    I'm working through a book exercise to generate some random serial number, and here's my function: NSString *randomSerialNumber = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%c%c%c%c%c", '0' + random() % 10, 'A' + random() % 26, '0' + random() % 10, 'A' + random() % 26, '0' + random() % 10]; This works and has an output like: 2J6X7. But before, the 0s and As I had wrapped in double quotes, and an example output was 11764iÒ˜. What did I do wrong my first time around, and why did using single quotes fix it?

  • How to implement dual communication between server and client via http

    I have a AJAX client which must receive messages from server. Some messages from server not like request-response type. For example, imaging game in which players can enter. Server must send to client info about player entering. But how can server send message to client via http without request from client? Only decision that i can invent: client send request to server (getNewPlayerEnter request) with big timeout, server checks state of player set, if in set new players are, then server send info to client, if not server 'sleeps' on some time, and after 'sleeping' server checks players set again. I think my desicion a little stupid(maybe not little). How implement it right? p.s. sorry for my english

Removal includes ALL instances of the duplicated character (so if you find 3 n's, all three have to go), and original character order needs to be preserved. Example Input 1: nbHHkRvrXbvkn Example Output 1: RrX Example Input 2: nbHHkRbvnrXbvkn Example Output 2: RrX (the second example removes letters that occur three times; some solutions have failed to account for this) (This is based on my other question where I needed the fastest way to do this in C#, but I think it makes good Code Golf across languages.)

    I always have trouble with complicated SQL queries. This is what I have $query = ' SELECT id, name, info, date_time FROM acms_events WHERE date_time = DATE_SUB(NOW(), INTERVAL 1 HOUR) AND active = 1 ORDER BY date_time ASC LIMIT 6 '; I want to get up to 6 rows that are upcoming within the hour. Is my query wrong? It does not seem to get events that are upcoming within the next hour when I test it. What is the correct syntax for this? Thanks

And post because I need to access the mysql database in relation to that input.   • HTML5 Canvas compositing question (source-in)

    I am trying to recreate a page flipping type animation in HTML5 using canvas. The animation is based on ideas from here: hxxp://oreilly.com/javascript/archive/flashhacks.html but thats not really important. The problem I am having is that using the 'source-in' composite operation is not giving me the results I expect and would like clarification as to why. Here is the example: (i think it can only be viewed in chrome, not working in FF 3.6) http://acpound.fylez.com/test/example.html The black rectangle is supposed to act as a 'mask' for the page being turned over. All I want to see is the turning page in the areas where it overlaps the mask. The problem is the entire black rectangle is drawn, not just the area where they overlap. The source is all on the page. I know HTML5 isn't really being used yet, I'm just experimenting for my personal site and curiosity. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

  • Condor job using DAG with some jobs needing to run the same host

    I have a computation task which is split in several individual program executions, with dependencies. I'm using Condor 7 as task scheduler (with the Vanilla Universe, due do constraints on the programs beyond my reach, so no checkpointing is involved), so DAG looks like a natural solution. However some of the programs need to run on the same host. I could not find a reference on how to do this in the Condor manuals. Example DAG file: JOB A A.condor JOB B B.condor JOB C C.condor JOB D D.condor PARENT A CHILD B C PARENT B C CHILD D I need to express that B and D need to be run on the same computer node, without breaking the parallel execution of B and C.     I'm trying to pass a variable from one function to another, but the var elmId is being returned as an object and giving an error. When we click on any of the generated divs we should be able to change the size of the div by choosing a width / height value from the drop down menus. I'm trying to pass the clicked div id which is elmId to function displayVals but it is not working. If we replace "#"+elmId in the function displayVals with the actual id of the first div created with is "#divid1" then it works.   • Jquery Resizable Image size issue

    Image size is not automatically detected when using jquery resizable. Both Firefox and IE displays the image much smaller, and chrome show nothing at all. I can't seem to find a direct answer to this issue.   • Why specifcially in my example does this "too much recursion" error occur in my JavaScript?

    I have been looking into this for a little while now. I have a gallery on my page, that uses Ariel Flesler's scrollTo plugin. It works fine on the home page, but not on the Contact page. In Firefox, I get the error... Too much recursion I have sorted through as much code as possible and set breakpoints in a few places. I am pretty sure it is something to do with the plugin (specifically, when it is called in the click handler). For your convenience, I am using the unpacked versions of jQuery and scrollTo plugin. What on earth am I doing wrong? Thanks for your time.
