• How can I make zaz save its profile data?

  I've been playing Zaz recently as a time waster and stress beater, but it seems not to be actively maintained, and is not saving profile data under Ubuntu 12.10. It's getting to be more stressful than fun, because it keeps crashing, and under Unity, Gnome Shell, KDE (in other words, any opengl enabled WM) it makes the GPU lockup. How can I make it save the profile data or create a profile that I can manually place my level info in? I'm tired of playing the same levels over and over and not being able to start from the ones I've already passed. I am still yet to find any info on fixing this. Any clues?

  I am wondering if there is anything to disable the intel gpu on ubuntu 12.04. I want to be able to setup dual monitor using nvidia-settings. • Why C++ people loves multithreading when it comes to performances?

  I have a question, it's about why programmers seems to love concurrency and multi-threaded programs in general. I'm considering 2 main approach here: an async approach basically based on signals, or just an async approach as called by many papers and languages like the new C# 5.0 for example, and a "companion thread" that maanges the policy of your pipeline a concurrent approach or multi-threading approach I will just say that I'm thinking about the hardware here and the worst case scenario, and I have tested this 2 paradigms myself, the async paradigm is a winner at the point that I don't get why people 90% of the time talk about concurrency when they wont to speed up things or make a good use of their resources. I have tested multi-threaded programs and async program on an old machine with an Intel quad-core that doesn't offer a memory controller inside the CPU, the memory is managed entirely by the motherboard, well in this case performances are horrible with a multi-threaded application, even a relatively low number of threads like 3-4-5 can be a problem, the application is unresponsive and is just slow and unpleasant. A good async approach is, on the other hand, probably not faster but it's not worst either, my application just waits for the result and doesn't hangs, it's responsive and there is a much better scaling going on. I have also discovered that a context change in the threading world it's not that cheap in real world scenario, it's infact quite expensive especially when you have more than 2 threads that need to cycle and swap among each other to be computed. On modern CPUs the situation it's not really that different, the memory controller it's integrated but my point is that an x86 CPUs is basically a serial machine and the memory controller works the same way as with the old machine with an external memory controller on the motherboard. The context switch is still a relevant cost in my application and the fact that the memory controller it's integrated or that the newer CPU have more than 2 core it's not bargain for me. For what i have experienced the concurrent approach is good in theory but not that good in practice, with the memory model imposed by the hardware, it's hard to make a good use of this paradigm, also it introduces a lot of issues ranging from the use of my data structures to the join of multiple threads. Also both paradigms do not offer any security abut when the task or the job will be done in a certain point in time, making them really similar from a functional point of view. According to the X86 memory model, why the majority of people suggest to use concurrency with C++ and not just an async aproach ? Also why not considering the worst case scenario of a computer where the context switch is probably more expensive than the computation itself ?

• Ubuntu 12.04 intermittently fails to wake up from sleep

  When I put my Ubuntu 12.04 machine into sleep, sometimes on waking up, it fails, logs me out, and takes me back to login screen. When I log back in, it tells me some unexpected error happened, but it fails to let me report the bug. This has started to happen recently, but I don't know what triggered it. uname -a Linux [name] 3.2.0-30-generic #48-Ubuntu SMP Fri Aug 24 16:52:48 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux The issue seems similar to Xorg intermittently restarts after suspend. But in my case I am not sure if it is a Xorg issue. I looked at xorg logs, but didn't notice anything indicating an error. I know I am not providing a lot of info, but I am not sure where (e.g. which log files) I should seek for more info.

• juju: How do I list all the relation variables and debug them interactively?

  I'm writing a charm that requires a mysql database, I found from looking at other charms that this (below) is how I get the info about the database: user=`relation-get user` password=`relation-get password` mysqlhost=`relation-get private-address` But I just found that from reading the wordpress charm example, is there a way to show all the relation variables that I can use? Also, while debugging my db-relation-changed script, I wanted to ssh into my host and interactively run those commands, for example relation-get user, but it didn't work. I resorted to having to restart everything and use juju log to print them out. This wasted a lot of time. Is there a way to print out these relations, either from my dev box or from the instance running my charm? • Moving from mock to real objects?

  I'm like doing TDD so I started everything mocking objects, creating interface, stubbing, great. The design seems to work, now I'll implement the stuff, a lot of the code used in the stubs are going to be reused in my real implementation yay! Now should I duplicate the tests to use the real object implementation (but keeping the mocks object of the sensitive stuff like Database and "services" that are out of my context (http calls, etc...)) Or just change the mocks and stubs of the actual tests to use the real objects....... So the question is that, keep two tests or replace the stubs, mocks? And after that, I should keep designing with the mocks, stubs or just go with real objects? (Just making myself clear I'll keep the mock object of the sensitive stuff like database and services that are out of my context, in both situations.)

