  • fsck on LVM snapshots

    I'm trying to do some file system checks using LVM snapshots of our Logical Volumes to see if any of them have dirty file systems. The problem that I have is that our LVM only has one Volume Group with no available space. I was able to do fsck's on some of the logical volumes using a loopback file system. However my question is, is it possible to create a 200GB loopback file system, and saved it on the same partition/logical volume that I'll be taking a snapshot of? Is LVM smart enough to not take a snapshot copy of the actual snapshot? What does release_pack_memory does and I can't find this functions implementation in the whole source code. What does the #ifdef XMALLOC_POISON memset(ret, 0xA5, size); does? I am planning to reuse this function on my project. Is this a good wrapper around malloc? Any help would be great.

    Hi, I am creating an PriorityQueue with multiple queues. I am using an Array to store the multiple ArrayLists that make up my different PriorityQueues. Here is what I have for my constructor so far: ArrayList<ProcessRecord> pq; ArrayList[] arrayQ; MultiList(){ arrayQ = new ArrayList[9]; pq = new ArrayList<ProcessRecord>(); } The problem comes when I am trying to get the size of the entire array, that is the sum of the sizes of each ArrayList in the array. public int getSize(){ int size = 0; for(int i = 1; i <=9; i++){ size = size + this.arrayQ[i].size(); } return size; } is not seeming to work. Am I declaring the Array of ArrayList correctly? I keep getting an error saying that this.arrayQ[i].size() is not a method. (the .size() being the problem) Thanks for any help! David

    I am having an issue with a program where after 6 mins +- 5 secs we get the above exception. Some more info about the exception stacktrace is below. This all happens pretty religiously, 6 mins goes by and bam the following 3 exeptions. We have the application installed in 2 other environments and it is working fine there. I am hoping to find some server settings either IIS 6 or Server 2003 settings that may be causing this issue to occur. I have reviewed some of the similar questions and don't see very many answers.   • SharePoint Upgrade Global Nav Quirks?

    We're working on a parallel install/upgrade of SharePoint. The client has WSS 2003 on some old hardware. We've installed MOSS 2007 in a medium farm environment. They want to use this as an opportunity to not just upgrade and use the new features, but to also better organize their content and categorize between different site collections. To accommodate, we've created a few site collections per their specifications in the new environment, and when we ran an upgrade test run we ran into a few .. quirks. We made a backup of the old content database, copied it over to the new environment and restored it as a new database. Created a new web app and attached the migrated data to do an in-place upgrade in this new "test" area. This seems pretty standard - no issues. We have to do a little bit of cleanup (e.g. reset pages to site definition, reset themes, and inherit the global nav / top link bar, etc.). Once that's done, we're using stsadm export/import to copy the individual sites over to their ultimate destinations in the various different site collections. So far so good. But then we ran into one particular site that has a link to an .aspx page in the top link bar in WSS 2003 that's not behaving properly after the upgrade. It's just a link to a "dashboard" .aspx page in a doc library - nothing special. It doesn't seem to matter what we do, or what order we do it (in the "test" web app, in the destination web app, or both). In the end, this ONE site will not allow us to create a link/tab in the global nav. It can inherit the global nav just fine. We can break the inheritance just fine. But if we want to manually add a link in the top link bar - we go through the steps that I've done 1,000x before and click OK - and the tab never appears. It doesn't matter if it's to a page within the site itself, or to Google. We can migrate over other sites into the same site collection and add a tab without issue. If we migrate this quirky site over to another site collection we run into the same issue. Yet, in the "test" web app that we're using to upgrade the data we can add a tab? If we add the tab before we export/import to the final destination, the tab is lost during the process? Has anyone run into anything like this? Any ideas? I've tried every combination of everything that I can think of and nothing works. Unless we can figure out how to get this to work, we're going to just add this tab to the global nav for the entire site collection and inherit it for this site (but that adds the link to all of the site that will inherit, which is both a pro & con for them).

    Hi there, I have an algorithm for creating the sieve of Eratosthenes and pulling primes from it. It lets you enter a max value for the sieve and the algorithm gives you the primes below that value and stores these in a c-style array. Problem: Everything works fine with values up to 500.000, however when I enter a large value -while running- it gives me the following error message in xcode: Program received signal: “EXC_BAD_ACCESS”. warning: Unable to restore previously selected frame. Data Formatters temporarily unavailable, will re-try after a 'continue'. (Not safe to call dlopen at this time.) My first idea was that I didn't use large enough variables, but as I am using 'unsigned long long int', this should not be the problem. Also the debugger points me to a point in my code where a point in the array get assigned a value. Therefore I wonder is there a maximum limit to an array? If yes: should I use NSArray instead? If no, then what is causing this error based on this information? EDIT: This is what the code looks like (it's not complete, for it fails at the last line posted).     I have a SSIS package I am trying to schedule. I create a new job under SQL Server Agent. On the Command line tab of the jobstep, I choose "Edit the command-line manually". The changes are retained as I switch from tab to tab within the job step but whenever I exit and save the job, the changes are lost. Any ideas what's going on? I'm on SQL Server 2008.

  • Is there a way to make NoScript always allow .pdf files?

    I'm using Firefox with NoScript to stop the bad stuff. I've also told Acrobat Reader to load .pdf files in it's own window instead of inside the browser (because sometimes it locks up, and then I would have to restart the browser). However, whenever I come across a .pdf file, I always get a new tab completely covered by the NoScript box. Then, I can click anywhere in that page, and NoScript asks me if I'm sure I want to allow it. Then, Acrobat Reader is launched in its own window, but the Firefox tab remains, and I have to close it. It seems like NoScript is getting in the way of Acrobat's attempt to just open the file without making a new tab. Is there a way to tell NoScript to always allow .pdf files (Or any other suggestion to make that annoying blank tab go away by itself)?

    I think I may be having an issue with window scaling (RFC 1323) and am hoping that someone can enlighten me on what's going on.     I want to ask bash how it would complete a string as if I had typed it in a shell and hit tab. For example, if I type ls /[TAB][TAB] I see the list of files and dirs in / that could possibly complete the ls command. How do I ask bash how it would complete 'ls /' without typing it and hitting tab? I want something like: query_complete 'partial command line string' I read the man page for complete and compgen, but couldn't figure out how to do it with them. Note: 'ls /' is not the actual command I'm interested in, just an example. I am looking for a general solution for any arbitrary string representing a partial command line.

    Not to long ago someone told me that long are not 64 bits on 64 bit machines and i should always use int. This did not make sense to me. I seen docs (such as the one on apples official site) say that long are indeed 64 bits when compiling for a 64bit CPU. Alt + Tab - Switches between different apps that are open. Ctrl + Tab - Cycles through the different tabs that are open in the current Window. What I want is something like we have in Visual Studio. Irrespective of how the documents are opened, a Ctrl + Tab always toggles between the last two files opened. Is it possible in IE 8.0?

  • Home screen widget size for large screen or hdpi?

    From Android widget screen guidelines, http://developer.android.com/guide/practices/ui_guidelines/widget_design.html, we know that, home screen has 4*4 cells, and in portrait orientation, each cell is 80 pixels wide by 100 pixels tall. I think these are for baseline HVGA screen. How about for large screens and hdpi screens, do they still have 4*4 cells for widget and each cell in portrait orientation is still 80 pixels * 100 pixels? Thanks.
