• OS X Can't Access Netatalk Shares

  In my home network, I have a server running Ubuntu 10.4, configured to share files to my MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard (10.6.8) with Netatalk and Avahi. It was working like a charm until one day it stopped working. I can see my server in Finder, I can enter a username and password, and it seems to accept it all, but Finder gets stuck "Connecting" until it times out. I've checked the afpd.conf and AppleVolumes.default. They are all intact. My guess is that an update broke something, but I don't know how to troubleshoot it further. Any suggestions?

• Can't access certain specific IP/domain on Windows 7

  Been banging my head on the wall for some time now. I have a fresh install of Windows 7 - Ultimate ~x86. Some IPs can't resolve properly, it doesn't matter if I try using Firefox, Chrome or IE I end up with a domain not found (server not found, etc.) I am behind a router, all the other computers aren't affected only this Win 7 machine. It's only certain sites. e.g. xkcd.com, facebook's cdn, google group. Things I have tried: flushdns ipconfig renew Disable IP v6 on the NIC Double checked that the computer was in the right timezone @ the right time. Reinstall the NIC driver. Again 90% of the sites will work but not the major one :P help!!!

• Random access gzip stream

  I'd like to be able to do random access into a gzipped file. I can afford to do some preprocessing on it (say, build some kind of index), provided that the result of the preprocessing is much smaller than the file itself. Any advice? My thoughts were: Hack on an existing gzip implementation and serialize its decompressor state every, say, 1 megabyte of compressed data. Then to do random access, deserialize the decompressor state and read from the megabyte boundary. This seems hard, especially since I'm working with Java and I couldn't find a pure-java gzip implementation :( Re-compress the file in chunks of 1Mb and do same as above. This has the disadvantage of doubling the required disk space. Write a simple parser of the gzip format that doesn't do any decompressing and only detects and indexes block boundaries (if there even are any blocks: I haven't yet read the gzip format description)

• Apache can't access /assets directory (OS X 10.6 Snow Leaopard)

  I know this will turn out to be something really stoopid, but I can't find it. Everything was great until I upgraded to OS X 10.6.2 (Snow Leopard) and the supplied Apache 2.2.13. I've replaced all the httpd conf files with my own that were previously working just fine. Everything is great except for one thing: Apache returns a 404 error for any requests to /assets/*. If I rename the directory from 'assets' to anything else, it works fine. I'm going crazy trying to find out why it's sensitive to the string 'assets'. I have no .htaccess files. All permissions have been checked. I've scoured all conf files (including vhosts) for what might cause this and haven't found it. Is there any reason why Apache would treat 'assets' different from anything else? Is there anywhere to check other than conf and .htaccess files?

• Mercurial clone operation works, but I don't have write access

  Somewhere I did something silly. I was deploying my Rails app via cloning the Mercurial repo down onto my Ubuntu server. It worked the first time, and then...well, I made a small change on my dev machine, pushed the changes to the repo, and then deleted the copy on the Ubuntu server and re-cloned from the repo. The clone operation (the second, and third, and 'n' times) works without error, but I don't have write access to the files that were cloned. When I try to startup my mongrel - it can't create the /tmp folder, and because of no write access, fails to start the Rails app.

  We have a mercurial repository (the stable branch) on a mapped network drive (windows). I want to know what happens if more than one user attempts to push at the same time. Or if someone pulls while another is halfway through a push. Is the mercurial client notified by the OS that the file is in use by another process and bails? Is there a risk that I could corrupt the repository with this setup?

  First of all after much pain i figured out how to make it work in Apache 2.4 windowz. Here is my configuration that seems to work successfully for git clone and push and everything. Problem First of all my configuration works. There is a "Require all denied" at / directory. I want only git functionality and nothing else.   How to access block level storage via the kernel (w/o using scsi libraries)? My intent is to implement a block level storage protocol over network for learning purpose, almost the same way SCSI works. Requests will be generated by initiator and sent to target (both userspace program) which makes call to kernel module and returns the data using TCP protocol to initiator. So far, I have managed to build a simple "Hello" module and run it (I am new at kernel programming), but unable to proceed with block access. After searching a lot, I found struct buffer_head * bread(int dev,int block) in linux/fs.h, but the compiler throws error. error: implicit declaration of function ‘bread’ Please help, also feel free to advice on starting with kernel programming.   Can app scripts access the current selection in a gmail message? I frequently compose messages that include engineering calculations and make use of the Google Calc feature do the calculation or convert to the desired units, e.g. 4000 Btu/hr * 8 hrs in kWh It would be really convenient to be able to select the above, hit a mapped key (e.g. Ctrl-K) and have the inserted after the expression 4000 Btu/hr * 8 hrs in kWh = 0.9378 kWh instead of having to paste the expression into a search box and then copy and paste the answer. I could certainly write a solution using a keymapper and a small python script to grab the current selection, send it to the gcalc api, etc ..., but my real motivation is to get familiar with Apps Scripts's capabilities and limitations. I suppose the uber-question here is "what kinds of user actions and state information can App Script access in Gmail messages (and/or Google docs) that are being edited?"