  I made a partition on my desktop pc, 100 GB and installed Ubuntu 12.10 on it. It was pretty slow first thought it had to install updates or something, so I rebooted it. Now after the login it looks like everything freezes, I can move my mouse only, but that's it! I can see my desktop and launcher, but the task bar doesn't display time and misc system info, only a black bar, I downloaded the Android SDK pack and installed vlc media player before I rebooted. My computer info: 1 TB HDD 8 GB ddr3 RAM ATI Radeon 4890 videocard (1 GB) AMD Phenom 2 x4 black 3, 2ghz CPU (64 bits)

• Is there a way to forward emails associated with a domain without a mail server?

  A client owns example1.com but wants to also purchase example2.com and have it point to their original site at example1.com. No problem there. But they also want any emails going to example2.com to be forwarded to their counter parts at example1.com Eg: if someone emails [email protected] it will be forwarded to [email protected] They only way I can think of doing this at the moment is to set up host for example2.com and then set up mail forwarders in cpanel. But this seems a bit excessive and costly. Does anyone know another, cheaper way of doing this?

This window is different following the context I hit the power button : when logged in and seeing my desktop, it includes colourful icons (red for shutting down, for example). when I am not logged in yet, the icons are monochrome and a little bit more stylized.   Today I came across a wierd issue in a Visual Studio 2008 Code Coverage Analysis. Consider the following method:  private IController GetController<T>(IContext context) where T : IController, new() {     IController controller = new T();     controller.ListeningContext = context;     controller.Plugin = this;     return controller; } This method is called in a unit test as follows (MenuController has an empty constructor): controller = plugin.GetController<MenuController>(null);  After calling this method from a Unit Test, the following code coverage report is generated: As you can see, Code Coverage is only 85%. Looking up the code results in the following: Apparently, the call to the constructor of the generic type is considered only partly covered. WHY? Google didn't help. And MSDN didn't help at all, of course. Anybody who does know?

  Hi guys i am stuck with filling up the data of all the blocks which are empty like the ones in the image. As you can see there i have a pacman like object where i will be moving around. But when you are in the empty space where there are no Blue boxes available i should be able to add new blocks in the path of my pacman and when it touches any other blue boxes like in the below case if my pacman touches the top row of the blue box i should be able to fill all the empty boxed inside the border of the path created by pacman. For now i am using a 2d bool array to store all the filled boxed info like if there is a box inside i am making that cell in an array as true. But how to fill the area with blue boxes after player finishes his path ? Any help would be great thank you. • ASP.net FFMPEG video conversion receiving error: "Error number -2 occurred"

  Hello, I am attempting to integrate FFMPEG into my asp.net website. The process I am trying to complete is to upload a video, check if it is .avi, .mov, or .wmv and then convert this video into an mp4 using x264 so my flash player can play it. I am using an http handler (ashx) file to handle my upload. This is where I am also putting my conversion code. I am not sure if this is the best place to put it, but I wanted to see if i could at least get it working. Additionally, I was able to complete the conversion manually through cmd line. The error -2 comes up when i output the standard error from the process I executed.   I am using Hadoop (CDH 4.5) on my mac since some time now, and do run map reduce jobs regularly. I installed oozie recently (again, CDH4.5) following instructions at: http://archive.cloudera.com/cdh4/cdh/4/oozie-3.3.2-cdh4.5.0/DG_QuickStart.html, and tried to run sample programs provided. However, it always fails with the following error. Looks like the workflow is not getting run at all. The Console URL field in the Job info is also empty. Could someone please help on this? • nhibernate configure and buildsessionfactory time

  Hi, I'm using Nhibernate as the OR/M tool for an asp.net application and the startup performance is really frustrating. Part of the problem is definitely me in my lack of understanding but I've tried a fair bit (understanding is definitely improving) and am still getting nowhere. Currently ANTS profiler has that the Configure() takes 13-18 seconds and the BuildSessionFActory() as taking about 5 seconds. From what i've read, these times might actually be pretty good, but they were generally talking about hundreds upon hundreds of mapped entities...this project only has 10. I've combined all the mapping files into a single hbm mapping file and this did improve things but only down to the times mentioned above... I guess, are there any "Traps for young players" that are regularly missed...obvious "I did this/have you enabled that/exclude file x/mark file y as z" etc... I'll try the serialize the configuration thing to avoid the Configure() stage, but I feel that part shouldn't be that long for that amount of entities and so would essentially be hiding a current problem...
