  HI Folks, I am programming a website for online-reservation-management, preferably for holiday homes. I want to implement a service, which allows the user to pass all their occupation dates to other websites. My question is, what would be the most professional way to do this? Generate a XML-stream Create a valid RSS Feed I think that a XML file has the advantages of being straight to the point, without any information that noone needs. Webmasters of other websites surely prefer the structure of a simple XML file. On the other hand, when someone without programming knowledge wants to use the RSS-Feed with a feedreader or simply with the browser, it may be user-friendlier to use a RSS-FEED. What so you think, I'm unsure...? Greetz Maenny

• Model state inferno - how can Model.A be two different things at the same time?

  I have this <%=Model.StartDate%> <%=Html.Hidden("StartDate", Model.StartDate)%> it outputs: 2010-05-11 11:00:00 +01:00 <input type="hidden" value="2010-03-17 11:00:00 +01:00" name="StartDate" id="StartDate"> What the... It's a paging mechanism so the hidden value was valid on the first page and I've been able to move forward to the next page. But since the values won't update properly it ends there. What do I need to do? Using firefox.

• What do you tell people your profession is? [closed]

  My technical title is Member of the Technical Staff, and like you most of you, I design/write code for a living. I can never decide what to answer when someone asks what I do for a living? Software Developer? Software Engineer? [Kernel] Programmer? Computer Scientist? These all seem to have various bad connotations. I guess I like Software Engineer the best, but unfortunately this term has been coopted by people who don't actually code. I made the mistake of taking a 'Software Engineering' class, and realized that I definitely don't want to be associated with people who major in this. Probably this is too subjective, so feel free to community wiki it or whatever, but I think it is a valid question and I would like to hear what others have decided on and their reasoning.

Lets say, CLASSA has a delegate defined: @protocol MyDelegate -(void) didFinishUploading; @end In CLASSB I create an instance of CLASS A -(void) doPost { CLASSA *uploader = [[CLASSA alloc] init]; uploader.delegate = self; // this means CLASSB has to implement the delegate uploader.post; } and also in CLASSB: -(void)didFinishUploding { } So when do I have to release the uploader? Because when I release it in doPost, it is not valid anymore in didFinishUploading. Thanks

• LInq to SQL - Partial Class - C#

  Hi, I have a system with 2 different projects, one is called LINQ_Extensions and the other is ORM_Linq. On ORM_Linq i have the LINQ diagram with the SQL tables "converted" in clases. One of the Class is called "Tipos_Pago" In the other project i have another class (partial class) "Tipos_Pago". I want to use the method OnValidate to validate the properties include in the class "Tipos_Pago", so i create this partial class. In the 2 projects i put the same NameSpace "ORM_Linq"(I changed the NameSpace of the project "LINQ_Extensions" to have the same of the project "ORM_Linq") After those chages, Visual Studio give me this error: Error 1 No defining declaration found for implementing declaration of partial method 'ORM_Linq.Tipos_Pago.OnValidate(System.Data.Linq.ChangeAction)' C..\Tipos_Pago.cs 13 22 Extensiones_Linq I don't have any Idea of what happend, can someone help me? • Service-Based Authentication Using Tokens

  I'm having a tough time trying to find clear and concise examples of how one would implement a service-based authentication scheme using tokens. As far as I can tell, the basic steps are as follows: Client requests username/password from user Client passes username/password to identity provider Provider checks username/password and sends back a token if the user is valid Client does something with the token? The third and fourth step are where I'm getting stuck. I assume the "token" in this case just has to be either an encrypted string that the client can decrypt or some random string that gets stored somewhere (i.e. a database) that the client can then verify against, but I'm not really sure what the client is then supposed to do with the token or why you even need a token at all -- couldn't a simple user ID also suffice?

The basic introduction to java.util.zip has a lot of Java-isms and I'd love to make my code more Scala-native. Specifically, I'd like to avoid the use of vars. • Best way to validate a WinCE OS image (.bin) file?

