• Run java thread at specific times

  I have a web application that synchronizes with a central database four times per hour. The process usually takes 2 minutes. I would like to run this process as a thread at X:55, X:10, X:25, and X:40 so that the users knows that at X:00, X:15, X:30, and X:45 they have a clean copy of the database. It is just about managing expectations. I have gone through the executor in java.util.concurrent but the scheduling is done with the scheduleAtFixedRate which I believe provides no guarantee about when this is actually run in terms of the hours. I could use a first delay to launch the Runnable so that the first one is close to the launch time and schedule for every 15 minutes but it seems that this would probably diverge in time. Is there an easier way to schedule the thread to run 5 minutes before every quarter hour?

• Ooutsourcing design/programming (taxes!)

  Hello, I have a full time job, but I also have some ideas in mind -- and I want to outsource some code development and design to Russia. I have friends there who help me to do that -- they'll do the development, provide me invoice (which is just description of our terms, because we decided on flat rate monthly fee), and I need to wire them money. So, I do not have business entity. If I'll pay them, am I am required to pay taxes? Or do I deduct my business expenses (say $30K/year) from my earnings (say $50K/year), and pay taxes only on what's left ($20K to be precise)? Any rules on that? Am I limited with something here? • JQUERY-UI Draggables - Seralize is running before the Draggable is complete

  Hello, I'm using the JQUERY-UI draggable plugin. As a setting, when the Draggable is done, using the STOP setting I run a function to seralize a list of LIs to get their order in terms of their IDs. For example, if I have an UL, with a list of LIs with the following IDs: 1,2,3,4,5 If I then move 5, between 2&3, the seralize is returning: 1,2,5,3,4,5 Which makes me think that the JQUERY UI-Draggable STOP is running before the page is finished rendering, or the DOM isn't update? Any ideas on how I can fix this from happening. Is there something I can do in my Seralize funtion to say, wait till JQUERY animations are all done, or stop all that are going on to ensure the DOM is accurate? Thanks

Suppose I have two memory segments (equal size each, approximately 1kb in size) , one is read-only (after initialization), and other is read/write. what is the best layout in memory for such segments in terms of memory performance? one allocation, contiguous segments or two allocations (in general not contiguous). my primary architecture is linux Intel 64-bit. my feeling is former (cache friendlier) case is better. is there circumstances, where second layout is preferred?   Some months ago I found a project-management / time-estimation software that would ask you to sort out your tasks in terms of difficulty (1, 2 or 3) and would then estimate the time you would take to deploy. The system would auto-adapt as you were working. I've forgot the software name. For the past days I've been digging emails and searching Google with no results.   I have build a static web interface for searching data from some tables in my PostgreSQL database. The query website consists of a simple textfield for entering the search term, the result website presents the results as a simple html table. The server side code for searching the PostgreSQL database and returning the results is written in python using psycopg2. Now I would like to add some interactive "Ajax features" to my search engine. When entering the search term I would like to be able to see a list of possible search terms like Google does it. On the results page, I would like to be able to sort the table showing the results. What would be the easiest/recommended way to implement these features for my search engine web site? Do I need a full-fledged web framework like Django for that?

  I need to build an AJAX application against our MS SQL Server database for my company. the app has to have user permissions and reporting and is pretty complex. I am really under the gun in terms of time. The company that I work for needs the app for an important project launch. A colleague/friend of mine in a different company recommended that I look at a product from Alpha Software called Alpha Five v10 with Codeless AJAX. He has told me that he has used it extensively and that it saves him a "serious boat load of time" and he says that he has not run into limitations because you can also write your own JavaScript or you wire in jQuery.   Hi All, I am newbie in Drupal 6. I am looking for customizing User registration form. Apparently found that while adding user using Admin login allows registration form to have fields like email address, username, password,confirm password, etc with validations. But when anonymous use wants to register, then only fields like email address and username are displayed. I tried with Profile module available. But now how could I add some fields (password, confirm password, terms & condition check and receive news letter check box)and behavior (password, confirm password validation etc.)? If I am adding such fields they are also get visible in AdminAdd user form resulting duplicate fields like Password,Confirm password. Could you please suggest me how can I do this? I tried googling but confused me a lot as I am beginner to Drupal.

• Good development themes/environments for Gnome/kde/whatever?

  I've searched forever for good themes or customized versions of any type of x-server that is designed for development in terms of web productions/programming for all kind of stuffs. Features such as simplified workspace overviews, good tabbing support etc. For multimedia "UbuntuStudio" exists, and something like that but for programming instead. I know that it's possible to customize it by myself but I don't have the skills to make it all happen. Another reason why it's hard for me to customize it is that I simply do not know everything that would make it good for me. I've looked into gnome-shell and it has (according to me) superb workspace overview functions, but lacks in other spaces instead. Any help in finding a good solution for me in this case is appreciated. If some of you also have had this problem and found a solution that works for you, please tell me how you did :) Would love to solve this for once!

As far as I can tell: Controller: deals with routing requests View: deals with presentation of data Model: looks a whole lot like a Data Access layer Where does the Business Logic go? Take a large enterprise application with: Several different sources of data (WCF, WebServices and ADO) tied together in a data access layer (useing multiple different DTOs). A lot business logic segmented over several dlls. What is an appropriate way for an MVC web application to sit on top of this (in terms of code and project structure)? The example I have seen where everything just goes in the Model folder don't seem like they are appropriate for very large applications. Thanks for any advice!

• Any good books out there for advanced concepts like lambdas, delegates, events etc?

  I've read about these features but I don't think I've seen enough to consistently apply them in my coding, eg "This would be better done with a delegate than with my other, outdated approach". I know what they do, but I want more examples of use cases, or want some heuristic to help me think in terms of such features. All the books I've seen either focus only on the basics or just mention the features as part of the language. Is there any book out there that deals with this? Preferably C# or language agnostic.

