• Create a Font using strings pulled from a string table.

  I am writing a tool to create an otf or ttc with only characters defined in our localized string table, so we can cut down memory usage. I already have the information for the Japanese characters we are using but I am unable to find an example of creating a new font based around these characters. Does anyone know of a good example or even the interface I can access to do this? I am working in C# with .NET 3.5. I am looking into Volt and TTOasm from Microsoft, but I am not sure if they will do exactly what I need. Any information is appreciated. Thanks, Matt Smith

• Multiple TinyMCE editors, but only one toolbar?

  Hello there. I've looked around the forum, but cannot seem to find a definite answer to this problem... I'm using jQuery and TinyMCE on our website. I've gone through the docs of TinyMCE, but am still getting lost I'm afraid. We're doing an interface that requires edit-in-place in multiple places in the page. The only thing is, each of these will have all the editing choices from TinyMCE in one toolbar at the top. So, to recap it, it's multiple editors (that each have no toolbars of their own, just a place to edit or select the text) and only one toolbar at the top of the page to control whichever textbox is active at the time. How could this be achieved? Is it even possible? Any help, any push in the right direction, any hints/tips/knowledge at all on this problem would be a great, great help. Thanks, James

  My problem is as follows. I have a multidimensional array. I declare my array. Then, I run some code that populates my array partially. Then i run a function, which among others is supposed to modify some item in my array from within the function. This is unfortunately not working. So my question is simple. Is it normal? • How to get Jquery form plugin and Jquery validation to work together.

  Hello guys, I was hoping someone can shed some light on what might be occurring on my page. Okay what I currently have on my page is a simple form that collects first name, last name, city, state and email. Once submitted it will hit a PHP page that updates our DB and echo's back to the designted div with a class of .response. I am using jquery.validation and placing that dynamic function within the submitHandler like so: submitHandler: function(form) { $(form).ajaxSubmit({ target: '.response', // target element(s) to be updated with server response resetForm: true, success: function() { $('#commentform').hide(); $('.response').show(); } }); So what I am getting is a div that is not being populated with the echo from my php file in FF and in IE I am getting the message of thank you but the page is taking me to the update.php script in which I have the form action pointing to.   I've seen -1 used in various APIs, most commonly when searching into a "collection" with zero-based indices, usually to indicate the "not found" index. This "works" because -1 is never a legal index to begin with. It seems that any negative number should work, but I think -1 is almost always used, as some sort of (unwritten?) convention. I would like to limit the scope to Java at least for now. My questions are: What are the official words from Sun regarding using -1 as a "special" return value like this? What quotes are there regarding this issue, from e.g. James Gosling, Josh Bloch, or even other authoritative figures outside of Java? What were some of the notable discussions regarding this issue in the past?

• Screen location of NSToolbarItem

  How can I get the on-screen location of a button in a toolbar? That is getting the rectangle frame of an NSToolbarItem? The [NSToolbarItem view] method seems to always return nil whenever the toolbar item is only a simple action button and thus I couldn't use the normal NSView methods to pinpoint the toolbar button's on-screen position. Background I'm trying to use Matt Gemmell's MAAttachedWindow component to point to a specific toolbar button. The component requires an NSPoint object to "point" the user to a location on the screen.   I am a MySQL newbie, so sorry if this is a dumb question.. These are my tables. student table: SID (primary) student_name advisor (foreign key to faculty.facultyID) requested_advisor (foreign key to faculty.facultyID) faculty table: facultyID (primary key) advisor_name I want to query a table that shows everything in the student table, but I want advisor and requested_advisor to show up as names, not the ID numbers. so like it displays like this on the webpage: Student Name: Jane Smith SID: 860123456 Current Advisor: John Smith Requested advisor: James Smith not like this Student Name: Jane Smith SID: 860123456 Current Advisor: 1 Requested advisor: 2 SELECT student.student_name, SID, student_email, faculty.advisor_name FROM student INNER JOIN faculty ON student.advisor = faculty.facultyID; this comes out close, but I don't know how to get the requested_advisor to show up as a name.

• SQLAlchemy custom sorting algorithms when using SQL indexes

  Is it possible to write custom collation functions with indexes in SQLAlchemy? SQLite for example allows specifying the sorting function at a C level as sqlite3_create_collation(). An implementation of some of the Unicode collation algorithm has been provided by James Tauber here, which for example sorts all the "a"'s close together whether they have accents on them or not. Other examples of why this might be useful is for different alphabet orders (languages other than English) and sorting numeric values (sorting 10 after 9 rather than codepoint order.) Is this possible in SQLAlchemy? If not, is it supported by the pysqlite3 or MySQLdb modules, or for any other SQL database modules supported by python for that matter? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

• Efficient data structure design

  Hi there, I need to match a series of user inputed words against a large dictionary of words (to ensure the entered value exists). So if the user entered: "orange" it should match an entry "orange' in the dictionary. Now the catch is that the user can also enter a wildcard or series of wildcard characters like say "or__ge" which would also match "orange" The key requirements are: * this should be as fast as possible. * use the smallest amount of memory to achieve it. If the size of the word list was small I could use a string containing all the words and use regular expressions. however given that the word list could contain potentially hundreds of thousands of enteries I'm assuming this wouldn't work. So is some sort of 'tree' be the way to go for this...? Any thoughts or suggestions on this would be totally appreciated! Thanks in advance, Matt

• How can I get to the value of my WPF UserControl DependencyProperty from UI Automation Framework?