  We have a Windows CE 6.0 based product that allows for firmware upgrades through a web interface. I want to perform a sanity check on the new firmware image to be sure that it is valid. How should I perform the validation? I see in the BIOSLOADER code, there is support code for decoding a BIN file. I suppose I could massage that to perform the validation. Is there a better way? • how to optimize an oracle query that has to_char in where clause for date

  I have a table that contains about 49403459 records. I want to query the table on a date range. say 04/10/2010 to 04/10/2010. However, the dates are stored in the table as format 10-APR-10 10.15.06.000000 AM (time stamp). As a result. When I do: SELECT bunch,of,stuff,create_date FROM myTable WHERE TO_CHAR (create_date,'MM/DD/YYYY)' >= '04/10/2010' AND TO_CHAR (create_date, 'MM/DD/YYYY' <= '04/10/2010' I get 529 rows but in 255.59 seconds! which is because I guess I am doing to_char on EACH record. However, When I do SELECT bunch,of,stuff,create_date FROM myTable WHERE create_date >= to_date('04/10/2010','MM/DD/YYYY') AND create_date <= to_date('04/10/2010','MM/DD/YYYY') then I get 0 results in 0.14 seconds. How can I make this query fast and still get valid (529) results?? At this point I can not change indexes. Right now I think index is created on create_date column

• using C# how to convert iso8859-1 encoded text files that contain Latin-1 accented characters to utf

  I am being sent text files saved in iso88591-1 format that contain accented characters from the Latin-1 range (as well as normal ASCII a-z etc). How to convert these files to utf-8 using C# so that the single-byte accented characters in iso8859-1 become valid utf-8 characters? I have tried to use a StreamReader with ASCIIEncoding, and then converting the ascii string to UTF-8 by instantiating an ascii encoding and a utf8 encoding and then using Encoding.Convert(ascii, utf8, ascii.GetBytes( asciiString) ) — but the accented characters are being rendered as question marks. What step am I missing? Thanks

• Add database to plesk domain account via XML

  Hi All, I'm currently working on trying to integrate a site with Plesk via the XML API and I've run into a bit of an issue. I've managed to get most things working but I'm trying to add a database to a domain and I keep getting an error. When creating the database I extract a list of Domain Accounts associated with the current clients account, and use the domain guid that is returned in the XML to try and create the new database, but Plesk is returning an error stating that the id I am using is not a valid id. I've looked at the documentation and it is saying that the domain ID that I should be sending is an integer, but the only ID I can find for the domain is the guid, which is a string. Anyone done anything like this before and know where I can get the ID from?

  I am trying to make twitter work in my app and everything works fine except the code does not seem to recognize an error from twitter. If the username/password are not valid, I get an error message through this function: - (void)connection:(NSURLConnection *)connection didReceiveData:(NSData *)data { NSString* strData = [[[NSString alloc] initWithBytes:[data bytes] length:[data length] encoding:NSASCIIStringEncoding] autorelease]; NSLog(@"Received data: %@", strData ) ; return ; } It prints: Received data: Could not authenticate you. . However, the app continues to the post a tweet view I have and ignores the error. Obviously, I do not have something setup right to detect such an error from twitter so my question is how do I get xcode to recognize an error like this? This uses basic http auth btw and don't mention anything about OAuth...just trying to get this to work for now.

• How to stream a WAV file?

  I'm writing an app where I record audio and upload the audio file over the web. In order to speed up the upload I want to start uploading before I've finished recording. The file I'm creating is a WAV file. My plan was to use multiple data chunks. So instead of the normal encoding (RIFF, fmt , data) I’m using (RIFF, fmt , data, data, ..., data). The first issue is that the RIFF header wants the total length of the whole file, but that is of course not known when streaming the audio (I’m now using an arbitrary number). The other problem is that I'm not sure if it's valid since Audacity doesn't recognise the file, and Windows Media Player opens the file but plays only a very small part. I've been reading WAV specs but haven’t found an answer. Any suggestions?

