• Getting OTRS to work with XAMPP

  Setting up a testing environment on a RHEL5 server to test out OTRS ticketing system. I installed XAMPP for the ease of use factor for testing but can't seem to get the ticketing system to start with XAMPP at all. I am new to OTRS and learning on the fly. The documentation says to go to localhost/otrs/installer.pl. First, this file does not exist anywhere in the directory except in /opt/otrs/cgi-bin & fcgi-bin. And when I attempted to start OTRS in general I get " -- Please start the web server first! (service httpd start) <--" So do I need to edit the startup script to force it to use XAMPP? Or am I better off just installing HTTPD & MySQL myself?

• Git - post-receive hook with git pull "Failed to find a valid git directory"

  It's very weird but when setting a git repository and creating a post-receive hook with: echo "--initializing hook--" cd ~/websites/testing echo "--prepare update--" git pull echo "--update completed--" the hook runs indeed, but it never manage to run git pull properly: 6bfa32c..71c3d2a master -> master --initializing hook-- --prepare update-- fatal: Not a git repository: '.' Failed to find a valid git directory. --update completed-- so I'm asking myself now, how it's possible to make the hook update the clone with post-receive? in this case the user running the processes is the same, and its everything inside the user folder so I really don't understand...because if if I go manually into cd ~/websites/testing git pull it works without any problem... any help on that would be pretty much appreciated Thanks a lot

• Changes to .htaccess ignored

  I have a website on the server, containing .htaccess. For testing purposes I wanted to replace it with another .htaccess, but changes have been ignored. Even though I have replaced with new .htaccess or even deleted it from server root, website is still working, like I haven't done any changes. Basically new .htaccess is being ignored, it's like server cached it and doesn't care about the new one. Because of that a testing site won't work since old rewrite rules are still in place. All I know about server is that it's Linux. Is there any way to make server see the changes? I cannot restart server.

• Centos Virtual host loading default page

  I have asked a question which was related to this but not same, I have a centos VPS, which has two wordpress websites, one is mbas.co.in and another is onlinemba123.com, now for virtual hosting using just ONE IP ADDRESS, first I started mbas.co.in, which is working fine, when I added onlinemba123.com then, it is loading default Centos page instead of my website, and I am just testing my onlinemba123 website, I haven't configured DNS for it, I am testing it through editing my PC's hosts file, My website folder names are also same as in the conf file below Now my question is how can I load my website instead of Default page, is my virtual host config fine? • BAD DC transfering FSMO Roles to ADC

  I have a DC (FQDN:server.icmcpk.local) and an ADC (FQDN:file-server.icmcpk.local). Recently my DC is facing a bad sector problem so I changed the Operation Masters to file-server for all five roles. but when ever i turn off the OLD DC the file-server also stops wroking with AD and GPMC further i m also unable to join any other computer to this domain. For Test purpose i also added a new ADC (FQDN:wds-server.icmcpk.local) but no succes with the old DC off i had to turn the old DC on and then joined it. I m attaching the Dcdiags for all three servers. • Delay of mail delivery - Hosted exchange provider

  Hi, I recently signed up to a new hosted email provider. When I send mail (from OWA, OR Outlook) there is a delay of up to 3 minutes from when i send the message, to when it's received (in my gmail account for example) I've listed the headers below. Is there anything I can advise my new email host to do? My previous email host delivers within 5 seconds!! • Port forwarding no longer works

  Prior to testing an OpenVPN installation, I setup a basic VPN server using the software already built into Windows 7. Port forwarding on the Linksys router worked as normal and I was able to connect remotely. After doing an install of OpenVPN Access Server on a spare box running Ubuntu, and adding new ports to be forwarded I was unable to access the VPN from an external source as the required ports all indicated that they were closed. (During testing XRDP and VNCSERVER were also installed to facilitate access to the box) Checking back on the Windows 7 VPN resulted in no access to that vpn setup either. All ports are now reporting a being closed despite being previously open even ports that were being used for other services. Adding and removing port forwarding rules seem to have no effect. At this point, in order to troubleshoot, both the firewall and anti-virus software have been disabled on the Windows 7 machine. Could this be just a router issue? Is there any way out of this without having to reset and reconfigure the router?

