  I'm seeking a nice complete open source django application to study and learn best practices from, or even use as a template. The tutorials only go so far, and django is super flexible which can lead one to paining themselves into a corner. Ideally such a template / example would: Ignore django admin, and implement full CRUD outside the admin. Be built like a large application in terms of best practices and patterns.   I'm hoping the SO crowd can help me expand my definitions of methodology buzzwords such as SCRUM, Agile, XP, Waterfall, etc, and give some enlightenment as to which approach is the best. If there's some specific book or web page that really captures your philosophy on constructing software with teams of programmers, please indicate it. EDIT: Please don't say, "I use a little of everything." without any more detail. If you haven't read any books or websites that have been helpful, now's your chance to enlighten the world by describing your experience-learned methodology. I would encourage the moderators to up-vote more descriptive answers. • Writing a job requirement for a web application developer

  I'm currently writing a job requirement for a software engineer position for my company, in which we are looking for a developer to work on client-side web application work. How should I title the job title / position? I don't necessarily want to call it a "Web Developer", for fear that it might attract more designer-y types. On the other hand, "Software Engineer" doesn't really give the indication that the work, while application based, will be web-based. Is "Web Application Software Engineer" a valid position title? Also, I'm somewhat torn on what the required skills set should be. I don't necessarily think that the ideal candidate should have x years of experience in say, JavaScript or ActionScript, but rather am just looking for someone who has experience in developing client-side applications, and is willing to learn and develop web applications. My current attempt at this, is that I have a section in which I state: Experience in the following frameworks and technologies are a plus, but not necessarily required for the position:

From what I understand this days to get hired you need to be able to know a variety of technologies at least that is the case in Romania.Most of the jobs I have seen even at entry level asks you to know the following: HTML/CSS Javascript , a framework preferable jQuery , Ajax a server side language in my case PHP and a framework SQL and an RDBMS in my case MySql a CMS in my case Wordpress My question is how well should me or anyone looking to get hired as a web developer for there first job should we know this technologies in order to get hired and what else should we aim to learn to have a better chance of getting hired. I don't know if the question is right for this forum but I believe that this could help many of the students and anyone who is taking an interest in web development to know what they should expect from there employers when they try to find work.

The intent is to teach programming concepts in the students' native language before introducing English-based mainstream languages. There are many other Non-English-based programming languages and there is even a related question in Stack Overflow. I have several questions regarding these languages: Has anyone on this site learned to program using a non-English-based language? If so, how difficult was the transition to the first English-based language? Is there any research-based evidence that non-English speakers learn programming faster/better using languages with keywords in their native language instead of English-based languages?

The knowledge in some places still seems to be non-systematic and don't provide a very strong base to solve the problems as good as I want to do it. • How to install opencv on 9.10?

  Hello All, I am trying to learn image processing and obviously opencv is one of the best options. Usually synaptic does all my installing work for me so I just checked the repos. But in the repos there is only on libcv1 and it is listed as 1.0.0-6.2ubuntu1. Does that mean it is version 1.0 of opencv? Also I found this page in community wiki https://help.ubuntu.com/community/OpenCV It says I need to install libcv4 which is not in my repos. I also downloaded the source but it uses something called cmake, never used it before. Is it similar to make?

• Easy to use cross-platform 3D engines for C++ game development?

  I want to try my hand at writing a 3D game. However I don't want to start at such a low level of drawing individual triangles and writing my own 3D object loader and so on. I've heard of things like Irrlicht, Crystal Space 3D, and Cafu, but I don't have any experience with any of them. I'm looking for suggestions from people who have experience with these or other engines on which ones are well written, and are easy to get started using, without having to learn a ton of 3D math theory and how GPU's work internally.
