  From Beej's Guide to Network programming You can force it to use IPv4 or IPv6 in the ai_family field, or leave it as AF_UNSPEC to use whatever. This is cool because your code can be IP version-agnostic. As the title says - what would be the disadvantages (or risks, if any) of always using AF_UNSPEC, instead of specifying IPv4 or IPv6? Or it's only for one reason - if the version is specified, this will guarantee that this and only this version is supported? A little background - I think about adding support for IPv6 in client-server (C++) applications and both versions should be supported. So I wondered if it's fine to use AF_UNSPEC or it's better to "recognize" the address from the string and use AF_INET6 or AF_INET, depending on the address.

However, I feel that I need to stay current, both for my own personal desire as well as being able to guide a team to best practices etc. I'm finding it very hard to stay on top of the game because there are so many new frameworks, technologies and patterns coming out. Do I concentrate on a particular aspect or framework? Do I become a generalist or a specialist? What are others doing to maintain a certain level of proficiency and currentness (sic)?

  The thing is this, in Android 1.5 and 1.6 we had the Icon Design Guidelines. In this guide there are specifications for application icons. Every application should conform to this. However, in recent Android versions (2.0 and 2.1) icons have changed from the old to this new flat 2D style. Every icon in Nexus One has this style, so not even Google is conforming to the guideline. To see the differences between high and low density icons see this image and compare Evernote icon with the rest. I've been able to use different icons by using two directories with different icons: drawables-hdpi/icon.png and drawables/icon.png, BUT not every Android 2.x is going to be HDPI and not every 1.x Android device is going to be low pixel density. So the question is: Should I deploy different icons for different Android platform version within my apk file? and if I should, How do I do it?

  Hello SO, I'm trying to do user impersonation for a web application we have. The user selects the user they'd like to emulate/impersonate and then clicks the button which fires this: protected void uxImpersonate_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { ... FormsAuthentication.SetAuthCookie(uxUserToEmulate.SelectedValue, false); Response.Redirect("Impersonation.aspx"); //reload page manually } We have a dev - test - production server environment and on two servers this works just fine, but on another one, in all browsers, it kicks me to the login screen. What's going on and how can I fix it? We're on ASP.NET 2.0, and I'm using http://stackoverflow.com/questions/549016/user-impersonation-with-asp-net-forms-authentication as a guide. UPDATE: It appears that the user actually is impersonated successfully but is loosing their Role as admin (only Admin Role's can access this impersonation page).

• lwjgl 101: How can I write applets?

  I have a working app in lwjgl. It doesn't do much yet; I've just started, but it does compile and run like it's supposed to. I want to make it into an applet. I've followed the guide here, and I have an applet that runs nicely and displays text and such in the applet area and can access the functions of lwjgl (like Sys.alert), but I can't figure out how to get opengl to actually render. I've tried extending an AWTGLCanvas and calling this.add(myAWTGLCanvas), where this is the Applet that I'm using, but... nothing. The initGL() and paintGL() methods never get called. I wonder if I'm supposed to be doing something with Display, but that's not for applets, right? Help? Also: This counts as a "beginner" question, right? Edit: Here's a simplified version of what I have.

  i am done with my first iphone app (SO helps a lot..thanks). now i want to submit my app to app store for review. i can use itunes connect to submit my app.i have few questions. 1)i dont know how to create a build for release. what i mean is i dont know what profile it requires. there are help videos but they all guide to do development provisioning not for release. 2) where do i specify all app attributes like Genre and so on. 3) i dont have iTunesArtwork but it does not show in my itunes when i create distribute build. is it going to same for release. hope my question is genuine.

  Hi! I'm relatively new to Django and I'm designing a website that primarily needs usability experience, speaking of optimized CSS, HTML5 and UI stuff. It's very easy to use Django for data/Model centric design. Just designing a couple of Python classes and ./manage.py syncdb - there's your Model. But I'm dealing with a significant amount of View centric challenges. (Different user classes, different tasks, different design challenges.) The official Django tutorial cursorily goes through using a "Template". Is there any Design centric guide for Django, or a set of Templates that are ready and useable? I don't want to start from scratch using JS, HTML5, Ajax and everything. From the Model layer perspective Django is very rapid and delivering a working base system. I wonder whether there's something like that for the Views.

But with the options, the thread count increases gradually (even in the burst mode). The machine where SOAPUI is installed is a WinXP machine. Can I actually do the concurrency testing? If so how?   I'm building a web application to generate monthly subscription fees, but I've quickly realised I'm going to need some help with the project to finish it this century. I don't have any money upfront for a freelancer and every website I've found takes bids for project work. The tasks that need doing are flexible too because I can do whatever the other coder doesn't want to. I'm also happy to guide the developer and offer tips for performance/security/etc etc. My question is; how do I go about finding someone to work with on a profit-share basis? I'm sure there are a billion people like me with the "next killer app" but I genuinely believe in it. Can anyone offer some advice? Thanks in advance! EDIT: I guess the trick is to find someone passionate enough about the subject as I am. Where would I find someone? Are there websites that broker profit-share deals on programming work?

