  • Resetting default Input Method in Mac OS 10.6

    I'm a Dvorak guy. I recently installed a new machine at the inlaws who are not Dvorak people. I stupidly selected Dvorak as my Input Method of choice while installing OS X. Now, all of the users I created default to Dvorak and need to go through the manual process of removing Dvorak as their Input Method of choice and instead choosing U.S. I have no idea how far reaching the implications might be. Could be that any time another user is added they will default to Dvorak. Right now, I'd like to set the default back to U.S. How can I do that? Behaviors I'm looking for include that when the Input Menu is not shown at the Login Screen, U.S. is the keyboard layout. Any future users created should default to U.S. with no Input Menu in the menu bar. Any users created already should have their default layout be U.S. Thanks in advance!

  • Xmodmap: six characters to one key and two layouts?

    I know how to have six symbols on one key thanks to this question: Xmodmap: Six characters to one key? However, when I have two layouts and switch them, weird things happen. I have the following (well, different, but this is easier to talk about) line in my xmodmap: keycode 31 = a A b B c C When I log in, everything works as you would expect. Pressing key 31 give a, with Shift A, with AltGr c and C respectively and with ISO_Level3_Shift. However, when I change the layout, key 31 gives me b and B with shift and c and C with AltGr. This is on Ubuntu 11.10 under Ubuntu. Does anybody undestand what is happening? Could I restrict xmodmap to just one layout?

  • Cancelling WPF Application.Shutdown

    Today I spent the better part of an hour trying to figure out what I had had done wrong. I had an application that when the user click’s “exit”, it should prompt if they want to save the last unsaved file, or cancel the exit. If the select cancel it should not exit the application. Everything seemed fine in my code, all I was doing was calling Application.Current.Shutdown(); And then capturing the Closing event and setting cancel to true.. (see SO question here) Long story short, If should not have been calling Application.Current.Shutdown() but rather Application.Current.MainWindow.Close(). grrrr… <I must read documentation properly>

  • C# WPF to Embedded programming transition

    I've been learning C# .NET Framework for around 4-6 months (still starting) using some books, and have currently made my way up to Collections and Generics. I'll probably spend the next two months covering the rest up to LINQ and/or Garbage Collections. The thing is, I started to get interested in embedded systems and found out that you can use C# to code it through .NET MF, which mean I wouldn't have to learn C or C++. So, I would like to know if the knowledge I'll have by that time (2 months) will be enough to start working on Embedded (using C# .NET Micro Framework and Netduino) or I should probably see more about plain C# like Multithreading, async and other advanced features ? I want use embedded just as a hobby, at least by now, as I'll still have a long way through university. Although, I'll probably pick it as a career then. Thanks in advance!

  • Scale background image to wrap content of layout

    I have a layout that contains some text fields and has a background image that's displayed at the top of my activity. I'd like the background image to scale to wrap the content (don't care about aspect ratio). However, the image is larger than content, so the layout instead wraps the background image. Here's my original code: <RelativeLayout android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:id="@+id/HeaderList" android:layout_gravity="top" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:background="@drawable/header"> <TextView android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:id="@+id/NameText" android:text="Jhn Doe" android:textColor="#FFFFFF" android:textSize="30sp" android:layout_alignParentLeft="true" android:layout_alignParentTop="true" android:paddingLeft="4dp" android:paddingTop="4dp" /> <TextView android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:textColor="#FFFFFF" android:layout_alignParentLeft="true" android:id="@+id/HoursText" android:text="170 hours" android:textSize="23sp" android:layout_below="@+id/NameText" android:paddingLeft="4dp" /> </RelativeLayout> After searching through some other questions, I found these two: How to wrap content views rather than background drawable? Scale a Drawable or background image? Based on this, I created a FrameLayout w/ an ImageView showing the background. Unfortunately, I still can't get it to work. I want the height of the background image to shrink/expand w/ the size of the text views, but with the FrameLayout, the ImageView fits to the size of it's parent, and I can't find a way to make the parent fit to the size the text view layout. Here's my updated code: <FrameLayout android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" > <ImageView android:src="@drawable/header" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:scaleType="fitXY" android:layout_height="fill_parent" /> <RelativeLayout android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:id="@+id/HeaderList" android:layout_gravity="top" android:layout_height="wrap_content" > <TextView android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:id="@+id/NameText" android:text="John Doe" android:textColor="#FFFFFF" android:textSize="30sp" android:layout_alignParentLeft="true" android:layout_alignParentTop="true" android:paddingLeft="4dp" android:paddingTop="4dp" /> <TextView android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:textColor="#FFFFFF" android:layout_alignParentLeft="true" android:id="@+id/HoursText" android:text="170 hours" android:textSize="23sp" android:layout_below="@+id/NameText" android:paddingLeft="4dp" /> </RelativeLayout> </FrameLayout> Does anybody have any suggestions for how best to make an image scale to the size of the contents of some layout? I'm not concerned with the aspect ratio of the image, as it won't matter, I just want it to fill the background. Thanks!
