  Just a simple question, i've been searching around and for some reason i cannot find an answer to this. after creating a database/table in Phpmyadmin using xampp, what command do i need to put into my webpage (PHP) to show the table I made? I know the first step involves connecting to the database and i think i've done that properly. • RoR live-search (text_field_with_auto_complete) submit.

  I have a "Movies" and a "Actors" table and "Casts" as join-model. To be more specific "Casts" has movie_id, actor_id and rolename. I want in "Movies" form to add a live search to search through actors and a "rolename" text_field and save those to "Casts". I don't know if text_field_with_auto_complete is the right choice but i prefer not to use much javascript because i am not familiar with it. I've been searching all over the internet to find something similar to this without any result. I've manage to get it working with "@actors.each do" but it makes a very long list.

• iPhone SDK: Keep an image from scrolling with a UIScrollView

  Hi, I've been searching all over for an easy way to do this. Right now I have a UIScrollView setup as my main view. There's an Image on the left and a column of TextFields on the right. When any TextField is tapped, the keyboard comes up and hides the bottom TextField. So I have the ScrollView move up to unhide the bottom TextField. Question #1: Is there a way to have it respond to a specific TextField instead of all of them? Question #2: Is there a way to keep the Image on the left static so it doesn't move with the TextFields? • Need guidance for my first Android application: how many activities should I use?

  Hi, I'm starting Android doing an application for searching restaurants, and some guidance would be welcome! On the first screen I'd like to have a search field with a submit button (I get the data from a web service), and below a list with the results of the search. When clicking on one of the items of the list it will show a screen with the restaurant details as well as a map showing its location. My questions are: Can I do everything in one single activity or should I do an activity for the search, one for the result list, one for the restaurant description, and another for the map? Would doing one single activity make the application more responsive? How can I use a list and a map within a normal activity (without ListActivity and MapActivity)? • Simple Sinatra Ajax Not Working

  I was trying make an AJAX call from a static file on my computer to a simple sinatra service. The ajax call was returning with an error and no details. The server logged no errors either. Another strange symptom was that the Origin in the request header was null. I turns out that you can't make cross domain ajax calls without a little extra effort. You can set the Access-Control-Allow-Origin header on your sinatra response to expose your service to external domains using a snippet like this: get '/hi' do response['Access-Control-Allow-Origin'] = '*' content_type 'text/plain' "Hello World" end There's also another header you can set to allow other HTTP Methods besides gets, Access-Control-Request-Method. You can find more information by searching around for CORS: Cross Origin Resource Sharing and the previously mentioned headers. Oh, and in case you want to do this in Rails as well you can do something like this in your controller: after_filter :set_access_control_headers def set_access_control_headers headers['Access-Control-Allow-Origin'] = '*' headers['Access-Control-Request-Method'] = '*' end

• MySQL search help.

  Hi, I am using php/mysql for a search. My table is 'height' and data type = varchar(10) which contains value like (5ft 2in, 5ft 3in,...and so on). While searching I got 2 values - height1 and height2 which are basically the ranges. How can i search in that table with the ranges? say - i will give ranges 5ft 1in to 5ft 10in and want to get the data between those values. I am using php. Please help me about this. thanks.

• CUDA Global Memory, Where is it?

  I understand that in CUDA's memory hierachy, we have things like shared memory, texture memory, constant memory, registers and of course the global memory which we allocate using cudaMalloc(). I've been searching through whatever documentations I can find but I have yet to come across any that explicitly explains what is the global memory. I believe that the global memory allocated is on the GDDR of graphics card itself and not the RAM that is shared with the CPU since one of the documentations did state that the pointer cannot be dereferenced by the host side. Am I right?

• Javascript === vs == : Does it matter which "equal" operator I use?

