  I am using a simple search that displays search results: @adds = Add.search(params[:search]) In addition to the search results I'm trying to utilize a method, nearbys(), which displays objects that are close in proximity to the search result. The following method displays objects which are close to 2, but it does not display object 2. How do I display object 2 in conjunction with the nearby objects? @adds = Add.find(2).nearbys(10) While the above code functions, when I use search, @adds = Add.search(params[:search]).nearbys(10) a no method error is returned, undefined methodnearbys' for Array:0x30c3278` How can I search the model for an object AND use the nearbys() method AND display all results returned?

• AuthLogic perishable_token resets on every request

  In my User model I have: acts_as_authentic do |c| c.perishable_token_valid_for = 30.minutes end In my Application Controller I have the standard boilerplate code: def current_user_session return @current_user_session if defined?(@current_user_session) @current_user_session = UserSession.find end def current_user return @current_user if defined?(@current_user) @current_user = current_user_session && current_user_session.record end Now in my view I need to see if a user is logged in: <% if current_user %> Sign Out <% else %> Sign In <% end %> On every single request, current_user is being called, and that causes a SELECT call to be made to the database to find the user, then an UPDATE call that updates the last_request_at and perishable_token even though I set perishable_token_valid_for = 30.minutes. Does anyone have a better way to see if a user is logged in without causing a SELECT and UPDATE on every single page of my app. Does anyone know why the perishable token keeps updating even if I set it to be valid for 30 minutes???

  I have a Category class that is defined like this: class Catergoy < ActiveRecord::Base acts_as_tree :parent_id I'd like the ordering to be by the position value which is a float such that: category-1 category-2, parent_id=1, position=0.5 category-3, parent_id=2, category-4, parent_id=1, position=1 How would I specify this? I tried acts_as_tree :parent_id :order => :position acts_as_tree :parent_id, :order => :position but these are not working. Any ideas how to specify this relationship? Or if I'm missing something else? thx in advance

• acts_as_solr returns all rows in the database when using the model as search query

  In our application we're using acts_as_solr for search. Everything seems to be running smoothly except for the fact that using the model name as the search query returns every single row in the table. For example, let's say we have a users table. We specify acts_as_solr in our model to search the fields first name, last name and handle acts_as_solr :fields = [:handle, :lname, :fname]. When you use "user" as the search term it returns every single user in the system, or every row in the database as a result. Has anyone else run into this?

• How to pre-check checkboxes in formtastic

  I have a form I'm trying to set up ... Users can have many posts, and each post can have many people watching it. The Watch model is set up polymorphically as 'watchable' so it can apply to different types of models. It has a user_id, watchable_id, watchable_type and timestamps as attributes/fields. This is soley so that when people comment on a post, users watching the post can get an email about it. What I'm trying to do is show the user a list of users that they can tag on each post, which is not problem. This is what I'm using right now http://pastie.org/940421 The problem with this, is that when you go to edit an update/post ... all the checkboxes are prechecked ... I want it to pre-check only users who are currently watching the post.

Before: class UsersController < ApplicationController before_filter :find_user def find_user @user = User.find(params[:id]) end end ... After class FindUserFilter def self.filter(controller) @user = User.find(params[:id]) end end class UsersController < ApplicationController before_filter FindUserFilter end class GuestbookController < ApplicationController before_filter FindUserFilter end This results in an error because neither params[:id] nor @user is available/definable in the FindUserFilter-class. Any idea how to fix this?

  I have a form that has a radio button on it (Formtastic), and It works just fine with the :collection I'm passing. The problem is I want some part of the text to be affected by some CSS, but the :collection attribute does not let me put in HTML. • CarrierWave and nested forms saving empty image object if photo :title is included in form

  I'm after some advice in regards to handling nested form data and I would be ever so grateful for any insights. The trouble is I'm not 100% sure why I require the following code in my model accepts_nested_attributes_for :holiday_image, allow_destroy: true, :reject_if => lambda { |a| a[:title].blank? } If I don't understand why I require to tact on on my accepts_nested_attributes_for association: :reject_if => lambda { |a| a[:title].blank? } If I remove this :reject_if lambda, it will save a blank holiday photo object in the database. I presume because it takes the :title field from the form as an empty string? I guess my question is, am I doing this right or is there a better way of this this within nested forms if I want to extend my HolidayImage model to include more strings like description, notes? Sorry If I can't be more succinct.   I have an ActiveRecord model class Foo that has_many Bar. I want to clone a Foo (to get duplicates of most of its attributes) and then modify its Bar instances. This is a problem because cloned ActiveRecord instances share the same associated array; changes to one affect the other. f1 = Foo.new b = Bar.new f1.bars << b f2 = f1.clone f2.bars.includes? b # true f1.bars.clear f2.bars.includes? b # now false The real problem is that I can't detach the bars arrays from either Foo: f1.bars << b f2.bars.includes? b # true f2.bars = [] f2.bars.includes? b # now false f1.bars.includes? b # now also false If I could do that, then I could replace the Bars as I wanted to. However, any change to one Foo seems to affect the other.

  I've got several models that I'd like to relate together hierarchically. For simplicity's sake, let's say I've got these three: class Group < ActiveRecord::Base acts_as_tree has_many :users end class User < ActiveRecord::Base acts_as_tree belongs_to :group has_many :posts end class Post < ActiveRecord::Base acts_as_tree belongs_to :user end Under the current acts_as_tree, each node can individually can relate hierarchically to other nodes provided they are of the same type. What I'd like is to remove this restriction on type identity, so that SomePost.parent could have a User or a Post as its' parent, and that SomeUser.parent could have another user or a group as its parent. Any thoughts?

How should I use protect_from_forgery and how can I check if data received from valid domain?   I've been searching on how to solve this issue but could not find any real and working solution. User model: validates_attachment_content_type :avatar, :content_type = ['image/jpeg', 'image/pjpeg', 'image/x-png', 'image/png', 'image/gif'] Unnecessary error shows up when invalid file type is uploaded: Avatar /tmp/sample,23283,0.txt is not recognized by the 'identify' command. Server details: Ubuntu and Debian which identify results to /usr/bin/identify Specifying command path does not solve the issue: Paperclip.options[:command_path] = "/usr/bin" Any ideas?
