• how can i substitute a NULL value for a 0 in an SQL Query result

What i would like to do is place a value of 0 (Zero) instead of NULL. I want to do this because i have a calculated column in the same query whose formular depends on the LeaveDays returned and when LeaveDays is NULL, the formular some how fails. Is there away i can put 0 for NULL such that that i can get my desired result.

  Hi All, I am biulding a client-server application where I have to implement a keepalive mechanism in order to detect that the client has crashed or not. I have separate threads on both client and server side. the client thread sends a "ping" then sleeps for 3 seconds, while the server reads the BufferedInput Stream and checks whether ping is received, if so it makes the ping counter eqauls zero, else it increments the counter by +1, the server thread then sleeps for 3 seconds, if the ping counter reaches 3, it daclares the client as dead. The problem is that when the server reads the input stream, its a blocking call, and it blocks untill the next ping is received, irrespective of how delayed it is, so the server never detects a missed ping. any suggestions, so that I can read the current value of the stream and it doesn't block if there is nothing on the incoming stream. • Random select is not always returning a single row.

  The intention of following (simplified) code fragment is to return one random row. Unfortunatly, when we run this fragment in the query analyzer, it returns between zero and three results. As our input table consists of exactly 5 rows with unique ID's and as we perform a select on this table where ID equals a random number, we are stumped that there would ever be more than one row returned. Note: among other things, we already tried casting the checksum result to an integer with no avail.   Hi, I have a db with two tables like these below, page table pg_id title 1 a 2 b 3 c 4 d tagged table tagged_id pg_id 1 1 2 4 I want to select the pages which are tagged, I tried with this query below but doesn't work, SELECT * FROM root_pages LEFT JOIN root_tagged ON ( root_tagged.pg_id = root_pages.pg_id ) WHERE root_pages.pg_id != root_tagged.pg_id It returns zero - Showing rows 0 - 1 (2 total, Query took 0.0021 sec) But I want it to return pg_id title 2 b 3 c My query must have been wrong?? • When is porting data from MySQL to CouchDB NOT advisable? Seeking cautionary tales

  I've dabbled in CouchDB and I have pretty good MySQL experience. I've also created one production application that uses both. I like MySQL but I've run into scaling/concurrency issues with MySQL that CouchDB advertises itself as a general solution for. The problem is that I have MySQL based applications that are pretty huge, and I don't really know whether it would be a good idea or not to try to port them over to a CouchDB datastore. I don't want to put in a lot of time and effort only to find out that my application is really not a good fit for CouchDB. Is there any sort of informed consensus on when porting a MySQL based app to CouchDB is NOT advisable? Any cautionary tales? I think CouchDB is really cool and want to use it more. I'd also like to know ahead of time what specific types of data querying scenarios CouchDB is really not good for, or if CouchDB can really replace MySQL for all the applications I create going forward.

Once using recur: (defn power [a n] (let [multiply (fn [x factor i] (if (zero? i) x (recur (* x factor) factor (dec i))))] (multiply a a (dec n)))) And once with lazy-seq: (defn power [a n] (letfn [(multiply [a factor] (lazy-seq (cons a (multiply (* a factor) factor))))] (nth (multiply a a) (dec n)))) Which implementation do you think is superior? I truly have no idea.. (I'd use recur because it's easier to understand.) I read that lazy-seq is fast because is uses internal caching. But I don't see any opportunities for caching in my sample. Am I overlooking something?

• What would be the simplest way to deal with a text file using JSP?

  First and foremost I should acknowledge that I have no experience at all using Java ServerPages, but I'm positive about achieving this task if you guys help me out a bit since it doesn't seem like something difficult for a seasoned JSP programmer. Anyway the thing is, there's an actual running JSP application within a *NIX box which I somewhat administer with kind of good permissions. The idea is to create a new but dead simple JSP page to control some Korn Shell scripts I've got running there. So the goal is to make some sort of HTML form that will be writing some kind of scriptStatus.on / scriptStatus.off file: #!usr/bin/ksh # coolScript.sh # This is my cool script that is being launched by cron every 10 minutes. if [ -e scriptStatus.off ] then # monitor disabled else # monitor enabled fi which then can be checked for existence within the running script, therefore allowing to easily activate / deactivate it without actually have do deal with cron. Please let me know if all this does make any sense and don't hesitate to ask as much questions as needed. Thanks much in advance!

• C/C++ memory usage API in Linux/Windows

  I'd like to obtain memory usage information for both per process and system wide. In Windows, it's pretty easy. GetProcessMemoryInfo and GlobalMemoryStatusEx do these jobs greatly and very easily. For example, GetProcessMemoryInfo gives "PeakWorkingSetSize" of the given process. GlobalMemoryStatusEx returns system wide available memory. However, I need to do it on Linux. I'm trying to find Linux system APIs that are equivalent GetProcessMemoryInfo and GlobalMemoryStatusEx. I found 'getrusage'. However, max 'ru_maxrss' (resident set size) in struct rusage is just zero, which is not implemented. Also, I have no idea to get system-wide free memory. Current workaround for it, I'm using "system("ps -p %my_pid -o vsz,rsz");". Manually logging to the file. But, it's dirty and not convenient to process the data. I'd like to know some fancy Linux APIs for this purpose.

