• Tfs 2010: how to set up a corporate source server?

  Hi all, I'm looking for guidance in setting up a corporate source server, but when I google this topic the best I can come up with is articles and walkthrough concerned with configuring VS to use microsoft's public symbol servers for use with debugging .NET assemblies. Provided for background info, the environment I'm concerned with using is Vs2010/Tfs2010. Basically, the workflow I'm looking to facilitate is this: 1) customer reports problem with application 2) application of the appropriate version is installed on a virtual machine 3) developer repros bug attaching to process on virtual machine and leveraging source server (symbol server?) on corporate domain. This is the step I'm concerned with. 4) developer pinpoints problem fixes bug in workspace. 5) developer performs a dll swap on VM to test changes? (side topic, not sure on this) 6) normal development/source control workflows. Any advice is welcome! Edit: since writing this, I have stumbled on this article, which is a nice writeup on the configuration of source server for TFS 2008. Has anyone adapted this for Tfs 2010?

  I am starting to learn web-services in java EE6. I did web development before, but never nothing related to web services. All is new to me and the books and the tutorials i find in the web are to technical. I started learning about .xsd schemas and also .xml. In that topic i feel confident, i understand what are the schemas used for and what validation means. Now my next step is learning about JAX-B(Java Api for XML Binding). I rode some about it and i did also some practice in my IDE. But i have lots of basic doubts, that make me stuck and cannot feel confident to continue to the next topic. Ill appreciate a lot if someone could explain me well my doubts: What does it mean mapping and what is a mapping tool? What does it mean binding and what is a binding tool? What does it mean parsing and what is a parsing tool? How is JAX-B related to mapping,binding and parsing? I am seeking for a good answer built by you, not just a copy paste from google(Ive already been online a few hours and only got confused).

• How can I handle arbitrary text as "nouns" in Inform 7?

  In Inform, I'd like to be able to create a new action, and have it be able to work on aribitrary text. I can easily create a new action that will work on existing things. Finding is an action with past participle found, applying to one thing. Understand "Find [something]" as finding. Carry out finding: say "You find [the noun]." But this only works on items that exist within the game world. If I try to "find fdsljk", for instance, it will fail because I haven't created a "fdsljk". I'd like to be able to "find fdsljk" and then be able to grab that extra text and respond with it...something like "You find the fdsljk." I was thinking that something like A foo is a kind of value. Finding is an action with past participle found, applying to one foo. Understand "Find [something]" as finding. Carry out finding: say "You find [the foo]." might be close...but it doesn't work. I get an error that reads: You wrote 'say "You find [the foo]."' , and in particular 'the foo': but this asked to say something of a kind which can't be said, or rather, printed. Although this problem can arise when you use complicated text substitutions which come in variant forms depending on the kinds of value used, far more often what this means is just that you tried to use a substituted value (e.g., in 'say "The dial reads [V]."') of a kind which could not be printed out. For instance, if V is a number or a piece of text, there is no problem: but if V is a parsing topic, say an entry in a 'topic' column of a table, then this problem will arise. The italics are mine, and highlight the key...I think this should be doable, but I'm taking the wrong path. Clues?

• Is it theoretically possible to emulate a human brain on a computer?

  Our brain consists of billions of neurons which basically work with all the incoming data from our senses, handle our consciousness, emotions and creativity as well as our hormone system, etc. So I'm completely new to this topic but doesn't each neuron have a fixed function? E.g.: If a signal of strength x enters, if the last signal was x ms ago, redirect it. From what I've learned in biology about our nerves system which includes our brain because both consist of simple neurons, it seems to me as our brain is one big, complicated computer. Maybe so complicated that things such as intelligence and cognition become possible? As the most complicated things about a neuron pretty much are the chemical aspects on generating an electric singal, keeping itself alive, and eventually segmenting itself, it should be pretty easy emulating some on a computer, or? You won't have to worry about keeping your virtual neuron alive, or? If you can emulate a single neuron on a computer, which shouldn't be too hard, could you theoretically emulate more than 1000 billions of them, recreating intelligence, cognition and maybe even creativity? In my question I'm leaving out the following aspects: Speed of our current (super) computers Actually writing a program for emulating neurons I don't know much about this topic, please tell me if I got anything wrong :) (My secret goal: Make a copy of my brain and store it on some 10 million TB HDD and make someone start it up in the future)

