• How to handle HTTPStatus Response 201 with AS3 / Flash / SWFUpload

  Hey all. I'm using SWFUpload on a Rails site to allow for MP3 Uploads direct to Sound Cloud. To avoid having to first upload a large file to my server and push to Sound Cloud, I'm hitting their API directly via SWFUpload, passing necessary OAuth token data. Everything works - EXCEPT - Flash can't handle the HTTP response code that Sound Cloud's API returns (201). This ALWAYS triggers an unhandled IO Error with Flash. Even though SWFUpload allows me to override that in the JS, it breaks any response data (the URI to the uploaded file). Does anyone know how I could somehow intercept the 201 code so that I can make it a 200 code for flash? I'm at a loss at how I can avoid this IO Error. I've tried try/catch statements around everything and have even recompiled SWFUpload to try new things to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• Dealing with unwanted port numbers on localhost when debugging in Visual Studio

  So when I'm trying to debug a project in Visual Studio, I'll often have 1 or more services that I need to call. These services are separate projects and I'll launch them in separate instances of VS. ASP dev server kindly launches them with temporary port numbers attached. This would be fine except for my programs are looking for an IP without a port attached. (Typically it's as simple as "localhost"!) I've coped by using web config settings and changing the xml to use the port number while debugging. This still doesn't always work and occasionally I'll still have to fudge it and insert port numbers as strings in code! UGH! Then I have to remember to undo all the port herding code before deployment... I want to stop doing this: string _strBaseURL = String.Format("http://{0}:2277", ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["myservice_ip"].ToString()); What is the best practice here? Am I doomed to port herding while debugging VS apps?

• Sharepoint Foundation 2010 development environment installation problems

  I'm having problems installing development machine for Sharepoint (Foundation) 2010. This is what I did so far on the same machine: Installed a clean Windows 7 x64 with 4GB of RAM without being part of any domain. Just a simple standalone machine. Enabled IIS related features as described here except IIS6 related ones (two of them) Installed SQL Server 2008 R2 Development Edition (DB Engine and Writer being enabled but not SQL Agent) Installed Visual Studio 2010 Premium Started installing Sharepoint Foundation 2010 with first extracting files, changing config to enable Windows 7 installation and then installed it as Server Farm (then Complete) to avoid installing SQL Express. Created a separate SPF_CONFIG local user with Logon on as a service right. Opened SPF Management Shell and run New-SPConfigurationDatabase so I am able to use a non-domain username (SPF_CONFIG that I created in the previous step) But all I get is this: The outcome after this error is: Database Sharepoint2010Config is created User SPF_CONFIG is added to SQL Server and attached to this newly created database as dbowner Checking SQL server security logins this user has following rights: dbcreator securityadmin public

• HTML5 Cache manifest file itself is not cached, and called at each resource load

  We have a web app that runs on the iPhone.The manifest file is ok, and the resources(html, css, js) are cached correctly.The page sits in the home screen. The trouble is, when the page loads a resource from the cache, there is as well a GET call to the server to read the Cache Manifest file.The server is configured to send the correct header (max-age=31536000; public, etc...) and caches well all other files except the cache manifest itself. Is this a normal behavior? It looks there is a slight lag, because of that call, for each resource load.Any idea, if these multiple calls can get a status 304 or even better avoided?

  I need to hide phone numbers (and maybe other contact details) in user generated content to protect my users from anonymous web. Input is very random, therefore I'd be looking to replace anything that looks like a phone number (e.g.: string of 3 or more numbers) with just dots, and also perhaps remove some exotic notations of e-mail addresses. What is the best way to do this? Nice and slick, reusable. Give away your secret regexes. Write in any language. • Generic Text Only printer driver mangles control codes

  If an escape character (or most other characters < 0x20) is sent to the generic / text only printer it gets printed as a period. Using the code in the WinDDK is it possible to 'correct' this behaviour so that it passes it through unmodified? The general scenario for this is that some application ('user app') outputs a document to a windows printer. My application requires this data in plain text form and so what I do is run a generic / text only printer that talks to a virtual com port. This generally works fine except where the 'user app' outputs binary data to the print queue without using the correct mechanism (which seems to work fine on some printer drivers, such as the Epson POS ones, but not the generic / text only one). I've tried changing the print processor selection without success and also tried looking at the gtt files to see if I could readily map in these characters as though they were printable, but the minidriver tool won't let me do that. Any suggestions?

