  • Dual pane file manager for Mac OS X

    Is there a good customizable dual-pane file manager for Mac like Total Commander / Far Manager in Windows, or like Krusader / Midnight Commander in Linux? I used to work on Windows for quite a while and mostly used Far Manager and sometimes Total Commander, then I switched to Ubuntu Linux and used Krusader, now I switched to Mac OS (Snow Leopard) and I'm having a hard time trying to find a good file manager... Many of the existing applications are trying to replace the Finder with "multimedia capabilities nobody cares about in file manager - IMHO" (Path Finder, ForkLift), some of them are almost good dual-pane file managers (couldn't remember examples), but none of them worked for me mostly because of one reason: I couldn't integrate my file/folder comparison utility (Araxis Merge for Mac) with them... The way it worked for me in Windows and Linux is that I was setting the cursor on one file in the left pane, then setting the right-pane cursor on another file in right pane, then I pressed a hotkey that launched Araxis Merge with those to files/folders comparison results. It was very easy to set up in Far Manager (Windows) and Krusader (Linux, actually in Linux I used "Meld" instead of Araxis Merge...) The tool I'm looking for doesn't necessarily has to be free... (ie, please don't "premature optimize" flame me, please) How does the substr function work? Does it make a second copy of the string data in memory, or does it reference the original? Should I worry about calling, for example, $str = substr($str, 1); in a loop?

  • Package SWF into an EXE or APP

    I am trying to adjust my Flash development workflow so that I am using Flash Builder for all of my coding and multiple FLA files for the user interfaces. I will be creating an ActionScript project in Flash Builder and then having each FLA export a SWC into a resources folder. It is important that I retain the ability to export PC and Mac -- EXE and app, respectively -- projector files. Is there a way of doing this with the Flash compiler or any 3rd party tools?

  • Image editor component in Flex / JavaScript

    Hi everyone, I'm looking for a simple Flex or JavaScript based image editing component which can be embedded in a web application. It shouldn't be a web service but rather a component that I can download and customize (i18n etc.). I only need some basic features: most important is cropping, optional features would be rotating and adjusting brightness/contrast.   • "Server Unavailable" and removed permissions on .NET sites after Windows Update

    Our company has five almost identical Windows 2003 servers with the same host, and all but one performed an automatic Windows Update last night without issue. The one that had problems, of course, was the one which hosts the majority of our sites. What the update appeared to do was cause the NETWORK user to stop having access to the .NET Framework 2.0 files, as the event log was complaining about not being able to open System.Web. This resulted in every .NET site on the server returning "Server Unavailable" as the App Domains failed to be initialise. I ran aspnet_regiis which didn't appear to fix the problem, so I ran FileMon which revealed that nobody but the Administrators group had access to any files in any of the website folders! After resetting the permissions, things appear to be fine. I was wondering if anyone had an idea of what could have caused this to go wrong? As I say, the four other servers updated without a problem. Are there any known issues involved with any of the following updates? My major suspect at the moment is the 3.5 update as all of the sites on the server are running in 3.5.     How do I get visual studio 2005 to work best with .asp files? I used to have this on my old PC but I can't get the settings right. I exported and important all my old settings and still no dice. alternatively I think there might be an even better choice for classic asp IDE editor. It'd be nice to have intellisense, completion, highlighting, stuff like that for ASP (vbscript) and css/html at the same time. (I'm happy not to type out css selectors) thanks

  • Providing raw MP3/AAC data to Flex/Flash from a custom container

    Having had a quick look at the Flex docs I can't seem to find any reference to providing audio content to be played from a custom (possibly encrypted - don't worry, it's not that evil) container format. Is this possible and if so, could someone point me in the right direction. Or if that's not possible, some way to hook into the disk/network (disk is much more important in this case) I/O of the sound playing mechanism to provide a supported container in memory from a custom wrapper.

  • TFTP Timing Out on Ubuntu VM

    I'm running a Windows 7 PC with VMware installed which has my Ubuntu (10.04 Lucid Lynx). I recently installed a DHCP server and TFTP (Xinet tftpd) using these instructions. I've mapped a network drive so that my Windows has access to all the files in my VM through a 192.x.x.x IP address. I'm trying to throw some custom firmware onto a router. The router has its own built-in TFTP utility that will download the image. It successfully manages to do everything but it is slow because it writes it to flash memory. There is another method that is much quicker because it writes to RAM directly but it must use the TFTP server in Ubuntu. The issue I'm facing is that the Ubuntu TFTP transfer seems to be timing out. The transfer starts but never goes past ~60%. Here's my /etc/xinetd.d/tftp file (similar to a known working config): service tftp { protocol = udp port = 69 socket_type = dgram wait = yes user = nobody server = /usr/sbin/in.tftpd server_args = -s /home/user/tftp/ disable = no cps = 300 2 per_source = 60 } I've done some searching but can't find any parameters for this file to control timeout time or number of retries. The last two arguments (cps, per_source) and completely alien to me (can anyone explain). I have a few possible solutions but the easiest would be to get this TFTP server working. Can anyone help? Either with a timeout configuration or maybe even recommend a different TFTP server? Thanks!

