  • How to make a table, which is wider than screen size, scrollable?

    - by understack
I've a table with 2 columns and each column is 800px wide. I want to show this table in 800x50 window. So there should be horizontal and vertical scrollbar to view complete table. While I've found few related solutions (this and this) on SO, they only work if table width is smaller than screen size. In my case screen size is 1200px and total table width is 1600px. How could I do this? i want to achieve something like this.

  • Will a mulitouch touch screen equipped PC allow me to simulate real Android UI's without an Android device ?

    - by Scott Davies
Hi, I have recently purchased a Samsung Galaxy Tab as an Android 2.x testbed (I am aware that 2.3 might not run on it, but it appears to be a good 1.x - 2.x device with a large enough screen to approximate the variety of screens on different phones). I would wait for Honeycomb equipped devices (such as the Motorola XOOM mentioned at CES 2011), but these are slated for some time in Q1 (likely end of Q1 for the Canadian market). If I get a multitouch capable PC and install the Android SDK and simulator, will I be able to use the multitouch functionality of the PC with the simulator to approximate a real device ? Does anyone use a multitouch touch screen PC for Android development ? I assume that this would work as the PC would recognize my fingers like the mouse, but I'd like to find out before purchasing the PC. Thanks for your help, Scott

  • Porting a GUI from a pc to a wince device - issue is with the size of the screen

    - by ame
I have to port a GUI that is currently running on a pc, to a wince device. I have already compiled the code on a win CE platform, the problem is now with the size of the screen of the device which is smaller than some of the dialog boxes of the GUI. I could resize some them in resource view of visual studio 2005. I am unable to proceed further as a lot of screens have bitmaps mapped to them and i cannot just resize the dialog boxes without changing the corresponding bitmaps. What is the best way to proceed- my last resort would be to disable the bitmaps and redraw them at a later stage. is there some method of automatically mapping the size of the screen to all the dialog boxes so that they would automatically resize (alongwith the assocaiated buttons etc)

  • How do I make a full screen scrolling messagebox or window?

    - by chobo2
Hi First let me start of saying I know absolutely nothing about c++ and I am really just more interested in getting this to work then learning c++(I got enough on my plate to learn). So basically I am trying to make a terms of service for my windows mobile 6 professional application but it seems I need to use c++ to do it. After hours of searching I found a solution but it developed for windows mobile standard. So they somehow used c++ to make a message box and on standard devices(ie non touch screen phones) the message box can have like scrolling. For some reason this is not the case with professional devices(touch screen devices). So my message box goes off the page and you can never accept or decline the terms. So your stuck and on the screen forever till you do some sort of soft restart. http://www.mobilepractices.com/2008/10/setupdll-sample-and-walkthrough-terms.html The above link is the tutorial but here is the actual file that seems to display the message. #include "stdafx.h" #include "ce_setup.h" // This is a variable containing the text to be displayed // in the Terms & Conditions dialog TCHAR Message[] = _T("TERMS & CONDITIONS\r\n ") _T("Selecting YES you're accepting our terms & conditions.\r\n") _T("This is just a sample application.\r\n") _T("From http://www.mobilepractices.com\r\n") _T("You can replace this text with your own.\r\n") _T("We're using a setup.dll to show this dialog.\r\n") _T("Extra line to force vertical scrollbar.\r\n") _T("Extra line to force vertical scrollbar.\r\n") _T("Extra line to force vertical scrollbar.\r\n") _T("Extra line to force vertical scrollbar.\r\n") _T("Extra line to force vertical scrollbar.\r\n") _T("Extra line to force vertical scrollbar.\r\n") _T("Last line.\r\n") ; // This function will be called when the user // tries to install the cab. According to its return // value the installation continues or is cancelled. // As this could be called more than once // (i.e. if there is not enough space on the target) // we should take care about fFirstCall parameter // to show the dialog only once. codeINSTALL_INIT Install_Init( HWND hwndParent, BOOL fFirstCall, BOOL fPreviouslyInstalled, LPCTSTR pszInstallDir ) { if (!fFirstCall || ::MessageBoxW(0, Message, _T("SplashScreenSample") , MB_YESNO) == IDYES) return codeINSTALL_INIT_CONTINUE; else return codeINSTALL_INIT_CANCEL; } So I want to change this to something that can scroll. Can I use like a panel control since I know what has scroll or something else? Thanks

  • How to set a dialog themed activity width to screen width?

