• Edit and render RichText

  We have an application (a custom network management tool for building automation) that supports printing labels that you can cut out and insert into the devices' front displays. In earlier versions of the tool (not developed in my company), the application just pushed the strings into an Excel file that the field technician could then manipulate (like formatting text). We didn't do this in the new version because it was hard (impossible) to keep the Excel file in sync, and to avoid a binding to an external application (let alone different versions of Excel). We're using PDFSharp for rendering the labels. It has a System.Drawing-like interface, but can output to a System.Drawing.Graphics (screen / printer) as well as to a PDF file, which is a requirement. Later, basic formatting was introduced like Font Family, Style, Size, Color which would apply to one label (i.e. to exactly one string). Now the customer wants to be able to apply these formats to single characters in a string. I think the easiest way would be to support a subset of RichText. It's not as easy as I thought though. Currently the editor just displays a TextBox for the label you want to edit, with the font set to the label's font. I thought I'd just replace it with RichTextBox, and update the formatting buttons to use the RichTextBox formatting properties. Fairly easy. However, I need to draw the text. I know you can get the RichTextBox to draw to a HDC or System.Drawing.Graphics - but as already said, I need it to use PDFSharp. Rendering to bitmaps is not an option, since the PDF must not be huge, and it's a lot of labels. Unfortunately I couldn't get the RichTextBox to tell me the layout of the text - I'm fine with doing the actual rendering by hand, as long as I know where to draw what. This is the first question: How can I get the properly layouted metrics of the rich text out of a RichTextBox? Or is there any way to convert the rich text to a vector graphics format that can be easily drawn manually? I know about NRTFTree which can be used to parse and manipulate RichText. The documentation is bad (actually I don't know, it's Spanish), but I think I can get it to work. As far as I understood, it won't provide layouting as well. Because of this, I think I'll have to write a custom edit control (remember, it's basically just one or two line labels with basic RTF formatting, not a full-fledged edit control - more like editing a textbox in PowerPoint) and write custom text layout logic that used PDFSharp rather than System.Drawing for drawing. Is there any existing, even if partial, solution available, either for the editing or for doing the layout manually (or both)? Or is there an entirely different approach I'm just not seeing? Bonus points if exporting the label texts as RTF into a CSV file, and then importing in Excel retains the formatting. For the editing part, I need it to work in Windows Forms. Other than that it's not Windows-Forms-related, I think.

• How Do I 'git fetch' and 'git merge' from a Remote Tracking Branch (like 'git pull')

  I have set up some remote tracking branches in git, but I never seem to be able to merge them into the local branch once I have updated them with 'git fetch'. For example, suppose I have remote branch called 'an-other-branch'. I set that up locally as a tracking branch using git branch --track an-other-branch origin/an-other-branch So far, so good. But if that branch gets updated (usually by me moving machine and commiting from that machine), and I want to update it on the original machine, I'm running into trouble with fetch/merge: git fetch origin an-other-branch git merge origin/an-other-branch Whenever I do this, I get an 'Already up-to-date' message and nothing merges. However, a git pull origin an-other-branch always updates it like you would expect. Also, running git diff git diff origin/an-other-branch shows that there are differences, so I think I have my syntax wrong. What am I doing wrong?

• Android ProgressDialog Progress Bar doing things in the right order

  I just about got this, but I have a small problem in the order of things going off. Specifically, in my thread() I am setting up an array that is used by a Spinner. Problem is the Spinner is all set and done basically before my thread() is finished, so it sets itself up with a null array. How do I associate the spinners ArrayAdapter with an array that is being loaded by another thread? I've cut the code down to what I think is necessary to understand the problem, but just let me know if more is needed. The problem occurs whether or not refreshData() is called. Along the same lines, sometimes I want to call loadData() from the menu. Directly following loadData() if I try to fire a toast on the next line this causes a forceclose, which is also because of how I'm implementing ProgressDialog. • Button click does not start Service in Android App Widget

  I'm having trouble starting a Service to update an AppWidget that I'm creating as an exercise. I'm trying to get the latitude and longitude of spoofed location data from DDMS to display in the widget. The widget uses a service to update the TextView, which may be slightly overkill, but I wanted to follow the template that seems to be common in AppWidgets that do more work (like the Forecast widget or the Wiktionary widget). Right now, I'm not getting any error messages or strange behavior; nothing at all happens when the button is pressed. I'm a bit mystified as to what might be wrong. Could anyone out there point me in the right direction? Additionally, if my logic for location is faulty, I'd love recommendations on that too. I've looked at several blogs, the Google examples, and the documentation, but I feel a little fuzzy on how it works. By some logic upon this action the bean also updates its category field. This change should be reflected in the form. Questions: What scope shall I use for EntryRecorder? Request may not be satisfactory for multiple AJAX requests, while session will not work with multiple browser windows per one session. How can I register my updateCategory() action in EntryRecorder so that it is triggered when the bean is updated?