• How to import .ops file in Outlook 2007

  Hi all, I install ORK.exe on my Windows 7 machine to create a copy of my profile so I will have it as a template to push it to new user. So basically, I ran the Profile Wizard to create an .ops file. I saved it in my documents for the moment. Right now, I'm trying to import that file into my Outlook but I just can't figure it out! My goal is to have a profile template to push to new users when they log in for first time. Thanks a bunch in advance! EDIT: I just figured it out. But I have a problem: When I create my profile, Outlook 2007 on exchange was not in cache mode. So I created my profile with the Profile Wizard with cache mode disabled. I save my outlook.ops in My documents. Then, I enabled cache mode so when I will import my .ops file, it should be restore as cache mode disabled... But When I do that, cache mode is still checked (which I don't want to) Am I doing something wrong? I guess so but I just can't figure it out

  I have set up a Microsoft Standalone CA on 2008 R2 as a root CA. I'm trying to setup a subordinate Enterprise CA. I generated the certificate request, and submitted it to the root CA. Then, I ran the following command to set the expiration date to 20 years (the request ID is 5): certutil -setattributes 5 "ValidityPeriod:Years\nValidityPeriodUnits:20" Then, I approved the request, but it failed. The Request Status Code is: The specified time is invalid. 0x8007076d (WIN32: 1901) The Request Disposition Message is: Denied by Policy Module 0x8007076d, The requested validity period is invalid. Confirm that the validity period or expiration data and time specified in the request does not extend beyond the validity period of the CA certificate, the certificate template, and the CA. The validity period of the CA can be verified by running the following commands: certutil -getreg ca\validityPeriod & certutil -getreg ca\ValidityPeriodUnits The validity period of the CA certificate is 40 years (expires in 2052). The template condition doesn't apply since this is a standalone CA. The result of those commands is Years and 1, respectively. It appears that I will need to change the CA's validityPeriod and validityPeriodUnits. But, I want to keep the default expiration for a request at 1 year. Is there a way to set a maximum and default expiration, or am I going to have to change it, issue the certificate, and then change it back?

• Mod Rewrite Help - Pseudo-Subdirectories

  I am dealing with a frustrating problem with Joomla that is going to require some url trickery. The idea is straight-forward but after reading a bunch of guides for mod-rewrite, I still can't seem to get it work. Let's say my site is www.mysite.com. Joomla is already performing some rewriting for SEF urls so I have links like www.mysite.com/home and www.mysite.com/news and so on. I want to be able to have (4) pseudo-subdirectories like www.mysite.com/mode1/ and www.mysite.com/mode2/ and so on. These subdirectories should work as if the subdirectory isn't there, ie both www.mysite.com/mode1/home and www.mysite.com/mode2/home should pull up the same www.mysite.com/home. It should point any www.mysite.com/mode1/anypagehere to www.mysite.com/anypagehere. The reason I am asking for this is because I will be reading the url for mode1, mode2, etc, to modify the template page. There will be a landing page that will direct people to /mode1/ and /mode2/ etc and the template will change based on that. Note, that I don't want to actually pass a parameter to the url accessible by a GET or whatever because Joomla removes it (perhaps because of my current mod_rewrite settings). • Nagios returns "No output returned from plugin" running process

  I have a nagios server and a bunch of nagios clients that i currently monitor. All the clients are setup with the following nrpe configuration. check_users, check_load... metrics are successfully displayed on the nagios interface but check_nginx and check_server_proxy displayed as "Unknown"-(No output returned from plugin). As far as i understood nagios simply runs ps command and looks for either the argument strings or the name of the command to verify whether the service is running.   Ok, we are at a loss here trying to backup a linux box to a backupexec server... we got a backupexec 12.5 server and a "backupexec for windows servers linux agent" (sigh) running on one of our linux boxes. When a backup runs, we get exceptions reported for our symbolic links. it says something like: BACKUP- \\<servername>\[ROOT] File \\<servername>\[ROOT]/<foldername>/<symlink> is in the backup selection list but was not found. Looking at the selection list, the symlink shows as a 1k file on BUE. Tools-Options-Backup has Backup files and directories by following symbolic links/junction points selected. These same checkboxes are selected on the Job Setup-Job Properties-Edit Template-Advanced Additionally, all the checkboxes are checkeced on Tools-Options-Linux, Unix, and Macintosh and on the Job Set-Job Properties-Edit Template-Linux, Unix, and Macintosh. These checkboxes read: "Preserve change time", "Follow local mount points", "Follow remote mount points", "Backup contents of soft-linked directories" and "Lock remote files", but apparently changing those options produce the same result. Any help on how to get BUE to make a proper backup would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  Hi, I know how to canonicalise the case of URLs on incoming request to IIS7.5, in fact, there's a built in rule template to start from. But how about outbound (without changing the code)? • Netcat (nc) traditional package for RHEL 6.x?