    - by Pentium10
    I am followin the method described here to create an EditText input activity. But the view doesn't fill the width of the screen. How can I tell to fit the screen width? <activity android:name="TextEntryActivity" android:label="My Activity" android:theme="@android:style/Theme.Dialog"/> - <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:orientation="vertical" android:gravity="right" android:layout_height="wrap_content"> <EditText android:text="@+id/txtValue" android:id="@+id/txtValue" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content"></EditText> <Button android:text="Done" android:id="@+id/btnDone" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content"></Button> </LinearLayout>

  • How do you determine when an object is drawn on-screen in OpenGL?

    - by Harry
I'm extremely new to OpenGL. I'm writing a program that displays flying text on screen. I need to know when certain text string appears (drawn) onto the screen and are visible to the user. The program needs to identify which text strings are displayed. At first, I started to think that I could use OpenGL's picking mechanism, but so far I've only seen examples where the selection area is focused on some sort of user interaction. I want to know what objects are displayed on the entire window area. This leads me to think I'm on the wrong track... Am I missing something? Any suggestions are welcome.

  • How to Make a Game like Space Invaders - Ray Wenderlich (why do my space invaders scroll off screen)

    - by Erv Noel
I'm following this tutorial(http://www.raywenderlich.com/51068/how-to-make-a-game-like-space-invaders-with-sprite-kit-tutorial-part-1) and I've run into a problem right after the part where I add [self determineInvaderMovementDirection]; to my GameScene.m file (specifically to my moveInvadersForUpdate method) The tutorial states that the space invaders should be moving accordingly after adding this piece of code but when I run they move to the left and they do not come back. I'm not sure what I am doing wrong as I have followed this tutorial very carefully. Any help or clarification would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance ! I'd like to have the width of my table 100% of screen width - so flexible to different screen sizes. is it possible to have my columns automatically resize proportionately? I've tried give the td's percentage widths but this doesnt seem to work, firebug shows that the tbody isnt filling the tables width? <table class=""> <tr class="headings"> <td class="entry"> </td> <td class="calendar">Availability Calendar </td> <td class="deals">Last Minute Deals </td> <td class="ann">Announcements </td> <td class="banners">Banners </td> </tr> </table>

  • What is the best strategy for a streaming screen capture application ?

    - by The_AlienCoder
Ok Ive figured out how to do a screen capture of my desktop using Windows Media Encoder 9 + SDK and saving it as a movie on my hardrive. But now I want to take my project further and stream a realtime screen capture of my desktop . The idea is that users accessing my asp.net website will be able to view whatever Im doing on my desktop in real time via the video streaming from my computer. I really dont need the source code just the best strategy, procedure and server requirements. How will users access the streaming video on my website? Will it work on my godaddy shared hosting account or at what point will I need an upgrade? Will I be saving the stream to a file on the server for users to access or is there a way to stream directly ? I just need someone to point me in the right direction...

  • Animation Color [on hold]

