• Google Cache showing wrong URL

  I searched the cache details of the URL http://property.sulekha.com/pune-properties but the Google Cache showing details for property.sulekha.com. I don't know why it's showing like this. Not only for http://property.sulekha.com/pune-properties but also for all the Indian city relates URL's like http://property.sulekha.com/chennai-properties , http://property.sulekha.com/mumbai-properties , http://property.sulekha.com/kolkata-properties etc. Even i don't find these urls in the Google search result. If i search Chennai properties in Google, i find property.sulekha.com and not http://property.sulekha.com/chennai-properties . Why its happening like this? Please let me know

• Reach Local Proxy Page - Duplicate content?

  We have a client who has instructed Reach Local to manage their paid SEO work etc. RL have created a proxy version of the page at http://example-px.rtrk.co.uk which mirrors the existing site completely. Would I be correct in assuming that this would count as duplicate content and one or both of the sites would be penalized because of this? And would the addition of a rel="canonical" meta-tag on the proxy site assist with this? Many thanks in advance.

• Browser language detection & content ranking for new language on the same site.

  I've been reading a lot about it but it's still really hard to make up my mind. My understand is that if your website provide a link to the other language, this should not be an issue for google as long as your links are clear and clean, google will be able to make his way through it. The website was orginaly in french and I added the english version and I'm just worry that english speaker will just leave if the site is not in the correct language, for the home page I just wanted to get the value from the browser and redirect it to /fr/ or /en/ for the first page. (using php this will be very easy) Could you guys have a look at it and tell me what you think about it http://tinyurl.com/bpc5bn9 I don't want to get it wrong and lost my ranking with google. Also the website has good rank on the french side and the english has been online for 2 weeks and only get few visit a day, is that because all the back link refer to /fr/ and google is cleaver enough to decide that they are 2 differantes website and the back link will have to point to /en/ to increase the ranking value? • Can I test my affiliate ID on a dummy webpage without it being suspended?

  I've recently applied for an Amazon affiliate program (which was accepted) as I'm planning on advertising books I read, on my website. Before going live with my website, I would like to: 1 -test the whole affiliate program to make sure it's working properly. 2 -buy the books I will review and promote on my website under my own affiliate program in order to get some cash back and therefore save money. To do so, I thought about setting up a simple HTML page (on the actual domain I applied for) which will just list the products I will buy before going live. That way I test, get some cash back, and don't expose my website (Brand, content...) before going live. Can I do this without having my account suspended by Amazon (i.e. won't Amazon think I only applied to the program to get some cash back, will Amazon be happy with receiving affiliate traffic from an almost empty website...) ?

  Is there a way to somehow verify that the googlebot finds the headings and the content, for example by word count? I'm asking this because I tried a program called Screaming Frog, which fails to even fetch the first h1 on a validated page - for about 1/3 of all the pages(!) - and got insecure. Even though the site looks hunky dory in Webmaster Tools, I'd like to know what a googlebot-like content crawler finds on my page and in what order. Any tips on such tools is appreciated. This is not about keyword count.

  I want to allow a client to have a flexible way to configure the navigation menu for his WordPress website. To that end, I have created a parent page called "Navigation", which has child pages for each page to be displayed in the navigation menu. Those pages then get 301 redirected to the actual page that should be served. This means the client can create pages freely, and then set up redirects for them as and when needed. This is a really easy way for him to manage his main menu and it works well. From an SEO point of view, is this okay? Will the pages be indexed fine?

  I want to build a website for a retro thing that was popular in the mid 90s (beginning of the commercial internet). So I want use old designs that was very popular at that time. The first thing that comes to my mind was those "under construction" animated gifs. People often put animated gifs everywhere. But also those awful repeating backgrounds. • Is it good or bad to have dynamic content in page titles and/or description

  In a local listing website, I append number of search results found in the description(not in title currntly) meta tag of the page as I think this is valuable for users for e.g. "Find address, phone numbers, blah blah blah for 21 outlets in locality. some more stuff after this..." as more places are added to the database, the description for the same page will change frequently. is this good or bad for SEO how about doing the same for title tags?