  I'm using JSLint to go through some horrific JavaScript at work and it's returning a huge number of suggestions to replace == with === when doing things like comparing 'idSele_UNVEHtype.value.length == 0' inside of an if statement. I'm basically wondering if there is a performance benefit to replacing == with ===. Any performance improvement would probably be welcomed as there are hundreds (if not thousands) of these comparison operators being used throughout the file. I tried searching for relevant information to this question, but trying to search for something like '=== vs ==' doesn't seem to work so well with search engines...

  I have to develop a new (desktop) app for a small business. This business currently has an Access database with millions of records. The file size is about 1.5 GB. The boss told me that searching on this DB is very slow. The DB consists of a single table with about 20 fields. I also think the overall DB design isn't great. I thought to use another DB server with a new design to improve both performance and efficiency. Considering this is a relatively small business, I don't want to spend much for a DB license, so I want to ask you what would you do. Continue to use Access, maybe improving and optimizing the DB in some way Buy a DB server license (in this case, which one?) ? (any idea?)

  Hello there, I want to do a project Hadoop and map reduce and present it as my graduation project. To this, I've given some thought,searched over the internet and came up with the idea of implementing some basic knowledge mining algorithms say on a social websites like Facebook or may stckoverflow, Quora etc and draw some statistical graphs, comparisons frequency distributions and other sort of important values.For searching purpose would it be wise to use Apache Solr ? I want know If such thing is feasible using the above mentioned tools, if so how should I build up on this little idea? Where can I learn about knowledge mining algorithms which are easy to implement using java and map reduce techniques? In case this is a wrong idea please suggest what else can otherwise be done on using Hadoop and other related sub-projects? Thank you

  Hi all, In one of my latest projects I use Solr 1.4 for searching products.However I have ran into a slight problem, which I aint sure if its possible to do using Solr. All products are indexed by "country" and "category" and the "id", "class" and "description" are stored values. I now have been requested to extract a sample list of products that we have for a give "category" and "ONLY RETURNING ONE" product for each country where the product is available. In my current implementation, I have a dismax query to get a list of all the countries that correspond to the catergory, then I call again solr to extract all products for each country, limiting the no. rows by the size of the countries found in the previous query. The problem I have with this current implementation is I can not be certain that I have one product for each country in the list. Therefore would anyone know if it possible to tell solr that you want only one product per country provided in the query? Any guidance would be useful.

  I've been searching google a lot for this issue and really found nothing. People just keep copying MySQL documentation on last_insert_id and nothing else. I've got an issue regarding last_insert_id, because for both situations (php & sql) it returns 0. YES: I've set a PRIMARY & UNIQUE field with AUTO_INCREMENT value YES: i've done some inserting before NO: Making double query with INSERT AND SELECT LAST... doesn't work. I've created a class Db for maintaining connection & query: class Db { public function connect() { $db = new mysqli('','','','',''); ... return $db; } public function insert() { $this->connect()->query("INSERT INTO bla bla..."); return $this->connect()->insert_id; } } And it doesn't work.

• How to handle uncaught Exceptions in javascript without a try/catch-block?

  What i try to accomplish is to register a global handler to catch all uncaught exceptions. Searching the web i only managed to find people pointing out window.onerror but this doesn't do the trick for me. Apparently window.onerror only gets called upon errors and not upon exceptions. Assume the following code: function windowError(message, url, line) { alert(message, url, line); } window.onerror=windowError; throw("uncaught"); The obviously uncaught exception won't trigger the windowError handler. (Using Firefox 3.6.3) Any suggestions?

• "Remember" last three MySql queries; Cookie, passed variable or other method?

  I have a classified website, with pretty sophisticated searching, and I am about to implement a function where the last three queries is displayed for the user, so that the user can go back easier through the queries. This because for each query the user has to provide a lot of input. I have four questions for you: I wonder, how can I save the actual query (SELECT * FROM etc etc)...? Do I need to add some form of encryption to be on the safe side? How will this affect performance? (I don't like the fact that cookies slow websites down) Anything else to think about? • [C++] Start a thread using a method pointer

I'm trying to develop a thread abstraction (POSIX thread and thread from the Windows API), and I would very much like it to be able to start them with a method pointer, and not a function pointer. What I would like to do is an abstraction of thread being a class with a pure virtual method "runThread", which would be implanted in the future threaded class. I don't know yet about the Windows thread, but to start a POSIX thread, you need a function pointer, and not a method pointer. And I can't manage to find a way to associate a method with an instance so it could work as a function. I probably just can't find the keywords (and I've been searching a lot), I think it's pretty much what Boost::Bind() does, so it must exist. Can you help me ?