  for a project there will be me and one more programmer to develop a web service. i wonder how the development environment should be like. cause we need central storage (documents, pictures, business materials etc), file version handling, lamp (testing the web service) etc. i have never set up an environment for this before and want to have suggestions from experienced people which tools to use for effective collaboration. what crossed my mind: seperate applications: - google wave (for communication forth and back, setting up guide lines, other information) - team viewer (desktop sharing) - skype (calling) vps (ubuntu server): - svn (version tracking) - ftp (central storage) - lamp (testing the web service) - ssh (managing the vps) is this an appropriate programming environment? and regarding the vps, is it best practice to use ONE vps for all tasks listed up there? all suggestions and feedbacks are welcome!

  I'm going mad over figuring out what the problem could be with one of our storage boxes. With a simple fio script I'm testing random writes using bs=1M and direct=1. The SSD is a Samsung 840pro attached to an LSI HBA (3Gbit/s ports). This is the result I'm getting under FreeBSD 9.1: WRITE: io=13169MB, aggrb=224743KB/s, minb=224743KB/s, maxb=224743KB/s, mint=60002msec, maxt=60002msec This is regardless of sync being set to 0 or 1. On linux, this is the result with sync=0: WRITE: io=14828MB, aggrb=253060KB/s, minb=253060KB/s, maxb=253060KB/s, mint=60001msec, maxt=60001msec and with sync=1: WRITE: io=6360.0MB, aggrb=108542KB/s, minb=108542KB/s, maxb=108542KB/s, mint=60001msec, maxt=60001msec My understanding is that since I'm operating on the raw block device, O_SYNC should not make any difference - there's no filesystem, any barrier, anything between the writes and the drive itself. Especially with O_DIRECT|O_SYNC set. Any ideas? • Duplicate incoming TCP traffic on Debian Squeeze

  I have to test a homebrew server that accepts a lot of incoming TCP traffic on a single port. The protocol is homebrew as well. For testing purposes, I'd like to send this traffic both : - to the production server (say, listening on port 12345) - to the test server (say, listening on port 23456) My clients apps are "dumb" : they never read data back, and the server never replies anyway, my server only accepts connections, and do statistical computations and store/forward/service both raw and computed data. Actually, client apps and hardware are so simple there is no way I can tell clients to send their stream on both servers... And using "fake" clients is not good enough. What could be the simplest solution ? I can of course write an intermediary app that just copy incoming data and send it back to the testing server, pretending to be the client. I have a single server running Squeeze and have total control over it. Thanks in advance for your replies.

• Reset Network Load Balancer Connection Pool

  I am currently working on load testing a web application on a virtual machine cluster. I am looking for a way to flush the connection pool / NLB cache so that it is like each machine connecting to the NLB is connecting for the first time and doesn't get directed back to the node that it was on last time. This a Windows 2003 Server cluster, behind a Microsoft software based Network Load Balancer. Additional Information: To do the load testing I'm using virtual machines, one for each node on the cluster. Somehow I got two virtual machines connecting to the same node and I'm looking for an easier way to reset those connections without going in to the NLB Manager and stopping and starting each node on the NLB. Update: We went ahead and changed the affinity on all of the nodes of the cluster to none. Now it's a non-issue.

• Change Groupwise 7 User Password from NetWare Server Console

  I have a Groupwise 7 server in place that we use for testing purposes. The previous administrator didn't bother to make a note of any of the account passwords on the machine. I have access to the Server Console...but I can't login via ConsoleOne or anything like that. Is there a command line utility that I can run from the Server Console to reset a Groupwise user password? I just need to have one account up and running for testing. If there's a CLI utility I can use to be able to create a new account, that would work just as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated...I'm kinda stuck at this point.

