• How to force MS Word 2010 to split words anywhere

  I want Microsoft Word 2010 to force split words exactly where the line ends, even if it is "wrong and unreadable". Font is some monotype (Courier New). The text is in Text field which has fixed width. I found some option in Text field Format - Wrap lines inside. But it only disables / enables whole wrapping. The text will be printed over uniform spaced boxes, each for one letter (postal order). Examples: Current: some text with | looooooooooong word | What i want: some text with looooooo | oooong word | I tried to google it for an hour, but everybody wants the exact opposite (hard spaces etc..)

• Can I set a hyperlink's display text from a document property?

  I'm trying to make a word document customizable through a document property that contains the base URL of all the links. I've managed to make the links themselves reference the document property like this: { HYPERLINK { QUOTE "http://{ DOCPROPERTY Host}/some/path" } } Changing the document property and updating the files makes the hyperlinks point to the correct URL. However, visually, nothing changes - the old URL is still shown as the display text of the hyperlink. Is there a way to make this work? Microsoft docs helpfully state You can edit the display text for the field by typing over it. but I can't figure out how that is supposed to work - even if I manually type over the hyperlink, it includes the edits in the field code instead of adjusting the display text. Currently attempting in Word 2002, but 2010 also available.

• MS Access ADP front end and SQL Server back end for field data collection?

  I am an anthropologist. I am going to the field and will use a netbook to collect survey data. The survey forms will need to allow me to enter data into multiple tables, search tables, allow subforms, and be fast enough to not slow down my interview. I have considered storing the data in a SQL Server Express 2008 R2 server (there will be a lot of data) while using a Microsoft Access data project as a front end. To cut down the number of steps required to collect and store data, I'm considering using the netbook for both data storage and collection (after reading this article about SQL Server on a netbook). My questions are: (1) Is there a simpler solution that is also gratis (gratis because I already have a MS Access license from my workplace, and SQL Server Express is, obviously, free)? (2) Does my idea to store and collect data using the netbook make sense? Thank you.

  I bought a laptop that came preinstalled with 2GB of RAM and Windows 7 Professional x86. I upgraded to 8GB RAM, and naturally want to install the x64 version of Windows. The laptop came without media, with the option to create a bootable restore disc, which is, of course Win7 x86. Question 1: does my Win7 license cover both x86 and x64 versions? Question 2: is there a legitimate way to acquire x64 install media (e.g. from Microsoft) for a nominal fee? (believe it or not, the laptop manufacturer support had the gall to suggest that I should have bought a differently configured machine in the first place) Thank you!

  So ill start from the very beginning. I'm working on a web conference were we are going to show about 12 videos for a total of about half a gig for all 12. Since all the participants are going to be watching (and also streaming/downloading) at once it was recommended we set up a server farm. So i have 4 servers that i am trying to network together. They are all running Microsoft Server 2008 and i have spent the last three days setting them up and now that its done i want to make sure its all ready to go. so i just want to be sure that everything is setup the way that i think it is. • Moving Mail between Exchange Mail Queues

  We have multiple Microsoft Exchange 2007 nodes and 2 Exchange hubs. One of our users unfortunately had their account compromised, which then sent out several thousand emails before we were able to stop them. During this time, however, several primary mail providers blocked one of our Exchange hubs as a spam source. We now have nearly 500 messages built up on the one hub server waiting to go out to a provider who is currently blocking that hub. I know it is possible to change the location of the mailqueue and I could copy the queue database over from one hub to another and than change the location the HUB is looking at to a different file - let the mail spool out and then change the location back, but I would like a cleaner solution. Therefore, the question: is there a way to quickly and easily move messages from one Exchange hub server to another Exchange hub server?

• How do you create a SQL query in Excel 2007 with a dynamic date range?

  I am trying to create a reporting spreadsheet that can print reports for a given time period. The query below works, but when I try to use a "?" parameter in place of the date, I get an error after selecting a cell containing my date. If I use single quotes ('?') I get a conversion from string to date/time failure, if I don't (?) I get a syntax error near @p1. Eventually I will need either a start and end date or a formula adding a month or shift to the starting date/time to filter the data down to important information. The query was built in Microsoft Query. SELECT FloatTable.DateAndTime, TagTable.TagName FROM master.dbo.FloatTable FloatTable, master.dbo.TagTable TagTable WHERE FloatTable.TagIndex = TagTable.TagIndex AND ((FloatTable.DateAndTime={ts '2012-06-01 00:00:00'})) Any assistance would be much appreciated. • Outlook stopped working after updating to Windows 8

  I downloaded Windows 8 update from Microsoft's site and installed it. Everything works perfectly except Outlook. Sometimes receiving messages doesn't work for whatever reason. Now the problem is sending and replying. Before these two worked but after receiving messages started to work, these problems have occurred. When I try to press New to create a new email, I get the following error message Cannot create the e-mail message because a data file to send and receive messages cannot be found. To add a data file, such as a personal folder file, double click the Mail icon in Windows Control. When I try to reply a message, I get the following one The operation failed. An object could not be found. After the update Outlook worked ok. I've had other problems with Outlook too.