• Manager property is not available for Full Text Search (SharePoint 2010)

  Hi, I had created a web part on MOSS 2007 which displays a organizational chart by searching (Full Text) the user profiles. To identify the subordinates of a user, I used to search for users with the particular user in Manager property. The query looked like this: SELECT AccountName, PreferredName, Manager, WorkEmail FROM scope() WHERE ("SCOPE" = 'People') AND Manager = 'domain\parent_user' But, the same query does not run in SharePoint 2010 as Manager crawled property does not exists. So, I created a new crawled property and mapped it to People:Manager(Text) now, the Manager property is always empty. Even a full crawl after clearing the indexes also not helping. Can anyone please help me in getting manager information in Full Text Search? Thanks in advance!

  I have been searching around and I cannot figure out how to sumarise the data I have in my data frame (subject to some ranges). I know that it can be done when applying some combination of daaply/taaply or table but I haven't been able to get the exact result I was expecting. Basically I want to turn this: part_no val1 val2 val3 2 1 2 3 45.3 2 1 3 4 -12.3 3 1 3 4 99.3 3 1 5 2 -3.2 3 1 4 3 -55.3 Into this: part_no val3_between0_50 val3_bw50_100 val3_bw-50_0 val3_bw-100_-50 2 1 0 0 1 0 3 0 1 0 1 1 This is dummy data, I got a lot more rows, but the idea is the same. I just want to count the number of values for a participant that meet certain condition. If anyone could explain it sort of step by step, I would really appreciate it. I saw lots of different little posts around, but none do exactly this and my attempts only got me half way there. Like using table, etc. Thanks!

  Been searching for an answer to this for the better part of an hour without much luck. I have two regional tables laid out with the same column names and I can put out a result list for either table based on the following query (swap Table2 for Table1): SELECT Table1.YEAR, FORMAT(COUNT(Table1.id),0) AS Total FROM Table1 WHERE Table1.variable='Y' GROUP BY Table1.YEAR Ideally I'd like to get a result that gives me a total sum of the counts by year, so instead of: | REGION 1 | | REGION 2 | | YEAR | Total | | YEAR | Total | | 2010 | 5 | | 2010 | 1 | | 2009 | 2 | | 2009 | 3 | | | | | 2008 | 4 | I'd have: | MERGED | | YEAR | Total | | 2010 | 6 | | 2009 | 5 | | 2008 | 4 | I've tried a variety of JOINs and other ideas but I think I'm caught up on the SUM and COUNT issue.   Hi every one , Wish u all a Happy New Year. I am developing a website that uses facebook. Now for managing user i thought Using membrship provider. and choose'd to develop a Custom membership provider. Now my problem is that My data base schema dosn't match the Standred membership schema and the functions provided to Override take different argument than i expect. Like membership uses username as a username to log in. But i haev to use User email ID as the user name, also its searching functions is based on using Username as way to serach but i want it to search by UserID. Same Goes for User insertion, deletion, Updation.. please help me .... Edit Its just an idea, Would it be feasible to forcefully pass my values in the arguments and then handle them in my code.

• Aptana Open Resource Key Binding

  The default keyboard shortcut for open resource in Eclipse is Ctrl+Shift+R. It is also the case in Aptana, but there also seems to be a conflicting key since when clicked it brings up a context menu with 2 options "Run" and "Open Resource". How to I avoid having this context menu pop up? I tried to go to the preferences and look for conflicting key-bindings but I could not find it. I am also not sure what "Run" command is actually bound (I tried searching based on the key combination, that did not seem to have worked).
