  • Building Visual studio like application, need inputs..

    - by akjoshi
Hi, I am working on a Visual studio like application i.e. hava a tolbox, an editor and property grid similar to VS. ser can drag and drop the controls(custom and third party) to the editor window and perform operations like resize, move, align, group etc.; Properties of that control needs to be displayed in property grid and user can update them from there. As per my current understanding I will have to extend the Canvas to create my own editor and and Interface for controls which it supports; Each supported control will have to implemnt this interface so that it can be placed in our editor. Something similar to this - http://www.codeproject.com/KB/WPF/WPFDiagramDesigner_Part4.aspx Looking forward for any kind of help, comment or links.

  • Entity Framework - Using a lookup (picklist) table with a lookup key

    - by Dave
I'm working on a WPF application that is working well using the Entity Framework (3.5 SP1) for complicated table structures. The problem now is I want to get a list from the EF that includes lookups into a picklist table that has multiple picklists in it. In SQL I would write a sub select as such: SELECT Name, (Select typeName from PickLists where type_id = items.type_id and picklist_key=333) as Type_desc FROM Items There are no Foreign keys for this, and the picklists table is never updated using the EF, so it is read only as far as the EF is concerned. I'm not sure the best method to put this into the model if at all. I'm displaying in a read-only datagrid on a dashboard. Thanks!

  • How to determine direction of navigation from IE WebBrowser (IHtmlWindow2 or Javascript)

    - by Geoff Cox
I'm uisng the WPF Web Browser control and when it fires the Navigating event, the event args always contain NavigationMode.New. It should be set to NavigationMode.Back if the user chooses to 'Go Back' from the web control. So its off to the COM ActiveX control underneath to determine the direction of navigation. I've been looking at IHtmlWindow2 and IHtmlDocument2 and IOmHistory, but don't see anything that happens on navigation to tell me if the navigation is caused by going back, forward, a new address, or a refresh. Since IHtmlWindow and Javascript have the same DOM, maybe someone knows how from Javascript. I've also been looking at the IWebBrowser2 interface, but can't find anything there either. Is there an event or property I need to inspect?

  • Adjust a Control Template and still respect the Theme of the OS?

    - by bitbonk
In WPF how do I modifiy the template for a standard control in a way that it will respect the current Theme of the Operating System later on? If I just "edit a copy" of the template in blend, it will just give me the template of the currently running theme. Is this correct? So when I apply the modified template and run the app on different themes it will always look the same. For custom controls and even for data templates the problem is similar. How do I provide a template that respects all possible themes of the OS?

  • ClickOnce application configured to perform updates programmatically still sometimes displays the Cl

    - by Tom Hall
We have a WPF application deployed using ClickOnce which checks for and performs updates programmatically on application startup. This generally behaves perfectly except for the case where the user chooses "No" to our "Do you wish to update?" prompt. In this case, the next time the user launches the application (consistently) the ClickOnce framework's "Update Available" dialog launches with the option to update or skip. This doesn't cause a technical problem but will be confusing to the user to potentially see two completely differently styled dialogs. (If the user chooses Skip to the ClickOnce dialog then the application then launches and renders our own "Update Available" dialog). Any ideas why the ClickOnce framework dialog is showing in this case? Thanks.

  • Using SketchFlow to prototype MS Surface Applications

    - by Isak Savo
Hi We're doing mockups/prototyping on a MS Surface device and I wonder if anyone has succeeded in using SketchFlow for this. The problem that I see is that the code generated by the tool uses normal WPF controls (Button, etc.) instead of the contact aware surface counterparts (SurfaceButton) which means that they won't work nice on the surface unless you also use a mouse. Additionally, it would be nice if it was possible to hook in to other gesture events to trigger sketchflow transitions. Like the pinch gestures to switch page etc. Has anyone had any success with prototyping for Surface using Sketchflow. If so, how did you do it?

  • MVVM with animations (should I use VisualStateManager?)

