• Installing CXF with Eclipse 3.5

  As per http://help.eclipse.org/helios/topic/org.eclipse.jst.ws.cxf.doc.user/reference/preferences.html The CXF 2.x preferences can be accessed via Window > Preferences... > Web Services > CXF 2.x Preferences from the top level menu. but I dont see the option CXF 2.x Preferences under Web Services, though I have chosen JavaEE perspective. any ideas how to enable this? Sorry for such a simple question. I also cannot do not see CXF as a Project Facet as per http://help.eclipse.org/helios/index.jsp?topic=/org.eclipse.jst.ws.jaxws.doc.user/gettingstarted/requirements.html I know this is something to do with getting Eclipse aware of CXF libraries, but cant find the tutorial for this.

• Slowness of Netbeans Platform Apps - how to mitigate?

  Hi, We are developing a commerical application (pretty complex) in java using Netbeans IDE. We have 2 options in netbeans to create it- 1. Develop Java desktop app 2. Netbeans Platform app We have requirement that application startup and response times should be very very fast, should be modular etc. We did Proof of Technology by creating apps using both approaches mentioned above. We found Netbeans platform apps are very slow during startup and during screen navigation compared to pure Swing based desktop apps. We tried to implement suggestions provided at http://wiki.netbeans.org/Category:Performance:FAQ and in other blogs and forums to improve on speed of the app but were not successful. We feel for creating a complex desktop app Netbeans platform app would be better suited, but its not meeting our performance requirements (startup and response times, memory footprints, CPU usage guidelines etc). Can any one guide us on how to mitigate our problem of improving performance of Netbeans Platforms apps? Thanks in advance for your help. -bhan

  Setup I am using Sparx Systems Enterprise Architect Professional edition 7.5: http://www.sparxsystems.com.au/ and MS PowerPoint. Problem I have various audiences for presentations requiring display in MS PowerPoint -- ranging from managers to developers, whose depth of technical knowledge and requirements for knowledge varies. Question I have tried various settings for fonts, colors, and so on, but displaying a diagram with any level of detail (even simple class diagrams). These diagrams are very difficult to fit into a PowerPoint slide and render well when using a projector or a Live Meeting. Am I on the wrong path here, or is there a better/correct way to accomplish this? Thank you for the help, -bn

• Headless HTML rendering to image on CentOS 5.4

  Hello, I have a project requirement to render HTML and capture the rendered image as a file on a headless CentOS 5.4 server. My specific requirements are: 1) Input will be a URL to the page to render, output will be an image file containing the rendered image of the page 2) CSS must be supported by the renderer up to CSS level-1 3) Static images in the page must be displayed properly in the rendered image, including any transparent color in .GIF files 4) Must be able to run on a headless CentOS 5.4 server. 5) Solution must not depend on any product or component that is not free for commercial use I do not need to do anything with the page other than get the screen capture and save it to an image. The hard part seems to be doing this in a headless environment. Some of the solutions that I've seen discussed need a display in order to work. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance, Jim

  I'm trying to follow this documentation on Symfony : http://symfony.com/doc/current/book/forms.html ok so here is my thing, I've externalised my form and created a specific form class for handling the process and being able to reuse it. So what happen when I submit the form, whatever the info are okay or not for my class, I get this fatal Error : Fatal error: Call to a member function setAttribute() on a non-object in C:\Program Files (x86)\wamp\www\QNetworks\vendor\symfony\src\Symfony\Component\Form\Extension\Core\DataTransformer\NumberToLocalizedStringTransformer.php on line 130 Call Stack I'm running with php 5.3.9 and my intl extension is installed and activated BUT when I run the app/check.php command I see : [[WARNING]] Checking that the intl extension is available: FAILED * Install and enable the intl extension (used for validators) * So I don't understand what the problem with this extension. Should I reinstall it ? When I go here : http://php.net/manual/en/intl.requirements.php I see tht i can install the PECL or the ICU library, but i don't know if I should and if there is any relation with my problem ..   Given a classes Foo, Bar which have hibernate mappings to tables Foo, A, B and C public class Foo { Integer aid; Integer bid; Integer cid; ...; } public class Bar { A a; B b; C c; ...; } I build a List fooList of an arbitrary size and I would like to use hibernate to fetch List where the resulting list will look something like this: Bar[1] = [X1,Y2,ZA,...] Bar[2] = [X1,Y2,ZB,...] Bar[3] = [X1,Y2,ZC,...] Bar[4] = [X1,Y3,ZD,...] Bar[5] = [X2,Y4,ZE,...] Bar[6] = [X2,Y4,ZF,...] Bar[7] = [X2,Y5,ZG,...] Bar[8] = ... Where each Xi, Yi and Zi represents a unique object. I know I can iterate fooList and fetch each List and call barList.addAll(...) to build the result list with something like this: List<bar> barList.addAll(s.createQuery("from Bar bar where bar.aid = :aid and ... ") .setEntity("aid", foo.getAid()) .setEntity("bid", foo.getBid()) .setEntity("cid", foo.getCid()) .list(); ); Is there any easier way, ideally one that makes better use of hibernate and make a minimal number of database calls? Am I missing something? Is hibernate not the right tool for this?