• How to return a MVC View to a $.Ajax JSON POST

  I am sending a $.Ajax POST to a MVC Controller function with parameters and returning a JasonResult successfully. What I need to happen is that the current View be returned (as if it was not a JSON request and I was returning the Viewdata). The Viewdata has been updated and the page needs to be redrawn. In short, I want the MVC Action to respond back to the $Ajax request correctly, and then have the page redrawn using the updated Viewdata. Hope this makes sense, coming down with a bad cold.

  How does CouchDB handles conflicts while doing bi-directional replication? For example: Lets say there are two address book databases (in server A and B). There is a document for Jack which contains contact details of Jack. Server A and B are replicated and both have the same version of Jack document. In server A, Jack's mobile no is updated. In server B, Jack's address is updated. Now when we do bi-directional replication there is a conflict. How does couchDB handles it? If we initiate replication in a Java program, is there a way to know whether there were any conflicts from the java program?

  hi, i am having problem updating a blob with hibernate. (i am using Hiberante 3.3.1-GA) my model have these getters/setters for hibernate, i.e. internally i deal with byte[] so any getter/setter convert the byte[] to blog. I can create an initial object without problem, but if I try to change the content of the blob, the database column is not updated.   Google uses bsdiff and Courgette for patching binary files like the Chrome distribution. Do any similar tools exist for patching jar files? I am updating jar files remotely over a bandwidth-limited connection and would like to minimize the amount of data sent. I do have some control over the client machine to some extent (i.e. I can run scripts locally) and I am guaranteed that the target application will not be running at the time. I know that I can patch java applications by putting updated class files in the classpath, but I would prefer a cleaner method for doing updates. It would be good if I could start with the target jar file, apply a binary patch, and then wind up with an updated jar file that is identical (bitwise) to the new jar (from which the patch was created).

• CSS Files Don't Refresh with Wicket (Launched in Intellij via Start.java)

  I have create a skeleton Wicket project using mvn archetype:create -DarchetypeGroupId=org.apache.wicket -DarchetypeArtifactId=wicket-archetype-quickstart -DarchetypeVersion=1.4-rc4 -DgroupId=com.mycompany -DartifactId=myproject All the configuration/importing new project with Maven/Intellij worked fine. I proceeded to add a basic CSS file to my start page, per the following recommended way of doing it in Wicket 1.4 public class BasePage extends WebPage { public BasePage() { add(CSSPackageResource.getHeaderContribution(BasePage.class, "main.css")); } } The main.css file has been put along side BasePage.java and BasePage.html in /src/main/java. I launch the application with Start.java. The problem is when I make changes to the CSS file it is not being picked up when I relaunch Start.java. (Changes to the java and html files are being updated when I change them) I made sure the browser cache was being cleared, and even valided the request/response in Firfox/Firebug. It seems like somewhere between Wicket's magic and the jetty instance Start.java creates the CSS file is being cached and not updated. Any ideas?

• WPF ComboBox Object Binding - not updating DataContext Object

  Hello, I have the following scenario: 1 class called 'Widget' with the properties: ID, Code, Description 1 class called 'MyWidget' with a property: m_Widget As Widget 1 ComboBox The ComboBox has a List(Of Widget) set as the ItemSource. I create an instance of 'MyWidget' named MyWidget1 and I set the property values of the m_Widget to match one of the items in the 'ComboBox List(Of Widget)'. I then set the DataContext of the ComboBox to MyWidget1.Widget. When I change the ComboBox selected item, only the ID property of 'MyWidget1.Widget' gets updated... How do I get the object 'Widget' on 'MyWidget1' to be updated instead of just 'MyWidget1.Widget.ID'? • Problems with Android Fragment back stack