    - by kennethkryger
I've got a View.xaml with the following set in Resources-section: <DataTemplate DataType="{x:Type ViewModels:MyFirstViewModel}"> <Views:MyFirstView Content="{Binding}" /> </DataTemplate> <DataTemplate DataType="{x:Type ViewModels:MySecondViewModel}"> <Views:MySecondView Content="{Binding}"/> </DataTemplate> In the content of the View.xaml I have: <!-- SelectedMyViewModel is either set to MyFirstViewModel or MySecondViewModel --> <ContentControl Content="{Binding SelectedMyViewModel}" /> When the SelectedMyViewModel changes I'd like to have a animation, so that the current view is faded out and the new view is faded in... Somehow I feel this should be possible via the VisualStateManager - but I can't figure out how! This is a WPF 4.0 project...

  • Change background color of disabled listbox in windows classic theme

    - by Mercury821
I am developing a WPF application that must run using Windows Classic theme. The application creates a dialog box containing a ListBox. When the dialog box is shown, it must be disabled for 1s before accepting any input. I am accomplishing this with a style trigger, and it works. However, the ListBox shows a white background when it's disabled, which I can't seem to get rid of. When using the aero theme, the following style resource fixes the issue: <SolidColorBrush x:Key="{x:Static SystemColors.ControlBrushKey}" Color="Transparent"/> But when using Windows Classic theme, the white background reappears. How can i remedy the situation for Classic theme???

  • Change binding value, not binding itself

    - by Sam
I've got a WPF UserControl containing a DependencyProperty (MyProperty). The DependencyProperty is bound to a Property in the DataContext. Now in the UserControl I want to change the value of the bound property. But if I assign MyProperty = NewValue the Binding is lost and replaced by NewValue. What I want to achieve is change the DataContext-property the DependencyProperty is bound to. How do I achieve this instead of changing the binding? To clarify: using something like MyTextBox.Text = "0"; I'll release the binding. How would I set Text, leave the binding intact so the property Text is bound to will change, too.

  • What are the real-world benefits of declarative-UI languages such as XAML and QML?

    - by Stu Mackellar
I'm currently evaluating QtQuick (Qt User Interface Creation Kit) which will be released as part of Qt 4.7. QML is the JavaScript-based declarative language behind QtQuick. It seems to be a very powerful concept, but I'm wondering if anybody that's made extensive use of other, more mature declarative-UI languages like XAML in WPF or Silverlight can give any insight into the real-world benefits that can be gained from this style of programming. Various advantages are often cited: Speed of development Forces separation between presentation and logic Better integration between coders and designers UI changes don't require re-compilation Also, are there any downsides? A few potential areas of concern spring to mind: Execution speed Memory usage Added complexity Are there any other considerations that should be taken into account?

  • Refresh/Reset View

    - by Jay
Hi, I'm using MVP in WPF and I came across a design doubt and I would to get your opinion on this: At some point I need to refresh my view and perform the same initial queries, like when the view was loading. The view's DataContext is my presenter and I have a couple of collections and other variables that are bound to the view. When I need to refresh the view, I'm clearing the collections and the variables and setting the DataContext to null. After that I fetch new data, populate the collections and set the DataContext. Is this the best way to achieve this? The issue with this, is that i'm affraid that when my app grows bigger I forget to reset some variable...the ideal would be to reload the view again in some way without having to worry with the variables I have. Best regards.

  • Add new row: ListView vs. DataGrid

    - by Shimmy
Hello! I have been looking around and even found a couple of related answers and didn't get a certain answer to my question. Is there a way to have in the WPF ListView an additional row like in a DataGrid? I prefer using the ListView since I use 3.5 and the DataGrid is not officially in the box and has many quirks. I would prefer using the ListView if there is an official option to add new rows or else I use the DataGrid. Thanks a lot.

