    Question: I want to call a generic function, defined as: Public Shared Function DeserializeFromXML(Of T)(Optional ByRef strFileNameAndPath As String = Nothing) As T Now when I call it, I wanted to do it with any of the variants below: Dim x As New XMLserialization.cConfiguration x = XMLserialization.XMLserializeLDAPconfig.DeserializeFromXML(Of x)() x = XMLserialization.XMLserializeLDAPconfig.DeserializeFromXML(GetType(x))() x = XMLserialization.XMLserializeLDAPconfig.DeserializeFromXML(Of GetType(x))() But it doesn't work. I find it very annoying and unreadable having to type x = XMLserialization.XMLserializeLDAPconfig.DeserializeFromXML(Of XMLserialization.cConfiguration)() Is there a way to call a generic function by getting the type from the instance ?

  • Installshield cannot find Vista Network drive : Recommended solution

    Our installer writes common files, shared betweeen users, to a user-selectable location. However, in Vista (and maybe in win7 too), the installer does not see any network drives or network locations. This is because in Vista, the drive is mapped to the current user, and the installer starts elevated, as administrator. I can't imagine i'm the first to experience this problem, so what's the recommended solution for this ? Just ignore it, and provide your own "Copy database folder to network" method in the software ?

The problem i am facing is : I can install the application using the msi installer files from the shared network folder. But when i copy the installer locally and tried to install it, i get the following error: Error reading file.Please Try again.     I have a project and it needs to access a large amount of proprietary data in ASP.NET. This was done on the Linux/PHP by loading the data in shared memory. I was wondering if trying to use Memory Mapped Files would be the way to go, or if there is a better way with better .NET support. I was thinking of using the Data Cache but not sure of all the pitfalls of size of data being saved in the Cache.

  • Why does Font.registerFont throw an error the second time a swf is loaded?

    I've found an issue (in flash cs5) when using TLFTextfields and fonts shared at runtime, and I wondered if anyone has a solution. Here's the scenario. Fonts.swf: library for fonts (runtime shared DF4) Popup.swf: popup with a TLFTextfield (with text in it) using a font from Fonts.swf Main.swf : the main swf with a button that loads and unloads Popup.swf (using Loader or SafeLoader give the same results) Nice and simple, Run main.swf, click button and the popup appears with the text. Click the button again to remove the popup. All well and good now click the button again and I get the following error. ArgumentError: Error #1508: The value specified for argument font is invalid. at flash.text::Font$/registerFont() at Popup_fla::MainTimeline()[Popup_fla.MainTimeline::MainTimeline:12] I'm presuming it's happening because the font is already registered (checked when clicking before the load). Does anyone know how to get past this?   • quartz: preventing concurrent instances of a job in jobs.xml

    This should be really easy. I'm using Quartz running under Apache Tomcat 6.0.18, and I have a jobs.xml file which sets up my scheduled job that runs every minute. What I would like to do, is if the job is still running when the next trigger time rolls around, I don't want to start a new job, so I can let the old instance complete. Is there a way to specify this in jobs.xml (prevent concurrent instances)? If not, is there a way I can share access to an in-memory singleton within my application's Job implementation (is this through the JobExecutionContext?) so I can handle the concurrency myself? (and detect if a previous instance is running) update: After floundering around in the docs, here's a couple of approaches I am considering, but either don't know how to get them to work, or there are problems. Use StatefulJob. This prevents concurrent access... but I'm not sure what other side-effects would occur if I use it, also I want to avoid the following situation: Suppose trigger times would be every minute, i.e. trigger#0 = at time 0, trigger #1 = 60000msec, #2 = 120000, #3 = 180000, etc. and the trigger#0 at time 0 fires my job which takes 130000msec. With a plain Job, this would execute triggers #1 and #2 while job trigger #0 is still running. With a StatefulJob, this would execute triggers #1 and #2 in order, immediately after #0 finishes at 130000. I don't want that, I want #1 and #2 not to run and the next trigger that runs a job should take place at #3 (180000msec). So I still have to do something else with StatefulJob to get it to work the way I want, so I don't see much of an advantage to using it. Use a TriggerListener to return true from vetoJobExecution(). Although implementing the interface seems straightforward, I have to figure out how to setup one instance of a TriggerListener declaratively. Can't find the docs for the xml file. Use a static shared thread-safe object (e.g. a semaphore or whatever) owned by my class that implements Job. I don't like the idea of using singletons via the static keyword under Tomcat/Quartz, not sure if there are side effects. Also I really don't want them to be true singletons, just something that is associated with a particular job definition. Implement my own Trigger which extends SimpleTrigger and contains shared state that could run its own TriggerListener. Again, I don't know how to setup the XML file to use this trigger rather than the standard <trigger><simple>...</simple></trigger>.

    Is there an application or API for using/accessing Visual SourceSafe (6.0) under Mac OS X? I'm currently using VSS Connect under Parallels for working with our company's ASP.NET site/s. I currently have my Windows drive shared and try to use TextMate on the Mac side to actually edit files.     I'm investigating smart pointers with "shared" functionality for Windows CE and Mobile, where the VS 2008 tr1 std::shared_ptr cannot be used (due to linkage to a v.9 dll not present on CE, obviously, if I understand it correctly). There's a semi-old MSDN Magazine article with sources from a Microsoftie (Eric Niebler): Achieve More Reliable Resource Management with Our Custom C++ Classes. The reasoning, design and implementation of his shared_any looks solid, but I'm wondering if anyone ever actually tested the lot on any platform (not necessarily WinCe/WM)?
