• Preview Links and Images in Google Chrome

  Anyone who has used the CoolPreviews extension in Firefox knows how wonderful that preview window can be. Now you can get the same kind of functionality in Chrome with the ezLinkPreview extension. Note: Extension will not work on websites containing “frame buster” code (navigation to the actual URL will occur). Before Normally if you want to have a better look at a particular webpage the only option you have is to go ahead and open it in a new tab or window. But it would certainly be nice to be able to take a quick “sneak peek” before-hand… After As soon as you have finished installing the extension everything is ready to go…just refresh any pages open prior to installation and enjoy the preview goodness. When you hover your mouse near any link you will notice a small “Preview Button” appear with the letters “EZ” inside. A closer look at the “Preview Button”. Click on the “Preview Button” to open the popup window. Now you can get a very good idea of whether the page is worth visiting or not. Here is a closer look at the popup window. Notice that you can see the URL for the webpage and access a convenient set of buttons on the right side (Open to new tab, Pin to keep overlay open, and Close). You can even resize the window as desired to best suit your needs (you can actually grab any of the four corners to resize the popup window). It is also possible to open a “preview window” inside the popup window…you can see the “Preview Button” here… If you have Chrome maximized you can enjoy using a large sized “preview window”. Now that is nice! For those who may be curious you can see that ezLinkPreview works nicely with images too. Conclusion The ezLinkPreview extension provides a quick and simple way to preview links and/or images while you are browsing. • Stop YouTube Videos from Automatically Playing in Chrome

  If you’ve actually used the internet before, you’ve probably come across a page with an auto-playing YouTube clip, and chances are good it was a rather annoying one. Here’s how to stop them from starting automatically in Chrome. We’ve already told you how to stop them from automatically playing if you’re a Firefox user (best answer: use Flashblock!), but now it’s time for Chrome users to get their turn. Use the Stop Autoplay for YouTube Extension The great thing about this extension is that it stops the video from playing, but it allows it to continue buffering, so when you do feel like playing the video, it’ll already be downloaded—really useful for people with slower internet connections. There’s no UI or anything fancy, just head to the extension page and click the Install button. If you want to get rid of it later, use the Tools –> Extensions menu (or you can type chrome://extensions/ into your address bar), and then click the Uninstall link for that add-on.   Download Stop Autoplay for YouTube [Google Chrome Extensions] Using FlashBlock for Chrome If you really wanted to, you could just disable Flash across the board using FlashBlock for Chrome. Once you’ve installed the extension, you won’t see any Flash elements anywhere, and you’ll have to move your mouse over them and click to enable them each time. When I installed the extension the first time, I noticed that YouTube was already in the allow list. I’m not sure if that’s the default setting or not, but you can use the icon in the address bar, or the Options from the Extensions panel to get to the settings page, and from there you can remove anything from the White List that you wouldn’t want. Another nice feature about Flash Block is that it can also block Silverlight, or you could simply uninstall or remove unnecessary Chrome plug-ins.   I know many people have complained about the almost invisible and not usable scrollbars in recent versions of Ubuntu, even after removing or disabling the default overlay scrollbars. I wonder how can I easily change their color AND width. I have a 13.3 inches monitor with a 1600*900 resolution and I can barely see them, as you can see in these images: I already changed Firefox, LibreOffice and some other software's scrollbars using GNOME Color Chooser: By the way, I'm using Unity. • "Page Size" and "Orientation" are disabled when printing from some applications

  There are many different Print dialogs but one is very common and is used by Gimp, Shutter, Evloution and Simple Scan. In all these apps the "Page Size" and "Orientation" are disabled. The same dialog in Firefox, Thunderbird and GEdit works OK. I program in Gambas3 which uses this dialog in conjunction with the GTK+ library and it also has these options disabled. If I use the QT4 library then a different print dialog is displayed with no problems. Anybody else notice this problem and found a solution?

• How do you get out of "Flash movie keystroke capture" without a mouse?

  When you browse the web with either Chrome or Firefox and you find a Flash movie or TV show player (e.g. on Hulu), the movie will capture a lot of your keyboard input if you activate it somehow. You can still do basic things like ALT+Tab to switch apps, but basically any web browser keyboard shortcut is inaccessible until you use a mouse to click outside the Flash embed. Is there any way to escape the Flash movie without a mouse?

  I'm thinking of buying a wildcard SSL cert from clickSSL : http://www.clickssl.com/rapidssl/rapidsslwildcard.aspx That would be a rapidssl certificate, and I was looking into my firefox options to see if RapidSSL is in the list of recognized Authorities. My certificate manager doesn't mention RapidSSL anywhere. Am I looking for the wrong name, e.g. is rapidssl recognized by browsers under a different name? I want to be sure that this certificate is working in all major browsers (including IE6)

  How do I make the middle touch pad's button work? xinput --test 11 yields button press 1 button press 1 For pressing both the left and the middle button. I have tried to do xinput set-button-map 11 1 4 2 and so on, but as the --test shows that button 1 is being depressed, then probably the issue is at a lower level than with X11's perception of what mouse buttons I'm pressing (or assigning button-map 11 1 2 3 and clicking the right button in firefox, wouldn't trigger the middle-click on the link)

