• Why does dojo parsing time depend on css and images availability?

  I have been profiling javascript on my page that uses dojo widgets. I don't use explicit parsing - the parser runs on page load. What I noticed is that if I clear browser cache before refreshing the page, dojo parsing takes much more time than if all the files are already cached. Note that we build all the required dojo modules into a layer (a single file), so we don't lazy-load any js files. I wonder if dojo parsing process depends on images and css resources, as far as I know it only instantiates widgets and injects dom nodes. Do you have any ideas why dojo parser runs longer (2-3 times longer in my case) when the cache is cleared?

  I have an application where I give my user Widgets. Suppose my user wants to customize the layout of the widgets. For example, I have a clock that is green. In Xaml, to add an animation around the clock would be easy. How could i make it such that at runtime, my application reads a layout.xaml file. Loads it and parses all the gradients and xaml. But still be able to use my widget in there.   Hi Guys, I need to build a scalable single sign-on mechanism for multiple sites. Scenario: Central web application to register/manage account (Server in Europe) Several web applications that need to authenticate against my user database (Servers in US/Europe/Pacific region) I am using MySQL as database backend. The options I came up with are either replicating the user database across all servers (data security?) or allowing the servers to directly connect to my MySQL instance by explicitly allowing connections from their IPs in my.cnf (high load? single point of failure?). What would be the best way to provide a scalable and low-latency single sign-on for all web applications? In terms of data security would it be a good idea to replicate the user database across all web applications? Note: All web applications provide an API which users can use to embed widgets into their own websites. These widgets work through a token auth mechanism which will again need to authenticate against my user database.

  Hello, I am a newbi programmer and am having trouble with a measurement conversion program I am working on. What I would like to do is have several EditText boxes. When one is filled in and a calculate button is hit then the rest will be populated with a converted number. The part I am getting stuck on is outputting the answers to EditText widgets. ex: There are three EditText Widgets. a user inputs the number 6 into the first one (labeled inches) and presses calculate. I would like the next box to display .5 (labeled feet) and the last to display .1666 (this would be yards) .setText() apparently does not work to modify the text in an EditText any help would be greatly appreciated.

• How can I position QDockWidgets as the screen shot shows using code?

  I want a Qt window to come up with the following arrangement of dock widgets on the right. Qt allows you to provide an argument to the addDockWidget method of QMainWindow to specify the position (top, bottom, left or right) but apparently not how two QDockWidgets placed on the same side will be arranged. I've used Wordpress before to rapidly develop blogs, but that's about it. If anything goes beyond the scope of Wordpress I'll use a framework in something (Rails/Cake). This build is going to require custom plug-ins and widgets, so what I'm asking is how is the best way to go about learning how Wordpress and best practices for plug-ins and widgets?

• Qt: Animating the 'roll down' of a QWidget

  I have a QWidget that contains various other widgets. I want to animate it appearing on the screen by gradually revealing it from the top down, increasing it's height from 0 to whatever it's natural height would be. The way I have it currently is: mAnimation = new QPropertyAnimation(this, "maximumHeight"); mAnimation->setStartValue(0); mAnimation->setEndValue(400); mAnimation->start(); This has two issues: - It crashes when the height reaches a certain height, with a "qDrawShadeRect: Invalid parameters" error. - If I change the 0 to 100, it works fine, but the widgets contained within the QWidget I'm animating have their layout changed as the widget animates, starting very squashed together and gradually spreading apart as they get more space. This looks ugly! Does anyone have any suggestions?

• Screen orientation change forces data re-entry

  I'm developing a simple app, only a handful of activities and nothing to complicated. The issue I'm having is that in a few of my activities I have EditText widgets, and when the screen is rotated, these widgets loose their values. They still visually, that is, on the handset screen, report their values from before the rotation, but to the code report their default values. An example, I have an activity with an EditText, I enter a number, 15, the calculator starts calculating, displays a result. If at this point I rotate to a different orientation, as expected the activity dies, reloads, shows the new orientation, my value of 15 is still in the EditText, however the calculator (the code) calculates as if it was 0, which is the initial value. I have not tried changing the initial value to see if it is really pulling from the default value, or just setting itself to 0 when I cast it as an int. If I didn't explain this well enough, let me know, I can add source code if I need to. Thanks.