I’m looking for a solution for this problem: My model looks like this: class Song(models.Model): Album = models.ForeignKey(Album) class Artist(models.Model): album = models.ForeignKey(Album) song = models.ForeignKey(Song, blank=True, null=True) So the user has to define a topic. He can also define a subtopic but doesn’t have to. The subtopic belongs to a topic. In the admin interface I’d like to limit the choices for subtopic based upon what he selects in topics. That should change dynamically with AJAX. I will have a closer look to django-ajax-filtered-fields but didn’t find a solution to that specific problem. Perhaps it’s another usecase for django-ajax-filtered-fields in general? Or do you know another solution to my specific requirements?

  We've started using the ASP.NET recaptcha control and it works fine. but one of the requirements we have is that all outbound traffic goes over Https. I know that recaptcha supports https, but It's not clear how to configure (or even if it is configurable) when using the ASP.NET plugin option. has anyone got any experience of this? I'll expand a little on what I've found so far.... The Recaptcha package contains 3 public classes RecaptchaControl, RecaptchaValidator and RecaptchaResponse RecaptchaControl is an Asp.NET control, the recaptcha specific methods on there seem to be concerning themes/look and feel. An instance of the Validator has a RemoteIP field (which I presume would represent the verification server), but I can't a way of binding that to the control. RecaptchaResponse seems to more or less represent an enum with possible responses (valid/invalid/failed to connect).

• Is it possible to modify ASP.NET to no longer require runat="server"?

  I know why runat="server" is currently required (ASP.NET why runat="server"), but the consensus is that it should not be required if you incorporate a simple default into the design (I agree of course). Would it be possible to modify, extend, decompile and recreate, intercept or otherwise change the behavior of how ASP.NET parses ASPX and ASCX files so that runat="server" would no longer be required? For instance, I assume that a version of Mono could be branched to accomplish this goal. • Javascript/Canvas/Images scaling problem in Firefox

  I have a problem with the context2d's drawImage function. Whenever I scale an image, it gets a dark border of one pixel, which is kind of ugly. That does only happen in Firefox, not in Opera or Webkit. Is this an antialiasing problem? For hours I studied the examples and available documentation without getting rid of it... I couldn't yet try it on another computer so maybe just maybe it's an issue with the graphics hardware/drivers.   Hello, I'm working on C++ project that is supposed to run on both Win32 and Linux, the software is to be deployed to small computers, usually working in remote locations. Recently, our client has requested that we introduce access control via password protection. We are to meet the following criteria : Support remote login Support remote password change Support remote password retrieval Support data retrieval on accidental/purposeful deletion Support secure storage I'm capable of meeting the "remote" requirements using an existing library, however what I do need to consider is a method of storing this data, preferably in a way that will work on both platforms and will not let the user see it/read it, encryption is not the issue here - it's the storage method itself. Can anyone recommend a sage storage method that could help me meet those criteria?

• killing a separate thread having a socket

  Hi All I have a separate thread ListenerThread having a socket listening to info broadcasted by some remote server. This is created at the constructor of one class I need to develop. Because of requirements, once the separate thread is started I need to avoid any blocking function on the main thread. Once it comes to the point of calling the destructor of my class I cannot perform a join on the listener thread so the only thing I can do is to KILL it. My questions are: what happens to the network resoruces allocated by the function passed to the thead? Is the socket closed properly or there might be something pending? ( most worried about this ) is this procedure fast enough i.e. is the thread killed so that interrupt immediately ? I am working with Linux ...what command or what can I check to ensure that there is no networking resource left pending or that something went wrong for the Operating system I thank you very much for your help Regards MNSTN NOTE: I am using boost::thread in C++

• What is a good automated data import method for SQL Server?