    - by user2425429
    I'm having problems in my java program for animation. I'm trying to draw a hexagon with a shape similar to that of a trapezoid. Then, I'm making it move to the right for a certain amount of time (DEMO_TIME). Animation and ScreenManager are "API" classes, and AnimationTest1 is a demo. In my test program, it runs with a black screen and white stroke color. I'd like to know why this happened and how to fix it. I'm a beginner, so I apologize for this question being stupid to all you game programmers. Here is the code I have now: import java.awt.DisplayMode; import java.awt.Graphics; import java.awt.Graphics2D; import java.awt.Image; import java.awt.Polygon; import java.util.ArrayList; import java.util.List; import java.util.concurrent.Executor; import java.util.concurrent.Executors; import javax.swing.ImageIcon; public class AnimationTest1 { public static void main(String args[]) { AnimationTest1 test = new AnimationTest1(); test.run(); } private static final DisplayMode POSSIBLE_MODES[] = { new DisplayMode(800, 600, 32, 0), new DisplayMode(800, 600, 24, 0), new DisplayMode(800, 600, 16, 0), new DisplayMode(640, 480, 32, 0), new DisplayMode(640, 480, 24, 0), new DisplayMode(640, 480, 16, 0) }; private static final long DEMO_TIME = 4000; private ScreenManager screen; private Image bgImage; private Animation anim; public void loadImages() { // create animation List<Polygon> polygons=new ArrayList(); int[] x=new int[]{20,4,4,20,40,56,56,40}; int[] y=new int[]{20,32,40,44,44,40,32,20}; polygons.add(new Polygon(x,y,8)); anim = new Animation(); //# of frames long startTime = System.currentTimeMillis(); long currTimer = startTime; long elapsedTime = 0; boolean animated = false; Graphics2D g = screen.getGraphics(); int width=200; int height=200; while (currTimer - startTime < DEMO_TIME*2) { //draw the polygons if(!animated){ for(int j=0; j<polygons.size();j++){ for(int pos=0; pos<polygons.get(j).npoints; pos++){ polygons.get(j).xpoints[pos]+=1; } } anim.setNewPolyFrame(polygons , width , height , 64); } else{ // update animation anim.update(elapsedTime); draw(g); g.dispose(); screen.update(); try{ Thread.sleep(20); } catch(InterruptedException ie){} } if(currTimer - startTime == DEMO_TIME) animated=true; elapsedTime = System.currentTimeMillis() - currTimer; currTimer += elapsedTime; } } public void run() { screen = new ScreenManager(); try { DisplayMode displayMode = screen.findFirstCompatibleMode(POSSIBLE_MODES); screen.setFullScreen(displayMode); loadImages(); } finally { screen.restoreScreen(); } } public void draw(Graphics g) { // draw background g.drawImage(bgImage, 0, 0, null); // draw image g.drawImage(anim.getImage(), 0, 0, null); } } ScreenManager: import java.awt.Color; import java.awt.DisplayMode; import java.awt.Graphics; import java.awt.Graphics2D; import java.awt.GraphicsConfiguration; import java.awt.GraphicsDevice; import java.awt.GraphicsEnvironment; import java.awt.Toolkit; import java.awt.Window; import java.awt.event.KeyListener; import java.awt.event.MouseListener; import java.awt.image.BufferStrategy; import java.awt.image.BufferedImage; import javax.swing.JFrame; import javax.swing.JPanel; public class ScreenManager extends JPanel { private GraphicsDevice device; /** Creates a new ScreenManager object. */ public ScreenManager() { GraphicsEnvironment environment=GraphicsEnvironment.getLocalGraphicsEnvironment(); device = environment.getDefaultScreenDevice(); setBackground(Color.white); } /** Returns a list of compatible display modes for the default device on the system. */ public DisplayMode[] getCompatibleDisplayModes() { return device.getDisplayModes(); } /** Returns the first compatible mode in a list of modes.   • Why do messenger keeps coming up when I adjust screen brightness?

    - by Asaf R
My Dell Studio XPS 13 has a brightness up & down buttons (Fn + up arrow / down arrow), as do most laptops have. It's running Windows 7 64bit and I've installed Windows Live Messenger (build 14 and something) on it. When I hit Fn + down arrow, to reduce screen brightness, the Messenger window pops up. That's true whether it has been running in background (system tray / minimized) before or not. Note, to make messenger hide itself to the system tray, I've set it to Vista Compatibility mode. I don't think that has anything to do with it though, since if I shut compatibility mode off, the problem persists. There's a thread on the matter here, but with no solution. Thanks, Asaf SOLUTION: Stop Intellitype when using internal keyboard. See detailed howto here. EDIT: Some new findings on the matter - If I exit messenger entirely and restart (or simply stop) the service "Windows Live ID Sign-in Assistant" the problem is solved until I run messenger again. It persists even after entirely closing messenger, until I restart the said service. EDIT2: The above service "Windows Live ID Sign-in Assistant" actual name is wlidsvc. There's no shortcut defined for messenger, nor is there any other hot key in its preferences. EDIT3: I'm not sure if it's relates, but some of the Fn keys are not working - Fn + F1 doesn't put the machine to sleep, Fn + F3 doesn't show battery status. EDIT4: Problem probably relates to conflict with IntelliType Pro. See my answer below. Said conflict also causes Undo command when disabling Wireless (Wireless touch button), and other side effects for various keys.