• Length of an HTMLObjectCollection is incorrect in Internet Explorer

  I have three cells in different rows in a table having same name.e.g. <td name = "x"> is present in 3 different rows. I am using document.getElementsByName() to obtain a collection of these cells and trying to calculate the length of this collection. e.g. var obj = doucment.getElementsByName("X"); var length = obj.length; This code works fine in Google Chrome but in IE the length is return as 0(zero). Can anyone tell me how to sove this problem in IE?

• imap_open dies when being called

  Hi, I've got the following code: The script dies. I get zero responds, nothing from apache, no "foo" or "bar", nothing. I can however connect to the imap server (nc localhost ...), I can also put the script on another server and connect to the same imap server. So, I think there's something wrong with the php on this server. But I can't figure out what I'm missing, forgetting or didn't install. phpinfo() tells me php is configured --with-imap and --with-imap-ssl. The OS is CentOS, btw.

  The validations I know of are: Checksum the whole card number should add up to zero. (range is 0-9) Check the first digit(s) against the card type Check the length against the card type Check the CCV length against the card type (I think all the major types are 3 anyway) Of course make sure it is accepted card type as well as non expired. Are there any other validations :) (I expect many folks did not know about all of these) The reason I ask is because I overheard there was one to checksum number against expiration or CCV.. I just wanted to check.

  I have the following statement in a Stored Procedure: DECLARE @Count INT EXEC @Count = GetItemCount 123 SELECT @Count Which calls another stored procedure with the following statement inside: SELECT COUNT(Item) FROM tblItem WHERE ID = @ID However when I test the call the EXEC outputs the value correctly but it is not assigned to the @Count Variable correctly. I've seen examples or stored procedures used like this, including here but none had a parameter and a return value used (that I could find). The ID Parameter is passed into the second statement which returns a count value used by the first StoredProcedure - all the info I have read seems to indicate this should work - but it doesn't the @Count value is aways zero, even when the GetItemCount returns always the correct value. This is in Microsoft SQL Server 2008 if that helps.

  Hey everyone This is a real newbie question. I have simple app that selects a picture and display's that picture in a PictureBox. I decided to mess with the Opacity Attribute so I added a timer and created this cool effect where the Main Form's Opacity is increased by 20% every 400 miliseconds. The problem is that now when I click the button that invokes the Select File Dialog Box I'm getting a NullReferenceException error. private void tmrClock_Tick(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (ViewerForm.ActiveForm.Opacity != 1) { ActiveForm.Opacity = ActiveForm.Opacity + .20; } } The error message is pointing to the if statement. Does anyone know how I can get the optional arguments to "resolve" correctly? • Is there a standardized (Meta?) Tag for the Date of a Website?

  One thing that search engines really suck with is the date when a website was created. You know the problem: You search for some CSS or JavaScript problem and Google returns a ton of results from 2002 explaining how to fix the problem in IE 5.5 and Netscape 4.6 while the helpful articles are buried on Page 3. There is only one use for Page 3, and meaningful search results are not it. Anyway, I just wonder if there is a standardized or at least generally accepted tag or meta tag that I can put on my own pages to indicate the date they were created? Not that it helps filtering out the old crap out of search results (especially since the people at #1 with their 2002 articles have zero incentive to change), but I'd just like to do my part :P

Consider: delete p+1; delete f(x); Here, the implementation of delete does not have a pointer to which it can assign zero. Adding a number to a pointer shifts it forward in memory by those many number of sizeof(*p) units. So, what is the difference between delete p and delete p+1, and why would making the pointer 0 only be a problem with delete p+1?

For example, the first line would need to store "1 a" in register zero. How can I parse out the number at the line beginning and then store the rest as a string? I have setup storage using a class that is called using mem.set(int, string);. int is the memory location at the beginning of the line and string is the stored instruction.

When you click on one - the others go grey and the one clicked remains color. That's cool, but now I need the text 1st: Sun for example to display and hide along with its graphic button.   Hello, I am looking for a way to get words out of a sentence. I am pretty far with the following expression: \b([a-zA-Z]+?)\b but there are some occurrences that it counts a word when I want it not to. E.g a word followed by more than one period like "text..". So, in my regex I want to have the period to be at the end of a word zero or one time. Inserting .? did not do the trick, and variations on this have not yielded anything fruitful either. Hope someone can help!

  I have XMLs(or Objects) that represents data at some point in a business process. I would like to be able to see what has changed between step1 and step5(two versions of the same XML or Object). Id like to implement this like diff function in version control system. how to do it in web app? P.S. I dont want to just store those files in VCS and than make it do the diff. However if I could somehow emulate VCS without having one that would be cool. P.S. I know there are some JS frameworks that offer diff functionality, but the XML could have 10MB, so I think it should be dont at server side.

  Hi, everyone Please take a look at this piece of code. I'm allocating one byte for the first variable and another byte for the second one. However, it seems like the compiler allocates more (or I'm missing something). I can get it to find if a number is even or not recursively (call function and subtract 2, base case zero), but I am having a hard time following this template, based on how the isEven function is called in the main function.
