  • Can I use excel to read barcodes and take me to a specific cell?

    I work for a community group that holds an annual fund raiser for charity over a weekend. I am an excel user and am wanting to set it up so that I can assign a barcode on a card to a specific person. My hope is to be able to scan the barcode have it take me to a specific cell in the spread sheet so I can update the Commitment amount. and provide as much anonymity for our donors as possible. Can this even be done?

    Hi! I'm installing liferay community edition with an Oracle database, I managed to get it running with the user SYSTEM, but I don't like this... I want to create another user in another tablespace, the problem is that it seems that liferay needs to create tables and alter them according during its lifetime.   • Is Firefox less vulnerable to exploit when running NoScript?

    The article titled "iPhone, IE, Firefox, Safari get stomped at hacker contest" at The Register website discusses that Firefox can be exploited. I wonder if NoScript protects against the kind of exploits written about; or whether the browser can be exploited regardless of having the extension loaded. Any opinions? Might make this a community wiki given that it's not simple problem/solution post.

  • What are the good alternatives to Windows Movie Maker in Vista?

    Short of getting a Mac and using iMovie, what are the alternatives that you'll recommend to a non-profit organization that needs to produce simple (but polished) videos to showcase their community service activities to raise funds. Currently they are using Windows Movie Maker but have sort of outgrown it. I installed Jashaka for them, and understandably, they couldn't grok it at all. Their current system is powerful enough to handle most video editing tasks.

I love me some Process Explorer for keeping track of more than just the high-level tasks you get in the Task Manager.   • HP Server Automation - agent misreporting hostname

    I've been using HP Server Automation for some time, but have noticed an interesting issue I'm hoping the SF community has seen / knows a workaround to. When the management agent on Solaris or RHEL (only platforms I've noticed it on) reports the hostname of the managed server, it does not return the value of hostname, it returns the first alias to that entry in /etc/hosts. Any ideas on how to get around that? Other than editing /etc/hosts so the alias is at the end of the line instead of the front?

  • Pros and Cons of Creating an Internal Cerificate Authority

    What are the pros and cons of spinning up an internal certificate authority (primarily Windows 2003 CA)? We have the need to encypt server-server traffic on a project that has 20+ certificates. We could buy certs from Verisign, but I was thinking that an internal CA might be a better long term solution.     I would always just spell it out saying "Eye Eye Ess," but my boss always calls it "Two Ess," like the II is roman numeral. I know it stands for Internet Information so it is not really numbers, but on the other hand it is a lot easier to say "Two Ess." Ps- This should probably be a community wiki.

    I'm currently running MailEnable as my email server, it's ok but lacking. I'm looking for a better alternative and am wondering about Open Source. I'm a huge fan of the Smarter Mail, and will pay if it's the best I can get... But I have been learning that there is some good stuff out there in the Open Source community (IE: I've started using PFSense and I love it). Does anyone have any suggestions?