  • ScrollBars are not visible after changing positions of controls inside a Canvas

    - by akjoshi
Hi, I created a custom canvas control inheriting from WPF Canvas. I am using it like this in main window - <ScrollViewer HorizontalScrollBarVisibility="Auto" VerticalScrollBarVisibility="Auto"> <RTD:RTDesignerCanvas Margin="5" Background="White" x:Name="canvas1" Focusable="True" AllowDrop="True"> </RTD:RTDesignerCanvas> </ScrollViewer> Everyhting works fine but when I try to set the position of controls inside it like this Canvas.SetTop(item, 200); scrollbars are not visible and control is hiddedn down somewhere. Intrestingly, if I add another control to it scroll bars are visible and I can scroll downwards to see the previous control. I tried to use base.InvalidateVisual(); base.UpdateLayout(); base.InvalidateArrange(); after changing items Top or Left but nothing happens; Am I missing something or this happens due to some bug?

    - by mark smith

I did use the mvvm toolkit (microsoft) but currently use vs 2010 and no templates are available as yet. I was looking for some insight into mvvm light toolkit... Is it always maintained ? i..e its not going to be gone tomorrow... Or shoudl i be looking elsewhere?? I would really appreciate any feedback... I also saw some info on how it is blendable which the mvvm toolkit (microsoft) didn't seem to have.. Prism also seems to be also a likely candidate but from what i understand its not a MVVM framework / toolkit i would be using it with wpf Any help really appreciated Thank you

  • Batch scripting for directories or better method

    - by baron
Hi Everyone, Looking at creating a simple batch file for my app. My app needs some directories to be in place as it runs. The first method I thought was just make a batch script: @ECHO OFF IF NOT EXIST C:\App GOTO :CREATE ELSE GOTO :DONTCREATE :CREATE MKDIR C:\App\Code ECHO DIRECTORY CREATED :DONTCREATE ECHO IT WAS ALREADY THERE 1) This doesn't run as I would expect. Both :CREATE and :DONTCREATE seem to run regardless? How do I do an If properly then? Output: A subdirectory or file C:\App\Code already exists. DIRECTORY CREATED IT WAS ALREADY THERE So it enters both true and false statements? 2) The app is a C# WPF app. For what I am trying to do here (create a couple of directories if they don't already exist) - should I do it some other way? Perhaps in the application as it runs?

  • DateTime Property not firing PropertyChanged event when changed

    - by Brent
I'm working on a WPF MVVM application and I've got a TextBox on my view that is bound to a DateTime property on the ViewModel. Seems simple enough, but when I clear the text in the TextBox, the property never changes. In fact, it never even fires until I begin typing "4/1..." and then it fires. What can I do to fix this? Obviously I could bind the TextBox to a string property and then update the real property in the setter, but that's a bit of a hack. There's got to be a better way... ViewModel private DateTime _startDate; public DateTime StartDate { get { return _startDate; } set { _startDate = value; OnPropertyChanged("StartDate"); } } View <TextBox Text="{Binding Path=StartDate, UpdateSourceTrigger=PropertyChanged, ValidatesOnDataErrors=true}"/>

  • YesNo MessageBox not closing when x-button clicked

    - by Simpzon
When I open a MessageBox with options YesNo, the (usually) cancelling cross in the upper right is shown but has no effect. System.Windows.MessageBox.Show("Really, really?", "Are you sure?", MessageBoxButton.YesNo); If I offer YesNoCancel as options, clicking the cross closes the Dialog with DialogResult Cancel. System.Windows.MessageBox.Show("Really, really?", "Are you sure?", MessageBoxButton.YesNoCancel); I would have expected that the cross is "looking disabled" if not hidden at all, when clicking it has no effect. Probably I am not the first one observing this. What is your favorite way to hide/disable this button or workaround the issue? Note: I would prefer a solution that does not use System.Windows.Forms, since I am dealing with WPF projects and would like to avoid any InterOp if possible.

  • How to implement an override method in IronPython

    - by Adal
I'm trying to implement a WPF control in IronPython and I'm having trouble implemented the override methods. The code below fails with this error: TypeError: expected int, got instancemethod. If I rename the VisualChildrenCount method, the exception is not raised anymore, but the control doesn't work. So how do I tell IronPython that the method is an override? class PaintCanvas(FrameworkElement): def __init__(self): self.__children = VisualCollection(self) dv = DrawingVisual() self.__children.Add(dv) # In C# this should be: protected override int VisualChildrenCount def VisualChildrenCount(self): return self.__children.Count # In C# this should be: protected override Visual GetVisualChild(int index) def GetVisualChild(self, index): return self.__children[index]

  • SelectedIndex of combobox not updating correctly using databinding.