  • PC shut downs automatically after 10-20 second. No POST screen, no beeps

    - by emzero
I have this not-so-old computer that's not being used for a year or so. Specs: Motherboard: ASUS PN5-E SLI CPU: Intel Core2Duo E4300 RAM:2x2GB SuperTalent DDR2-800 VGA: Zogis GeForce 7950GT PSU: Vitsuba San-55-S 550w HD: No hardrives yet When I power on the computer, everything seem to start, but right away the whole system shuts down. I've removed and changed the RAM sticks, take out the VGA, everything I could think of. So what could it be causing this? The PSU? The motherboard is dead? The CPU? Any help to isolate the problem will be useful. Thanks PS: Please don't close the question, this could be helpful to anybody having a similar problem, even with different hardware. UPDATE I've removed the old thermal paste and apply a brand new one. I also cleaned every dust using a high pressure gas dust remover. Checked for bad capacitors, all of them seem ok. Opened the PSU, removed big giant dust balls, cleaned with high pressure dust remover. Still the same problem, but now it stays powered on for almost 20 seconds maybe. But no POST screen, no beeps at all, nothing. So I suspect it's a motherboard or PSU failure. Unfortunately I don't have an energy tester to test the PSU... Don't know what else to try. I don't have another 775-motherboard to test the CPU, RAM and VGA with it.

  • Screenshot Tour: Ubuntu Touch 14.04 on a Nexus 7

    - by Chris Hoffman
Ubuntu 14.04 LTS will “form the basis of the first commercially available Ubuntu tablets,” according to Canonical. We installed Ubuntu Touch 14.04 on our own hardware to see what those tablets will be like. We don’t recommend installing this yourself, as it’s still not a polished, complete experience. We’re using “Ubuntu Touch” as shorthand here — apparently this project’s new name is “Ubuntu For Devices.” The Welcome Screen Ubuntu’s touch interface is all about edge swipes and hidden interface elements — it has a lot in common with Windows 8, actually. You’ll see the welcome screen when you boot up or unlock a Ubuntu tablet or phone. If you have new emails, text messages, or other information, it will appear on this screen along with the time and date. If you don’t, you’ll just see a message saying “No data sources available.” The Dash Swipe in from the right edge of the welcome screen to access the Dash, or home screen. This is actually very similar to the Dash on Ubuntu’s Unity desktop. This isn’t a surprise — Canonical wants the desktop and touch versions of Ubuntu to use the same code. In the future, the desktop and touch versions of Ubuntu will use the same version of Unity and Unity will adjust its interface depending on what type of device your’e using. Here you’ll find apps you have installed and apps available to install. Tap an installed app to launch it or tap an available app to view more details and install it. Tap the My apps or Available headings to view a complete list of apps you have installed or apps you can install. Tap the Search box at the top of the screen to start searching — this is how you’d search for new apps to install. As you’d expect, a touch keyboard appears when you tap in the Search field or any other text field. The launcher isn’t just for apps. Tap the Apps heading at the top of the screen and you’ll see hidden text appear — Music, Video, and Scopes. This hidden navigation is used throughout Ubuntu’s different apps and can be easy to miss at first. Swipe to the left or right to move between these screens. These screens are also similar to the different panels in Unity on the desktop. The Scopes section allows you to view different search scopes you have installed. These are used to search different sources when you start a search from the Dash. Search from the Music or Videos scopes to search for local media files on your device or media files online. For example, searching in the Music scope will show you music results from Grooveshark by default. Navigating Ubuntu Touch Swipe in from the left edge anywhere on the system to open the launcher, a bar with shortcuts to apps. This launcher is very similar to the launcher on the left of Ubuntu’s Unity desktop — that’s the whole idea, after all. Once you’ve opened an app, you can leave the app by swiping in from the left. The launcher will appear — keep moving your finger towards the right edge of teh screen. This will swipe the current app off the screen, taking you back to the Dash. Once back on the Dash, you’ll see your open apps represented as thumbnails under Recent. Tap a thumbnail here to go back to a running app. To remove an app from here, long-press it and tap the X button that appears. Swipe in from the right edge in any app to quickly switch between recent apps. Swipe in from the right edge and hold your finger down to reveal an application switcher that shows all your recent apps and lets you choose between them. Swipe down from the top of the screen to access the indicator panel. Here you can connect to Wi-Fi networks, view upcoming events, control GPS and Bluetooth hardware, adjust sound settings, see incoming messages, and more. This panel is for quick access to hardware settings and notifications, just like the indicators on Ubuntu’s Unity desktop. The Apps System settings not included in the pull-down panel are available in the System Settings app. To access it, tap My apps on the Dash and tap System Settings, search for the System Settings app, or open the launcher bar and tap the settings icon. The settings here a bit limited compared to other operating systems, but many of the important options are available here. You can add Evernote, Ubuntu One, Twitter, Facebook, and Google accounts from here. A free Ubuntu One account is mandatory for downloading and updating apps. A Google account can be used to sync contacts and calendar events. Some apps on Ubuntu are native apps, while many are web apps. For example, the Twitter, Gmail, Amazon, Facebook, and eBay apps included by default are all web apps that open each service’s mobile website as an app. Other applications, such as the Weather, Calendar, Dialer, Calculator, and Notes apps are native applications. Theoretically, both types of apps will be able to scale to different screen resolutions. Ubuntu Touch and Ubuntu desktop may one day share the same apps, which will adapt to different display sizes and input methods. Like Windows 8 apps, Ubuntu apps hide interface elements by default, providing you with a full-screen view of the content. Swipe up from the bottom of an app’s screen to view its interface elements. For example, swiping up from the bottom of the Web Browser app reveals Back, Forward, and Refresh buttons, along with an address bar and Activity button so you can view current and recent web pages. Swipe up even more from the bottom and you’ll see a button hovering in the middle of the app. Tap the button and you’ll see many more settings. This is an overflow area for application options and functions that can’t fit on the navigation bar. The Terminal app has a few surprising Easter eggs in this panel, including a “Hack into the NSA” option. Tap it and the following text will appear in the terminal: That’s not very nice, now tracing your location . . . . . . . . . . . .Trace failed You got away this time, but don’t try again. We’d expect to see such Easter eggs disappear before Ubuntu Touch actually ships on real devices. Ubuntu Touch has come a long way, but it’s still not something you want to use today. For example, it doesn’t even have a built-in email client — you’ll have to us your email service’s mobile website. Few apps are available, and many of the ones that are are just mobile websites. It’s not a polished operating system intended for normal users yet — it’s more of a preview for developers and device manufacturers. If you really want to try it yourself, you can install it on a Wi-Fi Nexus 7 (2013), Nexus 10, or Nexus 4 device. Follow Ubuntu’s installation instructions here.