  I'm trying to use the Percona Apache Monitoring [Cacti] Template for Memcached. They do indeed warn that you can't use the openbsd version of the package and provide a solution for Ubuntu/Debian users, i.e.: You need nc on the server. Some versions of nc accept different command-line options. You can change the options used by configuring the PHP script. If you don’t want to do this for some reason, then you can install a version of nc that conforms to the expectations coded in the script’s default configuration instead. On Debian/Ubuntu, netcat-openbsd does not work, so you need the netcat-traditional package, and you need to switch to /bin/nc.traditional... Since the RHEL 6.x version indeed comes from openbsd (confirmed by rpm -qi nc) how does one go about getting this installed on RHEL/CentOS? Anyone else running these Percona templates on RHEL/CentOS? What did you do? alien the Debian package? Update 1: FWIW, I tried to use GNU netcat by compiling it from source but it doesn't seem to have the exact options required by the Cacti template either (i.e. there is no analogy for -C or -q1 so it seems) Update 2: I alien[ed] the netcat-traditional_1.10-38_amd64.deb package to make a .tgz and it does produce a binary "nc.traditional" and that version has the -q option but no -C Cheers

• Has anyone used tools like (Chef, Salt, Puppet, CfEngine) to configure a 2008 Win Server with Sql?

  I have been looking into tools to automate the creation of servers. For two different reasons: Production Development machines I love the idea of the immutable server. I have seen the tools demoed and used successfully on *nix boxes running Rails or Lamp etc. Has anyone found a good way to do this in the Microsoft stack? I would like to get in on the fun and create scripts that will install Windows, patch it according to specification, deploy Sql Server create scripts to build out a database and just for fun deploy SharePoint and configure it, and then deploy a SharePoint solution to it. I can get part of the way, install Windows manually, install Sql Server manually, use Powershell to do all the configuration and setup. Install SharePoint and configure part of it, then powershell for the rest of the configuration and deploying a solution. I would love to have the ability to run one script though, or at least one unified process. I can, and have mostly used VM template images and then instantiated them, but the creation of the template is usually a manual step.

• samba joined to AD canot see users when in the security tab on client

  I've got samba joined via kerberos and winbindd to our AD network and user authentication and everything else is working great. However when I try to add users/groups to file permissions it tells me they are not found. All the users groups show up fine with getent so I'm not sure why they are not showing up. • Sudoers file allow sudo on specific file for active directory group

  I have active directory sign in working on an Ubuntu 12.04 box. When the user signs in, I have a script that runs that needs sudo permission (since it modifies the samba config file). How would I specify this in my sudoer's file? I've tried: %DOMAIN\\AD+Programmers ALL=NOPASSWD: /usr/local/bin/createSambaShare.php I've found various resources on the internet stating that this is how it would be done, but I'm not sure that I have the first part right. What are they using as the DOMAIN? The workgroup or the realm? I use Samba + winbind for active directory integration. • SharePoint 2010 Enterprise wiki - [New page] missing

  I am trying to ramp up knowledge on SharePoint deployment and usage (never did before), due to a direction to use SharePoint 2010 as a repository platform (wiki format) for our customer's infrastructure documentation. In my test virtual server, a new site of Enterprise wiki template was setup. Went into Site Actions Manage Site Features to activate Wiki Page Home Page. The default sub-web then went from /Pages to /SitePages and looks like the default Team template. The odd thing is the Site Actions is missing the New Page option. My colleague does not understand why this is the case, as it ought to be there. The original /Pages sub-web does have the option. What conditions are in play that influences the appearance of that option? UPDATE Another phenomenon observed is in the Site Actions View All Site Content view, the wiki document libraries listed in the grid will have their hyperlink (e.g. "Site Pages") lead straight to the direct default page. It would not show its own table listing of pages under that document library, unlike the original Pages document library, which expectedly show up as a listing. I wonder if this hints to any problems.