• AVD Screen orientation not changing with CTRL+F11 or CTRL+F12

  I run my app in the AVD emulator using eclipse but I'm unable to change the screen orientation in the AVD (Android 2.0 platform on the emulator). When I press CONTROL+F11 or CONTROL+F12 on the keyboard, nothing happens. No messages are generated in the adb debuglog/logcat either when I press either hotkey. According to http://developer.android.com/guide/developing/tools/emulator.html these are the correct hotkeys to switch the emulator's screen orientation. I tried it with my app, and with the messaging app. The hotkey has no affect in any case. I'm running Fedora 12, Gnome. I checked my Keyboard Shortcuts in the System - Preferences menu, nothing's attached to either hotkey. Same problem, 3 different PCs (all running Fedora Gnome).

  Hi, I'm rather new to Haskell. The problem is to find the sum of all even Fibonacci numbers not greater than 4 million. I can't use lists. If I understand correctly, the below solution is wrong, because it uses lists: my_sum = sum $ filter (even) $ takeWhile (< 4000000) fibs Where fibs is the list of all Fibonacci numbers. Somehow, I find it difficult not to think in Haskell in terms of lists. Could anyone guide me to a solution to this problem? Regards

• iPhone app quits on launch

  I created an app using the 3.1.2 toolchain on linux.. it compiles and links normally, and in the makefile i upload my app (something) like this: @scp ./blabla [email protected]/Applications/Helloworld.app/ @ssh [email protected] "cd /Applications/Helloworld.app; ldid -S Helloworld_; killall; springBoard" when i launch my app it immediatly quits. according to google ldid failed, so i tried to do it manually. ldid did give an error, but after rebooting the error was fixed. The app still doesn't launch. the weird part of my problem is that an example i had DID work, but doesn't work anymore now. (p.s. i built the toolchain by following this guide)

  Hi there, I'm pretty new to CakePHP and was missing a crucial feature not generated as scaffold: filtering. What do I have to do to provide dropdowns or multi-selects on the index pages for each field that is a (foreign) key, thereby allowing to filter the table ("OR" inside multi-select, "AND" between different multi-selects, if any)? From what my websearch has shown me there are many more people trying to accomplish the same thing, although I couldn't find anything that would work for me because either they have text fields and do wildcard filtering, or the plugins they propose only work for 1.2 whereas i now started with 1.3 etc. etc. Can someone alleviate the confusion and maybe present some working code or direct me to the definitive guide[tm] where this matter has been solved?   I need some help in settingup/installing and configuring nginx LEMP stack on a fresh new VPS i have. The specs of the CentOS 5.7 VPS are 2GB DDR3 ECC RAM(4GB burst), 1 core 1.5Ghz(3Ghz burst) and 100GB RAID 10 storage, unmetered bandwidth @ 100Mpbs all for a whopping $25/month(unbeatable, yeah i know :) Anyways i have followed this LEMP(will also need MySQL and PHP) stack guide on linode http://library.linode.com/lemp-guides/centos-5 but basically what i want is to be able to host multiple website on this webserver after everything is setup. I am used to using DirectAdmin control panel on other server and want to have things setup so i can host multiple websites...mostly wordpress and drupal themes. Lets say 10 websites on this nginx web server. So can someone please help me on what i need to do to take "full" advantage of nginx power and performance, while been able to easily manage these multiple websites (wordpress and drupal themes)? • Unable to load the Starteam Dump into SVN

  Hi, I have a dump created from StarTeam 2008 R 2 (10.4.7.-64) using svn importer 1.1-M8. But when I am trying to import the dump its giving me error: * adding path : tags/Test/GH/13_Environment/Process/Capgemini EN Template - Business Case.doc ...svnadmin: File already exists: filesystem 'help\db', transaction '2-2', path 'tags/Test/GH/13_Environment/Process/Capgemini EN Template - Business Case.doc' I can see from the svn admin load o/p that the file has been added already. May be the dump created by SVN Importer is not correct. Can anyone guide me how to solve this ?

• Blackberry: Simulator stuck up launching through JDE 5.x

  Hi, When i try to build my project in Blackberry JDE 5.0.0.25. It built successfully. And then when i click on Debug menu "Go" button, simulator is launching and stuck up lanching itself forever, does't come up the simulator screen normally and visible with apps showing. When i built the same project in Blackberry JDE 4.7, it built successfully and then click on "Go", launched the simulator normally and showed the app to play with it. Could someone guide me what should be problem? Do i need to set any settings specific to BB JDE 5.x? I have just the basic hello world empty screen in my project, so don't provide any code here. Thanks.