  • C# Object Problem - Can't Solve It

    - by user612041
    I'm getting the error 'Object reference not set to an instance of an object'. I've tried looking at similar problems but genuinely cannot see what the problem is with my program. The line of code that I am having an error with is: labelQuestion.Text = table.Rows[0]["Question"].ToString(); Here is my code in its entirety: using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.ComponentModel; using System.Data; using System.Drawing; using System.Linq; using System.Text; using System.Windows.Forms; using System.Data.OleDb; using System.Data.Sql; using System.Data.SqlClient; namespace Quiz_Test { public partial class Form1 : Form { public Form1() { InitializeComponent(); } String chosenAnswer, correctAnswer; DataTable table; private void Form1_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { //declare connection string using windows security string cnString = "Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source=C:\\Users\\Hannah\\Desktop\\QuizQuestions.accdb"; //declare Connection, command and other related objects OleDbConnection conGet = new OleDbConnection(cnString); OleDbCommand cmdGet = new OleDbCommand(); //try //{ //open connection conGet.Open(); //String correctAnswer; cmdGet.CommandType = CommandType.Text; cmdGet.Connection = conGet; cmdGet.CommandText = "SELECT * FROM QuizQuestions ORDER BY rnd()"; OleDbDataReader reader = cmdGet.ExecuteReader(); reader.Read(); labelQuestion.Text = table.Rows[0]["Question"].ToString(); radioButton1.Text = table.Rows[0]["Answer 1"].ToString(); radioButton2.Text = table.Rows[0]["Answer 2"].ToString(); radioButton3.Text = table.Rows[0]["Answer 3"].ToString(); radioButton4.Text = table.Rows[0]["Answer 4"].ToString(); correctAnswer = table.Rows[0]["Correct Answer"].ToString(); ; conGet.Close(); } private void btnSelect_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { String cnString = "Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source=C:\\Users\\Hannah\\Desktop\\QuizQuestions.accdb"; //declare Connection, command and other related objects OleDbConnection conGet = new OleDbConnection(cnString); OleDbCommand cmdGet = new OleDbCommand(); //try { //open connection conGet.Open(); cmdGet.CommandType = CommandType.Text; cmdGet.Connection = conGet; cmdGet.CommandText = "SELECT * FROM QuizQuestions ORDER BY rnd()"; // select all columns in all rows OleDbDataReader reader = cmdGet.ExecuteReader(); reader.Read(); if (radioButton1.Checked) { chosenAnswer = reader["Answer 1"].ToString(); } else if (radioButton2.Checked) { chosenAnswer = reader["Answer 2"].ToString(); } else if (radioButton3.Checked) { chosenAnswer = reader["Answer 3"].ToString(); } else { chosenAnswer = reader["Answer 4"].ToString(); } if (chosenAnswer == reader["Correct Answer"].ToString()) { //chosenCorrectly++; MessageBox.Show("You have got this answer correct"); //label2.Text = "You have got " + chosenCorrectly + " answers correct"; } else { MessageBox.Show("That is not the correct answer"); } } } } } I realise the problem isn't too big but I can't see how my declaration timings are wrong