    - by Matthijs Wessels
I have a ComboBox: <ComboBox Name="iComponentFieldComboBox" SelectedIndex="{Binding ComponentFieldSelectedIndex, Mode=TwoWay}" Height="23" Margin="132,0,280,38" VerticalAlignment="Bottom"> <ComboBoxItem Name="item1">item1</ComboBoxItem> <ComboBoxItem Name="item2">item2</ComboBoxItem> <ComboBoxItem Name="item3">item3</ComboBoxItem> </ComboBox> When I start my WPF and set the ComponentFieldSelectedIndex property of my ViewModel in my code, nothing happens. But after I have selected an item in the combobox, then suddenly setting ComponentFieldSelectedIndex does work. for example: start app. click button that sets ComponentFieldSelectedIndex to 1. selected item doesn't change to item2. select item3 in combo box. click button that sets ComponentFieldSelectedIndex to 1. selected item does change to item2. Does anyone have an idea what could be causing this?

  • How apply a storyboard to a Label programmatically ?

    - by ThitoO
Hi :), I've a little problem, I'd search google and my Wpf's books but I don't found any answer :( I have created a little storyboard : <Storyboard x:Key="whiteAnim" Duration="1"> <ColorAnimation By="Black" To="White" Storyboard.TargetProperty="Background" x:Name="step1"/> <ColorAnimation By="White" To="Black" Storyboard.TargetProperty="Background" x:Name="step2"/> </Storyboard> This animation will change background color from black to white, and from white to black. I want to "apply" this storyboard to a Label : Label label = new Label(); label.Content = "My label"; I'm looking for a method like "label.StartStoryboard(--myStoryboard--), do you have any ideas ? • Graphical net and text

    - by chesheerkys
Hello! My task is to make a control, that behaves itself like RichTextBox, but contains a graphical net. The only task, this net is solving, is to be visible. It should be solution in overriding OnPaint method, but it doesn't. This code: protected override void OnPaint(System.Windows.Forms.PaintEventArgs e) { base.OnPaint(e); ...//drawing a line } gives me RichTextBox without of text This code: protected override void WndProc(ref System.Windows.Forms.Message m) { base.WndProc(ref m); if (m.Msg == 15) { Graphics g = this.CreateGraphics(); g.DrawLine(new Pen(Color.White, 1), new Point(0, 0), new Point(400, 400)); } } sometimes draws extra lines Actually since these two ways don't work, I don't know what to try. Waiting for your advices :) BR Dmitry P.S. I’ve heard a lot about great opportunities of WPF, but I’m not really common with this technology and don’t know what to start with. P.P.S. Sorry for my English, it’s not my natural language.

  • Transpose a Collection

    - by Joseph Melettukunnel
Hello, I've a list of different sizes of a T-Shirt, e.g. S, M, L. Since this might change for T-Shirts (sometimes we just have e.g. M, L), we load this into a List sizes. Since most DataGrids (xamDataGrid, WPF Toolkit DataGrid) need Properties for binding to the Columns, I'd like to transpose somehow my data. Does anyone have an idea how to do this? E.g. Instead of having List where Size { string sizeName, int available, int defect, int ordered} Avail. Defect Ordered [S] 1 2 3 [M] 1 2 3 [L] 1 2 3 I want an Object which has the Properties S, M, L containing the Values like this: [S] [M] [L] Avail. 1 2 3 Defect 1 2 3 Ordered 1 2 3 The problem here is that I don't know how many sizes will be available for the tshirt, it might be 3, 4, or 10. Thanks for any help Cheers PS: Here is a mockup of how the final grid should look like http://img39.imageshack.us/img39/9161/multirowspangridfixedel.png