• Virtualmin: Automatically create SSL based website with a shared SSL wildcard cert?

  I managed to configure this very nicely under cPanel/WHM, but I am having trouble configuring it under Virtualmin: when I create a new Virtual Server in Virtualmin, I want it to automatically create an Apache with a subdomain of a shared wildcard SSL domain. So for example, if I create a virtual server for some.example.com, I want two VirtualHosts: <VirtualHost 1.2.3.4:80> ServerName some.example.com ServerAlias www.some.example.com some_example.shared-ssl-domain.com ... </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost 1.2.3.4:443> ServerName some_example.shared-ssl-domain.com ... SSLEngine on SSLCertificateFile /path/to/shared-ssl-domain.com.crt SSLCertificateKeyFile //path/to/shared-ssl-domain.com.key SSLCACertificateFile /path/to/shared-ssl-domain.com.cabundle </VirtualHost> in cPanel/WHM I was able to do this easily because the template file contained the <VirtualHost> and </VirtualHost> directives. But Virtualmin's template does now. is there any way I can set up Virtualmin to do what I want?

More information about this error may be available in the server error log. Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. Any ideas on how to solve this? I have tried switching from subdomain to my normal path, still get errors.

• Euro character messed up during FTP transfer

  My customer is using a very outdated ecommerce management system on my hosting service. For that product, no support is being provided anymore by the vendor. Brief explanation: the shop website, that claims to run under LAMP stack, is built by an old Visual Basic Windows application running on MS Access. The user constructs the shop, defines the HTML template, adds products and categories, etc. Then the VB exe builds the PHP pages (one for each template page) and the SQL script to run on MySQL. It also uploads everything via FTP and runs the installation/upgrade script on its own. The problem Browsing the website, many products' descriptions are cut before the euro sign. For example, what was supposed to be "Product price €1000" becomes "Product price" The analysis MySQL contains a cutted description until the € sign, so it's not PHP fault The Access databases contain full description with € sign, so it's not fault of the webmaster writing bad description or eDisplay cutting them The SQL that will run once the site gets uploaded, stored on my local machine before upload, contains the € sign The same script, after being FTPed by eDisplay and opened with nano from SSH, shows the € sign messed up like this: ^À vsftpd log reports (obfuscated for privacy) Sat Dec 15 11:16:57 2012 22 xxx.xxx.128.13 1112727 /srv/www/domains/xxxxxx.it/htdocs/db.sql b _ i r xxxxxxx ftp 0 * c which seems to be a binary transfer (and also a huge security vulnerability because you can download the whole database from unauthenticated HTTP) The eDisplay internal FTP client provides no option for ascii/binary transfer modes [Add] Trying to manually upload the SQL file via SFTP shows messing up euro [Add2] Trying to manually upload using Xftp client with explicit ASCII mode doesn't fix too It looks like the file gets uploaded as binary. Perhaps on the customer's previous host it all worked fine because that was a Windows host. The server It's an Azure virtual machine running openSUSE 12.2 with both vsftpd and openSSH The question Without asking the customer to manually upload files using FileZilla or replacing € with &euro;, because he refuses, what can I do on server side to prevent vsftpd to screw up euro sign?

  I have problems with apache on MAC OS Lion 10.7.5. I have VirtualHosts: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName devel.dev DocumentRoot /var/www </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName test.dev DocumentRoot /var/www <Directory "/var/www"> Options Indexes FollowSymLinks AllowOverride All Order allow,deny Allow from all </Directory> </VirtualHost> I have configured httpd.conf to ServerRoot = /usr/htdocs (empty directory). test.dev and devel.dev says always "It works!". Why ? In /var/www I have index.php which contains only one letter "k" (for tests). Edit, more info: I have restart apache milion times.