  I've got a massive problem with the way the android fragment backstack seems to work and would be most grateful for any help that is offered. Imagine you have 3 Fragments [1] [2] [3] I want the user to be able to navigate [1] > [2] > [3] but on the way back (pressing back button) [3] > [1]. As I would have imagined this would be accomplished by not calling addToBackStack(..) when creating the transaction that brings fragment [2] into the fragment holder defined in XML. The reality of this seems as though that if I dont want [2] to appear again when user presses back button on [3], I must not call addToBackStack in the transaction that shows fragment [3]. This seems completely counter-intuitive (perhaps coming from the iOS world). Anyway if i do it this way, when I go from [1] > [2] and press back I arrive back at [1] as expected. If I go [1] > [2] > [3] and then press back I jump back to [1] (as expected). Now the strange behavior happens when I try and jump to [2] again from [1]. First of all [3] is briefly displayed before [2] comes into view. If I press back at this point [3] is displayed, and if I press back once again the app exits. Can anyone help me to understand whats going on here? • ListView items not responding to tap

  I'm just getting my feet wet with Android and have built a UI that contains a TabHost with three tabs. Each tab is powered by its own Activity. The first Tab contains a listview with a prepopulated set of rows and is built from a custom ArrayAdapter. The problem I'm running into is that none of the ListView rows are tappable. In other words, when I tap on them there is no orange selection. If I use the scroll ball on my Nexus One it will select, but any touch gestures don't seem to be responding. • Java Fx Data bind not working with File Read

  Hi I am using a very simple JavaFx client to upload files. I read the file in chunks of 1 MB (using Byte Buffer) and upload using multi part POST to a PHP script. I want to update the progress bar of my client to show progress after each chunk is uploaded. The calculations for upload progress look correct but the progress bar is not updated. I am using bind keyword. I am no JavaFx expert and I am hoping some one can point out my mistake. • ISQL Perform instruction: after editadd editupdate of table vs. after add update of table

  INFORMIX-SQL 7.3 Perform Screens: According to documentation, in an "after editadd editupdate of table" control block, its instructions are executed before the row is added or updated to the table, whereas in an "after add update of table" control block, its instructions are executed after the row has been added or updated to the table, supposedly meaning that any instructions which would alter values of field-tags linked to table.columns would not be committed to the table, but field-tags linked to displayonly fields will change?.. However, when using "after add update of table" I placed instructions which alter values for field-tags linked to table.columns and their displayed and committed values also changed!.. I would have thought that an "after add update of table" would only alter displayonly fields.

• Failed to resolve include text for file:SQLServer.ttinclude

  I updated to the version 3.0.0.3. Dragged the new ActiveRecord directory in VS08, and added the newer dll. I'm not sure whats going on yet. When I try to compile the project I get that error. My SVN server just lost my old version, so I'll have to download the older Subsonic version and see if that fixes the problem. I have no clue what I did wrong in the configuration as I updated to 3.0.0.3. (still a new users so I couldn't post a photo, but here a link to the error) link text

• Use of "setTimeout()" in my jQuery Expression

  I'm trying to add the JavaScript function setTimeout() to my jQuery expression. Without the setTimeout() my function loads a partial view with updated information when I enter text into my textbox. But, it loads the information with every keystroke. My logic is that if I can put in a timer then when the user stops typing, a second later the data is updated.   Hi, I got a problem migrating from VS.Net 2008 / MVC 1 to VS.NET 2010 (+C# 4.0) / MVC 2 The web.config has been updated, the site runs well in Cassini, but my problem now is deploying on IIS 6. I updated the web site to run using ASP.Net 4, but whatever URL I try, I always have a 404 error. It's as if the routing was not taken into account (yes, the wildcard mapping has been done). I do not understand this mess and could not google anything interesting... Thanks for your suggestions ! O.

• How do I handle dojo datagrid cell updates so I can post them back automatically to the server?

  I am using dojo datagrid to display my data. When the end user edit the cell values it should be updated in the server using ajax calls(when the focus goes out of the cell). Else, I should have a Edit & update/cancel buttons for each row to handle the same feature. But I don know how to place edit & update buttons inside the grid and capture their events. By default dojo updates only local the store value(client side). how can I save the updated cell values into the server? do we need to write any override methods to do so?? I am new to dojo. Any detailed explanation or sample codes would be much appreciated. Could anyone lend a hand to solve this issue?? Thank you Regards, Raj
