  • Compact Framework - ListView like control ?

    Hello. I have been playing with Compact Framework lately and i need some advice. I have a collection of items. One of the properties on each item is a string type that holds XML. This XML defines image, font, style etc... Im looking for a control (similar to listView) that would replace listBox control. Im not satisfied with listView control, because it is very limited on items level. The control has to be dynamic enough so that my parser could parse the XML and customise the control. For a start i would like to show an image and perhaps some font styles for each row in the control. Here is a sample what im trying to achieve: Any suggestions?

  • ASP.NET: CSS friendly calendar control

    I'm using the built-in Calendar control. It works, but in a few places the way the HTML is rendered is broken or not CSS-friendly and unfortunately cannot be changed (it's hard coded). I was hoping they would fix this in .NET 4.0, but as far as I can tell the Calendar control hasn't been changed at all. Also, as far as I know, there's no CSS adapter for the Calendar control. So, I would need a control that would: Allow me to customize the content of each cell (like OnDayRender works) Allow me to assign CSS classes to any HTML it may render Not render anything automatically that cannot be turned off, except layout code No auto-postback or auto-JS code (I can handle these by hand using simple links or custom JS calls) Basically a simple calendar view control that would give me full rendering control. What would you recommend? Thanks!

  • How can I set up a load balancer to direct all Search Engine Bot traffic to one server?

    We have a simple load balancer set up on Rackspace to 3 web server nodes. After reviewing our traffic and expenses, the largest bandwidth hog is Google Bot. Since on Rackspace we pay for bandwidth by the byte, we'd like to direct all traffic from GoogleBot to another host (MediaTemple) with unlimited bandwidth. We think this would cut our hosting bill several thousand dollars a month. Is this possible? Advisable?

  • ASP.NET MVC : Good Replacement for User Control?

    I found user controls to be incredibly useful when working with ASP.NET webforms. By encapsulating the code required for displaying a control with the markup, creation of reusable components was very straightforward and very, very useful. While MVC provides convenient separation of concerns, this seems to break encapsulation (ie, you can add a control without adding or using its supporting code, leading to runtime errors). Having to modify a controller every time I add a control to a view seems to me to integrate concerns, not separate them. I'd rather break the purist MVC ideology than give up the benefits of reusable, packaged controls. I need to be able to include components similar to webforms user controls throughout a site, but not for the entire site, and not at a level that belongs in a master page. These components should have their own code not just markup (to interact with the business layer), and it would be great if the page controller didn't need to know about the control. Since MVC user controls don't have codebehind, I can't see a good way to do this.   • What file or directory is unique to Plesk and unlikely to change in the future?

    I am writing a program that needs to be able to detect the presence of various web hosting control panels. I don't use Plesk, or have access to a server running Plesk, so I am unable to ascertain what file or directory I could test for to reliably conclude that the system is running Plesk. What file or directory indicates "Yes, this has Plesk installed" that is unlikely to ever change in the future, but would be present on all versions of Plesk out in the wild? Thanks in advance :)

I need to load the control dynamically actually as a modal pop up I get this code VendorProductSearch uc = Page.LoadControl("~/Controls/Proposal/VendorProductSearch.ascx") as VendorProductSearch; uc.ShowVendorProductSearch(true); _tempPlaceHolder.Controls.Add(uc); it works fine the control gets loaded properly but onclick of any button the second time the control disappears ???   • Setting up Virtual Hosts with Apache on Windows 2008 server for multiple sites. Complicated setup, including subversion

    I am setting up apache on my windows 2008 server at my home. It will serve 2 functions. Subversion hosting to allow me and some others to manage company documents with version control Local website hosting for web development. Will need to run several websites since I generally work on more then one site at a time. Heres what I have done so far. I set up subversion and apache 2.2 using some walk troughs. I changed the default port to 1337. (im a nerd) Using dyndns.com I created a domain to forward to my home ip which is dynamic. ( company.gotdns.org) I then went into my DNS for my company.com and added a record to point repo.company.com to company.gotdns.org At this point people who need access to my file repository can access by going to repo.company.com/repo which is good so far. My question comes on the next step, setting up virtual hosts with apache. Ideally I would like to have my local website be viewable by some others in the company from their homes. So, say I am working on site1, I would like to have them be able to view this by going site1.roeland.bythepixel.com. At the same time, I would like to have site10.wouter.bythepixel.com go to his local setup for site10. What I have done for this: I went into my DNS for company.com and added a record to point roeland.company.com to company.gotdns.org (which translates to my ip). I added code to my httpd-vhosts.conf (listed at bottom) I added code to my host file (listed at bottom) Hah, so of course this doenst work as excepted.. going to site1.roeland.bythepixel.com doesnt bring up my test1 site. Could anyone point me where I may be going wrong?   • Should old/legacy/unused code be deleted from source control repository?

    I've encountered this in multiple projects. As the code base evolves, some libraries, applications, and components get abandoned and/or deprecated. Most people prefer to keep them in. The usual argument is that the code does not really take any space, it can be left alone until needed again. So a repository slowly turns into a cesspool of legacy code, where it's hard to find anything. Some people delete old code, since it creates clutter, raises more questions for new people, and you can restore any old snapshot of the code base anyway. However you can't always find the old code if you don't know where to look, as none of the (common) VCS I know offer search over the entire repository including all historical revisions, and the only way to search the old files is to check out the revision where the deleted file exists. What would be a good approach to repository management?

By default, all traffic is redirected through the tunnel using OpenVPN's "two more specific routes" trick, but I disabled that. So apparently the tun1 interface is working and it is possible to send packets through it. But selecting the source interface is not implemented in my actual target application (transmission), so I would like to get source address selection to work. What am I doing wrong?

How should you package the custom control? Package the control in a Merge Module (.msm) and add the .msm file to a Windows Installer project. Package the control into a cabinet project (.cab) and add the .cab file to a Windows Installer project. Create a separate directory for the control and then package it in a Windows Installer project along with the rest of the project files. Package the control as a Web setup project and create a link to that project from the Windows Installer project. Any ideas?

Different developers will use the control to display the same information in many different applications. The control must always be displayed at the bottom of the parent form in every application. It must always be as wide as the form. When the form is resized, the control should be resized and repositioned accordingly. How should I do that in the best way and why?   • problem with application after moving from local to hosting server

    I have an application developed with CodeIgniter that works perfectly on my local server. After uploading it to the hosting server I've run into few issues that I can't figure out. I removed the index.php from URL by changing $config['index_page'] = "" in config.php file and adding rewriterule in .htaccess file. Everything worked fine on a local server. On hosting server the webstie wouldn't load until I reverted those changes to defaults. Now the strangest thing. I test the website and all pages load fine except of one. When I point to that page the browser responds with "Connection closed by remote server" (That's from Opera, other browser gave similar response). After closing the browser when I try to load the website again, now it won't even load any page showing me CodeIgniter's styled error "404 Page Not Found" What he heck?

  • What do you do in your source control repository when you start a rewrite of a program?

    I wrote an application a while back and have been maintaining it for a while now, but it's gotten to the point where there's several major new features to be added, a ton of changes that need made, and I know quite a few things I could do better, so I'm starting a rewrite of the entire program (using bits and pieces from original). My question is, what do you do with SVN at this point? Should I put the new version somewhere else, or should I delete the files I no longer need, add the new files, and just treat it like normal development in SVN? How have you handled this in the past?

(one of the so called cloud hosting) Installation went smooth apache is started but I can't access it through http://84.51.250.58[this is not a link] (just to see first "It works!" page) nor I can ping let say google.com using shell from remote viewer. It's brand new installation, it should work or am I missing something?
