    I am using a raid 5 system for my ubuntu 12.04 xmbc media server with 5 disks. Since the data isn't changing a lot and a total loss wouldn't be so bad, cause I have another backup anyway I am thinking about using SnapRAID It sais: SnapRAID is mainly targeted for a home media center, where you have a lot of big files that rarely change The main advantage for me would be power-saving, cause not all disks have to run all the time. Would you recomment using this? (with a regular resync script once a day)

How does, for example, four 320x240 cameras fare against a single 640x480 camera? I'm not well versed in the architecture of the USB interface, what are the performance caveats? I used to have a SurfBoard, and the curl command: curl http://192.168.100.1/reset.htm?reset_modem=Restart%20Cable%20Modem Would reset the modem. Sure, I can go power cycle it manually, but it's in the basement and I'm lazy :-). I did find out the URL to elevate the access permission, but nothing about rebooting/resetting yet.

    I have a list of files I need to copy on a Linux system - each file ranges from 10 to 100GB in size. I only want to copy to the local filesystem. Is there a way to do this in parallel - with multiple processes each responsible for copying a file - in a simple manner? I can easily write a multithreaded program to do this, but I'm interested in finding out if there's a low level Linux method for doing this.

    Every night when I leave work, I lock the screen via ubuntu's "power" button in the top right hand panel. When I come to work in the morning, I'm greeted with the log-in screen.     We are doing embedded device and due to low memory contraints and closed enviroment best option there would be using one of TLS-PSK ChiperSuites (pre shared key - no asymetric cryptography). As far as I see there is no TLS-PSK support in Schannel http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa374757%28VS.85%29.aspx but is there any way to use TLS-PSK on IIS?

  • How to rate-limit in nginx, but including/excluding certain IP addresses?

    I'm able to use limit_req to rate-limit all requests to my server. However I'd like to remove the rate restriction for certain IP addresses (i.e. whitelist) and use a different rate restriction for certain others (i.e. certain IPs I'd like as low as 1r/s). I tried using conditionals (e.g. if ( $remote_addr = "1.2.3.4" ) {}) but that seems to work only with rewrite rules, not for rate-limit rules.

    Hi, If I am not mistaken, SQL server cannot be automatically updated via the regular windows backup routine. Instead, there are cummulative updates that need to be installed by hand. I assume this is done for security and stability reasons. Is this correct? If so, how can I keep track of new updates without regularly reading SQL server related blogs? Is there any low-volume newsletter I can subscribe (ideally only announcing critical updates)?

  • Windows 7 does not wake up from sleep

    I upgraded my Vista Ultimate to Windows 7 Ultimate (RTM) and after that it doesn't wake up from sleep. When I power it on it turns on but nothing happens, but if I press the reset button it boots and then wakes up, I mean, it doesn't reboot Win 7, it actually wakes up. Anyone have any clue about such a weird behaviour? It always worked fine on Vista. I have a GForce 8600 with the latest drivers.

One of the datapoints I'm monitoring is a voltage status MIB which alerts if any of the internal voltages becomes too high or low - with the thresholds being set, presumably, by Sun at the time of manufacture. These trigger with surprising frequency - is this anything to worry about?