If you see the well established compiler theroy, almost 100% is about the textual language. But how about the graphical language? Is there any noticable research or discussion about the graphical programming language? • Resizing JPopupMenu and avoiding a "flicker" issue

  Hi, I am trying to implement a search results popup list similar to the style found here: http://www.inquisitorx.com/ (I'm not trying to implement a Google search, I'm just using this as a rough example of the style I'm working on.) In any event, I am implementing this by using a JList contained within a JPopupMenu which is popped up underneath a JTextField. When a user enters search terms, the list changes to reflect different matching results. I then call pack on the JPopupMenu to resize it. This works, however, it creates a slight flicker effect since it is actually hiding the popup and showing a popup. (See the private method getPopup in JPopupMenu where it explicitly does this.) Is there any way to just get it to just resize itself (aside from using a JWindow)?

  Both replication and clustering are terms for servers setups with physical (real) servers, usually implemented on a DB or AS level. Now the question: In a virtualized environment with "easy" scalable servers (touching clustering) and a higher availability (DB replication) through the means of high availability of the virtual server by the cloudserver provider, do we really need replication and clustering (as in covering the problems of traditional servers) ? Question is asked from a soultion/application provider viewpoint. Please exclude the need of replication with a business requirement background, eg. the need to replicate a DB at 2 different geographical locations to ensure performance and data.   In terms of actual low level atomic instructions and memory fences (I assume they're used), how do you implement STM? The part that's mysterious to me is that given some arbitrary chunk of code, you need a way to go back afterward and determine if the values used in each step were valid. How do you do that, and how do you do it efficiently? This would also seem to suggest that just like any other 'locking' solution you want to keep your critical sections as small as possible (to decrease the probability of a conflict), am I right? Also, can STM simply detect "another thread entered this area while the computation was executing, therefore the computation is invalid" or can it actually detect whether clobbered values were used (and thus by luck sometimes two threads may execute the same critical section simultaneously without need for rollback)?

  I've modified my .htaccess file to have the following statement RewriteCond $1 !^index.php$ RewriteRule ^/?([^/]+)$ index.php?c=home&m=details&seo=$1 [L,NS] This allows me to use product URL's like this: http://domain.com/product_name However, when trying to access a file at the same level as index.php, it always calls the RewriteRule above and errors out. I need to be able to access files like below, but each URL currently attempts to load index.php. http://domain.com/about.htm http://domain.com/terms.htm http://domain.com/robots.txt etc Any suggestions on how I can modify my htaccess file to get this to work correctly?

• How can I download all files of a specific type from a website using PHP?

  I want to get all midi (*.mid) files from a site that's set up pretty simple in terms of directory tree structure. I wish we had wget installed here, but that's another party.... The site is VGMusic.com and the path containing all of the midi files is: http://www.vgmusic.com/music/console/nintendo/nes/ I tried glob'ing it out, but I suppose that glob only works locally? But still, I feel I am missing the details. Here are some questions I'd like to have answered: Can you give a comprehensive definition for these terms? Does it ever make sense to call Publish on hot observable or Defer on cold? Is there differences between hot and cold definitions for IObservable and IEnumerable? • Integration of Photoshop and MySQL

  I’m working to integrate Photoshop (CS4, local) with MySQL (Linux, remote), such that: a) image file information, data and meta data can be exported from PS into MySQL where same can be manipulated both manually and calculated, and then b) the MySQL fields can be referenced in Photoshop scripting for further automated image file manipulation, and c) the MySQL fields can be referenced for other purposes such as dynamic propagation of files and associated file data to a website, for example. I’ve spent many hours running searches for these concepts on StackOverflow, Google, and Adobe Support. I’m coming up empty, which leads me to believe that it’s not natively possible, and that I’ll need some middle language like PHP. Does anyone know if it’s possible for Photoshop and MySQL to bi-directionally share data? If so, how? If that’s not possible, what solution(s) might you recommend, in terms of specific tools/technologies that I can research further. Thank you.

  I am currently writing a formal research report, and I'll be including JavaScript and PHP code. None of the sections of code will be more than 25 lines (so they're mere snippets). There will be approx. half a dozen snippets, each of which will have a couple of paragraphs explaining what is happening in the code and a discussion on its pros/cons. Is there an accepted way of displaying code in research reports? I'm thinking in terms of font, spacing, whether the code should be displayed inside the document or in an appendix, and related details. I have no contact with the body the report will be submitted to, and they have no published guidelines on how to format code.

Regarding Virtual Machine Is it same as dedicated server? can i use WASD as database from application reside in same? I think i can run any exe and installed anything however azure is going to recycle this and if yes then what happened on recycling? can i use new window server 2012 (VHD) in that? Azure website & VM both are in preview mode so is it reliable to use it as production version?

  I'm using asserts_redirected_to in my unit tests, and I'm receiving this warning: DEPRECATION WARNING: Using assert_redirected_to with partial hash arguments is deprecated. Specify the full set arguments instead. What is a partial hash argument, and what is a full set argument? These aren't terms that I've seen used in the Rails community before, and the only relevant results I can find on Google for these are in reference to this deprecation warning. • Drupal / ubercart remote node addition

  I am developing my first large Ubercart site, which needs to have a daily product database update from an existing xBase (DBF format). The conversion from DBF to MySQL/PHP is handled on the same server as the Drupal installation, using some custom scripting I have done, and works well. However, the next step is to get my script to talk to Drupal and update the product nodes with pricing/stock level/etc. Googling hasn't resulted in any good hits, at least in PHP terms. So how do I go about this? Can I just use a POST to a particular page in Drupal, ie RESTful, or do I have to use some more arcane xmlrpc method?