  • SQL SERVER – How to Compare the Schema of Two Databases with Schema Compare

    - by Pinal Dave
Earlier I wrote about An Efficiency Tool to Compare and Synchronize SQL Server Databases and it was very much well received. Since the blog post I have received quite a many question that just like data how we can also compare schema and synchronize it. If you think about comparing the schema manually, it is almost impossible to do so. Table Schema has been just one of the concept but if you really want the all the schema of the database (triggers, views, stored procedure and everything else) it is just impossible task. If you are developer or database administrator who works in the production environment than you know that there are so many different occasions when we have to compare schema of the database. Before deploying any changes to the production server, I personally like to make note of the every single schema change and document it so in case of any issue , I can always go back and refer my documentation. As discussed earlier it is absolutely impossible to do this task without the help of third party tools. I personally use Devart Schema Compare for this task. This is an extremely easy tool. Let us see how it works. First I have two different databases – a) AdventureWorks2012 and b) AdventureWorks2012-V1. There are total three changes between these databases. Here is the list of the same. One of the table has additional column One of the table have new index One of the stored procedure is changed Now let see how dbForge Schema Compare works in this scenario. First open dbForge Schema Compare studio. Click on New Schema Comparison. It will bring you to following screen where we have to configure the database needed to configure. I have selected AdventureWorks2012 and AdventureWorks-V1 databases. In the next screen we can verify various options but for this demonstration we will keep it as it is. We will not change anything in schema mapping screen as in our case it is not required but generically if you are comparing across schema you may need this. This is the most important screen as on this screen we select which kind of object we want to compare. You can see the options which are available to select. The screen lets you select the objects from SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2012. Once you click on compare in previous screen it will bring you to this screen, which will essentially display the comparative difference between two of the databases which we had selected in earlier screen. As mentioned above there are three different changes in the database and the same has been listed over here. Two of the changes belongs to the tables and one changes belong to the procedure. Let us click each of them one by one to see what is the difference between them. In very first option we can see that there is an additional column in another database which did not exist earlier. In this example we can see that AdventureWorks2012 database have an additional index. Following example is very interesting as in this case, we have changed the definition of the stored procedure and the result pan contains the same. dbForget Schema Compare very effectively identify the changes in schema and lists them neatly to developers. Here is one more screen. This software not only compares the schema but also provides the options to update or drop them as per the choice. I think this is brilliant option. Well, I have been using schema compare for quite a while and have found it very useful. Here are few of the things which dbForge Schema Compare can do for developers and DBAs. Compare and synchronize SQL Server database schemas Compare schemas of live database and SQL Server backup Generate comparison reports in Excel and HTML formats Eliminate mistakes in schema changes propagation across environments Track production database changes and customizations Automate migration of schema changes using command line interface I suggest that you try out dbForge Schema Compare and let me know what you think of this product. • Overview of Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Upgrade Advisor

