  • Date or String declaration in a javabean

    Should I declare an attribute in a javabean that holds a date value a user types in on an HTML form as a String or Date? I feel I should declare as a Date, however, since I do server validation on all form data, if the date doesn't validate, when I pass the form bean back to the jsp view for correcting, I lose the date value that the user tried to type in. If I declare as a String, if the date doesn't validate, I'm able to set the string value in the bean and pass the bean back to the view and the user can see what they incorrectly typed. But with a String declaration for Date inputs I forsee problems down the road with my DAO. I want to be able to use a DAO utility which generates a prepare statement using setObject. In my html form I request dates to be mm/dd/yyyy and in DAO i'm using Oracle Date. I can not use hibernate or such, since this is a corporate intranet. What is the best practice "pattern" I should be following??

  • Removing item from a comma delimited string when removed from list view

    I'm using a combo box to select an item from a list of 25 items. The selected item is input in a text box in a comma delimited string. It is updating a list view and showing each item separately by breaking the comma delimited string. The text box is not visible to users but doing the work in back end. Now I want to remove any item from list view and want it so that the text box containing the comma delimited string should also change and remove that item from the string. Is it possible?

    In my Android app, I want to use a single variable for the log name in multiple files. At the moment, I'm specifying it separately in each file, e.g. public final String LOG_NAME = "LogName"; Log.d(LOG_NAME, "Logged output); I've tried this: public final String LOG_NAME = (String) getText(R.string.app_name_nospaces); And while this works in generally most of my files, Eclipse complains about one of them: The method getText(int) is undefined for the type DatabaseManager I've made sure I'm definitely importing android.content.Context in that file. If I tell it exactly where to find getText: Multiple markers at this line - Cannot make a static reference to the non-static method getText(int) from the type Context - The method getText(int) is undefined for the type DatabaseManager I'm sure I've committed a glaringly obvious n00b error, but I just can't see it!     I always assumed that Unicode string handling was some dark art. However, I've seen that the Windows API has functions for comparing Unicode strings, for example. Does that mean that it's actually feasible to write a Unicode string class that can perform simple actions like sorting, equality comparison, and extraction from a file? Or are there hidden gotchas in the use of these functions that makes it actually a really bad idea? I'm just looking at libraries like ICU and they seem incredibly over-complicated compared to what a Unicode string class backed by the Windows API could actually look like, which would resemble the Standard string classes quite closely.

  • What format is your documentation in?

    I am going to be writing documentation for two web services that I developed, and I started wondering what people on here do for documentation. Do you create it in an HTML file so it can be viewed in the browser? Word document? Wiki? What do you guys/gals use? I was originally leaning towards creating an HTML page since it seems a little more open and friendly than a word document. Plus I can use the prettify javascript to make code samples look nice. Our company has a Sharepoint though, so an HTML file may not be the best choice given that most documentation is put up in spreadsheets and word documents.

  • Mysterious different conversion to string[] of seemingly same input data

    During investigation of some problem I found that the reason was unexpected different conversion to string[] of seemingly same input data. Namely, in the code below two commands both return the same two items File1.txt and File2.txt. But conversion to string[] gives different results, see the comments. Any ideas why is it? This might be a bug. If anybody also thinks so, I’ll submit it.     Before you ignore / vote-to-close this question, I consider this a valid question to ask because code clarity is an important topic of discussion, it's essential to writing maintainable code and I would greatly appreciate answers from those who have come across this before. I've recently run into this problem, LINQ queries can get pretty nasty real quick because of the large amount of nesting. It works well but since the videos are added by the user I need a way of checking to see whether or not a video can be played on the machine. Currently I am displaying it on screen as a currency like so- DonationAmount.ToString("C"); This gives the following output (given a US locale) 1 -> $1.00 2 -> $2.00 0.5 -> $0.50 I am happy with the first two example, but want to have "0.5" show as "50c". My current solution is with a conditional- if (DonationAmount > 1) return (DonationAmount * 100m).ToString() + "c"; else return DonationAmount.ToString("C"); Is there a better way?

The combination of (student_id + subject_id) is added to Score table. i.e., capturing that sudent '1' has added 'Mathematics' marks with the actual score (say 0-100 range) student id : subjectid Score 1 Mathematics 95 The Add page of Score has a "subject" drop down. which is displayed from "subject" table. When the student wants to add the 2nd subject marks, in the add page, he should not be displayed the previoys added subject in the drop down. Can any1 tell me how to do this?

It would be good to have an option to list full or short SHA1. A bash script is also fine, but it would be nice to use git commands more and shell scripting less. I've read this question Git - how to tell which commit a tag points to and it helped me, but it's not all I want. Edit: I didn't know that annotated tags had SHA1. I wanted SHA1 of commits that tag points to, not the tags themselfs.

    Hello all, I have a set of complex Excel files (with figures in it) that I want to show in a web browser. So I need to convert them into HTML page first. Since the excel files are very complex, I can not just parse them and generate a HTML table with HTML tags. The current manual solution that works fine is when I use Microsoft Excel software to save the spreadsheet as a HTML page. I want to automate this task in some way since I want to do it progrmatically through Java. Is their any existing solution or a way to do it? Thanks.
