although I can see it if I export the schema. So ... what purpose does the index name serve? If it helps the line in the CREATE TABLE ends up looking like: UNIQUE KEY `clothID` (`clothID`)

  I tried to make sure this wasn't a duplicate post, sorry if I was blind. This is a small snippet of code taken from some of the examples that accompany the Stanford Parser. I've been developing in Java for about 4 years, but have never had a very strong understanding of what this style of code is supposed to indicate. List<? extends HasWord> wordList = toke.tokenize(); I'm not worried about the details of the code. What I'm confusing about is what exactly the generic expression is supposed to convey, in English.   I have factory that looks something like the following snippet. Foo is a wrapper class for Bar and in most cases (but not all), there is a 1:1 mapping. As a rule, Bar cannot know anything about Foo, yet Foo takes an instance of Bar.   In my project, I am trying to populate ComboBox from DataSet. I succeeded in populating but the values inside the ComboBox are not distinct (Because it just showing the values present in DataSet). I cant bind the ComboBox to DataSet because I am adding "Select" text at first of populating the values. Here is my code. • ASP MVC Creating Form Rows Dynamically

  Hi Guys, I haven't even attempted this yet and am creating this question for advice really. I have a strongly typed page which receives a form model composed of several components. It is to create a mitigating circumstance (MC) for a student at a university for my final year project. A MC can be composed of the initial problem, assessment extensions, and I use a multi select box to allow the user to select staff retrieved from the database which are able to view the MC once created. The thing is I feel that a student could be granted many assignment extensions for one problem. I am wander if it is possible to include a button/image on the form which when clicked will create a new assessment extension object, and duplicate the form components to set the values for the object? This would all need to occur without any page refreshes. Any advice, or links to good tutorials would be appreciated. I have so far been unable to find any suitable examples. Thanks, Jon

  I gave a comp to my client that I did in Photoshop. I used an inner shadow but now have realized the in Illustrator CS5 I have no such "easy" filter. I have spent 2 days seaching the web, trying tutorials, etc. to no avail. Every tutorial seems to use text but I am not using text. • Rspec: "array.should == another_array" but without concern for order

  I often want to compare arrays and make sure that they contain the same elements, in any order. IS there a consise way to do this in RSpec? Here are methods that aren't acceptable: #to_set For example: array.to_set.should == another_array.to_set This fails when the arrays contain duplicate items. #sort For example: array.sort.should == another_array.sort This fails when the arrays elements don't implement #<=> #size and #to_set For example: array.to_set.should == another_array.to_set array.size.should == another_array.size This would work, but there's got to be a better way.

The book states that to write great software (i.e. software that is well-designed, well-coded, easy to maintain, reuse, and extend) you need to do three things: Firstly, make sure the software does everything the customer wants it to do Once step 1 is completed, apply Object Oriented principles and techniques to eliminate any duplicate code that might have slipped in Once steps 1 and 2 are complete, then apply design patterns to make sure the software is maintainable and reusable for years to come. My question is, do you follow these steps when developing great software? If not, what steps do you usually follow inorder to ensure it's well designed, well-coded, easy to maintain, reuse and extend?

  Hi, I need to find all invocations of some logging macros in the code. The macro invocation is of the form: DEBUG[1-5] ( "methodName: the logged message", arguments) But the new versions of the macros are prepending the name of the method automatically, so my task is to write a Python script that will remove the duplicate function names specified already by the programmer. I'm using the sub function from the re module. I plan to substitute the part indicated by || signs below : ||DEBUG[1-5] ("methodName: || the logged message", arguments) with simply DEBUG[1-5](" The problem is following: To find the expressions I want to substitute, I use the following regular expression: ((DEBUG | INFO | all other macros names )[1-5]*)\s*\(\"\w+: But it doesn't match the whole expression ( from DEBUG right to the colon ), but only the macro name, that is for example DEBUG5. Is my expression wrong or there is some quirk in the Python regex processing? ( maybe the fact that I use the DEBUG[1-5] as a subgroup has something to do with this? ) Help from anyone more knowledgable than me appreciated :).

  I have several lists that contain many of the same items and many duplicate items. I want to check which items in one list are not in the other list. • Add Method to Built In Class

  I am pretty sure this is not doable, but I will go ahead and cross my fingers and ask. I am trying to add a method to a built in class. I want this method to be callable by all of the built in class's subclasses. Specifically: I have a JButton, a JTextPane, and other JComponents. I want to be able to pass in a JDom Element instead of a Rectangle to setBounds(). My current solution is to extend each JComponent subclass with the desired methods, but that is a LOT of duplicate code. Is there a way I can write the following method just one time, and have it callable on all JComponent objects? • In Python, is there a way to call a method on every item of an iterable? [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: Is there a map without result in python? I often come to a situation in my programs when I want to quickly/efficiently call an in-place method on each of the items contained by an iterable. (Quickly meaning the overhead of a for loop is unacceptable). A good example would be a list of sprites when I want to call draw() on each of the Sprite objects. I know I can do something like this: [sprite.draw() for sprite in sprite_list] But I feel like the list comprehension is misused since I'm not using the returned list. The same goes for the map function. Stone me for premature optimization, but I also don't want the overhead of the return value. What I want to know is if there's a method in Python that lets me do what I just explained, perhaps like the hypothetical function I suggest below: do_all(sprite_list, draw)

• How can I lock the cursor to the inside of a window on Linux?

  I'm trying to put together a game for Linux which involves a lot of fast action and flinging around of the mouse cursor. If the user wants to play in windowed mode, I'd quite like to lock the cursor to the inside of the window to avoid accidentally changing programs in the heat of battle (obviously this will cancel itself if the user changes programs or hits escape for the pause menu.) On Windows, this can be accomplished easily with ClipCursor(). I can't find an equivalent on Linux. Is there one? I plan to do this in pure X code, but obviously if anyone knows of a way to do this in any Linux windowing library then I can just read the source code and figure out how to duplicate it in X.

• Access shell methods in controller? Cake PHP 1.3

  I wrote a shell method in CakePHP 1.3 that has a return value. I'd like to be able to access that method from within a controller, so that I can pass its return value into the View. I'm not sure how to access those methods appropriately from within the controller. Have I done it wrong? I could easily duplicate the code, but I'd like to "keep it DRY", and the actual functionality, I believe, doesn't belong with this particular controller - I just need it's return value in this particular view.