  • What is the peak theoretical WiFi G user density? [closed]

    I've seen a few WiFi capacity planning questions, and this one is related, but hopefully different enough not to be closed. Also, this is related specifically to 802.11g, but a similar question could be made for N. In order to squeeze more WiFi users into a space, the transmit power on the APs need to be reduced and the APs squeezed closer together. My question is, how far can you practically take this before the network becomes unusable? There will come a point where the transmit power is so weak that nobody will actually be able to pick up a connection, or be constantly roaming to/from APs spaced a few feet apart as they walk around. There are also only 3 available channels to use as well, which is a factor to consider. After determining the peak AP density, then multiply by users-per-AP, which should be easier to find out. After factoring all of this in and running some back-of-the-envelope calculations, I'd like to be able to get a figure of "XX users per 10ft^2" or something. This can be considered the physical limit of WiFi, and will keep people from asking about getting 3,000 people in a ballroom conference on WiFi. Can anyone with WiFi experience chime in, or better yet, provide some calculations for a more accurate figure? Assumptions: Let's assume an ideal environment with no reflection (think of a big, square, open room, with the APs spaced out on a plane), APs are placed on the ceiling so humans won't absorb the waves, and the only interference are from the APs themselves and the devices. As for what devices specifically, that's irrelevant for the first point of the question (AP density, so only channel and transmit power should matter). User experience: Wikipedia states that Wireless G has about 22Mbps maximum effective throughput, or about 2.75MB/s. For the purpose of this question, anything below 100KB/s per user can be deemed to be a poor user experience. As for roaming, I'll assume the user is standing in the same place, so hopefully that will be a non-issue.

    I have got kind of a stupid question. I am doing my bachelor at a university. In a wirtten assigment a prof posted the task: "Name 3 PC-Operating Systems:" Well, I went on an included a variety of OS (Linux, Windows, Osx) including Unix & Solaris. Today I recieved a mail from my prof saying: "Unix is not a PC-Operating System. Many Unix-Variants are not PC-Hardware-Compatible (like AIX & HP-UX. About Solaris: there was one PC-Compatible version...)" I am kind of suprised: Even if may Unix-Variants are Power-PC and different bit-order – Those don't stop beeing PCs right now? The question was given in a written assigment! It was not a question that came up during lecture! Due to the original postest task being in German, I'll include it just to make sure, that nobody suspects an error in the translation... "Nennen Sie 3 PC-Betriebssysteme:" Response / Antwort: "Unix ist kein PC-Betriebssystem, viele Unix-Varianten sind nicht auf PC-Hardware lauffähig (AIX, HP-UX).   • Windows Network File Transfer to Samba server: “Are you sure you want to copy this file without its properties?”

    I am transferring a lot of files to a new NAS based on OpenMediaVault, with the Samba 3.5.6 service running. I am transferring from Windows 7 64-bit to the NAS, and on some media files Windows is prompting about losing some property data across the transfer. I have never seen this before when transferring to Samba boxes I have built myself (vs this turnkey solution), so I'm guessing there must be a Samba setting I can change to preserve the file properties in question instead of permanently losing whatever they contain (Date Taken? Exposure? Flash Fired? etc). Or maybe I've just never encountered this before; I'm really not sure. I tried adding ea support = yes and store dos attributes = yes to the [global] section, but the problem remains. The Linux file system is ext4 mounted with user_xattr (full options: defaults,acl,user_xattr,noexec,usrjquota=aquota.user,grpjquota=aquota.group,jqfmt=vfsv0) as Samba requires. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!   • Error during SSL installation cPanel/WHM

    I have a dedicated server and I am using the install wizard via WHM to install an SSL certificate. I have the following keys: Certificate key RSA private key CA certificate I paste these three elements into the wizard along with the domain, IP address and username but I get this error: SSL install aborted due to error: Unable to save certificate key. Certificate verification passed Have I missed a step? I have given it another go to make sure I am copying and pasting the info correctly and I am now getting the following error: SSL install aborted due to error: Sorry, you must have a dedicated ip to use this feature for the user: username! If you are intending to install a shared certificate you must use the username "nobody" for security and bandwidth reporting reasons. Even though I am using a dedicated IP address, I am getting this problem. I thought I would also add that this SSL certificate has been installed on a shared hosting environment with my previous hostig provider. The account with them is still active, however the domain and its contents now reside on the dedicated server - could this cause problems?