If I create a hyperlink to a regular HTML file, when I click on the link, it opens in my default browser (Google Chrome) as expected. However, if I click on a link to a PDF file on a website, it opens in Internet Explorer.   I have a pivot table in Excel 2007 which I’ve pasted it into Word 2007 using Paste Special (Paste link) - Microsoft Office Excel Worksheet Object. The pivot table appears in Word and the link to Excel is working. The problem is that if the pivot table expands (for example, due to showing 12 months of data rather than six months) the link to the pivot table in Word will only show the range cells that were originally copied over with the pivot table. I understand why this happens. When I paste as a link to Word the underling field codes look like this: {LINK Excel.Sheet.8 "C:\Users\myAccount\Documents\testexcel.xlsx" "Sheet2!R1C1:R8C2" \a \p} The codes refer to a fixed area (e.g., Sheet2!R1C1:R8C2 ) of the Excel spreadsheet, and so when the pivot table expands, the expanded cells fall outside the area that is defined in the field codes. Is there some way to have the link refer to the pivot table itself rather than the cell range that happened to be originally copied over from Excel?

When I double-click on it though, it opens up the VBA editor. Do I have to add the items programatically as per the following question How do I add a combobox in Word? or is it possible to do this using the UI? The other question/answer refers to creating a form. Is there a step I've missed between creating a .dot to then create a form somehow before adding form elements to it? • 'Unlimited' free trial of Windows Server 2008 by deleting and reinstalling VM? [closed]

  I am using Virtual Machine software (VirtualBox) to learn Windows Server 2008 R2 Network Infrastructure (70-642). Trouble is - I'm learning at an extremely slow pace and so the trial periods of my virtual machines are close to running out. If I delete the VMs then install WS2008R2 from scratch on new VMs is that violating the acceptable use policy of Microsoft? I am aware that I can extend the trial, but it seems I can only do that by 10 days at a time. Also I think having to re-install from scratch is a good way to reinforce the knowledge.

  Flash fill breaks a lot of things in older excel documents. It causes maddeningly slow transfers from cell to cell after updating. I am trying to find a way to turn off "flash fill" in Excel 2013 automatically before rolling the product out to the rest of the staff in my company. Is there (preferably) a registry key that I can apply or a switch that I can include during the install that will turn this option off?   I want to only link, not embed, pictures in my Word document. Yet I got a lot of images to insert! And I want to spare me the additional click into the dropdown menu one and for all, so the question is, is there any way to set "link image(s)" as default? Because I didn't find anything in the Word settings, only totally useless detail settings. The preference file is: ~/Library/Preferences/com.microsoft.office.plist The property keys take the form: 2008\File Aliases\{APP}{n} 2008\MRU Access Date\{APP}{n} where {APP} represents an Office application, and {n} represents a number starting from 0. The applications are represented by the following values: MSWD (Word) XCEL (Excel) What value represents PowerPoint? In the property list I've seen, the numbers represented by {n} range from 0-10 (11 items). Is 10 the limit? or is this unrestrained? Finally, I've noticed that Office 2011 does not add its Recent Items to the Apple System menu: Apple > Recent Items Is Office 2008 the same?

  How would one go about customising the on screen keyboard on a Microsoft Surface Pro? I've noticed that it doesn't have an alt or Esc key and I can't think of any good reason why those keys, among others, should not be there. In particular I want to use keys such as [ and ]. Also there are no up and down arrow keys. I already have a type cover but sometimes I'd like to use those keys without having the type cover attached. Ideally I'd like a way to enable those missing keys and perhaps to remove the ones that I don't want, such as the emoticon key.

• Auto load balancing two node Cluster Hyper-v 2008 R2 enterprise?

