• Actionscript 3: How to remove all black pixels from BitmapData ?

  Hello, Let say I have a BitmapData with different pixels representing an object, and some black pixels around it that I want to remove. I would like to obtain a new BitmapData, with width and height of the object represented by non-black pixels. For example, let say I have a BitmapData 400x400px, but the object represented by non-black pixels occupies the rect: x=100, y=100, width=200, height=200. I want to get new BitmapData representing that rect, all black pixels should be removed. Any idea on how to do this please ?

• Gimp: Color to alpha

  I have an image where I want all the pixels with a specific color converted to transparent pixels. The operation should not change the color/alpha value of any pixel which don't match the color exactly. How do I do that? At first I thought I could use Colors-"Color to Alpha" but that don't work because it changes the color of all pixels(It adds an alpha value to all pixels). Using Gimp 2.6.11 on Linux

• Programmitically accessing internal storage (not SD card) on Verizon HTC Droid Incredible (Android)

  Hello, I'm trying to find information on how to programmatically access the HTC Droid Incredible's supposed 8GB of internal storage. To determine the external storage (SD Card) location, I'm using android.os.Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory(). I've not been able to find any corollary for internal phone storage. In examining HTC/Google Nexus One, Motorola Droid, and HTC Dream/G1 phones, there (as would be expected) does not appear to be any mount point for such arbitrary internal storage. On these phones the internal storage is divided amongst /data, /system, and /cache partitions. The Incredible's internal storage is certainly not going to be located in /system. /cache is also unlikely given that it is globally non-readable/non-executable. I'd read in reviews that the phone will still be limited to 512MB or so for apps, suggesting that it is not simply a subdirectory of /data. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I do not have access to a Droid Incredible unit myself, of course.

  On my HTC Desire Z with Android 2.3.3 I get from time to time the problem, that the status information ist wrong. That means status information says, that there is an unread, unsent or failed SMS, but this SMS is already deleted. Does anybody know, where I can reset this information? It must be stored anywhere in ContentResolver of content://mms-sms/conversations or content://sms/conversations on the thread-level, but I have no idea. Example: After I deleted a number of failed SMS in the non delivered SMS overview, the status of non delivered SMS was not reset in the Messages conversation overview though in each conversation there wasn't any undelivered SMS left.

  So here's my string: Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Nullam elit lacus, dignissim quis laoreet non, cursus id eros. Etiam lacinia tortor vel purus eleifend accumsan. Pellentesque habitant morbi tristique senectus et netus et malesuada fames ac turpis egestas. Quisque bibendum vestibulum nisl vitae volutpat. I need to split it every 100 characters (full words only) until all the characters are used up. So we'd end up with: Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit.   No, this is not a question about generics. I have a Factory pattern with several classes with internal constructors (I don't want them being instantiated if not through the factory). My problem is that CreateInstance fails with a "No parameterless constructor defined for this object" error unless I pass "true" on the non-public parameter. Example // Fails Activator.CreateInstance(type); // Works Activator.CreateInstance(type, true); I wanted to make the factory generic to make it a little simpler, like this: public class GenericFactory<T> where T : MyAbstractType { public static T GetInstance() { return Activator.CreateInstance<T>(); } } However, I was unable to find how to pass that "true" parameter for it to accept non-public constructors (internal). Did I miss something or it isn't possible?

  Are there any books or articles that show you how to use NUnit to test entire features of a program? Is there a name for this type of testing? This is different from the typical use of NUnit for unit testing where you test individual classes. This is similar to acceptance testing except that it is written by the developer to discern that the program does what they interpreted as being what the customer wants the program to do. I don't need it to be readable by non-programmers or to produce a readable specification for non-programmers. The problem I am having is keeping this feature testing code maintainable. I need help in organizing my feature testing code. I also need help organizing the program code to be drivable in this way. I am having a hard time being able to issue commands to the program while still having good code design.

  Good Day, I have tried, and burned my brain to understand the definition of Regular Languages in Discrete Mathematics and its Applications(Rosen) without reaching the goal of understanding why the definition is like that in this book. On page(789), I am rephrasing the definition: Type 3 grammars are defined as: w1 --> w2 Where w1 is a non-terminal, and w2 is of the form: w2 = aB w2 = a Where B is a non-terminal, and a is a terminal. A special case is when w1 is the starting symbol and w2 is lambda(the empty string): w1 = S S --> lambda Two questions I couldn't find an answer for. First, Why can't w2 be of the form Ba. Second, Why lambda is only allowed for the starting symbol only. The book states that, regular languages are equivalent to Finite State Automaton, and we can easily see that a we can build FSA for both cases. • Are there any purely functional Schemes or Lisps?