• Intellisense for Javascript - not correct in Visual Studio 2008/2010

  var obj = document.getElementById("header"); Given the above code snippet, I should be able to wire event handlers. For example, I can wire onMouseDown to the mouse down event, the issue is that Visual Studio does not display this in the Intellisense. I'm trying something such as: obj.onmousedown = mousestatus; Based on a book I'm reading, the code is valid (at least it works) therefore I see no reason why Intellisense is not picking it up. I've tried this on both a standalone Javascript file, as well as an MVC project to no luck. Is there anything I'm doing wrong - or is there a way to resolve this?

• C++ STL map.find() not finding my stuff

  Hello, I have constructed a map and loaded it with data. If I iterate over all the elements I see they are all valid. However, the find method doesn't find my item. I'm sure it's something stupid I am doing. But since the last 7 days I have been asked to work in java (J2SE 1.4) and I am working in that. and gradually I am finding interest in that. I want to learn more about it and since I am finding a lot of similarity between C# and Java(what ever I have gleaned + worked so far in those 7 days), I am planning to steer my career in that. But having spent for more than 2 years in C# and then moving to java, will it be a problem in future (say after 3/4 months) if I need to change my job.. I mean my most of the exp. lies in C# and just started JAVA. so how the technical panel will accept me if I need to change the platform? Thanks

  I'm trying to implement a simple api request to the SEOmoz linkscape api. It works if I only use the php file but I want to do an ajax request using jquery to make it faster and more user friendly. From OpenSSL docs: SSL_CTX_set_cert_verify_callback() sets the verification callback function for ctx. SSL objects that are created from ctx inherit the setting valid at the time when SSL_new(3) is called. and: SSL_CTX_set_verify() sets the verification flags for ctx to be mode and specifies the verify_callback function to be used. If no callback function shall be specified, the NULL pointer can be used for verify_callback. So I'm trying to understand which callback to send for each one (from client side). Thanks experts.

However, I don't see any such restriction on deleted-functions. Is that right? • Overcoming Inertia - How to Just Get Going on Stuff

  I wondered whether you guys could help me - I have a big problem with overcoming inertia, i.e. how to just get started on a project/work when you simply feel the inertia of not being in the right 'zone' to do work such that it really becomes pretty damn tough to actually get on with what you want to do. Forgive me quoting my blog post where I try to express the problem as best I can:- The problem is that it feels so damned difficult to exert the force required to shift from one mode to another, so much so that you find it almost inconceivable to do so at the time. You need to force yourself somehow, or at least find some sort of hack to trick yourself into it. Do you guys have any ideas/hacks as to how to overcome this? Thanks in advance, and hopefully the community feel this question is valid for stack overflow (I have set it community wiki due to its fairly subjective nature.)

Have an unmanaged C++ Class with one public instance variable: char* character_encoding; and whose only constructor is defined as: TF_StringList(const char* encoding = "cp_1252"); when I use this class in either managed or unmanaged C++, the first thing I do is declare a pointer to an object of this class: const TF_StringList * categories; Then later I instantiate it: categories = new TF_StringList(); this gives me a pointer to an object of type TF_StringList whose variable character_encoding is set to "cp_1252"; So, is all that logic valid?   I would like to delete all the rows found by that query: SELECT cart_abandon.* FROM cart_abandon, cart_product, txn_product, users WHERE cart_abandon.cartid = cart_product.cartid AND cart_product.productid = txn_product.productid AND txn_product.username = users.username AND users.id = cart_abandon.userid AND txn_product.txndate >= cart_abandon.abandondate The thing to keep in mind is that the query here uses 4 different tables, however I only want to delete rows from 1 table (cart_abandon). Is there an easy way to do that? Maybe this: ?