  I have the following class structure (abbreviated for sake of time, names changed) in my application. When I was writing the code I felt that the similarities between Action1 and Action2 should warrant some sort of generalization. I've provided the UML Class diagram with the relevant parts (except for the interfaces, which I describe in code below). I was wondering if anyone had an idea on how to make this "better" architecture / class design. Also, actions that are very similar could be implemented in a near-future iteration. • Programming tests: are they relevant?

  Do online programming tests have any value (except for providing an evidence to potential employers) in terms of evaluating your knowledge, or a they too broad or too narrow in general? For examples, brainbench.com and similar websites. From my experience I have never found myself scoring particularly high, although I have many years of commercial experience and is doing great at work. These tests mostly refer to things I have never worked with (WebForms or ADO .Net, who works with ADO .Net directly anyway?), yet these tests claim to be C# tests. If you were hiring a programmer, would you consider online tests as an evidence of real skill?

• Dragged external events from div overflow do not appear using FullCalender and FCDraggable

  I am using the FCDraggable version of FullCalendar and everything is working well. However, I would like my external events to be contained in a div with an overflow (ex. JQuery UI Accordian) and dragged onto the calendar. When overflow is on, the external event gets hidden behind the calendar and does not appear until dropped onto the calendar. Without overflow, the external events show fine during the dragging process onto the calendar. Has anyone else encountered this scenario? I know FCDraggable isn't part of the official release branch of FullCalendar but it works so well except for this one issue.

  I'v followed a tutorial to get the GLU tesselator working. It woulds except the interpolation for colors of new points causes a crash (error reading from memory...) • TeX on iPad compatible with Apple's policy?

  Hi, As a nerd, I think it would be nice to have a TeX editor on the iPad. But TeX is a Turing-complete language, and it is arguably a general-purpose compiler/interpreter. Does that make it unacceptable to the App Store? Furthermore, if somebody ports TeX compiler to javascript and runs inside WebKit, does it make acceptable to the App Store? FYI, here's the section of the developer's agreement: 3.3.2 An Application may not itself install or launch other executable code by any means, including without limitation through the use of a plug-in architecture, calling other frameworks, other APIs or otherwise. No interpreted code may be downloaded and used in an Application except for code that is interpreted and run by Apple's Published APIs and builtin interpreter(s).

I want <li> to be arranged in table-like fashion like this: What I have for now is following css: li { display: block; width: 200px; float: left; margin: 10px; } All is fine except that columns don't get equal height. And in example above block #4 “snatch” at #1 and the result isn't what I'm trying to achieve: Is there any pure-CSS cross-browser way that will allow grid layout I want and will not enforce markup change?

• jquery stop image slider when accordian menu is closed

At the moment the page loads a blank picture area and when an accordion menu item is closed it just restarts that menu items picture slider. (So on page load and when all accordions are closed I need it default to an image on the right.) Some of the items only have 1 picture i.e. posture 3 you will notice when you click on it, it shows the image and then goes blank, can it just fade the image in and leave it there if there is only 1 image? • My Android 2.1 Nexus One, rooted and unlocked and unplugged and unchained! Unfreakinbelievable!

  So anyway. i fastbooted and superrooted, and all's fine in the merry old land of Oz. So yeah, now I can see /data/data.. in DDMS, both the plugin and the tool, which is great. but when I attach my phone, I still can't see the main drive. All I can see is the SD card. Using OSX, so when I use Disk Utility, I can see the machine then see the SD Card. is the problem that none of the tools I am using, except DDMS and ADB shell, know how to read that main Android drive? It's the same format as the qemu img, right? Someone HAS to come up with a tool that can do this, let me hack my phone and access the main drive via my USB connector, and mount that drive on my native file system. It just can NOT be that hard. Err, can it? All smiles! Michael

• jQuery - Animation Causes Div Overlap IE7

  I have a hidden div (#contactArea) above another div. When I click the link, the #contactArea opens up. When I click it again, it closes back up. It all works nicely, except in IE7. The two divs are transparent, so they overlap. I have no idea why this happens, or why doesn't it happen on other browsers. It just about feels like IE7 is right on this one. • Measuring code coverage for selenium tests that reside in separate project

  I have two separate java maven projects: one is my web app itself and other one is tellurium+selenium automation tests for my web(I moved these tests to separate projects as their code doesnt really belong to the web app project code and doesnt use java classes of my web app, also I want to reuse some parts of those tests for testing my other web apps). Therefore, project where my tests reside doesnt know anything about my web app, except tellurium/selenium conf files(host name, credentials, browser). So the question: is there any way to measure code coverage of my webb app backend that is invoked by my tellurium/sellenium tests that reside in separate project? Thanks in advance. Also i thought that maybe it's because the default fonts somehow do not support utf-8 so according to pisa documentation i tried to set fontface in template body in style section. that still gave no results. Does any one have some ideas how to solve this issue?