I don't mind spending a little money to have a professional do it, but design sites like 99designs.com cost way to much. (~$500+) Is there a cheaper (~$100 - $200) alternative for getting a designer to improve an existing site? (Things like updating the CCS or suggesting better ways for laying out the navigation.) Or is my best bet trying to pick up a freelancer on Craigslist?

• Is there an easier way to implement 301 redirects when converting a site to WordPress

  I have just converted a website to WordPress. The old site has hundreds of hard-coded html files, and the new site does not match the old site's directory structure or file naming system (bad SEO in the original site), so I can't place any "blanket" 301 redirects. Its been at least 2 months, and the old links are still appearing in Google searches, despite a google-friendly sitemap.xml. Do I need to hardcode a 301 for every individual page in my htaccess file, or am I just misunderstanding 301s and apache? Is there some other way I can update Google about the fact that my entire site structure has changed?

• Constructive criticism for my bounce rate being so high [closed]

  The bounce rate on my website's product pages is 80%, which is terrible. Could you offer any opinions on whether you consider the user experience to be bad, and how I could possibly improve it? Other pages, such as the home and category pages, have acceptable bounce rates, but the vast majority of my traffic lands on the product pages. I already tried removing some Google ads for a couple of days, but this didn't seem to help at all. I'm working on doing A/B testing at the moment. (It's tricky, as the site is based on a CMS - I custom coded the [Joomla] component, so hopefully I can get this testing working.)

• mod_rewrite works within directory not on root

  I am having problem in my RewriteRule for the tags portion. What I am able to debug is that the rule is been triggered at least because the page "tags.php" is been rendered but without the URL parameters. This .htaccess file with the rules is within root for my sub-domain and has following content for tags postion. # Rewrite rule for tags RewriteRule ^tags/(\w+)/(\d+)/?$ tags.php?tag_name=$1&tag_id=$2 RewriteRule ^tags/(\w+)/?$ tags.php?tag_name=$1 RewriteRule ^tags/?$ tags.php?tag_name= Another problem that I ain't able to debug is that the similar .htaccess file exists for a directory within my sub domain and is working as expected with the necessary URL parameters also been available. • Registering domain during christmas holydays

  One of the domain names I tried to register previously has been blocked by a domain grabber two days prior to my own attempt. That was about 1 year ago. The attempt to buy the domain from that person failed due to a totally exaggerated price. So I dropped the issue and watched the domain (offered at sedo.com). As expected there were no more offers, the domain was not sold. Now I learn from the whois database that the registration of that domain name ends on 25.12.2012 (christmas holyday). This raises two questions for me, I fail to find reliable answers on the internet. So maybe someone experienced here can drop a statement or a hint: is it reasonable that the domain name in question really will be free again when that date mentioned in the whois database up to when the domain is registered has passed? I certainly know that the registration can be prolonged, that is not what I mean. I expect (hope) that that domain grabber does not extend the registration, since it costs money and effort and he failed to sell the domain. Provided this is the case and the domain registration is not prolonged, is that date mentioned reliable? Or might it just be some 'default' date? I would like to try to register that domain name as soon as it is unregistered. Since that domain grabber registered that domain only two days before my own registration attempt I would like to prevent such annoying interference next time. So I ask myself: is it possible to register a domain name on a holyday? I mean not to send an email to my provider to do so on that day or before, but to actually have to process taking place as not to wait for 1-2 days after the unregistration? My own provider which I am very happy with does not offer such service on a holyday (which is perfectly understandable). They are 'still checking' if they can offer something automatic. I researched and did not find an answer to the question if that is possible at all. Is an autoomatic registration attempt on a holyday possible? Where can I do that? Is that reliable? • Creating a Template Like System in cPanel

  I am creating a medium sized website using cPanel and their File Manager system and the majority of my pages are going to be the same with a different title and content section and I wanted to see if there is a system for making one general template file and then having all the other pages inherit from that file so all I have to do is have a content and title section and the rest of the links, headers, and whatnot can be changed throughout the site by just changing one file. Is there anything like this? I have used Jinaj2 in python and a few other systems for other server scripting languages but I am not sure how to implement it with cPanel.