• Deploy Rails app from Hudson

  I'm using hudson as my CI and it works great, builds run their tests, code metrics, all that good stuff. But at the moment, that's it, no automated deployment, I have to manually do that after. I haven't found any sort of capistrano plugin for hudson and I can't even see where I can just run my cap deploy after a successful build in Hudson. Does anyone have any idea what I need in order to automate a deployment to a testing server on a successful build? I'd like each commit to force a build and in term deploy to testing so I can see everything right away.

Their most important task is simply to pump out data: from an application like memcached or just dumped from a large file in memory into a TCP flow (i.e., disk performance doesn't matter). This should happen over one or more 1 gigabit Ethernet ports, and the machines should run Linux (ideally), or perhaps Mac OS X or some other *nix. Other than that, there are few constraints (e.g., even something ARM-based could be fine). So here's the question: What's the cheapest server per gigabit? Price and power are both considerations.

• .NET Framework 4.0 installation is very slow

  On my Windows Vista, it takes a full 12 minutes to install the .NET Framework 4.0. a) Is this normal? b) If not, can something be done about it? The reason I'm concerned about the speed is because it slows down the testing of our product installer considerably. Testing an installer is time consuming already, but this new .NET Framework installer makes it almost undoable. Detail: I did the test on a clean Vista inside a VirtualBox virtual machine. This setup does not show any performance issues in other situations. I tried both dotNetFx40_Full_x86_x64.exe and dotNetFx40_Client_x86_x64.exe. They both take approximately the same time to install.

  I've been testing native vhd boot on several servers. It seems to be pretty transparent in terms of deployment and with my seat of the pants testing I have not noticed any difference in performance. The main reason that I want to boot vhd is due to their transportablility between different hardware and to hyper-v servers. the following roles will be installed. dfsr dhcp iis application server dc <- haven't tested this yet but see no reason why it won't work. With the above low impact (in terms of performance) roles do you thing booting from VHD is appropriate. thx

• Creating a bootable external drive in OSX

  I want to do some slightly dangerous testing, testing an install package I've written, so I've got an external drive, and I want to make it a bootable OSX disk, then I can boot up on the external, do my install, and if it screws things up, it doesn't actually affect the usability of my machine. The problem is that when I stick the disk that came with my computer (It's actually another computer in the office, but they're both minis) in and try to run the installer, it says "You cannot install OSx 10.6 on this computer". Now, the computer is ALREADY running 10.6, so that's a kind of silly error message... It does this when I boot to the DVDRom as well. Am I doing something really really dumb? or what?