• C# MySQL Lost Connection

  Hi. I have C# application and I'm using MySQL database. Everything seems to be fine except one thing. Our computer network is little bit unstable. When I'm trying to execute query and the computer simultaneously loses connection to the mysql server (I'm simulating this situation by unplugging the network cable from computer which is mysql server), the program is trying to do something for long time (tens seconds). I would like to specify something like timeout which ends the query by exception or something similar. I tried to add timeout parameters to connection string but with no effect (I've used ConnectionTimeout and DefaultCommandTimeout). Is there any other way to identify lost connection after few seconds? Thank you Adam P.S. Sorry for my english, I'm not native speaker.

• Signature invalid only for ad hoc

  I'm not sure what changed on my ad hocs but I get this error when trying to install: Application failed codesign verification. The signature was invalid, or it was not signed with an Apple submission certificate. (-19011) Device debug builds fine. The cert that is associated with my ad hoc provisioning profile doesn't expire until 2011. I've searched Google but haven't found any applicable solution, except some mention about deleting and recreating the certs. Before I go down that rode, has any one experienced and resolved this issue? I'm using Xcode 3.2.3 and building against sdk 3.0.

  I recently came across fancy box located here, I've followed every step in the instructions perfectly, but it doesn't work, anyone know what might be the problem? • .aspx character coding

  I am having an problem. First time working with a windows server, do you know if there is any problem in character coding? My document is set to content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" but it's giving me funny words... you can check it here. This site is a pure HTML with few includes but anything else is just HTML. I can convert them to HTML entities but that is basically wasting my time. I never had this problem with any website I did except for this. Some others said "The problems seems to be that you have converted the text into utf-8 twice.". But how would Coverted it twice since dreamweaver should convert it for me but in this case it doesn't.

• MSBuild - setting a reference path

  I have several assemblies my project is dependant upon. These are stored in the Project's directory under the "Dependencies" folder. So something like this. Solution - Project - Dependancies FunkyAssembly.dll - bin - Debug - Release SomeCode.cs I've referenced FunkyAssembly.dll using Browse and in project.csproj I see <Reference Include="FunkyAssembly"> <HintPath>Dependancies\FunkyAssembly.dll</HintPath> </Reference> So far so good - except after a release build FunkyAssembly.dll is copied to the Release directory (not a problem in itself) but then future debug builds will reference this copy rather than the copy in Dependencies. You can see this if you at Path in the reference properties. This means that if Dependencies\FunkyAssembly.dll is updated the build won't pick it up as its referencing the old copy in bin/Release. Any way to FORCE the damn thing to pick up Dependencies\FunkyAssembly.dll rather than HINT?

• DateJS parsing mystery

  I'm using DateJS to parse user-inputted dates, and getting some strange results. Date.parse("15 Jan 2010") returns Fri Jan 15 00:00:00 EST 2010 (right) Date.parse("15-Apr-2010") returns Thu Apr 15 00:00:00 EDT 2010 (right) Date.parse("15 Apr 2010") returns Thu Apr 1 00:00:00 EDT 2010 (wrong) As far as I can tell, the d MMM yyyy input format works fine for every month except April and August; in those two cases, it returns the first of the month no matter what day is entered. Is this a bug, or is there a logical explanation I'm missing?

• Convert File System Website to IIS Website

  We recently migrated from VS 2008 to VS 2010. The migration went fine, except for our web project. Before, in VS 2008, the site showed up as http://localhost/Website. Now, it appears as C:...\Website. It appears that when we did the migration, VS started to treat it as a file system website. I've tried removing the existing site and re-adding it as an existing website, but it still displays it as C:...\Website. Is there any way to convert it back to show it as a http://localhost/website, and run through IIS, as opposed to the default ASP.NET Development Server?