    - by Akshay Deep Lamba
Problem Like most organizations, we are planning to upgrade our database server from SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2008. I would like to know is there an easy way to know in advance what kind of issues one may encounter when upgrading to a newer version of SQL Server? One way of doing this is to use the Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Upgrade Advisor to plan for upgrades from SQL Server 2000 or SQL Server 2005. In this tip we will take a look at how one can use the SQL Server 2008 Upgrade Advisor to identify potential issues before the upgrade. Solution SQL Server 2008 Upgrade Advisor is a free tool designed by Microsoft to identify potential issues before upgrading your environment to a newer version of SQL Server. Below are prerequisites which need to be installed before installing the Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Upgrade Advisor. Prerequisites for Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Upgrade Advisor .Net Framework 2.0 or a higher version Windows Installer 4.5 or a higher version Windows Server 2003 SP 1 or a higher version, Windows Server 2008, Windows XP SP2 or a higher version, Windows Vista Download SQL Server 2008 Upgrade Advisor You can download SQL Server 2008 Upgrade Advisor from the following link. Once you have successfully installed Upgrade Advisor follow the below steps to see how you can use this tool to identify potential issues before upgrading your environment. 1. Click Start -> Programs -> Microsoft SQL Server 2008 -> SQL Server 2008 Upgrade Advisor. 2. Click Launch Upgrade Advisor Analysis Wizard as highlighted below to open the wizard. 2. On the wizard welcome screen click Next to continue. 3. In SQL Server Components screen, enter the Server Name and click the Detect button to identify components which need to be analyzed and then click Next to continue with the wizard. 4. In Connection Parameters screen choose Instance Name, Authentication and then click Next to continue with the wizard. 5. In SQL Server Parameters wizard screen select the Databases which you want to analysis, trace files if any and SQL batch files if any.  Then click Next to continue with the wizard. 6. In Reporting Services Parameters screen you can specify the Reporting Server Instance name and then click next to continue with the wizard. 7. In Analysis Services Parameters screen you can specify an Analysis Server Instance name and then click Next to continue with the wizard. 8. In Confirm Upgrade Advisor Settings screen you will be able to see a quick summary of the options which you have selected so far. Click Run to start the analysis. 9. In Upgrade Advisor Progress screen you will be able to see the progress of the analysis. Basically, the upgrade advisor runs predefined rules which will help to identify potential issues that can affect your environment once you upgrade your server from a lower version of SQL Server to SQL Server 2008. 10. In the below snippet you can see that Upgrade Advisor has completed the analysis of SQL Server, Analysis Services and Reporting Services. To see the output click the Launch Report button at the bottom of the wizard screen. 11. In View Report screen you can see a summary of issues which can affect you once you upgrade. To learn more about each issue you can expand the issue and read the detailed description as shown in the below snippet.

  • How do I center a UIImageView within a full-screen UIScrollView?

    - by Sebastian Celis
In my application, I would like to present the user with a full-screen photo viewer much like the one used in the Photos app. This is just for a single photo and as such should be quite simple. I just want the user to be able to view this one photo with the ability to zoom and pan. I have most of it working. And, if I do not center my UIImageView, everything behaves perfectly. However, I really want the UIImageView to be centered on the screen when the image is sufficiently zoomed out. I do not want it stuck to the top-left corner of the scroll view. Once I attempt to center this view, my vertical scrollable area appears to be greater than it should be. As such, once I zoom in a little, I am able to scroll about 100 pixels past the top of the image. What am I doing wrong? @interface MyPhotoViewController : UIViewController <UIScrollViewDelegate> { UIImage* photo; UIImageView *imageView; } - (id)initWithPhoto:(UIImage *)aPhoto; @end @implementation MyPhotoViewController - (id)initWithPhoto:(UIImage *)aPhoto { if (self = [super init]) { photo = [aPhoto retain]; // Some 3.0 SDK code here to ensure this view has a full-screen // layout. } return self; } - (void)dealloc { [photo release]; [imageView release]; [super dealloc]; } - (void)loadView { // Set the main view of this UIViewController to be a UIScrollView. UIScrollView *scrollView = [[UIScrollView alloc] init]; [self setView:scrollView]; [scrollView release]; } - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; // Initialize the scroll view. CGSize photoSize = [photo size]; UIScrollView *scrollView = (UIScrollView *)[self view]; [scrollView setDelegate:self]; [scrollView setBackgroundColor:[UIColor blackColor]]; // Create the image view. We push the origin to (0, -44) to ensure // that this view displays behind the navigation bar. imageView = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0.0, -44.0, photoSize.width, photoSize.height)]; [imageView setImage:photo]; [scrollView addSubview:imageView]; // Configure zooming. CGSize screenSize = [[UIScreen mainScreen] bounds].size; CGFloat widthRatio = screenSize.width / photoSize.width; CGFloat heightRatio = screenSize.height / photoSize.height; CGFloat initialZoom = (widthRatio > heightRatio) ? heightRatio : widthRatio; [scrollView setMaximumZoomScale:3.0]; [scrollView setMinimumZoomScale:initialZoom]; [scrollView setZoomScale:initialZoom]; [scrollView setBouncesZoom:YES]; [scrollView setContentSize:CGSizeMake(photoSize.width * initialZoom, photoSize.height * initialZoom)]; // Center the photo. Again we push the center point up by 44 pixels // to account for the translucent navigation bar. CGPoint scrollCenter = [scrollView center]; [imageView setCenter:CGPointMake(scrollCenter.x, scrollCenter.y - 44.0)]; } - (void)viewWillAppear:(BOOL)animated { [super viewWillAppear:animated]; [[[self navigationController] navigationBar] setBarStyle:UIBarStyleBlackTranslucent]; [[UIApplication sharedApplication] setStatusBarStyle:UIStatusBarStyleBlackTranslucent animated:YES]; } - (void)viewWillDisappear:(BOOL)animated { [super viewWillDisappear:animated]; [[[self navigationController] navigationBar] setBarStyle:UIBarStyleDefault]; [[UIApplication sharedApplication] setStatusBarStyle:UIStatusBarStyleDefault animated:YES]; } - (UIView *)viewForZoomingInScrollView:(UIScrollView *)scrollView { return imageView; } @end