• URL redirect to a virtual server on a VLAN

  I have a production site, running off 10 servers. I've been given another virtual server on the same network as these 10 servers, to use for testing purposes. This server doesn't have it's own DNS entry. Therefore I need to do a redirect to the site hosted on this virtual server for a sub-domain of the site running on the 10 other servers. So Basically I was wondering how I would configure a sub domain of my production server to point at the Virtual server for testing. I'm guessing I need to modify my site file in /etc/apache2/sites-available and add another virtual host like the following and modify the redirect match: <VirtualHost *> ServerName SUBDOMAIN.DOMAIN.com RedirectMatch 301 (.*) **IP ADDRESS** CustomLog /var/log/apache2/SUBDOMAIN.DOMAIN.com.access.log combined </VirtualHost> Do I set the redirect match to just the IP on the Virtual server, and then configure another site file in the sites-available directory, which will recption this redirect and point the browser towards the HTML root?   I’m running a Debian Squeeze AMD64 server. Target runlevel after boot is runlevel 2, which includes rsyslogd, cron, sshd and some other stuff, but not dovecot, postfix, apache2, etc. The system fails to reach runlevel 2 with several symptoms: The system hangs at trying to start rsyslogd Booting into runlevel 1 works, then login from the console works Starting rsyslogd from runlevel 1 via /etc/init.d/rsyslog hangs Starting runlevel 2 with rsyslogd disabled works But then, logging in via console fails: I get the motd, and then nothing Starting sshd from runlevel 1 succeeds But then, I cannot login via ssh. Sometimes password ssh login gives me the motd and then nothing, sometimes not even this. Trying to offer a public key seems to annoy the sshd enough to not talk to me any further. When rebooting from runlevel 1, the server hangs at trying to stop apache2 (which is not running, so this really should be trivial). Trying to stop apache2 when logged in in runleve 1 does hang as well. And that’s just the stuff which fails all the time. RAM has been tested, dmesg shows no problems. I have no clue. Update: (shortened) output from rsyslogd -c4 -d called in runlevel 1 rsyslogd 4.6.4 startup, compatibility mode 4, module path '' caller requested object 'net', not found (iRet -3003) Requested to load module 'lmnet' loading module '/user/lib/rsyslog/lmnet.so' module of type 2 being loaded conf.c requested ref for 'lmnet', refcount 1 rsylog runtime initialized, version 4.6.4, current users 1 syslogd.c requested ref for 'lmnet', refcount now 2 I can kill rsyslogd with Strg+C, then. /var/log shows none of the configured log files, though. Update2: Thanks to @DerfK I still have no clue, but at least I narrowed down the problem. I’m now testing with /etc/init.d/apache2 stop (without an apache2 running, of course) which hangs as well and looks like an even more obvious failure. After some testing I found out that a file with one single line: /usr/sbin/apache2ctl configtest /dev/null 2&1 hangs, while the same line executed in an interactive shell works. I was not able to further reduce this line while, i. e. every single part, the stream redirections and the commando itself is necessary to reproduce the hang. @DerfK also pointed me to strace which gave a shallow hint about what kind of hang we have here: wait4(-1for the init scripts futex(0xsomepointer, FUTEX_WAIT_PRIVATE, 2, NULL for rsyslogd / apache2 binaries called by the init scripts The system was installed as a Debian Lenny by my hoster in autumn 2011, I upgraded it to Squeeze immediately and kept it up to date with Squeeze, which then used to be testing. There were no big changes, though. I guess I never tried to reboot the system before. Update3: I found the problem. My /etc/nsswitch.conf specified ldap as hosts lookup backup, which is not available at that time of the boot. Relying on dns solely fixes my boot problems.

  I'm planning to install a variety of Linux distributions on VMware Player to get more experience with Linux (I've only used Fedora back in university). I'm starting with Debian 6.0.5 Squeeze, and have already downloaded the small CD i386 netinst image. In the new virtual machine wizard, it's asking me for the maximum disk size of the image. It says that the recommended size for Debian 6 is 8 GB. However, I'm trying to figure out what is the absolute minimal size that I can get away with, since I'm only testing it out with very few software installations (mainly testing web server applications).

  I have a server which I am testing for functionality (not load, not stress) with tsung. 50 users / second, 100 total users. Judging from tsung (tsung is the testing framework) graphs, there TCP connections (red line) drops to 0 while the commenced user sessions (green line) does not. Server logs show nothing to be gripping onto, so I am speculating some kind of TCP issue. Should this be the case ? Where would I look further on the server, any logs / tools to be looking at ? • Virtualizing OpenSolaris with physical disks

  I currently have a OpenSolaris installation with a ~1Tb RaidZ volume made up of 3 500Gb hard drives. This is on commodity hardware (ASUS NVIDIA based board on Intel Core 2). I'm wondering whether anyone knows if XenServer or Oracle VM can be used to install 2009.06 and get given physical access to the three SATA drives so that I can continue to use the zpool and be able to use the Xen bits for other areas. I'm thinking of installing the JeOS version of OpenSolaris, have it manage just my ZFS volume and some other stuff for work(4GB), then have a Windows(2GB) and Linux(1GB) VM (theres 8Gb RAM on that box) virtualised for testing things. Currently I am using VirtualBox installed on OpenSolaris for the Windows and Linux testing but wondered if the above was a better alternative. Essentially, 3 Disks - OpenSolaris Guest VM, it loads the zpool and offers it to the other VMs via CIFS.