• Fonts look squashed or stretched in the browser on Ubuntu

  Fonts in the browser on Ubuntu look look squashed/stretched compared to Windows/OSX. This image shows exactly what I mean: http://i.stack.imgur.com/suUXX.png I installed msttcorefonts and configured both Chrome & FF to use Microsoft fonts (Arial, Times New Roman) instead of the default ones. While MS fonts made web pages appear a bit different, regardless of what font it was the squashed/stretched look remained. FreeSans looks a little different from Arial, but it too is rendered squashed/stretched like Arial on both FF & Chrome. Opera renders the Wikipedia page differently from FF & Chrome, but the fonts looks squashed/stretched on it as well. I used to run Kubuntu prior to switching to Ubuntu and at some point I managed to get the fonts on Chrome (only Chrome) look exactly like in the image on the left. I have no idea how I did it though. Firefox and Rekonq retained the squashed/stretched look. I had been using Rekonq for a while, then switched to FF. While using both browsers I had done various things to get the fonts to look better on them with no success - like installing MS fonts & configuring both browsers to use them. I then, after some time, installed Chrome and the fonts magically looked perfect on them - just like on right-hand side of the image. In fact, the font smoothing looked better (to my eye) compared to Windows and OSX. All 3 OSes use subtly different font smoothing strategies and the differences stand out. Later, I formatted & installed Ubuntu 12.04. The first thing I did was install msttcorefonts & then install Chrome. To my dismay, the fonts on Chrome looked just as squashed/stretched as it did in Firefox. There's no browser (except Wine Internet Explorer) that renders fonts properly on my Ubuntu setup right now. Fixing this is definitely possible, since I was able to do it on Kubuntu, but apparently it requires some mysterious tweaking. Would anyone be willing to help me out?

  I always use a proxy to connect to the internet in Windows as well as in previous versions of Ubuntu, but in Ubuntu 11.10 it seems that the proxy settings I set in the GUI are not being applied system-wide. I can access the internet in Firefox with its own proxy settings. I can access internet in the terminal (i.e. I am able to use apt-get for some small programs). But in Ubuntu software centre or update manager it is not working.

  I would like to create a custom Ubuntu image based on Natty using Ubuntu Customization Kit. I also want to customize the icons appearing on the Unity Launcher. I can change the icons on my desktop system with the following command: gsettings set com.canonical.Unity.Launcher favorites "['firefox.desktop', 'nautilus-home.desktop', 'libreoffice-writer.desktop']" I tried to run this command from the UCK console while creating the Live CD, but it doesn’t seem to work. Do you have any ideas how I could solve this?

  Im looking for something similar to iPlotz or Mockup. I've found Pencil Project, but it require xulrunner-1.9 (seem to be incompatible with xulrunner-1.9.2) to be run as a standalone application; However it can be used as a firefox plugin..but is a bit slower. The error on my desktop (ubuntu 10.04) is: Could not find compatible GRE between version 1.9.1 and 1.9.2.* Does anyone know other software? • How do you make it so when you click an app on the side it jumps to the opened app

  I'm not sure what I did but I had it so I could click on the icon that split it into 4 screens and throw whatever I wanted on whichever screen I wanted but I fiddled around with some stuff and made it so that now when I click on the app, say I have Firefox open but it isn't on the active page, it does nothing. Whereas before in the same situation when I clicked on the active app it would sling me across to whichever of the four screens it was located on; how do I get back to this setting?

• Is there a version of Chrome or Chromium whose bookmarks are visible to the HUD?

  I noticed that Firefox has bookmarks that can be executed in the HUD. Love it! Chrome and Chromium, which run javascript apps much faster for some odd reason, allow for history to be called through the HUD, but not bookmarks. This wouldn't be a problem if ALL history was callable, but it seems that Chrome LIMITS the amount of history visible to the hud. Is there a version of chrome or chromium that will see our bookmarks?

• Macbook 4,1 crashes when flash video (youtube) is played fullscreen (Ubuntu 12.04)

  I have searched for similar posts but those were mostly about erratic behaviour. My macbook shuts down instantly without warning when I play a youtube video fullscreen; sometimes after five minutes sometimes longer, never immediately. I can play the video normally for as long as I like, it does not crash, only when played fullscreen. I have tried Firefox and chromium, it crashes with both browsers. Anyone encountered the same thing or has a solution? thanks

Does it also protect against malicious ads on completely legitimate websites? For instance, several news websites use ad services that may allow a malicious user to insert "evil code". This makes the web very unsafe, especially for those who lack a serious antivirus product.

  I'm in charge of a relatively big corporate website (circa 95K pages) and need to perform a cookie audit. I can see cookies issued on a per-page basis with Chrome or Firefox console, but given the amount of pages I need a tool to automate the process. I tried to google for website cookie scanner but my search was unfruitful and found: either online tools which only scan the home page paid services (ex1, ex2) Does any of you know about a tool to scan an entire website and generate a report showing which cookies are being used and which page set them?
