  • Android Internet permission and Google Play filtering

    I added <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.INTERNET" /> to my manifest in order to have access to Internet, but this is not a main function of my app. So, I don't want to get filtered in Google Play because of this. There is no matching <uses-feature> for this, so my question is what do I need to add with required="false" to avoid filtering. I guess I could add <uses-feature android:name="android.hardware.wifi" android:required="false" /> but what about mobile Internet (3G/4G), do I also need this? <uses-feature android:name="android.hardware.telephony" android:required="false"/> I want to know which filtering android.permission.INTERNET adds on Google Play, if it adds something.

  • Can I show a single country (masked out) in GoogleMaps?

    Hello! Is it possible to mask away neighbor countries in GoogleMap? In my case I just want to show Sweden on one view. On a second view just Norway, Denmark etc etc... I know it is possible to draw polygon lines and fill them accordingly on to Maps API. Problem is that or the result sets get huge or the lines get very rough etc... Would be nice if GoogleMaps could deliver a country at the time without neighbors. Does anyone know about a good coordinate database with country borders? Best best regards, Niclas

  • Client or server side invocation to google API?

    I'm writing a web application with GWT and I've to call google calendar's API to retrieve some information. I now have this dilemma: Is it better to use a client side invocation (using javascript or gwt-gdata library) or using the standard google library for java to call the service at server side and then passing all the data to the client via an async call?? I'm not able to understand pros and cons of the two approaches... In particular, I need to call several time the calendar API to retrieve events and let users add new ones, etc. Can you help me?

  • Looking for Google Reader javscript commands for controlling events

    I've played in the /reader/ui/ code for a few hours now, and couldn't figure this out. Also, I didn't see any exact help when searching StackOverflow. This is really a JavaScript un-obfuscator question. I'm looking for a way to call the obfuscated Google Reader javascript commands... and am having trouble determining what actual function is called when the "Next Items" button is pressed or the spacebar is hit. I've tried using Firebug as well as FireEvents to track it down, but it's just too well hidden. Any ideas? Something that I could type into the URL bar and make it run, something like 'javascript:SH("entries-down", "click");void(0);' Thanks in advance! And, please let me know if it's against Google's terms of service to de-obfuscate their code to view these JavaScript commands.

I'm developing for Android. in the documentation they tell me to create a class that overrides ItemizedOverlay but in the constructor I'm asked to provide a drawable object. how do I point to the standard Google Maps ones? thanks.

  • Convert Google results object (pure js) to Python object

    So I'm trying to use Google Map suggest API to request place name suggestions. Unfortunately I can't find the docs for this bit. Here is an example URI: http://maps.google.com/maps/suggest?q=lon&cp=3&ll=55.0,-3.5&spn=11.9,1.2&hl=en&gl=uk&v=2 which returns: {suggestion:[{query:"London",... I want to use this in python (2.5). Now in proper JSON there would have been quotations around the keys like so: {"suggestion":[{"query":"London",... and I could have used simplejson or something, but as it is I'm a bit stuck. There are two possible solutions here; either I can get to the API code and find an option to return proper JSON, or I do that in python. Any ideas please.

    I was thinking of having a simple feedback form in my website. It would be something like: Your Feedback will help us improve. [ ] and then a textfield/textarea where the user can type (let's say) up to 100 characters of feedback. Rather than handling it all myself on the serverside I was thinking to use google analytics (since my site is already wireup) and everytime a user writes a comment send a custom event to google analytics. I think it might work. Can people suggest a better approach or point out any problem with this idea thanks

    Maybe this has an obvious solution that I'm overlooking, but I can't seem to find the correct parameter to put in to make this happen. Using the Google Translate widget on a site, I need to set the default language that the user sees when entering the site, even though the site is english. function googleTranslateElementInit() { new google.translate.TranslateElement({ pageLanguage: 'en' }, 'google_translate_element'); } I've tried adding: defaultLanguage: 'fr' and tried: targetLanguage: 'fr' I did find some nice jQuery solutions, but didn't want to bypass this if it was an easy fix.   • google analytics - event tracking without affecting bounce rate

    Hi, I'm studding a way of using Google Analytics to track Ad impressions/clicks. Looks like event tracking is the way to go. Tracking clicks it's easy to implement. My doubt resides on impressions: using event tracking on page load will cut down my bounce rate to 0 using a second profile doesn't look elegant (leave it for last resource) GOAL: John loads page A and leave. Count 1 for impressions and 1 for bounce rate as it should. Is there a way of doing it with Google Analytics?

  • I can't get the MapsDemo that comes with "Google APIs by Google Inc, Android API8, revision 2" to work

    I have tried everything according to instructions to get the MapsDemo to work on API8. I followed all the certificate signing instructions and all I get is a blank (blue) screen on the emulator. I see that people have been having the same issues but all the suggested solutions boil down to the certificate signing and that has not worked for me. One guy on the Internet even said he got it to work but never said how!!!! So, I thought I'd try the MapsDemo that comes with "Google APIs by Google Inc, Android API7, revision 1". There I saw the map come up on the emulator but only once. That one time it came up clearly and I was able to pan it but after exiting the app and trying it again, it no longer worked. Now all I get is some faint outlines that makes it look like it's trying to work but for some reason is not successful. I am running on Windows Vista Service Pack 2 and using Eclipse Helios. Please help, Hans

    Hello folks, I'm writing a sync application for Lotus Notes and Google (I know, there are some of them out there, but they are either not free or sync only calendar (or only contacts) and most of them cannot deal with local mailfiles). This works so far, but I have a problem when syncing contacts: under certain circustances, the contacts have to be deleted and recreated in Google. This causes them to disappear from the chat list in GMail and the people have to be re-invited manually. Is there any way to send these invites through the API? Thanks in advance DBa

  • Google maps z-index problem in IE

    I'm loading my google maps into div class="extra" style="display: none;" /. As soon as the AJAX request is complete, the map_canvas div is placed inside the hidden div and the hidden div will be vissible with the toggleDown jquery effect. In FF it's working perfect, but in IE the Google maps (map_canvas div) is already visible before the toggleDown effect is started. I think the z-index and the relative position of the map_canvas div wich is loaded into the hidden div will place the map_canvas div on top of the hidden div. What do i have to change to make sure the map_canvas div is not on top of the hidden div?     I am having a real problem with this. I want to know if it is possible to run/call a javascript function in a Google Chrome web browser window from a VB.net application. The scenario is that i want to monitor the pc activity (which i know how to) and then if a certain event is met (for example, high ram usage) then it calls a JavaScript function in a Google Chrome web browser window so the website is updated. Sort of like a bridge. The only bit it need to know is the vb.net code for how to access a chrome window and invoke a javascript function if its possible. I assume i will need to use process handlers? Any help is appreciated.

  • How taxing would a game map grid be to a web browser?

    Suppose we're making a strategy game (think Civilization) in a web browser. The game has a visible map portion - say 30x30 squares. Each square is 30x30px and has several overlaid images - the terrain, resources, units, roads, etc. The classical way of drawing this would be with a huge <table> where each cell would contain absolutely positioned images. It would probably be rendered in Javascript to reduce traffic. But it's still several thousand images and a huge table. Can the browser take it? Will the performance not drop below any acceptable limits? Alternatively I could keep a pre-rendered map image with as many overlays as possible, but that would be more work, I think.