  I'm in the process of porting some SQL Server 2005 databases to SQL Server 2008. One of these databases has an associated import application (Windows task) which uses SSIS with a DTS package to import a large dataset from an MS Access database nightly. In upgrading to SQL Server 2008, I discovered that I can't run the same console application which has been performing the imports due to the missing manageddts DLL in SQL Server 2008. It's several years old and in need of a rewrite for various reason, plus, I've been fairly unhappy with DTS in general. The original reason DTS was chosen was for speed (5 min import time compared to 30+ for ADO.NET). The format of the data to import is out of my control (the client likes Access). I would also like to be able to run the import from a machine completely separate from the server hosting SQL Server and preferably with minimal SQL features installed. Options I've considered: Creating an Access application to connect to both databases (SQL Server and Access) and perform the import (Ugh!) Revisiting ADO.NET to see if the original implementation was poorly written. Updated SSIS packages. What other technologies should I be considering for this job?

  In an ASP.NET MVC application (which has very little chance of having its view technology ported to something non-HTML, but whose functional requirements evolve weekly,) how much HTML should ideally be allowed to be directly represented in the Model? I might come across as a design bigot for this, but I regard it as bad practice to allow any view constructs to "leak" into the model in an MVC application (and vice versa). For example, a Model that represents an item you're about to purchase should know nothing about the HTML check box that says "add giftwrap/message", nor should it know about any HTML drop down lists for payment card types. Conversely the View shouldn't be doing work like figuring out button text by translating keys into values (by looking in resource files.)

  I am designing a data model for a local city page, more like requirements for it. So 4 tables: Country, State, City, neighbourhood. Real life relationships is: Country owns multiple State which owns multiple cities which ows multiple neighbourhoods. In the data model: Do we link these with FK the same way or link each with each? Like in each table there will even be a Country ID, State ID, CityID and NeighbourhoodID so each connected with each? Other wise to reach neighbourhood from country we need to join 2 other tables in between? There are more tables I need to maintain for IP addess of cities, latitude/longitude, etc.

But the editor should support some standard functionality such as syntax highlighting, auto completion and maybe search & replace.   Can someone please explain in easy terms what is static library linking vs dynamic library linking other one has a larger memory map than the other or that the static library is used to compile/link with the program that will use it versus being loaded at runtime? I also need to create a static library of a program that I made in vs2008 and give one function interface to access the library. one of the requirements reads as such " * API should be in the form of static library. company xxx will link the library into a third party application to prevent any possible exposure of the code(dll)" how can they say both static and dll at the same time. I have never works with static library before. So please any help would be nice.

Basically, the requirements are: No unnecessary runtime overhead: whatever can be done at compile time, should be done at compile time. Ability to transparently switch code between fixed and floating point, with no inherent overhead. Fixed point math functions. There's no much point using fixed point if you need to cast back and forth in order to take a square root. Small footprint. Any suggestions?

  I have got a table which contains 5 column and query requirements: update row no 8 (or id=8) set its column 2, column 3's value from id 9th column 2, column 3 value. means all value of column 2, 3 should be shifted to column 2, 3 of upper row (start from row no 8) and value of last row's 2, 3 will be null For example, with just 3 rows, the first row is untouched, the second to N-1th rows are shifted once, and the Nth row has nulls. id math science sst hindi english 1 11 12 13 14 15 2 21 22 23 24 25 3 31 32 33 34 35 The result of query of id=2 should be: id math science sst hindi english 1 11 12 13 14 15 2 31 32 23 24 25 //value of 3rd row (col 2,3) shifted to row 2 3 null null 33 34 35 This process should run for all rows whose id 2 Please help me to create this update query I am using MS sqlserver 2005

• Flex 3 Regular Expression Problem

  I've written a url validator for a project I am working on. For my requirements it works great, except when the last part for the url goes longer than 22 characters it breaks. My expression: /((https?):\/\/)([^\s.]+.)+([^\s.]+)(:\d+\/\S+)/i It expects input that looks like "http(s)://hostname:port/location". When I give it the input: https://demo10:443/111112222233333444445 it works, but if I pass the input https://demo10:443/1111122222333334444455 it breaks. You can test it out easily at http://ryanswanson.com/regexp/#start. Oddly, I can't reproduce the problem with just the relevant (I would think) part /(:\d+\/\S+)/i. I can have as many characters after the required / and it works great. Any ideas or known bugs?

• Can you open an SPSite object while being within a different site collection?

  I'm working on creating a common navigation experience across two site collections in MOSS 2007. I've looked around for various solutions and haven't found anything that fits. Our navigation is dynamic and driven by a number of factors, including audience targeting. Most of what I've found relates to having static XML and that just won't work for our requirements. What I'm down to at the moment is just getting a navigation item from site collection A while in the context of site collection B. Are there reasons I shouldn't be able to just open a navigation item from site collection A and gets its audience? Certainly there could be permissions problems on my end, or code related issues, or things that are in my control. What I'm wondering is if there's something inherent to SharePoint that would not allow this. Something I don't have control over which would force me to travel a different path.