  HI, I've created volumes in equallogic in PS 6000 XV(having 2 member which is in 1 pool), checked & those volumes can be easily detected my ISCSI software in windows. But the problem with ESX , not able to see the assigned disk on ESX server, I can explain what I've done: 1.Created Cluster with enabled HA & DRS 2.Added 3 ESX4 HOST 3.Added VMkernel & configured in all 3 ESX4, enabled vmotion & FT on the same adapter. 4.went to iSCSI storage adapter properties, enabled iSCSI 5.Trying to discover the available storage with the controller IP on dynamic discovery, but not able to see the assigned storage Note: the same volume is accessed to windows that means there is no issue from storage , am I right ????   Hello! Couple of questions regarding Twill and Mechanize: 1) Is Twill still relevant as a web-automation tool? If yes, then why is not currently maintained? If no, has Mechanize matured further to support Twill-style simple scripting? Or is there another package that has stepped up to fill the gap? 2) I was able to very quickly setup a couple of test suites in python using Twill, but I'm a little confused on how to access the information that Twill spits out in my python program. That is, I can do showforms() and see the form values neatly listed and I can use fv to update the form values and submit. But how do I access one of those form values as a python var? • Outpost Firewall asks every time one specific application tries to access to network

  One of installed applications on my PC tries to send UDP packed. Outpost warns me about this. I say that Outpost should allow all activity for this application. But next time application wants to send UDP packed Outpost asks me again and again the same question. There is no problems with other applications but with this only. • Network access to VM only from host ...

  I'm trying to do some testing of Ubuntu 10.04 Beta 2 Server in a VMWare environment. The host is XP, and the VM software is VMPlayer. Problem is, I want to be able to see the VM from the network, not just from the host. I can SSH into the VM from the host, but from any other machine on the network I can't even get the VM to respond to a ping. Going the other way (from the VM out) isn't a problem at all. The VM software did an 'easy installer' so I'm not really sure what was going on with the networking. Suggestions?

• Restoring from .wim image without access to Windows DVD

  I'm attempting to fix a friend's computer. It will not boot to anything Windows-related (see my earlier question for more information). I was able to boot into Peppermint OS to back up her files and grab the HP OEM image (.wim) so that I can restore from it (OEM W7 key, so I can't just do a W7 reinstall). However, I cannot figure out what the heck I need to do to be able to actually restore her computer to that image. I tried using these instructions on TechNet to create a WinPE flash drive, but those instructions don't actually make the flash drive bootable, so that option didn't work (the partition is labeled as active, but when trying to boot from it I get the message "Remove disks or other media. Press any key to restart."). All of the other instructions that I found require that I get into WinRE or boot from an install disk, which I cannot do. Any suggestions as to how I can apply this .wim boot image?

However, when moved to production, it works for excel 97-2003 files, but when I try to read 2007 files I receive the following error: Access to the path 'C:\Documents and Settings\PORTALS03\ASPNET\LOCALS~1\Temp\TMP_Z129388041687919815' is denied. How is it possible that the 97-2003 excel file can be read but the 2007 files throw access is denied?

• Citrix Access Gateway not redirecting to login URL

  We have an older setup for XenApp - users log in through Citrix Secure Gateway running on a windows box. (We hope to start using a NetScaler soon.) Earlier today, connections to https://citrix.company.com/ starting throwing up a 503 error page, instead of redirecting to https://citrix.company.com/Citrix/XenApp/ If you go directly to the /Citrix/Xenapp/ URL, the user is properly directed to the login page, and can launch apps. We've restarted the service, and rebooted the server. We haven't yet tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software. Before we do this, I'm looking for ideas as to how we can get the redirect working again without a fairly major outage window. To make things more interesting, many of our users have Citrix Receiver installed, also pointed at https://citrix.company.com/. Receiver makes itself the default launcher for ICA files, and gives a connection error when it tries to load apps - probably because of the same non-functional rediect?

  I have a number of public custom Google Maps created via http://maps.google.com/ - obviously associated with my google account. Can I access these maps via the Google Maps javascript api? The api doesn't appear to work with the manually created maps located on maps.google.com from what I can tell? And if not, is there another way to store overlay data (markers, etc) that the javascript api can grab and load into the map on the client's browser? Am thinking a service like dabbleDB, except that I don't think they offer write access via javascript (this would be necessary for the user adding markers to the map, for example) Obviously I could create a db layer on my server, but am looking for a 'cloud' solution that removes the strain from my databases!!

  I got a simple cloud server and thought it would be nice to have mac native afp Volumes accesss. Installed Netatalk and this seems to work pretty nice. No sensitive data or something but I don't like to wake up someday and have my www docs rm-rfed by some kid h4x0r. Q1: Is afp encrypted? Q2: How can I make it (semi)secure? Q3: Does VPN makes sense for this? Q4: What would you do to get afp working over net? Opening any service meant for Lan only is a basic flaw, i know - but me be ignorant about it. According to Apple Dev only the authentication is encrypted or am I mssing something?

• Exceptions and Access Violations in Paint events in Windows

  After executing some new code, my C++ application started to behave strange (incorrect or incomplete screen updates, sometimes no screen updates at all). After a while we found out that the new code is causing an Access Violation. Strange enough, the application simply keeps on running (but with the incorrect screen updates). At first we thought the problem was caused by a "try-catch(...)" construction (put there by an overactive ex-colleague), but several hours later (carefully inspecting the call stacks, adding many breakpoints, ...) we found out that if there's an Access Violation in a paint event, Windows catches it, and simply continues running the application. Is this normal behavior? Is it normal that Windows catches exceptions/errors during a paint event? Is there a way to disable this? (if not, it would mean that we have to always run in the debugger with all exceptions enabled while testing our code). Patrick

  Recently i have some problems accessing websites. When i try to access it says This webpage is not available. I tried accessing the site through FireFox, Internet Explorer and Chrome. I also tried with using a web proxy but still the same problem. This problem is only in my Desktop PC, all the websites works fine in my laptop Currently i cant access, yahoo.com download.com bing.com proxy.org daniweb.com aol.com and many forums I check with the host file but nothing is blocked in that.