  My setup is a 2 node cluster with 72GB ram each and a ~10TB MD3000i Iscsi SAN. I have about 30VMs running I keep about 15 on either server. I do a live migration to the other server if I need to run updates or whatever... Either one of the servers is able of running all VM if needed, but the cpu is pretty high. Here's my issues. I know Hyper-v has a limit of a single Live-migration at a time. But Why doesn't it queue them up to move one at a time? If I multi select I don't get the option to live migrate a one at a time. OR if I'm in the process of Migrating one it will give me an error that it's currently migrating a VM... Is there a button I missed that will tell a Node that it needs to migrate all the VMs elsewhere? Another question, does anyone know whats the best way to load balance VMs based on CPU and/or network utilzation. I have some VMs that don't do much. and some that trash the CPU or network. I'd like to balance it out on both servers if at all possible. and Is there any way to automate it? last question... If I overcommit my Cluster is there a way to tell the cluster that I want certian VMs the be running and to savestate other VMs based on availible system resources? Say when my one node blue screens and the other node begins starting the VMs up. I want the unimportant ones to shutdown or savestate so the important ones can stay running or come back online. • Change the Default Date setting in Word 2010

  I am using Word 2010 and Windows 7. You know how when you start typing a date in Word it will automatically suggest what it thinks you want? Like if I start typing “6/29”, a little grey bubble will display “6/29/13 (Press ENTER to Insert)”. How do I get it so the bubble will display the year in a 4 digit format, such as "6/29/2013 (Press Enter to Insert)"? The below picture is how it looks when typing a date into Word. I have already gone to the Date & Time option under the Insert menu and the date format that I want is already selected. I think this is only for using quickparts anyway, so the date automatically updates when you open a document. The Region and Language settings under the Control Panel are correct as well. I thought at one point I found it somewhere under options, but I am sure I looked through everything many times and I can’t find it. I posted this exact question at the Microsoft website and someone replied: Go to the Windows Control Panel and click on Clock, Language and Region and then on Change the date, time, or number format and then modify the Short date format so that it is what you want to be used. So please don't suggest this again, because in my question I did say that I already tried this and it doesn't work, at least not for Word, in this situation. Thanks.

• Surface (Pro) Soft Keyboard + Hardware Keyboard Issue

  When I got my Surface Pro 2, I loved it, and everything seemed to work flawlessly, until, wait for it, windows updates... The issue that I am having is the following, I primarily use the TC (TypeCover), as the Pro is an out-of-office laptop replacement for me, that I can still use to do whatever I need, but there are times when I will flip the cover, and use the system in tablet mode. The problem is that even when the TC is attached, any text field I click on, causes the OSK (on screen keyboard) to appear, as if I was running the system in tablet mode. As soon as I press a single button on the TC, the OSK is dismissed. When I first got the system, this was NOT the case, and it functioned as it should, where the OSK will only appear if the TC was not present. The biggest problem that I am having is the fact that the OSK causes the windows to be resized. Maximized windows will be shrunk, and stretched to their previous state, however a window that is not maximized will stay in its shrunken state, after the OSK has been dismissed. Below are pictures that show what is happening. Has anyone else experienced this issue? And is there any way to fix it? As you might imagine, having spent a pretty penny on a device like this, it it quite an annoying bug that needs fixing. I have been dealing with this issue for about 3 months now.

• Word 2003 will not show up in Windows 7

  I just installed Windows 7 over the holiday and it went swimmingly well. Today I finished up a few things like installed MS Office 2003. That went well too, until I tried to open up Word. When I try to open up Word on its own, it comes up in the application bar but the application window does not show. I use Word as the editor in Outlook which does work. I also discovered that I can start it up in safe mode and it will work normally. But normal startup just doesn't show me anything. Oddly, if I start typing stuff while the app is selected in the app bar and then try to close it, it pops up a message asking if I want to save it. I tried running the compatibility utility within Windows 7 but still no dice. Has anybody seen this issue yet? The other Office apps start normally. Edit: More info: Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. Office is patched up to SP3. And last time I checked, there were no updates either (and fully updated with KBs after SP3) And I did a fresh install of Windows 7.

• Word 2010 header "different first page" option does not work if you select the same built-in header preset?

  I have a three page Word 2010 document. I have set a header on the first page and marked the "different first page" option to make the follow page headers different. It works as expected so long as I don't select the same built-in header preset for the following pages. Here's what I am doing: Check mark different first page. Make the header for the first page using Alphabet preset. Attempt to make the header for the following pages by starting with the same Alphabet preset. I only want to change the text of the following headers but still want the same graphical effects. Click off the header into the body of the document. Upon doing this the headers on the first page are updated to the ones I just made for the following pages. I don't I am doing something wrong because I can choose a different header preset and it will work as expected. If I select the same preset, however, it updates all headers, whether the "different on first page" is selected or not. If this is repeatable on others' computers the I would say it's a word bug. If not then please help me figure out how to get this working right.

  We're trying to figure out how to drag an item from a LibraryStack container onto a ScatterView, like how the photo viewer sample applications work. Currently, the item just flies back into the LibraryStack after we drag it out. We can drag and drop items into other LibraryStacks or LibraryBars.