  Over the past few months, I've put a lot of effort into learning (or attempting to learn) several functional programming languages. I really like math, so they have been very natural for me to use. Simply to be more specific, I have tried Common Lisp, Scheme, Haskell, OCaml, and (a little bit of) Erlang. I did not like the syntax of OCaml and do not have enough Erlang knowledge to make a judgment on it yet. Because of its consistent and beautiful (non-)syntax, I really like Scheme. However, I really do appreciate the stateless nature of purely functional programming languages such as Haskell. Haskell looks very interesting, but the amount of inconsistent and non-extendable syntax really bothered me. In the interest of preventing a Lisp vs Haskell flame war, just pretend that I can't use Haskell for some other reason. Therefore, my question is: Are there any purely functional Schemes (or Lisps in general)?

• A code using SharePoint classes doesn't run on systems not having SharePoint installed

  I have a window application which uses SP classes to create a site. I works fine on a system having Windows Server 2003 R2 with sharepoint installed. But it doesn't work on a system having XP installed and SharePoint not installed. The fact is that both of these systems are on a intranet. So I assumed that the NON-SP system would be able to run the code and create a site on the system having SP installed if all the required parameters (like serverLocation, domain, username, password) are provided. I did copied the DLLs to these NON-SP system and referenced them to build the project: Microsoft.SharePoint.dll microsoft.sharepoint.portal.dll Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing.dll But this too didn't worked. What am I missing? Is my assumption wrong?

  Hello, I've been playing around with Active Record a bit, and I have noticed that A.C./ORM always uses the following database model when creating a one-to-one relationship Person id | country_id | name | ... Country id | tld | name | ... No I wondered, isn't this a violiation of the third Normal Form? This clearly states "Every non-prime attribute is non-transitively dependent on every key of the table". Well this country_id isn't dependent of personid is it? So is this wrong or am I just not getting the point?

• Oracle - Is there any effects of not having a primary key on a table ?

  We use sequence numbers for primary keys on the tables. There are some tables where we dont really use the primary key for any querying purpose. But, we have Indexes on other columns. These are non-unique indexes. The queries use these non-primary key columns in the WHERE conditions. So, I dont really see any benefit of having a primary key on such tables. My experience with SQL 2000 was that, it used to replicate tables which had some primary key. Otherwise it would not. I am using Oracle 10gR2. I would like to know if there are any such side-effects of having tables that dont have primary key.

Everything works locally, the local and server databases are the same The strange thing about the error is that it points to my local dev machine in the error stack. • Suppressing the language select button iPhone

  I'm working on an application now that contains an account register section. One field with secureTextEntry = NO (for registering only). The idea is this make registration faster and hopefully increases the number of signups. It's simple enough for me to just place a regular UITextField but if the user has any additional language keyboards then it's possible for the user to enter non-password friendly characters. Unlike in when secureTextEntry = YES. I know I can do textField.keyboardType = UIKeyboardTypeASCIICapable to get the text field to display the ASCII keyboard first, but the user will still have the keyboard switch button which will allow them to get to undesirable characters. Is there a simple method for suppressing the international button or forcing ASCII only keyboard with no international button? [EDIT] Another perhaps better option might be to suppress multi byte keyboards or even to display the text in the case that secureTextEntry = YES any ideas here? [EDIT AGAIN] I've decided it's a really bad idea to suppress the international button as non-multibyte characters should all be allowed.

How simply asking for the margin of a div causes the browser to 'reflow' the div in the browser's rendering engine four times. So that made me wonder, during the initial rendering of a page (or in Crockford's jargon a "web scroll") is it faster to write CSS that defines only the non-zero/non-default values? To provide an example: div{ margin-left:2px; } Than div{ margin:0 0 0 2px; } I know consequence of this 'savings' is insignificant, but I think it is still important to understand how the technologies are implemented. • Linux standard input issue

  Hello everyone, I am new to Linux. And I am using Red Hat Enterprise Version 5. There is a ruby program which use standard input as its input (e.g. the Ruby program process input from standard input). I think standard input should be keyboard, correct? So, I think other kinds of input (non-standard input) should not work (i.e. the ruby program should not be able to read input from such non-standard input), but actually I have tried using pipe works, I am so confused because I think pipe should be some other kinds of input -- other than standard input, why it could work? i.e. put text "123" in abc.txt with pipe, could achieve the same result as using keyboard as input to type "123" for the ruby program. Here is the sample which works and makes me confused, cat abc.txt | ~/test/rubysrc/foo.rb thanks in advance, George

  I've huge a table (a few billion rows) with a clustered index and two non-clustered indices. A BULK INSERT operation produces 112000 reads and only 383 writes (duration 19948ms). It's very confusing to me. Why do reads exceed writes?   What is the technically correct way of referring to "high ascii" or "extended ascii" characters? I don't just mean the range of 128-255, but any character beyond the 0-127 scope. Often they're called diacritics, accented letters, sometimes casually referred to as "national" or non-English characters, but these names are either imprecise or they cover only a subset of the possible characters. What correct, precise term that will programmers immediately recognize? And what would be the best English term to use when speaking to a non-technical audience?
