  • Putting a variable inside a string (python)

    Hi I am quite new to python and this is probably quite a basic question but the help would be much appreciated. I would like to put an int within a string. This is what I am doing at the moment.. end = smooth(data,window_len=40) plot.plot(time[0:len(end)],end) plot.savefig('hanning(40).pdf') #problem line I have to run the program for several different numbers instead of the two 40's. So I'd like to do a loop but inserting the variable like this doesn't work: plot.savefig('hanning',num,'.pdf') Thanks!

    Hi guy, I would like to update my php 5 in my server. At this moment, I use php 5.2.0 so I want to update it to php 5.2.4 (not php 5.3).     I have a web server with apache 2.0 installed. It comes with Zend Server install pack. When I’m trying to debug my php files apache serves a blank page with 503 service unavailable. Of course slow server-side code is tying up Apache requests for far too long, but I need it to wait, until my debugging comes to end. How can I solve this problem.

    Hi! I've updated from 9.10 to 10.04 but unfortunately the PHP provided with 10.04 is not yet supported by zend optimizer. As far as I understand I need to somehow replace the PHP 5.3 package provided under 10.04 with an older PHP 5.2 package provided under 9.10. However I am not sure whether this is the right way to downgrade PHP and if yes, I don't know how to replace the 10.04 package with 9.10 package. Could you please help me with that?

    My Zend Framework application has a public directory which contains an htaccess file. If the file isn't found in the public directory, it routes the request through the application. I have an MP3 file within my public directory, but the htaccess file is routing the request through the application! Do you see anything wrong with my htaccess file?   • How to downgrade a certain package (php) back to karmic

    Hi! I've updated from 9.10 to 10.04 but unfortunately the PHP provided with 10.04 is not yet supported by zend optimizer. As far as I understand I need to somehow replace the PHP 5.3 package provided under 10.04 with an older PHP 5.2 package provided under 9.10. However I am not sure whether this is the right way to downgrade PHP and if yes, I don't know how to replace the 10.04 package with 9.10 package. Could you please help me with that?

  • Add SiteAdvisor to Google Chrome

    With the continued increase in malware knowing when a website is trouble can save you from a painful experience. If you are looking to add a bit more security to your Chromium-based Browser then join us as we look at the SiteAdvisor for Chrome extension. SiteAdvisor for Chrome in Action Once you have installed the extension you should go into the options first. You can choose which style of warning that you would like to receive when encountering a “less then reputable” website. The default setting is for the “Toolbar Icon Warning” but can be easily changed to a full “Webpage Redirect”. Note: The “Toolbar Button/Icon” does not display a drop-down window when clicked on. Here is an example if you go with the default and receive the “Toolbar Icon Warning”. Once again the same website except with the full “Webpage Redirect” in effect…of the two options this is the recommended setting. Notice that details are provided for “why” the website is listed as “less than reputable”. An example of a website that is all good…nothing but checkmarks and green. Terrific! There may be those of you who would be more comfortable with a “double layer” of protection while browsing. As you can see here SiteAdvisor and WOT work nicely together.   • Make Your Coworker’s Day in Ubuntu

    It can be difficult to express your appreciation for your coworkers in person – what if they take it the wrong way, or think you’re fishing for a compliment of your own? If you use Ubuntu in your office, here’s a quick way to show your appreciation while avoiding the social pitfalls of face-to-face communication. Make sure their computer is locked An unlocked computer is a vulnerable computer. Vulnerable to malware sure, but much more vulnerable to the local office prankster, who thinks it’s hilarious to make a screenshot of your desktop, change your background to that screenshot, then hide all of your desktop icons. These incidents have taught us that you should lock your computer when taking a break. Hopefully your coworker has learned the same lesson, and pressed Ctrl+Alt+L before stepping out for a coffee. Leave a carefully worded message Now is your opportunity to leave your message of appreciation on your coworker’s computer. Click on the Leave Message button and type away! Click on Save. Wait, possibly in the shadows If you sit near your coworker, then wait for them to return. If you sit farther away, then try to listen for their footsteps. Eventually they will return to their computer and enter their password to unlock it. Observe smile Once they return to their desktop, they will be greeted with the message you left. Look to see if they appreciated the message, and if so, feel free to take credit. If they look annoyed, or press the Cancel button, continue on with your day like nothing happened. You may also try to slip into a conversation that you saw Jerry tinkering with their computer earlier. Conclusion Leaving your coworkers a nice message is easy and can brighten up their dull afternoon.   • Convert DVDs and ISO Files to MKV with MakeMKV

    Looking for a quick and easy way to convert your DVDs or ISOs to MKV files? Today we take a look at the MakeMKV Beta which gets the job done very well. Installing and Using MakeMKV Download and install MakeMKV (See download link below) If converting a DVD, place it into your optical drive. When you open MakeMKV you will be greeted by it’s minimalistic interface. Click on the DVD to hard drive button to open the DVD, or the folder icon on the top menu to browse for an ISO file.   MakeMKV will open the disc or file. Once the disc or file is opened, you’ll see the titles listed in the window on the left. Double-click on the titles to expand the tree structure.   Remove any title or tracks you don’t want to convert by unselecting the check box to the left. On the right side of the window, click the folder icon to select browse for your file output directory. When ready, click the MakeMkv button to begin the conversion process.   Conversion will proceed.   When the conversion is finished. Click OK. That’s all there is to it! Your MKV file is ready to play. Conclusion MakeMKV is currently still in beta and during the beta phase it will rip both DVD and Blu-ray for free. However, the DVD ripping functionality will always remain free. After 30 days if you want to continue ripping Blu-ray discs, you’ll need to purchase a license. DVD rips are very quick…typically around 15-20 minutes depending on the length of the movie. MakeMKV is available for Windows, Mac, Linux and will rip and convert DVDs to MKV files. Not all media players natively support MKV playback, so if you’re having trouble playing MKV files, try downloading VLC Media player, or the latest version of the DivX codec.