  Hi, I'm having trouble getting access to my WPF UserControl DependencyProperty values through the UI Automation Framework. I've used James McCaffreys article in MSDN as a starting point (Automating IO Tests in WPF Applications, MSDN March 2009), but I can only see properties etc in standard controls such as buttons. I'm assuming there's some Automation interface I have to implement on my UserControl, but what and how? I can already see my control fine e.g. in UISpy, but I can't see the dependency properties within it. • Can't seem to get Prototype AJAX form validation to work in conjunction with Codeigniter

  Is there some kind of trick involved? Here's how I would envision it working: 1) User tries submitting the form 2) Event.observe captures this and sends an AJAX request to a special validation URL (PHP using Codeigniter) 3) If no errors were returned, continue submitting the original form 4) If errors were found, cancel form submission and display Mostly, I can't seem to get a separate AJAX validation request to work as the form continues submitting. I could use Event.stop(event), but have not found a way to re-start the process if no validation errors exist from the validation call. I'd post code, but I have about 15 examples of things I've tried and it would just clutter this question. Any ideas? :-( I didn't think form validation would be this difficult. Many thanks, - Matt

  Hi, Hope my subject line was descriptive enough. Basically, I have a table called Students, and one called Absences. The Students table contains student information (Name, DOB, StudentID etc.), the Absences table contains any absences (Date, Reason, related by StudentID). I want to get a full list of the students, plus a count of their absences. Sample results would be: StudentName Absences ------------- ----------- Johnny 3 Mark 2 James 1 Anthony 0 Sharon 0 Can someone suggest a way I should tackle this problem? • Replacement for PEAR: MDB2 on PHP 5.3

  I've been using pear packages in php for years. I'm in the process of upgrading/moving a sites that uses the MDB2 pear package and it has not been updated for PHP 5.3.X. In 5.3, MDB2 is returning those new annoying errors. Unknown: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in /usr/local/lib/php/MDB2.php on line 390 I know I can change my error reporting settings to get rid of them, but I'd rather not make any exceptions. Anyway, Is anyone else using MDB2 these days and have a solution? Are there similar database packages you recommend? Thanks. -Matt

• Remove Duplicates from JavaScript Array

  This seems like such a simple need but I've spent an inordinate amount of time trying to do this to no avail. I've looked at other questions on SO and I haven't found what I need. I have a very simple JavaScript array such as peoplenames = new Array("Mike","Matt","Nancy","Adam","Jenny","Nancy","Carl"); that may or may not contain duplicates and I need to simply remove the duplicates and put the unique values in a new array. That's it. I could point to all the codes that I've tried but I think it's useless because they don't work. If anyone has done this and can help me out I'd really appreciate it. JavaScript or jQuery solutions are both acceptable.

  Hi All, I am planning to use Apache lucense in one of my projects, I want to index files based on the file properties (I won’t be indexing the data) and I want lucense to query the index so that I can quickly find list of files to based on the properties . E.g: give me all the files with access time greater than 10/10/2005 and access time less than 10/04/2010 and file created by james. Can i use Lucene for these kind of projects ? or i better of using windows search (the foor print is very heavy almost 5 MB :( ) and i have to bundling this as part of my application is seems to tough. Can you please suggest is there any better alternatives here?

  I'm having trouble with Twitter's implementation of an oauth_bridge_code for the @anywhere api. I've seen a few walkthrough's on how to use this functionality but I can't seem to get the request to work for me. I'm using Ruby on Rails with the oauth gem. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong (besides possibly trying to hit functionality that may not be in place)? Greatly appreciated!

• Algorithm to find a measurement of similarity between lists.

  Given that I have two lists that each contain a separate subset of a common superset, is there an algorithm to give me a similarity measurement? Example: A = { John, Mary, Kate, Peter } and B = { Peter, James, Mary, Kate } How similar are these two lists? Note that I do not know all elements of the common superset. Update: I was unclear and I have probably used the word 'set' in a sloppy fashion. My apologies. Clarification: Order is of importance. If identical elements occupy the same position in the list, we have the highest similarity for that element. The similarity decreased the farther apart the identical elements are. The similarity is even lower if the element only exists in one of the lists. I could even add the extra dimension that lower indices are of greater value, so a a[1] == b[1] is worth more than a[9] == b[9], but that is mainly cause I am curious.

  Hi, For various reasons, i'm trying to write my own input keyboard. So far all is going well except that of creating the suggestions. I've found the latinIME algorithm, which is all good. However i'm having major difficulty working out how to load the dictionary in the first place. I've had a good look round the net, and found various suggestions, but no definitive answers, and i cant seem to get any of them to work.   Hello everyone :) I've very recently decided to teach myself c++ and win32 programming after learning vb.net, and i've got a very simple question: How can I determine what version of the Windows SDK is installed on my computer? I'm asking so I can install the latest version if it isn't installed allready, before i start playing around with c++. I'm using Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 SP1 as my IDE.   I was reading about the new concurrent collection classes in .NET 4 on James Michael Hare's blog, and the page talking about ConcurrentQueue<T> says: It’s still recommended, however, that for empty checks you call IsEmpty instead of comparing Count to zero. I'm curious - if there is a reason to use IsEmpty instead of comparing Count to 0, why does the class not internally check IsEmpty and return 0 before doing any of the expensive work to count? E.g.: public int Count { get { // Check IsEmpty so we can bail out quicker if (this.IsEmpty) return 0; // Rest of "expensive" counting code } } It seems strange to suggest this if it could be "fixed" so easily with no side-effects?

• How can I copy a queryset to a new model in django admin?

  I'm trying to write an action that allows the user to select the queryset and copy it to a new table. So: John, Mark, James, Tyler and Joe are in a table 1( called round 1) The user selects the action that say to "move to next round" and those same instances that were chosen are now also in the table for "round 2". I started trying with an action but don't really know where to go from here: def Round_2(modeladmin, request, queryset): For X in queryset: X.pk = None perform.short_description = "Move to Round 2" How can I copy them to the next table with all of their information (pk doesn't have to be the same)?