  i'm sorry if this question is misplaced or doesn't belong here. I'm currently developing an app for android and IOS and of course i'm thinking about the best ways to market it. Last night I Google'd somebody else's app and the third link in was a Wikipedia page on it, I never even thought of apps having Wikipedia pages, but alas there it was. And of course it was very helpful in determining exactly what the app did and in what cases it was useful for (something that's absolutely crucial for potential customers to understand). So then I got to thinking that I should create a Wiki for my app, but how does Wikipedia apply SEO? I know that the question could be overly complicated or specific, i'm just looking for general answers. For instance when somebody Google's my app, where does Wikipedia display on the results? When I create a Wiki for my app, how do I ensure that the Wikipedia page shows in the search results (is there any way to do that? ) I'm sure i'll find all of this out later when I create a Wiki for my app, I guess i'm just asking this out of curiosity. So how does Wikipedia's search engine optimization work? (on a page by page basis)

Basically, if we were to accept payments for events on our website, via paypal (essentially a Buy it now! button), as a business, do we need a merchant's account, or will a regular bank account be acceptable? I may have some confusion in terms. My understanding is you need a merchant's account to accept credit card payments, but as we are using PayPal, is this necessary?   Can anyone recommend a simple message room (not chat room) which I can use for a private communication between my users. My idea: to grant some users (2-3 at the most) a specific privilege to talk privately in a message room. none of them would be administrator there. I need such features: - admin panel for adding users allowed to post messages in room - room invisible to anyone except users - filtering not-allowed words - Ajax-enabled so that replies appear immediately - other message room features I have a linux hosting so PHP message room would be the best option. That if all search results has encrypted with HTTPS protocol then how did Google analytics still able to track some of (20%) organic keywords details? • yahoo media player not working

  I have a yahoo media player embedded in my webpage. I am currently using Ruby on Rails to create/edit my web page. When i click the play button next to a track the YMP waits a while and then goes to the next track without playing the first one. I then get a warning on my second (last) track that its file could not be found. Does anyone has a better recommendation for an audio player or a way to fix this one?

  I'm using hidden forms, to collects some statistics. Will it have any penalty from search engines ? Update 1: I'm collecting some statistics, based on user interaction with my website. For example, POST requests will be sent to server, when: user stops a playing video user has watched a video till it's end etc. Using form_remote_for in Rails, i'm just rendering the form and keep it invisible. The reason on doing that - is to utilize authencity tokens, and just have less to code. Via JavaScript i'm only filling some hidden fields up and initiating form submission.

• Very few visitors on Analytics: incorrect setting?

  it's quite a long time Analytics is making me crazy: I have a 2 years old website, started with Aruba (an Italian provider) and then transfered on Hostgator. It's a blog Wordpress + MyBB forum, and on both the platforms I've the Analytics code in the footer. The problem is that the stats on Analytics are simply ridiculous compared to the numbers reported by the Aruba (before) and Hostgator (then). I think that the numbers of Aruba/Hostgator are correct, simply because just the daily users connected on the forum is higher than the Analytics numbers. I know it's a really confused request, but maybe you can help me to understand what's the problem.

• Google: What does a return to PR 'Unranked' mean?

  One of my sites is very new (about 3 months). When first launched it's pages had (unsurprisingly) a Google PR of 'Unranked' [From Google toolbar stats, via the firefox SearchStatus plugin]. After a few weeks these changed to PR0. Just recently I noticed that they are showing PR 'Unranked' once more in Google Toolbar. As far as I know I'm following the Google guidelines. Results for the site still seem to be showing for its keywords. What could this mean?

• Why is Joomla based website that was copied off of live server into localhost not showing pictures and throwing 404 error?

  I have copied Joomla based website via FTP onto my machine and I am trying to make it run on my localhost which is provided by the latest version of XAMPP. I have exported and imported the DB with no problems. I have placed all the files and folders into htdocs folder but when I go to localhost/examplesite all I get is the text that is on the front page but no pictures and it displays 404 Error. Do I need to make changes to .htaccess? If so, can some one point me to the right direction? Thanks