For instance, view1 that calls action A might expect back html with a list of widgets wrapped in a UL tag, while view2 expects the same list of widgets wrapped in a table. How does one Restfully express that not only do I want back an html formatted response, but I want it wrapped in a table, or in a UL, OL, options, or some other common list-oriented html tag?

• Is there a jquery clone of ext.js' toolbar?

  I'm looking for a jquery equivalent of ext.js' toolbar (http://dev.sencha.com/deploy/dev/examples/menu/menus.html). To be more precisely, my requirements are the following: the toolbar should consist of iconic and textual buttons and dropdown widgets buttons should either trigger actions directly or open submenus buttons and submenus should have the ability to remember the last selected state buttonsets should group multiple buttons and only allow one of them to be active In short words, I'm looking for a real toolbar in jquery and not for some modified site menu. I experimented with the button/buttonset/menu widget in jquery ui 1.9m2, but found its IE performance rather poor. It also felt awkward to combine these isolated widgets into a logically connected toolbar. Does anyone know of a better jquery toolbar plugin?

• Passing a panel widget to a function

  I have written a quite complex script which calls a server handler to refresh elements in a grid at the press of a button. For code re-use and consistent behaviour, I am wanting to call that server handler directly during the initial painting of the grid. When the server handler gets called by clicking on the button, all expected widgets are available and can be queried with e.parameter.widget etc. When I call the function directly and pass it the panel variable, the value of e is just 'AbsolutePanel'. Is there some way I can emulate the addCallbackElement way of passing the entire panel and all widgets it contains to the function? Or a way of automatically firing a server handler on script start? Please forgive any syntax errors below, I have pruned 500 lines of code down to the pertinent bits! • I have finally traded my Blackberry in for a Droid!

  Over the years I have used a number of different types of phones. Windows Mobile, Blackberry, Nokia, and now Android. Until the Blackberry, which was my last phone (and I still have one issued from my office) I had never found a phone that “just worked” especially with email and messaging. The Blackberry did, and does, excel at those functions. My last personal phone was a Storm 1 which was Blackberry’s first touch screen phone. The Storm 2 was an improved version that fixed some screen press detection issues from the first model and it added Wifi. Over the last few years I have watched others acquire and fall in love with their ‘Droid’s including a number of iPhone users which surprised me. Our office has until recently only supported Blackberry phones, adding iPhones within the last year or so. When I spoke with our internal telecom folks they confirmed they were evaluating Android phones, but felt they still were not secure enough out of the box for corporate use and SOX compliance. That being said, as a personal phone, the Droid Rocks! I am impressed with its speed, the number of apps available, and the overall design. It is not as “flashy” as an iPhone but it does everything that I care about and more. The model I bought is the Motorola Droid 2 Global from Verizon. It is currently running Android 2.2 for it’s OS, 2.3 is just around the corner. It has 8 gigs of internal flash memory and can handle up to a 32 gig SDCard. (I currently have 2 8 gig cards, one for backups, and have ordered a 16 gig card!) Being a geek at heart, I “rooted” the phone which means gained superuser access to the OS on the phone. And opens a number of doors for further modifications down the road. Also being a geek meant I have already setup a development environment and built and deployed the obligatory “Hello Droid” application.   I had been trying to use SSL for the following site http://bit.ly/e8Lj32 , although the SSL certificate is signed properly by networksolutions , each time the pages are loaded it still displays an SSl warning in browser warning "Some parts of the site are not using SSL" , in I.E, its even worst if you hit "no I dont want view unsecured part of the page" site does not display properly (as it blocks some of the widgets) screenshots upped at http://i.imgur.com/fm5GO.png