  • I'm trying to make lots of the same object appear randomly on the screen subject to conditions and k

    - by Katsideswide
Hi! A good friend recommended this site to me, it looks really useful! I'm a bit of a shameless noob at actionscript and after 3 days of tutorials and advice I've hit a brick wall. I've managed to get a sensor attached to an arduino talking to flash using something called AS3glue. it works, when i set up a trace("leaf") for the contition that the sensor reads 0, i get a printout of the word "leaf". however i want the program to make a graphic appear on the screen when this condition is met, not just trace something. I'm trying to get the program to generate a library object called "Enemy" on the screen at a random position each time the conditions are met. It's called enemy because I was following a game tutorial...actually it's a drawing of a leaf. Here's the bit of the code which is causing me problems: var army:Array; var enemy:Enemy; function AvoiderGame() { army = new Array(); var newEnemy = new Enemy( 100, 100 ); army.push( newEnemy ); addChild( newEnemy ); } function timerEvent(event:Event):void { if (a.getAnalogData(0) ==0 && a.getAnalogData(0) != this.lastposition){ trace("leaf"); var randomX:Number = (Math.random() * 200) + 100; var randomY:Number = (Math.random() * 150) + 50; var newEnemy = new Enemy( randomX, randomY); army.push( newEnemy ); addChild( newEnemy ); } else if (a.getAnalogData(0) == 0) { //don't trace anything } else { //don't trace anything } this.lastposition = a.getAnalogData(0); //afterwards, set the position to be the new lastposition and repeat. } I've imported "import flash.display.MovieClip;" and the code for the Enemy class looks like this: package { import flash.display.MovieClip; public class Enemy extends MovieClip { public function Enemy( startX:Number, startY:Number ) { x = startX; y = startY; } } } Here's my error. I've tried googling, it seems like a pretty general error: TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at as3glue_program_fla::MainTimeline/timerEvent() at flash.utils::Timer/_timerDispatch() at flash.utils::Timer/tick() I've made sure that the "Enemy" object is exported for AS3. I'm going for something like this when it's programmed in AS2: leafCounter = 0; //set the counter to 0 counter.swapDepths(1000); //puts the counter on top of pretty much anything, unless you make more than 1000 leaves! counter.textbox.text = 0; //shows "0" in the text box in the "counter" movie clip this.onMouseDown = function() { //triggers when the mouse is clicked this.attachMovie("Leaf","Leaf"+leafCounter,leafCounter,{_x:Math.random()*Stage.width,_y:Math.random()*Stage.height,_rotation:Math.random()*360}); //adds a leaf to rthe stage with a random position and random rotation leafCounter++; //adds 1 to the leaf counter counter.textbox.text = leafCounter; //shows that number in the text box } I'm sure it must be a simple error, I can get the logic working when it just traces something on the screen but i can't get it to generate an "enemy" Any help or hints would be really useful! I know this is a bit of a ham-fisted job of altering existing code.
